Fml… Skull Tyrant part 2 has bugged out for me. I died and he didn’t come back. A quick search shows I’m not the only one. Was really hoping this would be fixed soon but no mention of it in the notes… 😓
It’s counterintuitive to have to burn cards to be able to trade.. the cards that I need to burn are the ones other people want for trade….
Edit: I calculated I need 4,720 trade tokens to trade for all the 3-4 diamond and 1 star cards I’m missing. If I burn every single extra card I have that gives tokens, I can get 2,925 tokens. That’s great! It gets me more than halfway there… only now I’ve gotten rid of the cards I need for trading…
@WaffleRaptor01 I don’t disagree with you about the original Zelda.. but Nintendo created a specific type of game (basically its own genre: Zelda-like) that it did for 25 years after the original starting with A Link to the Past. Those are the games I grew up with and fell in love with and what defined Zelda for me.
I like BotW and love TotK, but they don’t really satisfy the Zelda itch for me. When you’ve got 18 games and 14 of them are one style, it’s unfair to argue the new games are true Zelda games because they tie back to the original which is an outlier.
Innovation is great! And I think the games within the old formula used to do that with new mechanics and unique items. The new games are pretty much a different type of game, which I do enjoy. But I still want more Zelda-likes and lament that Nintendo doesn’t want to make them anymore.
@ScalenePowers @AJWolfTill I came here the same as you! With Nintendo moving away from the older Zelda formula, am really hoping others fill the void. There haven’t been many others to my knowledge, but I’ve loved them all: Okami, Star Fox Adventures, Darksiders 1 & 2. If anyone knows of any others, I’ll happily give them a try!
@Bobb I'll take a stab.. 1. yes 2. when Bowser gets angry and flames a koopa troopa 3. yes, he wants to marry her to become king of the Mushroom Kingdom too 4. an inheritance war between the koopalings, Bowser Jr., and Peach 5. he's a clone
@JohnnyMind The other difference is that locally, if one of the other players hits a block or grabs a coin, it's been hit or grabbed. Online, the shadow players grabbing coins don't have them grabbed in your game so you can still get them. But other than that fact, you're right, it's mostly the same.
@Sam_TSM my counter to your anecdote about working cartridges is that I still have a working gameboy advance 🤪… by the time my system stops working it will probably be too costly/challenging to buy a new system anyways because it will be long out of production and I’ll probably be playing the New Super Ultra Switch 128 😉.
Also, with Wii U and 3DS, you couldn’t buy a new system and easily re-download your games even when the eShop was active 🤪. Games were tied to the hardware not to your account.
@Mando44646 Are you upset that you can’t make any new purchases from a store that closed down or are you upset that you can’t download additional copies of a previous purchase forever into the future. Because at first you had mentioned the latter… and the former is just like Toys R Us shutting down. Nothing lasts forever. And if you’re okay with rebuying games, many of the best games get ported anyways. The ones that don’t probably aren’t that great anyways 😉.
And just like you can buy used physical games, you could buy a used downloaded game.. you would just have to buy the entire used console and attached account. 😝
There’s some old classic games I own that I want to replay but I barely have time to keep up with all the new stuff that is coming out.. Yes, I may not be able to easily buy a delisted digital game 20 years from now… but I’d imagine I have many more better, newer things to buy and play in 20 years than an old game with such little staying power that it wasn’t remade or re-released haha 🤪.
@Mando44646 You cannot buy a new physical copy if they’ve stopped printing copies. We’re talking years after the console has been retired.. Neither Nintendo nor other big third party publishers are making new physical copies of Wii or 3DS games.
You mentioned SD cards or HDDs going bad.. well discs can get scratched and game cards are just as likely to go bad as SD cards..
Keep in mind that whether you buy a physical game or a digital game, you’re buying one single copy. It’s absurd any way you look at it to expect any company to provide you with access to unlimited copies of anything.
@Mando44646 Yes, the ability to re-download goes away. But once you have it downloaded (before the store closes), they can’t go and zap it off of your SD card. Once it’s been downloaded, it’s no different than a physical copy (except if you try to resell).
“And if Sony and Nintendo won't honor past purchases, I have no faith in the digital ecosystem.” If you buy a physical game from Best Buy, and you break it, lose it, destroy it, etc., you can’t go back to Best Buy indefinitely and demand they honor your past purchase and give you another copy. Why then do the eShops have to indefinitely honor your past purchase and let you download another copy if you delete it?
@Sam_TSM @Mando44646 I don’t understand this particular outcry over the eShop closures. I somewhat understand the disappointment over not being able to buy new copies of digital-only games, but for anything you’ve already bought, the closure doesn’t affect anything you’ve already downloaded. It’s not like physical copies give you unlimited copies either.. if you lose or damage your physical game card, you can’t get it back again unless you buy another copy. Why is a game downloaded on an SD card so much worse than a game printed on a game card?
While I would be happy if they got rid of it, I’m not sure they will because of all the various systems built around it. I would like it if they created a healthy mix of breakable/non-breakable items. One of my biggest annoyances was that everything was a “breakable weapon”. Bring back hammers, deku leaves, torches, magic rods, hookshots, etc as an item class of their own with its own inventory slots. Then I wouldn’t mind as much that swords/spears break. Also… bows breaking was the dumbest thing ever; those were already resource constrained with arrows (which were pretty rare for most the game)!!
I get that catching was core to Pokémon Legends: Arceus gameplay and that it might be weird to constantly throw pokeballs everywhere in SV. However, beyond the ability to catch without battling, I’d like to see the following QoL improvements in the new Gen.
1) ability to throw your Pokémon out to start a battle instead of transitioning into a battle from collision 2) movement during battle, being able to run away by running away 3) swapping Pokémon in battle without going through the menu 4) throwing a pokeball in battle without going through the menu 5) choosing went to evolve 6) equippable moves 7) taking out your Pokémon to interact with them 8) ride Pokémon (possibly even ride your own Pokémon like LGPE) 9) easy swap between riding 10) battle animations where Pokémon actually go up and attack each other (as opposed to attacking the air in the center of the field) 11) visible shinies in the overworld
@Radbot42 I think they do more than is initially apparent.. but you have to take time to notice it. Wild Machoke will run up to you and flex. Aipom will follow you around especially if you throw food at some other Pokémon. Teddiursa are generally not aggressive when they see you, but if there is an Ursaring near you, they notify it and that then comes charging at you. They will nap in various ways (Psyduck sleeping on it’s back is amusing). Mantyke/Mantine actually jump out of the water and fly for a bit and then go back underwater. I also found it cool that Decidueye (that is normally just standing on land battles) will be flying over water (instead of just getting a float like other land based Pokémon).
It’s not as intricate as Pokémon Snap but that’s to be expected. I’d imagine they’d elaborate on future titles.
@StarPoint Ori and the Will of the Wisps did a very good job with that too. In fact, I think it did a better job with story than Dread. That game is pure magic, from the art style, gameplay, music, atmosphere, to story.. it hits all the notes!
While I too hated breakable weapons and would prefer them to go away, I think the bigger issue was that everything was a breakable weapon and there were no “items”. I’d be much more tolerant of breaking weapons if they brought back items. Things like the sledgehammer, the torch, the rods, and the deku leaf in BotW should have been items instead of just another weapon type. Augment this with some other series staples like hookshot (to help you halfway up your climb), shovel, cane, cape, etc. and more gear like Zora’s armor/helm that give you abilities instead of just stats. Then breakable weapons wouldn’t feel so annoying (except bows… different bows didn’t change up the play style so that was just dumb) and you would actually have meaningful things and upgrades to find in the world.
I get the ownership and the ability to trade/sell but I don’t see how the nature of being an NFT allows for the ability to “play them in any third-party or unofficial app today or in 20 years from now.” Those apps/software would have to be coded to maintain compatibility and we all know that is an realistic expectation (version updates, increasing volume of items to support, etc.). See Pokémon Sword/Shield and the incomplete dex fiasco 😝
@BloodNinja The reasoning behind blockchain itself was to prove/show that you could have a series of transactions secured and verified without a regulatory body or a single entity. The ledger is secured by the participants in the transactions via the blockchain.
The NFT and their use in gaming is a bit more nebulous.
@BloodNinja It’s part of the design I believe. Each additional chain requires additional computing and the longer the chain is the more computations are required. It was designed this way so that no one computer would be strong enough to change something that already happened, hence why it is so secure.
It’s also why there was/is a shortage of GPUs as they were being bought up to mine cryptocurrency by doing blockchain calcs. I read it significantly increases your electricity bill by having those calcs run all the time such that if you were trying to mine Bitcoin on your own, the cost outweighs the gain.
Ori and the Will of the Wisps! That was GotY for me in 2020 and I replayed it again a few months and it blew me away a second time. The other game recent game (relatively speaking) that comes to mind is A Link Between Worlds.
1. A Link to the Past
2. Super Mario Galaxy
3. Ori and the Will of the Wisps
4. A Link Between Worlds
5. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze
I think this gameplay design is a double edged sword. It was pretty awesome discovering that you could solve puzzles in new, unorthodox ways. But once that discovery happens, the puzzles felt more trivial than ever before because for most of them, you didn’t really have to solve the puzzle any more.
@Ogbert I think it is more worrisome here that these are direct copies of official artwork. Maybe the wood medium gets them out of that though. Hopefully they don’t get a cease and desist. If they do, maybe they can come up with some original artwork with the characters.
While I don't necessarily agree with Epic on all counts, Apple does have some unfair practices as well.
The 30% that is being argued here is more for IAP as opposed to the cut for apps that aren't free. Apps like Walmart, Best Buy, Uber Eats, etc. are all allowed to use their own payment systems that are free of Apple's 30% cut. Apple's argument? Those are physical, offline goods. Virtual items must use Apple's system. ClassPass is a good example of this unfair treatment. It's app used to sell exercise classes at local gyms. These were free from Apple's cut. During the pandemic, it started selling online exercise classes. They had to start paying the 30% because the classes are now "virtual".
There is little in the way of alternatives. If you somehow direct customers to your own website for purchases, the app gets blocked. Additionally, if you push down this 30% cost to the customer, you are not allowed to disclose it to the customer either. If you do, the app gets blocked.
I think the 30% for initial app costs is justified, but asking for 30% on each IAP is where things tend to go too far. I do understand though that if this is the direction things end up, you would get tons of "free" apps with all the features locked behind an IAP. However, I think Apple could create terms/policies to prevent such loopholes (i.e. forcing IAP to be additional content or requiring apps to split "free" and "pro" versions on the app store).
The virtual goods definition is where the problem lies, but there does appear to be an alternative. For example, I can currently use Best Buy's iOS app to buy an eShop gift card. The card is virtual as a code is emailed to me. So Fortnite could have just sold v-buck codes in the app that then get emailed to you and you then redeem on Epic's site. I'd imagine Apple would shut that down somehow though if that was all you sold.
Aaaagh.. sold out already. I really wanted that Team Super Mushroom shirt! Had it in my cart and everything and then got distracted by work before checking out. FML
I hope more come in stock.. it can't be that hard to print more t-shirts right!?
I think the main games are fine from this perspective. Pokémon Go might cause the real issue once compatibility with Home is accomplished. Maybe they need to block Go shinies from Home?
@RobotReptile They have actually used that term in the past. Hosted by Bill Trinen June 1st, 2015 as a precursor to their E3 presentation a week later. Was 17 minutes long with 8 announcements which included new games as well as DLC updates.
I think they should get renamed since the original names had to do with typing...
Mysticuno, Punchidos, and Blactres
Also, it's cool that they went for a type triangle with Psychic, Fighting, and Dark... but Punchidos gets screwed since they each have a secondary type of Flying.
EDIT: I guess Vulpix and Sandshrew/Sandslash never got name changes with their type change either... but legendaries should be an exception
Anyone know if the Japanese version will have an English language option? Don't know if I want to go through all the trouble of changing regions if I wont be able to read the text at the end of the day.
While I was super hyped for the return of GTS, it’s not as great as I’d hoped.
I was hoping that there would be better search functions/filters but they’re largely the same as always (including being able to request mythicals when they can’t be traded).
As a free user it’s also very hard to use the GTS to fill the dex. For example, I was browsing yesterday and found a Type: Null up in exchange for Avalugg. So I had to close the app on my phone, grab my Switch, login to Pokémon Home, find the Avalugg in my box and move it, save and close, then reboot the app on my phone, go back to the GTS only to find that it had already been traded or removed.
I’m fine with the GTS being part of Home but it absolutely needs to be part of the Switch App. It would be even better if we could use the Switch App to trade away Pokémon in SwSh or LGPE boxes without moving them first.
Other complaints:
The Pokédex doesn’t save alternate forms as the display.
I wish the Pokédex gave evolution details (lvl, stone, method, etc.).
I wish the Pokédex gave details on which moves the Pokémon can learn.
Wonder box is garbage. It takes hours for the trade to go through.. at first thought it was a bug. But I noticed when I changed one of them out that the other two completed hours before the one I changed. So it seems intentionally based on number of hours deposited.
Notifications on the iOS app don’t work. Have to keep logging in to check if the trade went through.

Re: There's A Super Mario Splatfest Scheduled For Splatoon 2 Next January
Aaaagh.. sold out already. I really wanted that Team Super Mushroom shirt! Had it in my cart and everything and then got distracted by work before checking out. FML
I hope more come in stock.. it can't be that hard to print more t-shirts right!?
Re: Talking Point: Are Shiny Pokémon Too Common These Days?
I think the main games are fine from this perspective. Pokémon Go might cause the real issue once compatibility with Home is accomplished. Maybe they need to block Go shinies from Home?
Re: Watch: Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase July 2020
@RobotReptile They have actually used that term in the past. Hosted by Bill Trinen June 1st, 2015 as a precursor to their E3 presentation a week later. Was 17 minutes long with 8 announcements which included new games as well as DLC updates.

Re: Pokémon HOME Update Finally Gets Rid Of 'Impossible' Trade Requests
This is great! But it seems only present for new deposits. All of the ones currently in there with impossible requests weren’t pushed out 😢
Re: New Legendaries, Star Tournament And More Revealed For Pokémon Sword And Shield
EDIT2: Colpix and Iceshrew/Iceslash
Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Shell Prices - How Much Do Shells Sell For?
I have never seen a Pearl Oyster, Scallop Shell, White Scallop, Oyster Shell, or Porceletta on my island. Where are these found!?
Re: Nintendo To Remaster 'Most Of Super Mario’s 35-Year Catalogue' For Switch in 2020, New Report Says
My hopes are definitely rising. But a couple other rumors that were corroborated by multiple outlets are still keeping it in check:
GCN Virtual Console
Metroid Prime Trilogy
Star Fox Grand Prix
Re: Nintendo Announces Indie World Showcase For Tomorrow
@glorymade Indie World I think is hosted by NoE versus Nindies is hosted by NoA.
Re: Overwatch And Diablo Animated Series Are In Development
Ideally it will be the cinematic team creating entire shows with that quality..
Realistically, it will be much less effort
Re: Switch Online Subscribers Will Soon Be Able To Play Dead Cells For Free In Japan
Anyone know if the Japanese version will have an English language option? Don't know if I want to go through all the trouble of changing regions if I wont be able to read the text at the end of the day.
Re: Poll: After 24 Hours, How Are You Getting On With Pokémon HOME?
