Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Low-Key Approach to the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut Reveals Wasn't Surprising

Shadowkiller97

@Kirk ... Once again, how do you know that the single big screen is rectangular in shape and not T-shaped like a Tetris piece!? You don't which spoils your whole argument. Like I said, we dont care that you made a prettier (in your mind) picture. But if you are claiming that the original is flawed and your's is better... nothing can be dubbed self-explanatory. And one example (which I just rendered mute) is not enough. Explain every single design change or again I give you the option of building me a Penrose Staircase and I will just take your word for it.

@Kirk No, I do not know what you mean. I have read all your responses (like you keep telling others to do) and in none of them, do you address how your tweaks would be physically possible while also remaining cheap.

"I'm just Tweaking what's already there." How can you tweak something when you do not even know what's already there? You keep harping on the fact that the stretching of the screen is easily possible by removing the plastic that is covering up the screen. But you do not know that there is plastic covering up the screen... Yes, we know there is only one screen split by a plastic divider, but you took that to assume it is one large rectangular screen. It is entirely possible (and quite likely) that the screen is in fact a T-shape with no plastic covering up the screen except for the dividing bit.

As others have stated, its okay that you created a picture that you think looks more aesthetically pleasing but it is out of line to say it is an improvement in a flawed hardware design without proving how your improvement is possible.

@Kirk "And let me reiterate; It was a quick Tweaking, that took a couple of hours mucking around in Photoshop, and with even more time I'd improve it even further."

How does using Photoshop to edit a picture equal a re-design of a physical device? I can draw all sorts of thing that would be impossible to build in real life, so I do not get what you are trying to prove with your "quick Tweaking." If you can explain how your tweaks would work from an engineering standpoint and would align with Nintendo's goal of creating a cheaper variant, please enlighten us. Otherwise, build me a Penrose Staircase and I will agree with you without any explanations.

Re: 3D Gaming is Very Much A Part of Nintendo's Future Plans

Shadowkiller97

@Marakuto Well, closing the lid is putting the DS to sleep. So since Phantom Hourglass requires you to put the DS to sleep (close the lid) to solve a puzzle, you should be able to accomplish that on the 2DS with the sleep button.

Also, while all 3DS games have a 3D effect that is utilized differently, I have not ever come across one where it's mandatory. And I doubt there will be one where its mandatory. I love the 3D effect personally, but my sister who has a lazy eye cant stand it. Which is why the option to turn off is there... which would be rendered mute if the effect was mandatory for a game.

Re: 3D Gaming is Very Much A Part of Nintendo's Future Plans

@Knux I don't think so. As other people have stated, it's for parents concerned about kid's accidentally turning on 3D and messing with their eyes.

The 3D effect was not what sold me the 3DS. The games did. And every review I read before buying mentioned how 3D was a gimmick that everyone just turned off... However, I play most of my games in 3D mode 90% of the time. I love the 3D effect. The option to turn it off is great too for the games that don't do it well (I dont like it on for New Leaf and Heroes of Ruin) and for when traveling/saving battery. But 90% of the time... it's 3D on! I understand some people get headaches or whatever... but I love it!

Re: Wii U Hardware Still Being Sold At A Loss

@TheAdza You're not giving the Gamepad enough credit. Sure, it is not a capacitve multitouch screen, but it is one of the best resistive touch screens I have come across. Also, do not forget it has built-in NFC. I think people forget about that because it has not been utilized by anything as of yet. Even low-end non-HD smartphones cost around $400 and this is an entire gaming console!

But the biggest feature of the Gamepad that everyone keeps forgetting is the fact that it can wirelessy receive a video feed with virtually no latency. And it does this on its own bandwidth. All of the alternatives (Smartglass, Vita Remote Play, etc.) use local Wi-Fi to do the streaming, which means that if you are using the Wi-Fi for anything else (downloading, other users, etc.) it will affect your latency. And lets not forget that the only way to make the Gamepad be utilized by anyone is to include it in every system. If it becomes an optional accessory, very few games would add the features to use it, because developers/publishers would see it as an easy cost to cut.

I played this at the Best Buy event on Saturday. It is quite stunning visually. Yes, the levels feel similar to DKCR but that is not that bad a thing. And the new camera angles for the barrel blasts are pretty awesome. That alone changes things enough to make this a worthwhile sequel. Also the new enemies are way cooler than the Tikis.

Re: Waiting For Wii U To Drop In Price? Not Going To Happen, Says Nintendo

Shadowkiller97

All you people comparing the Deluxe Wii U $350 to the PS4 $400... are comparing the wrong version. It should be Basic $300 to PS4 $400... a $100 difference.

The Deluxe comes with a game! If parents are going shopping for the holiday season... they can buy the Deluxe with a game and that's it. Plus if they have a Wii at home already, it can play those as well. With a PS4 you buy the console for $400 and you need at least one game at $60. You cannot play any PS3 games and it would be foolish to buy a gaming console and have nothing to play with it. That then brings the comparison to $350 vs $460... a $110 difference. So yes the Wii U has as significant a price difference to the PS4 as the PS4 does to the Xbox One.

On a side note, I went to the Nintendo Experience at Best Buy on Saturday and all the Wii Us were sold out at that branch.

Re: First Impressions: Super Mario 3D World

Shadowkiller97

@Peach64 I agree with you. The game looks like a ton of fun and I personally loved 3D Land and will probably get this day one. But it does look like it started on 3DS as the sequel to 3D Land and was swapped... Mario in HD looks fine and all... but compared to Mario Kart 8 or Super Smash Bros. or Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze, 3D World does not look like its HD at all....

Re: Zelda Oracle Titles To Have an Initial Discount on the 3DS Virtual Console in North America

Shadowkiller97

@SirQuincealot Yes. Completely different maps and dungeons. They also have different items and mechanics. Seasons works by changing the environment by changing the seasons. (i.e. winter has trees with no leaves so you can walk between them whereas spring has trees blocking the path with full leaves). In Ages, you go back and forth between time periods. There are also mounts and characters that differ between the two... though there are a few recurring characters too.
