One thing I'm still not clear on, do you not battle Pokémon in this game? From what I've read/watched it sounds like when you encounter another Pokémon you just have to throw a pokéball at it to capture it, no fighting required. Is that right? If so, it seems a bit of a missed opportunity...

Getting this digitally, but not preordering it until the 6th December and then preinstalling it ready to play at midnight, as it seems pointless to do it too far in advance. Especially as the money comes out of your account straight away.

Will get the Season Pass for the characters eventually, probably once they've all been announced. Definitely not in a rush to preorder it sight unseen. With 75 characters already, it's not like I'm gonba be in need of another 5 anytime soon...

Glad to see other people mentioning about the sound! I had this problem when playing in handheld even with my Switch turned all the way up, but hadn't foubd any mention of it anywhere online and honestly was thinking I had a problem with my hearing!

@Matthew010 I agree, but that was obviously the type of comment this article was trying to provoke, especially when it says "he's more of a PlayStation guy", purely based on the fact that he called The Last Guardian "good".

Downloaded Undertale on Tuesday and loving it so far. I've been playing through with a big smile on my face and had a dozen actual laugh-out-loud moments so far and only an hour or so in.

Have been curious about Detention, but don't usually click with horror games, so will be givibg the demo a look later!

I had a lot of fun playing this in local co-op when I was staying at my friend's house recently. If it drops to £15 in the eshop, I'll pick it up...

I love the Wario Ware series and despite some people dismissing this as just a "Best Of" collection, it genuinely feels like an all new entry. The cut scenes and voice acting are hilarious and everyone sounds how you would imagine. All of the games have had a visual overhaul so even old classics feel new. The lack of 3D is something that I dislike about recent games released for 3DS, to the point where I haven't bought them, but here it makes sense. The majority of the games take place on the lower screen to utilise the touch controls and sometimes across both screens for boss battles so having the 3D on the top screen would be distracting I think. Plus the visuals have a brilliant animated look to them that I personally feel works better in 2D.

Overall I feel like this game fits so mych better on the 3Ds than it would on the Switch. Although I hope that there will be a proper Wario Ware game released for the Switch in time...

Gonna dust off my 3DS for wario ware gold. Really enjoyed the demo! Might pick up Detention on the Switch while it's on sale too.

I'll probably have to stump up the cash as I'm enjoying playing Splatoon 2, Mario Kart and Mario Tennis online. But I think it's a real shame that we're having to pay. And having dragged out the launch of their online service it feels even worse to suddenly have to pay for something that I've been enjoying for free. I just hope it doesn't have an impact on the amount of people playing online and make it hard to get an online game.

Will wait to get early reactions to the service once it launches rather than preordering though

Picked up Fractured But Whole recently while it was on sale, plus using my gold points, for £25 and really enjoyed it, although I'm more into Superheroes than Fantasy so will delend on the price poibt for this...

When they announced every fighter for Smash Bros at E3 I was hoping we'd get a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe announcement with every track ever DLC! So fingers crossed that might be this!

I'd be okay with no Mario Kart 9 on the Switch if we kept getting track updates for 8.

@pullmyfinger This site, and particularly articles from Ryan, seem to be getting more and more click-bait-y. He had to edit that article about nintendo blocking pirated games the other week. A shame as I use to come here first for my gaming news but I'm gradually looking elsewhere...

@Tulio517 I also wish the characters unlocked in online tournaments were done in the same way as the demo where you unlocked different characters as you earned more points and reached milestones - think it was every 500 points, but can't remember - rather than what we got now where you just have to play an online match, not even win it, to unlock koopa trooper!

@Moroboshi876 I know what you mean, but I also enjoy working out how to break an opponents tactics, even if I don't win the match. There was a person I was playing the other day who would serve and then cone right up to the net and knock the ball to the furthest corner from me where even my trick shot couldn't reach, until I sussed what he was doing and followed up with a lob and then they had to change their game. I've yet to win a tournament, but I've had some real close matches and back and forths.

Almost 100% handheld for me. With the excellent sleep mode it's so convenient to just pick up when I have a spare 20 minutes and get a bit of gaming in!

@SBandy Agreed. This should have been included, or at least mentioned, in the review, not posted as "News" a few days after release...

Just finished Yoku's Island Express which I loved, so looking forward to picking this up next. And I have enough gold points from picking up Splatoon 2 on sale and a couple of other games recently to get it for free!

Considering downloading Splatoon 2 at that price. I've yet to see it anywhere for less than £45 ...

There was also anannouncement of Fifa 18 getting a free trial "across all formats", which I was interested in until I looked iylt up and it seems to only be PS4, Xbox One and PC...😐

Finally got round to trying out ARMS with the Test-Punch, which was fun...BUT...it never really clicked for me. It felt like playing Street Fighter but only playing as Dhalsim! Will probably give it another shot over the weekend though while it's available.

Gah! I just bought Owlboy last week, but enjoying it so much that I think it's probably worth full price.

I'm fine having these Indie games digitally on my Switch. I picked up Sonic a while ago and really enjoyed it, and to be honest none of those enhacements for the physical release make me feel like I missed out, so no regrets from this gamer. Although the flip sideof that is that I picked up Snake Pass when it was on sale a while ago and really couldn't get into it. But as a digital game I don't have the option of trading it in.

You say naturally, but did they confirm that in the Direct? (They may have and I missed it, so I'm genuinely asking!). Hasn't there been quite a few big name 3ds releases recently (well last year) that didn't use 3D?

If this does, I'll dust off my 3ds and pick it up. If it doesn't, I'll pass.

What are you talking about? I'm in the UK and I've just searched online for 'Donkey Kong Tropical Jungle Switch" and come up with preorders for a physical copy of the game at Tesco, Game, Smyths and more. Did anyone other than you actually think Nintendo were gonna go Digital Only on this?

I already played this on the WiiU so I won't be picking it up again, but it is a great game - far better than DKC Returns - so anyone who hadn't previously played it is in for a treat. And like I commented under your MyNintendo soapbox yesterday, you do know that nobody pays RRP for Physical games, right?

What are you talking about? You can buy a physical game online for between £10-15 less than the digital RRP. And yes, you get 1% cashback instead of 5%, but that's on the RRP rather than how much you paid! Last night I registered all my retail games I've bought since I bougt my Switch in September and got £2.00 worth of points. Added to the 170 gold coins I already had from digital games I'd previously got (which now would earn me more) I was able to get £3.70 off of Celeste. Yes, if I wanted to get a full price retail gane for free using jyst gold coibs, it would require me to spend a LOT of money, but the way I look at it, I can pick up the games I want and then get a discount on the ton of great Indie games on the Switch. Fine with me.

Registered all my physical games last night: Mario +Rabbids, Mario Odyssey, Skyrim and LEGO Marvel and got 50 coins for each. Added to the 170 gold coins I already had in my account from previous e-shop purchases gave me £3.70 discount which I used against Celeste which earned me 70 points. Not too bad.

Anyone know why I wasn't able to register Snipperclips Plus physical? It kept coming up with an error message when I tried. Is it because it was an add-on to the main game so it's counting it as DLC??

Stardew Valley is the one I've put most time into, although Celeste is next on my Buy list (I'm just waiting for the MyNintendo Switch Rewards scheme to go live so I can use my points to get a discount)

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Whereas I play my Switch almost exclusively in handheld mode, which is the beauty of the system: we can both play it in the way that works best for us!

@StephenYap3 I played a bit of this last night and it's actually a good way to get coins for the new costumes while also giving the new mode a try. I only played for an hour or so but ended up with enough coins to buy all but one of the new costumes and I'll probably give it another bash today to earn the rest. Don't see me coming back to this game just for this mode but it's a nice free addition.

Still working through to 100% Lego Marvel 2 on Switch. I want to get Celeste, Owlboy and Night in the Woods, but think I'll wait till the My.nintendo switch discounts go live!

Finished Oxenfree yesterday after picking it up for £3.99 in the eshop a few weeks ago. Will definitely be giving it another play through in time. And did a few more missions in LEGO Marvel 2. After beating the main story, I've been dipping in and out of it. Might try and get back into Skyrim, or beat the last world in Sonic Mania...

@chardir Ah cool. I didn't get a Switch at launch (I got Breath Of The Wild for Wii U) and only took the plunge with Mario + Rabbids in September to ensure I had a console in time for Odyssey, so my coins will be good till whenever in March this launches.

@chardir Oh, cool. I was wondering the same thing! So many people throwing numbers and "facts" around on this thread that I'd lost track of it all. So I should wait and claim my couns on physical games till after this goes live then?

I'm just happy that I'll be able to actually use my gold coins for discounts on games I want rather than just have them expire or buy yet more 3DS themes that I don't want.

I can use my gold coins to get discounts on Switch games I want to buy rather than being spoon-fed discounts by Nintendo for games I either already have or don't want. That's all I care about!

All this whining over exchange rates makes it clear that some people are never happy...

@MoonKnight7 Yeah, I've got a bunch of physical games that I can claim gold points for but holding off till Switch Rewards (hopefully) show up. You have up to 2 years after the gams release to claim the gold points.

Club Nintendo was so much better. I got a SNES classic controller for my Wii, a bunch of Zelda soundtrack cds and liked the fact that you could exchange stars for Wii Shop points and buy what you want. I'd prefer it if they just bought back something like the Wii U Rewards program where you could get eshop credit for the games you bought.

Netflix would be good, but not essential and I have my phone handy to look up anything online, so don't really need a browser. Just give me games!

I loved the format of the direct! They packed a LOT of info in to the fifteen minutes! Sadlythe actually content was less interesting for me. I'd be more excited for Hyrule Warriors and Tropical Freeze if I hadn't already played them to death on the Wii U. I get that Nintendo want to ensure that these games reach the audiences they deserved, but I was really hoping for an all new DKC game. Mario Tennis looks interesting. Especially the Story Mode. I'm almost certainly setting myself up for disappointment by imagining a Mario version of Golf Story...but with tennis!

The Mario Odyssey DLC was a nice surprise, although I thought at the start it was gonna be a Luigi story mode! As it is, looks like a fun diversion and nice to have a reason to pop back into the world after getting 999 moons.

This was probably my highlight of the Direct, with the announcement of a story mode and should be fun for a 2 player knock about on the go (Thanks Joycons!). Will be watchibg this one closely! As others have said it already looks more interesting than Ultra Smash!

I enjoyed Wooly World, but think that the upcoming Yoshi game removes the need for a Wooly World port on Switch.
