The machine itself looked great! But the launch line-up didn't really excite me.
1 2 Switch feels like it should have been a pack-in game like Wii Sports/Nintendo Land as, like those titles, it looks like a proof of concept for the controllers.
As someone who's played Mario Kart 8 extensively, I was disappointed with a Deluxe version rather than a true Mario Kart 9.
Right now I think I'll wait till Mario Odyssey is released to pick one up, unless something more appealing is announced before then. While Breath Of The Wild looks amazing, there doesn't seem to be enough else on the horizon to justify buying a new console just to play it. Immediately after the presentation, I preorderd the WiiU version, and will play through my backlog before I get around to eventually buying a Switch.
I always have my 3D slider set to max and was surprided a while ago when talking with friends to find that I was in the minority. One of my reasons for upgrading to a new 3ds was because of the improvemrnt to the 3d and I haven't regretted my purchase. It's disappointing when a game fails to use 3d, like the recent Pokemon games.
Think I'll get Duck Tales Remastered on Wii U and Mega Man Collection and Pirate Pop Plus on 3ds while they're discounted. Sad to see no virtual console sales!
At least you didn't bother to include the NES Classic Mini and link to a page saying 'Sold Out'!
Those WiiU bundles seem outrageously overpriced for a dead console walking. But I liked the Other section at the end. There were a few things there I had a look at (and one I've already bought for someone, but no spoilers before Christmas!)
For me, the issue is not so much the price, but the need for a constant internet connection! This looked like the ideal game to play on my phone on the way to work, especially the fact that you only need obe hand to play, so could play it while stood up holding on to the handrail on a packed underground train. Oh, but the game needs to connect to the internet at the start and end of each level? Well that puts a stop to that idea then. So why should I bother buying something I'll only end up playing at home, just like all the other New Super Mario Bros games I already own?? Pointless!
It will forever baffle me why Nintendo screwed up the NES Mini! With no big Christmas game release besides Pokémon, this would have ben a sure fire money maker. But here we are, a week before Christmas, and no where has any for sale other than (expletive deleted) scalpers on ebay! And I keep flicking through magazine and newspapers' gift guides and they're all featuring it. And it would make the ideal gift for a lot of people. There might be a restock after xmas but that's gonna be too late. The impulse gift buy will be gone and in January the focus is gonna be on the Switch!
Wanted this for Christmas but given up now because I don't have the time to be watching like a hawk for when (if!) anywhere gets a restock! I might pick one up if I see it after Christmas, but to be honest I might just pass on it completely with the Switch coming out soon. Nintendo really screwed up this sure-fire money maker!
I was gonna have to wait for the Android version, but if true, this is quite a big deal for me as, like others have said, I was planning on having this to hand to play on tube journeys and seeing as the wifi connection down there is sketchy at best, it looks like I might have to rethink my eventual purchase...
@RupeeClock I caught that and preordered one at about 11am and got an order confirmation, I looked back afterwards and it was Sold Out! I still don't have a NES mini, but when/if I manage to get hold of one, I want a second controller for 2 player so figured I better not wait!
I sent an email after getting a nintendo promotional email about the NES Classic Mini, saying how ridiculous it was to send out this email when it's impossible to get hold of one anywhere, other than paying inflated prices online, and asking for information on when/if there would be a restock and got this reply yesterday: " We regret to inform you, that the item in question is currently sold out. We unfortunately, have no announcements or updates at this time, as to when this item will come back in stock." So I'm not holding my breath for a December restock. And if I can't get one in time for Christmas, then I'll probably just pass on it.
@MoonKnight7 Yeah, I sent a reply to that email promo about the NES Mini suggesting they should make sure they make enough stock before they bother sending me info about a product I can't buy (unless I'm willing to pay WAY over the asking price!).
And if they don't sort out the stock levels in time for Christmas, they'll have really messed up! With no other big game other than Pokemon Sun/Moon they NEED to have this in stores!
@Moon Yeah, I've used the pixel console badges on my VC folders. Just wish there was a NES one. The Famicon badge just doesn't seem right. At the moment I'm using an 8-bit Mario for my NES games folder. Some of the application badges are fun. I still play this daily for the free plays, but only had a short spate of spending any actual money.
Why are these all just % discounts. There should be free games for gold coins. If I've already spent X amount on games to get the coins, why not give me something for free?
@MJInnocent Yep, did exactly the same. I had been using it just to get the miitomo points each day, but seeing as I have over 3,000 Platinum points and nothing to spend them on, I figured I could probably stop bothering.
@GreatPlayer If you can't get past the tutorial for a level, a guide for when to press the buttons appears on the touchscreen, which helps you get the rhythm. Plus I think I read somewhere that if you fail to pass a level three times, you get the option to bypass it in exchange for coins (which you earn from clearing levels).
I bought this from the eshop because I figured it was the type of game that I'm more likely to play for a quick 5 minutes, if it's already there on my system, rather than having to go and switch cartridges. Plus the fact that Amazon were selling it for £29.99 so I could get it five quid cheaper from the e-shop, plus pick up some gold coins in the hope that Nintendo ever decide to stick something decent up on My Nintendo...
Wow! Fairly big week after months and months of nothing.
At £24.99, Rhythm Paradise Megamix is cheaper than I've seen it online. Plus it's the sort of game that I'm more likely to play if I have it loaded onto my system for a quick play, rather than having to swap carts.
Pirate Pop Plus looks pretty good too. Think I'll get the New 3DS version and download it for free on my Wii U too, but it looks like a game that's more suited to handheld.
Virtual Console-wise I'm torn between getting Super Castlevania IV and Super Ghouls and Ghosts for the New 3DS and paying £10, compared to £7.68 on the Wii U (actually, less because I already own Castlevania on the Wii VC), but I just find that I prefer to play SNES games on my 3DS these days...
And I was actually thinking about The Binding of Isaac last night, but couldn't for the life of me remember what it was called, and trying to search the eshop is a joke! I remember there were lots of bugs with the 3DS version on release, but those got fixed right? Well, the discount is on until the 10 November, so I might wait on this one...
Mystical Ninja! I bought this on Wii (think I exchanged some stars for Wii Points) but never really got into it. Started replaying it recently and enjoyed it more, but kept thinking it'd be great to play on my 3DS. So I'll definitely be picking this up for a fiver!
I bought Mega Man 7 and Mega Man X on 3ds the other week, but as X2 and X3 appear to be diminishing returns, I think I'll call it quits. Possibly Mega Man Collection while it's on sale, although do these games have save states like the virtual console titles? That's been a godsend while playing through 7 and the idea of attempting some of the earlier (and from what I remember, harder) games without it fills me with dread...
Already have Pilotwings, so nothing of interest here. I'm racking up the Platinum points though, so hope that they have something decent available soon!
Well, I was interested in Kirby's Dream Course and should get some gold coins from buying a few things from the eshop sale, so think I'll take advantage of this offer!
Glad to see the initial discount for Donkey Kong Country 3 and not a Buy One Get One half price like the initial batch of games. This is the only DKC I don't already have on the Wii U VC so I might take advantage of that first week discount. I hope this will be the case with all future 3DS Snes vc titles...
@Angelic_Lapras_King Oh cool! I didn't hear that news about Capcom and Konami. Particularly excited about Konami. They made some of my favourite SNES games back in the day. While it's probably too much to hope for their licensed titles to make it to Virtual Console (I can dream about Tiny Toon Adventures: Buster Busts Loose, Turtles In Time, Turtles Tournament Fighters, The Adventures of Batman & Robin, and Batman Returns etc.), I'd love to see Parodius, Mystical Ninja, Axelay, Super Castlevania IV!
I have the physical copy of Shake Dimensions, so nothing for me this week. Is that all the SNES Virtual Console games we're gonna get? I was hoping there would be more past the initial line-up...
So very nearly missed out! Had my phone charging (after running down the battery playing around with Miitomo) so didn'see the email. My friend Tom had messaged me too to tell me, and fortunately I saw it at 16:30 and went and got my order in immediately! Now I can relax!
Pixel-perfect resolution looks...well perfect. Like someone else said, I don't get why that wasn't the default! The slightly stretched resolution looks like garbage in comparison.
I had a long hard think about the SNES VC announcement last week and decided that I'm not going to pay again (outside of maybe a nominal fee akin to the Wii > WiiU upgrade) for any titles on my New 3ds that I already own (and paid for!) on either Wii or WiiU. As much as I'd love to play Earthbound portably, I'm not gonna pay £8.99 again to do so. And the fact that other SNES titles are £7.19 on 3ds when they cost less on WiiU makes double-dipping even less appealing. Was considering A Link To The Past this week as I don't already own that on VC...
Played it on Wii and, to be honest, it wasn't one of my favourite Zelda games and not one that I've ever revisited, but then I had a similar experience with Wind Waker on the Gamecube and really enjoyed it when I played through the HD version. Lacking a European release date for Fire Emblem, I figured I'd pick this up and give it another spin. I'm looking forward to being able to play it without the Wii remote controls!
1) Link's Awakening 2) Ocarina of Time 3) A Link To The Past
Link's Awakening on the Game Boy was the first Zelda game I played, and so will always hold a special place in my heart (container). While I've enjoyed nearly all of the games on this list, these are the three that I've come back to play through more times than all the others.
@Agent721 Is that 20% off with Amazon Prime in the US? I just looked at ordering it from amazon.co.uk using my Prime free trial and it didn't show anything about 20% off...
Just goes to show, even Nintendo can't just stick any old game out and expect people to buy it. This is the first as in a long time that I won't be getting a new game on the 25th Dec. Mario Tennis looks lacking. Amiibo Festival holds no interest to me (and I finally managed to get over my slight amiibo obsession this year!). I only finished Dream Team Bros a few months ago, so Paper Jam Bros looks too similar, too soon. Didn't like the demo of Triforce Heroes and don't have enough time to sink into Xenoblades.
Already anticipating a few games in 2016 though. I'm all in for Fire Emblam and hoping that the extra development time will make Starfox worth the wait. Plus I still have a large games backlog to get through...
I'll try out the Fatal Frame demo and glad to see Chibi-Robo getting a demo too, as I was undecided about that. I'll probably wait for Binding of Isaac to go on sale first before buying...
@VanillaLake Yeah, in the two games I had, the first group had a guy who wouldn't cone and stand on the triforce to leave from the lobby until we totemed and smashed the chest on top of the pillars and then logged off immediately after that (I don't know if he was trolling or just thought that was the game!?!). The next time I got into the actual game, but one guy kept (accidentally?!?) throwing me down a hole and only co-opetating with the multiplayer tasks if he was the one doing the main actions, which was very annoying when me and the other player had the outfit that let you fire 3 arrows and he only fired one arrow and KEPT missing the balloon we had to hit to retrieve the key to continue.

@jahasnell I was JUST thinking this exact thing this evening while I was playing! While it's cool to see how they pulled it off to get the level to play itself, I want to play this game not watch it being played for me. Now I swipe as soon as I see a title like "Don't touch anything!!" etc.
Erm...how do I get the update? Opened Shovel Knight but just goes to the main game and tried going in the eshop but can't see where to get the update!?!
@Peach64 From what he said, that really doesn't seem to be the case. Personally I'd rather wait for a more polished game than for them to rush release a mediocre title.
Glad I cancelled my order with GAME and pre-ordered from Nintendo Store to get the t-shirt. After losing out on my squid amiibo when I pre-ordered Splatoon from them, I think I'll be giving GAME a miss in the future!
