Re: Nintendo Has Reportedly Delayed the Roll-Out of 64GB Switch Game Cartridges

Shinnos

@TossedLlama Agreed about the lack of manuals! I got Skyrim for Christmas and was really lost with all the menu options to begin with to the point where I really wasn't enjoying the game. Eventually figured some of it out and realised I could use magic to revive myself plus add certain skill bonuses as I levelled up, but that was just by clicking around. I missed having a manual that I could read throuugh before I started playing..

Re: Soapbox: It Took Nintendo To Turn Me Into A Smartphone Gamer

Shinnos

I think I'm just not into Smartphone games. I've tried out Nintendo's offerings, but I've lost interest before too long.

Mario Run looked like it might be the ideal game to play on the tube on my way to work, but the Always Online requirement put paid to tgat, so I never bothered beyond the free levels and the odd Toad Rally effort.

Fire Emblem was enjoyable for a bit, but then felt repetitive and I'd rather play a full FE game on my 3ds.

Miitomo started out as a daily play to earn coins for My Nintendo until I realised they didn't have much purpose.

Pokémon Go was a novelty, but I didn't really want to be wandering around with my phone out for would-be scooter thieves to nick.

And I haven't looked at Animal Crossing because I'm too busy with Stardew Valley in my Switch.

I'm not dusregarding these games. They obviously have an audience and work for sone people, which is great if it gets more people playing Nintendo games in sone form, but I'm quite happy to say it's not me. I'll be over here playing on my Switch.

Re: Guide: Super Mario Odyssey: Sand Kingdom Power Moon Locations And Walkthrough

Shinnos

Trying to do as much as I can by myself, and on 789 moons, but 76. Eastern Pillars was proving impossible! Just checked to see if I'd been trying the right thing, which I had, although slightly annoyed to find another moon which you seem to have to use motion controls to obtain! I almost exclusively play in handheld mode and feel Nintendo really should have made the move set the same regardless of how you play.

Re: Review: The Count Lucanor (Switch eShop)

Shinnos

I'm slightly confused by this review. Occassional frame rate drops early in the game and some problems with the audio levels, don't sound like major negatives, but the review makes it sound like these are real game breakers.

Re: Let's Sing 2018 Is Coming To Switch And Wii, But Not Wii U

Shinnos

"With classic tracks such as Coldplay's “Hymn For The Weekend”, Alan Walker with “Faded”, Gnash ft. Olivia O'Brien with “I Hate U, I Love U” and Clean Bandit ft. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie with “Rockabye”..."

You were using the word 'Classic' ironically there, right? 😉

Re: My Nintendo Updates with New Kirby and Star Fox Rewards

Shinnos

Like others have said, you could specify the region. I have 1800 Platinum Points and 20 Gold Points expiring at the end of the month and nothing to spend them on again. So far I think I've spent all of my gold points on 3DS Themes rather than let them just expire. Hoping for something I can buy when they update it mid-month...

Re: Guide: Everything We Know About the Super NES Classic Edition

Shinnos

Managed to get a preorder in on the Nintendo Store. Despite already owning quite a few of these games on the original SNES or 3DS Virtual Console, I'm more excited for this machine than the Switch ATM (which I'll probably get for Mario Odyssey).

Games wise, I never played Secret Of Mana, Mario RPG or FFIIII so looking forward to getting stuck into those. And I think I only played the original Starfox once, over at a friend's place. While I've played all the others, they're mostly classics that I can't wait to play again. Although I could have done without the two Kirby games (I picked up Dream Course on 3DS VC and couldn't get to grips with the controls or viewpoint) and have added either Chrono Trigger (although the line-up is already quite JRPG focused, and I do own the DS port), Turtles In Time (although I can understand why it's not there), Super Parodius (because there should be a shoot-em-up on there, and I always wanted to play that one) or Zombies Ate My Neighbours (which I loved as a kid and had a great 2-player co-op mode).

But overall happy.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's Big Switch and 3DS Reveals at E3 on Day One?

Shinnos

Mario looked bonkers! And I'm gonna try my best to avoid looking at any more videos of it until October, so I can experience it without already knowing what's gonna happen.

The fact that Metroid Prime 4 was revealed was neat. I was more pumped about a new 2D Metroid game on the 3DS, (and out the day before my birthday!) but that sliggtly lessened when I foundIout later it's a remake of Metroid II. Kirby is Kirby, and Yoshi looked pretty good. That is all.

Re: Nintendo Remains Tight-Lipped On SNES Classic Mini Rumours

Shinnos

"Even so, there's still no official word on the system, or if it really will be hitting store shelves this holiday season."

I think I can safely say that even if it is released, it won't be hitting store shelves, the exact same way no NES Minis managed to make it as far as the store shelves!

Re: Italian Discontinuation of the NES Mini Seals Its Fate

Shinnos

"Following North America, Japan and Australia, this marks Europe as the fourth territory confirmed to have stopped production of the popular device."

I'd argue with your use of the word "popular" there! Popular with Scalpers, sure, but for everyone else I'd say it was more of a frustrating device that nobody who wanted one could get their hands on.

If Nintendo had stocked this properly they could've had a real hit on their hands. It just feels like a lost opportunity and did a great deal of damage to the leeway people give Nintendo because of how beloved their games are.

My one hope is that they're discontinuing it in order to fix the hacking loopholes and then will re-release it, but time will tell...

Re: Poll: What Wii U Ports Would You Like to Play on Nintendo Switch?

Shinnos

As a Wii U owner, I don't have any interest in ports of Wii U titles as I already own all of the ones I was interested in. The exception would be Star Fox Zero if they reworked it for a single screen and got rid of the godawful mandatory motion controls. I played it. I hated it. But I would rather they made a brand new Star Fox game for the Switch!

Re: Review: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U)

Shinnos

Bought the Wii U version and don't regret it one bit. I didn't buy a Switch so am not comparing the two versions, and am in love with the Wii U version. Even playing on the Game Pad. Glad you didn't mark it down a point on Wii U as this is easily a 10/10 game whatever system you're playing it on!

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Switch Has Started Well - Now the Real Challenge Begins

Shinnos

@JLPick To be fair, I've been impressed with the amount of real world advertising (not just banner ads and YouTube) I've seen for BotW and Switch here in the UK. I've seen massive posters for Zelda in tube stations and all along the escalators at Liverpool Street station. The tv ad has been on fairly regular rotation and I've even seen a cinema advert the other day before watching Logan.

Re: Feature: First Impressions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Wii U

Shinnos

I opted for the Wii U version rather than buying a Switch and the game, partly because I'd been waiting to play this game pretty much the entire time I owned a Wii U (before we even knew what it was called, past Zelda Wii U) and partly because there was nothing else in the Switch line-up that was of interest to me until Mario Oddysey is out. And not having the two systems running side by side, I have to say I'm VERY impressed with the Wii U's performance! There's been some lighting effects with the sun at certain times of day where I've just stopped to look around. I did notice my first odd stutter last night when I was playing, but these are very infrequent and barely noticeable. I wouldn't profess to being able to notice framerate drops like some people, but I haven't seen anything that posed a problem. Even playing on the Gamepad feels comfortable, if a little more washed out imagewise, but still an amazing looking game. When I heard the Game Pad wasn't being used I thougt they may have just mirrored the tv screen, which I find VERY distracting, but glad it has nothing but an icon to touch yo pkay on the Hame Pad. This seems to make the battery last a LOT longer!

Re: Preview: Immersing Ourselves in the World of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Shinnos

@Dark-Link73 This is my one major question about the game, and seeing as all the previews seem to be being played on the Switch, it's one that might not be answered until launch! Does the Wii U version utilise the gamepad and if not, why not? This quote from Aonuma about the game not supporting HD Rumble on the Switch also makes me think it won't utilise the Gamepad: "The purpose of the Switch version was to provide exactly the same experience as on Wii U, and vice versa. If we had started to adapt the game to the Switch features, it would not have been the same game. So, beyond the graphic differences, we did not really explore the specifics of the new console."

Re: Talking Point: Lack of Nintendo Switch Details Close to Launch Made Wobbly Cam 'Leaks' Inevitable

Shinnos

I've been on the fence about the Switch since the announcement. Should I preorder one? The only launch game that really interested me was Breath Of The Wild and I have a Wii u that I can play that on. It's not a deal breaker, but I feel like if Nintendo had been more forthcoming about the details of what happens with previously purchased eshop and virtual console games, I might have been swayed. As it is, I'll wait to hear what everyone says once it's been released.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Puts the NES Mini Up Against Retro Rivals

Shinnos

First time that I've watched one of these videos and while sone of it was interesting, certain parts of this guy's comparison had me confused. "Look at these two barely indecipherable screenshots. The one on the left is obviously superior!". The part with the Virtual Console was pretty shocking, but it's not something I've noticed playing the games without comparison

Re: Nintendo Download: 2nd February (Europe)

Shinnos

Nothing for me, but surprised to see Bomberman make an appearance. So now Zelda, Mario Kart 8, Splatoon and Bomberman are all available on the Wii U, there feels even less of a reason to...switch...to a Switch.
