Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition may be a triple-dip for Nintendo and Koei Tecmo, but we're nevertheless quite interested in playing it for a third time in portable HD.
To drum up interest ahead of launch, Koei Tecmo has released a fresh trailer which is literally bursting at the seams with content. There's action, fairies and even a look at the visually upscaled DLC that launched alongside the 3DS version.
The game arrives in Japan on March 22nd, with a worldwide release coming some time this year. Perhaps we'll get a solid launch date for North America and Europe during today's Nintendo Direct?

I enjoyed this on Wii U but I never got into all the extra maps and stuff. After playing Fire Emblem Warriors for over 100 hours, though, something clicked and I’ve got “Warriors Fever” and so I’ll likely be picking this up in an attempt to 100% it this time.
I might be tempted to buy it again. Sure I have the wii u version already but never bought the DLC for it.
It all depends if it has 60fps or not. Though for the people that don't care for fps atleast have an option like Fire Emblem warriors like [email protected] or [email protected] That would be the only reason for me to double dip on this game.
I have it on the New 3ds, and I got FE Warriors on the Switch, so I won’t be getting this. But this is great for those who want it or didn’t get to play it.
Got both on Wii U and New 3DS, but will still get this for switch, wish there was a way to transfer saves though, grinding through some of the maps again will be exhusting
One of my most anticipated games, hopefully they lock down a release date today, can't wait to play it!
I have the Wii U version and the season pass content. Never got the 3DS version. Just wondering if the Windwaker and Linkle content is enough to warrant another purchase.
I’m avoiding this sight until the direct is over. See you guys later when everyone is arguing whether it was a good direct or not.
Skipped this the first two times it was released. Didn't like being tethered to the TV on Wii U or the lower visual fidelity and worse performance of the 3DS version. Turns out you CAN have your cake and eat it, too!
Day one unless Nintendo drops a whole lot of bombs in this Direct (really unlikely, so, yeah, probably day one!)
Cool. This really grabbed me on WiiU and 3ds and I'll inevitably get it again.
After spending 200 hours on Fire emblem I need more! Day one for me!
I can't go back to Hyrule after FE Warriors! But i did played a lot in Wii U so it's ok!
Interesting time right before the ND, would have thought it would be in there. We'll that's even better, more time for other games now. 😊 This should still be in there with a date though.
Is this version getting amiibo support? That crazy spinning top weapon was one of the best things amiibo ever gave me but I'd prefer they just include it in the game for everyone else now. I got most of my good weapons from amiibo I think. And horses too maybe, it's been awhile.
Can I also say that I absolutely love how excited the narrators in these Japanese trailers always sound? There's so much enthusiasm and personality.
I wonder if we'll finally hear something about all the other musou games for Switch that so far have remained exclusive to Japan...
Ok, so maybe that will still be in the ND in English.
So what's the Japanese title - Legend of Zelda Hyrule Warriors DX. I could read Zelda and DX, guessing at the rest.
I didn't see any sign of amiibo on the box, guess those are gone, no more 1 rupee scans, that was half the fun. OK maybe not.
i am considering on getting this (didnt play it before). however, i played fate/extella on switch and was greatly underwhelmed. i get that fate and hyrule warriors both belong to the same genre, maybe someone who played them both could tell me whether hyrule is largely the same or way better than extella…?
I should not be this excited about a game I already own. Getting digital this time around.
@slaine HW has more character variety and I feel the camera is less unwieldy than it is in Fate. Also the story such that it is in Fate can bog you down if you don't know anything about the franchise. I had to spend a week on the series wiki page before the game clicked with me. YMMV of course.
@thesilverbrick same here. I even sold FEW. Though it has more advanced gameplay than HWDE, the Zelda universe characters are more fun and diverse to play with. Really looking forward to this!!
Tons of characters, platforming bits, numerous items... and are there humanoid fairies in Zelda after all, or is that a special thing like Linkle?
Anyway, looks rich. I'm still leaning towards making Fire Emblem Warriors my first true musou experience (especially since I'm still bitter about Heroes not being officially downloadable in Belarus a whole year after launch), but I was curious about this one even back when I got to play the demo of Legends on 3DS. By now, might as well consider it on my wishlist. As well as Dragon Quest Heroes if it's ever actually localised at last. Hey, we have got Detective Pikachu at 3DS's eleventh hour.
Too bad these are no Warriors based on franchises I'm more extensively acquainted with, although there are few such franchises to begin with and it's my very own first world problem. That said, I do find myself marveling at the absence of Final Fantasy Warriors, especially since that franchise must have tapped into pretty much every other genre imaginable - fighters, rhythm games, monster hunting... even fishing simulators! XD
Skipped it the first time, so my interest is definitely there for this.
@Ralizah they all sound like narrator voices in shounen anime, IMHO.
Yes, that was meant to be a compliment.
As I've said before, only had the 3ds version, and no dlc. So this is a no brainer for me. Super excited! Hope it's same day as Japan.
@Ralizah -if their enthusiasm is firing you up, then they've done their job and done it right.
I was really interested in the new stuff for 3DS and was sad, that they didn't bring it to the WiiU version as DLC. So maybe I'll get it on Switch for that.
@abbyhitter I had the Wii U version and the season pass too. I admit I didn't actually play the last pack or two in the season pass. I had it on disc and never got around to switching it back to Hyrule Warriors. Watching the trailers, I feel like there is tons I didn't really play and all the 3DS characters that I didn't get, so I am on board with getting it again (digital this time).
Played to near on Wii U and not so much on the 3ds. I think I'll pass on this one, at least until I 100% Fire Emblem Warrior which is more possible for me compared to Hyrule Warriors (Wii U).
Glad I’ve held off on this game for years. I’d be ticked if I bought the Wii U version.
I bought the Wii U version and then traded it in for the New 3DS XL version. I'm not sure I'm ready to pay a third time for this game.
Wii U: HD
3DS: Portable
Switch: Portable HD
Innovation!
Ahem I'll still shamelessly buy the game especially considering how I never bought the previous games since I wasn't interested in it for Wii U and I don't own a 3DS.
ZZzzzZZZ... so let me pay $60 dollars to replay a 3DS game because it has better graphics. So, I guess graphics do matter 😉
No reason to pay $60 for it when it first comes out. Just like FE:W this will be on sale soon after release. Whenever that will be.
Hopefully the Direct makes the 2018 lineup less of a snoozefest
@Ralizah hopefully they have a special edition would like to have some sort of collectable 😎
I played through the Wii U version with a friend, though I never bought the game myself. Can't wait for this version!
Did anyone else find this game too difficult? I love FE warriors because the difficulty is just right. I remember that this game was super hard even when I had my characters at LVL 120+ I couldn’t even get past half of the twilight map
Very conflicted about this game. It looks heaps better and more diverse than the other hack and slash in this genre, which is already out for the Switch. I love a good (frantic) romp, but apart from gameplay I also love my story and cut scenes. More than the option to customize the look of your elf. Let us see what the reviews will say as I never played a game in this genre before, ever. But this game... the trailers I have seen. Consider my interest seriously risen right about now.
I have the soundtrack and it’s epic. That alone sells me on this game
I'm glad some people can enjoy this game, but I also kind of hate that it exists. Zelda games rarely mention wars in Hyrule, but when they do, it is with hushed tones. Zelda is about going on an adventure, not about killing zillions of dudes. It's a total tone mismatch and bad fanfiction.
@Frank90 I liked Hyrule warriors pretty well is fire emblem warriors even better. I don't know if I want to pick Hyrule Warriors up again especially at full price after I played through most of it and already traded it in back in the day, but was curious how good fire emblem warriors was.
@slaine Hyrule Warriors has a lot more going for it than Fate/Extella. It's the same hack-and-slash gameplay, of course, but HW feels much more rewarding. You have different modes, more vibrant characters, fairies to upgrade and a lot of little things that make HW more fun.
Also, Fate/Extella is wordy as hell. It feels like a visual novel at times, and so far (speaking as a complete neophyte in the Fate franchise) the story just isn't all that interesting.
march 22 in japan!!?? dang, i thought that was US too.
oh well.
I may buy it if it renders more enemies say one time, as I already did about 270 hours on my Wii u. Also what is the frame rate?
Chances are it'll be around Japan's date, no idea why NOA is taking forever to give us a date.
@rjejr The Spinner will be in the game, most likely unlocked the same way as it was in Hyrule Warriors Legends. The Link amiibo didn't unlock the spinner in that game, and you had to get it in an Adventure Map. Also, the Japanese name is Zelda Musou Hyrule All-Stars DX. In case you don't know, Musou is what they call the Warriors series in Japan.
Warrior games don't SEEM to appeal to me (never played one, but have watched them being played) - but this is such a fun celebration of the franchise that I will day 1 this. HOPING that they announce today, the Champions for this...maybe you have the option of using the amiibo to get them or offer them down the line as DLC.
I just adore Mipha - great design - DLC really made her character well rounded - don't fade away!
@Knuckles Thanks for all the info. Not sure I'm digging that name. I do know about musou, but that name is not exactly rolling off my tongue, it's like a random string of words. Probably sounds very cool in Japanese though.
I haven't checked out the game before, with all this content it might be time I change that.
I'm really curious about what has been improved. It looks like they altered gannondorf's broken attack to just hit forward instead of everywhere around him?
I'm most curious as to whether this has multiplayer (which the 3DS didn't) and if it's improved over the WiiU, as when you had 2 players on WiiU, if you were both fighting in separate areas with a lot of enemies, they'd really only spawn for one person. I would hope that you can play co-op with two switches, each using it's processing power to render enemies.
@wollywoo
But it is fanfiction, absolute fanfiction. And much better Zelda co-op than tri-force heroes, and much more co-operative than four-swords
@Ryu_Niiyama
@JasmineDragon
thx for your inputs, will give HW a try then. basically fate just felt empty and boring (gameplay, characters, ui, story). the fact that i like zelda might help
@wollywoo There was a civil war mentioned in Ocarina of Time and there was also a war between forces of Ganon and Hylian knights in the backstory for Link to the Past.
I'm thinking about picking up Hyrule Warriors, but personally I'd prefer these wars to be presented as strategy games. Evil campaigns included
@slaine no problem
@slaine It's definitely a plus if you like the Legend of Zelda. Like khaosklub said, it's Zelda fan fiction, and it's always fun to be Link.
