Re: Nintendo's Digital Sales Have Increased Almost 50 Percent Year-On-Year

Shadowkiller97

@Alucard83 But the price of games haven't increased for over two entire generations. I guarantee that the cost of making games is much higher now than it was in 2007.

Digital sales are largely the reason. It allows the makers to retain a larger portion of the revenue.

For me the box, the booklet, the disc are definitely not worth the $15 you are implying. I am paying for the software, the game itself. I can get much better/bigger game art elsewhere to display if I really want.

Re: Nintendo's Digital Sales Have Increased Almost 50 Percent Year-On-Year

Shadowkiller97

@Marios-love-child The eShop has some pretty good digital sales now-a-days. Coupled that with the ability to buy eShop cards at discounts, gold points, and sales tax, the price disparity isn't that great and the convenience more than makes up for it in my mind.

Plus digital sales are pretty much the main reason game prices haven't risen past $60 in the last decade.

Re: We've Re-Translated That Pokémon Sword and Shield Interview Quote

Shadowkiller97

@graysoncharles That's not entirely true. I was able to complete the dex in Gen 6 and 7 without paying the $5 and without owning the older games by using the GTS, Wonder Trade, and breeding. I've never personally transferred old Pokémon forward, but I have definitely benefited from the feature being available to others and am bummed out that I won't be able to complete the dex again in the first game on the TV. Also I never had shinies before. Now that I actually have a couple sitting in my Gen 7 carts, I would like to move those forward but might not be able to.

Re: Hands On: Zelda: Link's Awakening On Switch Treads A Fine Line Between Remake And Reimagining

Shadowkiller97

While I don’t disagree that Link’s Awakening is worth $60, I still think it’s an unfair price based on the rest of the video game market. For example, Spyro is three full 3D games re-made from the ground up launching at $40. Even going back to Nintendo, Wind Waker was also an extensive remake but launched at $50. It seems like Nintendo is taking advantage of their fanbase since the Switch is doing so well which is a bummer.

But hey, who am I to talk? Will probably be getting this day one....

Re: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Piranha Plant amiibo Could Cause Some Trouble For Collectors

Shadowkiller97

I have all the Smash amiibo this far. I haven't payed over MSRP for a single one and in many cases got them for less. I did not wait in line for a single one. I did miss out on several in the beginning but was easily able to snag one on the second round of production.

Yes, they sell out pretty quickly. But Nintendo has remade every single Smash one at least once. And on the second round it's really easy to grab one because the hype isn't nearly as high. All you need is some patience.

I remember going to a comic con the summer after Sm4sh and seeing a Captain Falcon amiibo being sold. It was $80. I told him I'd just wait because I'm sure Nintendo will make more. Months later I got one for $10.81 with GCU from Best Buy.

Re: More Fighters Are Being Added To The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate amiibo Line

Shadowkiller97

Missing:

Pokémon Trainer (or Ivysaur/Squirtle)
Snake
Simon
Richter
Dark Samus
Chrom
Incineroar
and obviously the 5 future DLC characters.

That's 23/24 new amiibo ... my wallet aches. I also think I should grab Mii Fighters now (if they reprint them) since they are official characters now (in Sm4sh they were mostly just custom characters). So 27/28 new amiibo to go with my existing 55... I'll have to by a new shelf too...

Edit: At least it's nice of them to spread them out. Much easier to justify when I am spending "only" $30-40 at a time as opposed to thinking about the $400 this is going to cost me...

Re: Review: Diablo III: Eternal Collection - More Loot Than You Can Shake A Magical Pointy Stick At

Shadowkiller97

@rjejr If I remember correctly from when I played the PC version, I think there is some cursing that's to be expected about a game dealing with occult themes. You travel through-out the make-believe world of Sanctuary, Hell and Heaven. You'll encounter grotesque demons and the environments will also reflect the setting, including death, torture, gore, etc. It is all in a cartoony art style though. I don't remember all the cutscenes, but they might be a bit more explicitly violent than the in-game action.

Re: Soapbox: It's Not Cool To Lock Pokémon Behind A Paywall

Shadowkiller97

This is a really odd article.. Nintendo's mobile strategy has always been the to draw people back to consoles and first party games. Additionally, the target audience as stated in this article makes little sense to me. The reason for Let's Go is to provide the experience for kids who cannot play Go because they don't have smartphones and can't walk around alone to spin stops and catch 'mon. So your example of kids at school with FOMO doesn't make sense to me.

By this logic, you could also argue that regional Pokémon are also locked behind a pay wall too. An even more expensive one.. An overseas trip..

Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Cloud Version Screens Released, Switch File Size Also Revealed

Shadowkiller97

@Agramonte True, this would be at home only. But I think its still worthwhile on the Switch regardless. I share the main TV at my home with others so I pick up the Switch to continue gaming in handheld often. Additionally, I have a second dock in my room, so sometimes I will start a game in the living room, and then Switch to my bedroom when someone else wants the TV. These are all home use cases for the portability of the Switch which would make this game more enticing to me than on one of the other systems.

Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Cloud Version Screens Released, Switch File Size Also Revealed

Shadowkiller97

I am interested to know how well RE7 works in Japan. I know this is Japan only at the moment, but I have the internet connection at home to support this kind of service and would be interested in this making it over to the west. I don't have a PS4 or Xbox One at the moment, so if I could play some of the latest games on Switch, even if it is at home only with a constant connection, it would be worth it for me.

Google is working on a new streaming service too, also with AC Odyssey. I know people are against streaming services, but I find it fascinating. If they can get it to work with no lag then it could be amazing. Google is promising 60fps on AC Odyssey, something which no other version currently supports I believe. That gives them 16ms to receive input, render a frame, and send it back via the internet.

Obviously, this doesn't isn't ideal for everybody. But if they can make it work, and the you have the connection to support it, then this could be revolutionary. I have already gone digital only. I know people love physical copies because they can re-visit old games, but honestly, I barely have time for new games without trying to think about replaying old ones. I think a streaming service with access to a rolling game library would be amazing if it has an affordable monthly cost. I probably buy about 5-6 full price games per year, and maybe another 3-4 games on sale. That ends up to about $400 per year on games. A streaming service that costs even $20 a month would be worth considering.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story Is Back On Nintendo 3DS With Added Content

Shadowkiller97

I don't understand this port at all. The game is already possible to be played on the 3DS since it's backwards compatible. It doesn't seem like it will have 3D. The original game had a two-screen approach already. There is literally nothing different this port does other than change the aspect ratio of the top screen and some add-on content for the Bowser Jr stuff.

I also don't understand why the 3DS games announced (Warioware, Luigi's Mansion, and this) were not dual releases like the rest (Sushi Strikers, Captain Toad). I get that they want to support the 70M+ users who might not have upgraded yet, but they can do that with dual releases just the same. Obviously there is a difference in development time/costs, but still. I love the 3DS and it is truly an amazing console, but it's disappointing that those who did move on to the Switch are missing out.

Re: Nintendo's New "Extended Input" Patent Hints At Donkey Konga Bongo Support On Switch

Shadowkiller97

@rjejr Good point about the Wii peripherals. I think this might be a bit different since they wont need to snap on to the joy-con's buttons. Instead it can have its own buttons with their own resistance, springs, etc. Basically the same as stand alone controllers but just no tech inside. The tech is the joy-con that just reads the reflective tape. It will be interesting to see how well this works in practice.

Re: Nintendo's New "Extended Input" Patent Hints At Donkey Konga Bongo Support On Switch

Shadowkiller97

@rjejr But if they can utilize the joy-con for all the technical bits, then the accessories are simply plastic (cardboard) shells that should be very cheap to buy. I would much prefer this since everyone has a joy-con already.

I think if we go back to one of the patents in the NX days, it talked about simple mechanical buttons and IR sensors. The hype back then was that it would be cheap/easy to get customized controllers. So I think that might become a reality now, just not quite the same as we were originally expecting.

Re: Video: This New Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition Trailer Is Full To The Brim

Shadowkiller97

@abbyhitter I had the Wii U version and the season pass too. I admit I didn't actually play the last pack or two in the season pass. I had it on disc and never got around to switching it back to Hyrule Warriors. Watching the trailers, I feel like there is tons I didn't really play and all the 3DS characters that I didn't get, so I am on board with getting it again (digital this time).

Re: Video: Watch Link Beat Up Some Crowds In A New Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition Trailer

Shadowkiller97

I had this on the Wii U, but fell off of it near the last batch of Wii U DLC (the giant Cucco). The trailer made me excited for it though because of all the characters I missed out on from the 3DS version. However, I was really hoping for a Hyrule Warriors 2 that added BotW characters. The new costumes are nice but I would like to see the Champions or their descendants. Maybe we will get them as DLC? We did get ALBW DLC for the 3DS so I suppose it's possible.

Re: Video: There Are More Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Than You Might Expect

Shadowkiller97

@SanderEvers I hope it is separate so that you can buy the toy-cons individually. Or that it is the same cart in both sets and that it is upgradeable via DLC. That way future sets are just the cardboard sheets and they can be cheaper.

EDIT: I guess it depends on the breadth of the software. If they are mini-game/tech demos I would prefer if it is an upgradeable platform that supports future toy-con sets via free DLC or paid DLC that comes with the sets. If they are more fleshed out games, I guess that wouldn't work as well.

Re: Video: There Are More Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Than You Might Expect

Shadowkiller97

@gaga64 Sure, if you go buy individual arts & crafts supplies for kids, it can be pretty cheap. But if you go buy any kind of set or project, these typically range from $10-30 each on the cheaper end. Once you consider that, the variety pack actually has 5 different toy-cons so these actually end up being $14 each. That isn't bad at all. Even if you remove the RC cars, you get $17.50 each. One of the hands-on-articles mentioned the piano takes approximately 2 hours to build. If the other three also take 1-2 hours each, you have 5-8 hours of just building the kits. Add to that the coloring, painting, and decorating and you have 10ish hours before you even get to using the software side of it.

I am more skeptical of the robot backpack pricing. It is more elaborate and larger, but maybe the game is also meatier?

Re: Video: There Are More Nintendo Labo Toy-Con Than You Might Expect

Shadowkiller97

@SEM Just a couple of thoughts:

1) LEGO's really aren't like that any more. Most of the ones I see my nephews playing with come in a specific kit. The pieces are designed/colored to make a specific thing and they come with instructions to let you know how to make that thing. Yes, you can break it down and do it again and customize it to a certain extent, but I don't see that happening often or ever. The kids just move on to the next kit. So I think in that light, this is very similar.

2) Regarding durability, I fail to see how it is any more or less durable than any other Arts & Crafts project for kids. The difference with this is that you can add your Switch to these to do cool inventive things. I do not think these are designed or expected to last months (let alone years). The creation is part of the entertainment value. The decoration is part of the entertainment value. And then after you do that, you can add the console to do some cool neat things. But then you put it aside and move on to the next one. It is for a video game console, but it is not just a normal video game so it seems unfair to compare it to one. It is more of an Arts & Craft meets STEM type of product.

Re: Feature: Vote For Your 2017 Nintendo Life Game of the Year

Shadowkiller97

BotW is an amazing game and I put over 200 hours into it. But afterwards I still have a Zelda itch. I appreciate the new direction but too much was missing for me, items and dungeons and most of all unique bosses.

So even though it doesn't have as high of a play time, for me it's Odyssey. It is everything a Mario game needs to be and more. They experimented, innovated, and more and stayed true to the Mario experience.
