@rjejr Yea, this was announced in the same video as the original Mega Evolution reveal. It was flashed pretty quick in the video, and there has been so much information since then that most people either missed it or completely forgot about it.
@Warruz I'm hoping for 3D Land style S-Worlds of each of the original worlds.
Also, in 3D Land, after you beat every world, and unlock Luigi, the game starts to keep track of the levels you beat with Mario, Luigi, and yellow flags. That motivated me to get all 3 stamps for each level. Looking forward to keeping track of 5 stamps with this game!
@Pachterkid I completely agree 99% (I still like the star collecting too). Even though Galaxy sort of went back to the roots with power-ups and all, 3D Land did it so much better because you had mini-Mario and the mushroom and all. Plus power-ups were far more important and relevant in each stage in the 2D games and 3D Land than they were in the Galaxy games. In those, the power-ups were few and far between.
@thesilverbrick The 3D in the name is not for the 3D effect but for the fact that you have 360 degree 3-dimensional movement that sets it apart from the original Super Mario World. I believe the same applies for Super Mario 3D Land. The 3D has nothing to do with a steroscopic 3D effect.
Here's to hoping that if this is successful we get Super Mario 3D World 2: Yoshi's 3D Island!!!!
@LordessMeep The appeal is for parents... Younger children are not well suited for the hinge. They break easily when dropped and kids usually play with the various clicks by opening and closing it over and over. And at $170 - 200, its not that friendly to replace. The lack of the hinge makes it more sturdy for the rough-housing that children might put it through.
@Peach64 That's an unfair assumption to make. Whenever I am out and about with my 3DS for streetpass, I have my slider off too to save battery. Plus maintaining the sweetspot on the go is not usually worth it. However, whenever I play at home, the 3D is always at max.
So yes, while you are seeing your streetpass groups, they have the 3D off but that does not mean they always have it off.
@Tasuki I'm with you. I did not buy the 3DS for the 3D effect. It was SM3DL, OoT3D and KI:U that sold it to me (bought April 2012).
When I researched it prior to buying, I read a bunch of reviews that all stated that the 3D effect is not very good and that most people play with it off. I, however, absolutely fell in love with the 3D effect and have it cranked up all the time. I think the people who like it just are not as vocal about it. Going back to a non-3D handheld in the future would be a disappointment to me.
@rjejr The controls are oriented the same way as the original 3DS. The only difference is that they are closer to the top screen to account for the fact that the R/L buttons are at the top of the top screen instead of at the top of the bottom screen on the original. I agree though that the two-sized screens are far more obvious without the hinge separation. The black ones do look rather odd, but the red/white one in Europe does not look that bad at all.
I played a demo of Mario & Luigi: Dream Team at Fry's this past weekend on an original 3DS... I was shocked at how small the screen seems now that I am used to my 3DS XL. There is no way I could ever go back to that size again. Here's to hoping that Nintendo has an XL model available for their next handheld (or 3DS revision) from the getgo.
@Falco Call it what you will, but I love it. I don't care that Nintendo is releasing 2D-only options for their handhelds as long as they also have at least one model with 3D available (which will be the one that I buy).
@Linkstrikesback I suppose it ultimately depends on the sales numbers... but I do not think that's likely. The 2DS is meant to be an entry level model or a model for young children. It does not make sense to me at least of releaseing a premium entry level model...
@gloom I don't think its the name... I feel the issue is the logo. The U in the logo is very easy to overlook. We see it because we know its there, but for those who do not know the Wii U exists, its hard to notice. I think they should redesign their logo so the U is more prominent. Furthermore in the commercials with the "Only for Wii U" stamp, someone needs to actually say it aloud. And the emphasis should be wii U not WII u.
@Gressil I agree that other consoles do not have 3D features built in and that is fine. I am not saying every game in the world regardless of system has to have 3D or its rubbish. The reason this is upsetting is because the 3D feature is expected for 3DS games... at least big budget, full-price retail games. I think it is quite deceptive. Sure, those of us Nintendo/Pokemon fans that frequent these sites will now know not to expect it... but anyone who buys Pokemon off the shelf or off a commercial will not realize that a huge portion of the game does not work with the 3D effect until it is too late.
Unlike other games, trailers, commercials, etc. can never show the effect for 3DS games but it is always there when you play the game on the system. That's why demos are so useful for the 3DS. It lets me judge the 3D effect without having to buy the game first, which for some games does influence my purchase (i.e. DKCR 3D, I would not have bought without that glorious 3D effect). I find it highly unlikely that Pokemon will have a demo though.
Honestly, I would rather them delay the game than exclude it. This seems more like a timing problem than a hardware capability issue.
But like I said before, it is not affecting MY decision to buy it or enjoy it. I will nevertheless be upset with this exclusion.
@siconlolz That's because people are more vocal about things they do not like or are mad about. The reason people seem to think that "most" people do not like the 3D effect is that only the people who do not like it speak out... The ones who like it never really say anything so it seems like "most" people do not like it.... As you can see with the disappointment with this news, there are quite a few people who enjoy the 3D effect and play with the slider on. You are just now hearing from them because they finally have a reason to be vocal...
@Arcamenel Actually the handhelds usually only have one generation, the only exception is the DS...
Gameboy = Gen I (Red, Green (Japan), Blue, Yellow) Gameboy Color = Gen II (Silver, Gold, Crystal) Gameboy Advance = Gen III (Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen) Nintendo DS = Gen IV (Pearl, Diamond, Platinum, HeartGold, SoulSilver) Nintendo DS = Gen V (Black, White, Black 2, White 2)
@garywood I think it is just that the people who dislike the 3D effect are more vocal. I think that there are many more people who actually like and use the 3D effect (me being one of them) then most people make out to believe.
@Gressil I don't think there are any critically acclaimed 3DS game that is not in 3D... That being said, yes, the 3D is always optional, but not having the option for such a huge portion of such a big name game is what has people upset.
I'll still get it and love it... but will be disappointed nonetheless.
@onlyaman Yea... I guess this explains why there has not been any trailers on the 3DS yet like other games did (DKCR, Luigi's Mansion, and A Link Between Worlds)...
But Mario & Luigi: Dream Team is amazing. The 3D effect is truly done well. I had it on the entire game.
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team switched off 3D for the motion controlled attacks, but I do not like this where it is off for no such similar reason. I would have much rather preferred less "beauty" for full 3D. Heck I would not even mind the top down view from prior games if it enabled 3D. Look at the A Link Between Worlds trailer on the eShop...
@MaciejKuczynski I'll be pretty upset if they come out with Pokemon Z with full 3D... I ususally don't buy the 3rd installment... I would rather them wait for the feature for gen 7 in that case...
@mamp Would it really have changed that much if he was trying to save his baby brother? In that case, I point to Twilight Princess again where you save kidnapped children. The one that repeatedly gets kidnapped is, in fact, a boy.
Your comment about Shiek and Tetra is confusing. Are you trying to say that changing into a dress makes her weak and defenseless? The fact that Sheik or Tetra get abducted after being revealed as Zelda has nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman and everything to do with the fact that Gannondorf covets her power, the Triforce of Wisdom. In Ocarina of Time, it is not when she reveals herself as Zelda that she gets kidnapped, but when she reveals the Triforce of Wisdom. If Gannondorf had known that Link held the Triforce of Courage, I am sure he would just as easily have been kidnapped himself.
And lastly, my point in listing the characters (who I disagree as supporting) was to counter your argument that stated just because the playable character is male the entire game is sending out a message of sexism and misogyny. While I do not see a problem with Link being a female in a future game, I do not see the need for it to happen. In fact, I think that, indirectly though it may be, the Zelda series as is has some of the strongest female roles in all of gaming.
@mamp I would like to disagree about your points on Zelda. In Ocarina of Time, I would point to Sheik, who is actually Zelda in disguise doing a ton of the work for Link. Furthermore, 5 out of the 7 all powerful sages are women (Saria, Ruto, Impa, Nabooru, and Zelda) and it is they who actually defeat Gannon. Speaking of Nabooru, she is the leader of an all-female group of theives who in the game stands against custom and tries to take down Gannondorf as their prohphesized leader. Also, in Ocarina of Time, the world is created by three goddesses, not gods, Din, Nayru, Farore.
In Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, Zelda actually wields the Light Bow and actively participates in defeating the villain.
In Wind Waker, you meet Tetra who is a captain on a pirate ship. In fact, most of the game is about Link trying to save his baby sister, not the princess.
In Twilight Princess, one of the main characters is Midna who is accompanying you on your quest the entire time. She, in my opinion, is the epitomy of heroism because even after being defeated and deformed, she continues to fight against the evil that is plaguing her realm. At no point in the entire game was a princess (Zelda/Midna) kidnapped. You actually save children who were kidnapped in this game.
In Skyward Sword, Zelda is an avatar of the goddess Hylia. She is revered by all the creatures in the game. Furthermore, Impa plays a very strong role. It is she who guides and protects Zelda through her journey. It is also she who guards and protects Zelda for countless years while she slumbered.
In Ocarina of Time and in the Oracle games, Twinrova is one of the villains and is a set of female twins. In Oracle of Ages, the villain is Veran who is a female as well.
Finally, in just about every game where Link has a guide traveling with him telling him what to do, the guide is female. Navi, Midna, Zelda, and Fi, all play huge roles in their respective games.
I do not believe having the main playable character be male only promotes sexism or misogyny. I think it is for the whole package (dialogue, jokes, events, and other portrayals) that reviewers have raised the point about GTA V. Yours was not a fair comparison.
@Kit Chespin, Torchic, and Squirtle for me... though I still might change my mind based on the final evolutions... The magazine picture for Quilladin scared me but the in-game shots has me warmed up to him. Frogadier does look pretty awesome though... But I love Blastoise far more than Venusaur.... Ugh... choices...
Its interesting how they explicitly stated that Quilladin gets Mud Shot to counter Fire types and Frogadier gets Bounce to counter Grass types... but Braixen gets nothing similar for water types. Maybe it is a hint that Frogadier has really high special defense?
@rjejr I dont care that it is called a boutique... I just love the fact that I can customize the character. I think that original hairstyle for the guy looks horrible.
@MeWario It is partly based on it learning "Psycho Cut" and partly based on the original reveal trailer with Fennekin unleashing what looked a lot like a psychic type attack.
@Skeet102 Fennekin's evolution has a stick in its tail. Wands are essentially sticks. Wands are used as a way to channel energy. Fire/Psychic confirmed
Talismans (i.e. the spoons held by Kadabra and Alakazam) can be made of anything. Fennekin's evolution has a stick in its tail, sticks are used as talismans, talismans are used to channel psychic energy, Fire/Psychic confirmed
@Sneaker13 I think Chespin (which has armor based on a chestnut I think) is evolving towards an armor based mammal. So my guess for its final form is a more armored/fierce looking armadillo.
@PokeNerd That was my initial reaction to his comment too... but looking at it again I can kind of see what he is seeing... It looks kind of like a broom-accessory with that stick popping out.
@Romeo "if i try to trade/transer the Y evolution to X, if a message will pop up saying "you can't have Mewtwo Y on Pokemon X""
Where did you get that information? Are you all worked up over speculation/assumption? And as I stated before, it appears Mega Evolutions are tied to the stone the Pokemon is holding, which you CAN trade between games if the Pokemon holding it is traded.
@Romeo So far we know that Mega Evolutions are temporary 1-battle forms. We don't know how often it is possible or how permanent the stones are, Furthermore, unlike a regular evolution, the Mega Evolutions require the Pokemon to have the right Mega stone. In that case, if you are okay with trading, this should not bother you because you can always trade a Pokemon holding Mewtwonite X or Mewtwonite Y so that you can get your other Mega Mewtwo evolution in the opposite game. Therefore, I see no reason why you cannont have two Mewtwo's, with one holding the X stone and the other with the Y stone.
Squirtle it is! (Mega Blastoise looks awesome!). And I guess I will get Chespin since we are getting that free Torchic. This way I will have one of each, but I am kind of still waiting to see what the new trio evolve into first.
@feelthesarcasm That's a good point. And since this is being marketed at parents who know about the 3DS but without the 3D scare for their kids, I suppose the game issue is not as vaild.
Also, I guess if you are buying the console without any games to begin with... it's your own fault when you go back to the store and cannot find the "2DS games" later.
@gatorboi352 I doubt it. The 3D on the 3DS was always optional while the gamepad is mandatory. Furthermore, the main reason for the 2DS is for parents who are worried the 3D will ruin their children's (under 7) eyes (the health warning). No such similar thing on the Wii U gamepad.
@feelthesarcasm I disagree. 3D does not have to mean Stereoscopic 3D. The games are still rendered in 3d graphics in a similar vein to N64. Take Super Mario 3D Land. We all assumed it meant that the name was for stereoscopic 3D but it is actually meant to be Super Mario Land in a 3D environment. Which is why we now have Super Mario 3D World and its not in stereoscopic 3D and people are not head over heels confused.
A moniker like "Flat" at the end and large words on the box that state "Plays 3DS games in 2D mode ONLY" would have been sufficient.
@gatorboi352 I agree with you. Also, the same issue would apply to all those commercials that have "Only for Nintendo 3DS".... Are they going to change it to "Only for Nintendo 2DS and 3DS"?
I don't think the name makes sense. Naming it the 3DS Flat or 3DS lite or something along those lines would have worked better.

Re: CoroCoro Magazine Reveals Pokémon X & Y Starter Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and New 'Mon
@MeWario It is partly based on it learning "Psycho Cut" and partly based on the original reveal trailer with Fennekin unleashing what looked a lot like a psychic type attack.
Re: CoroCoro Magazine Reveals Pokémon X & Y Starter Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and New 'Mon
Re: CoroCoro Magazine Reveals Pokémon X & Y Starter Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and New 'Mon
@TobiasAmaranth Nidoran has distinct male and female versions.
Re: CoroCoro Magazine Reveals Pokémon X & Y Starter Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and New 'Mon
@Sneaker13 I think Chespin (which has armor based on a chestnut I think) is evolving towards an armor based mammal. So my guess for its final form is a more armored/fierce looking armadillo.
Re: CoroCoro Magazine Reveals Pokémon X & Y Starter Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and New 'Mon
@PokeNerd That was my initial reaction to his comment too... but looking at it again I can kind of see what he is seeing... It looks kind of like a broom-accessory with that stick popping out.
Re: CoroCoro Magazine Reveals Pokémon X & Y Starter Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and New 'Mon
@IKAY I think you are referring to Torimian? Which is a dog Pokemon and it is mentioned in the article that it is customizable.
Re: CoroCoro Magazine Reveals Pokémon X & Y Starter Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and New 'Mon
@Romeo
"if i try to trade/transer the Y evolution to X, if a message will pop up saying
"you can't have Mewtwo Y on Pokemon X""
Where did you get that information? Are you all worked up over speculation/assumption? And as I stated before, it appears Mega Evolutions are tied to the stone the Pokemon is holding, which you CAN trade between games if the Pokemon holding it is traded.
Re: CoroCoro Magazine Reveals Pokémon X & Y Starter Evolutions, Mega Mewtwo X and New 'Mon

Re: You'll Be Able To Choose Bulbasaur, Charmander Or Squirtle As Additional Starters In Pokémon X & Y
Squirtle it is! (Mega Blastoise looks awesome!). And I guess I will get Chespin since we are getting that free Torchic. This way I will have one of each, but I am kind of still waiting to see what the new trio evolve into first.
Re: You'll Be Able To Choose Bulbasaur, Charmander Or Squirtle As Additional Starters In Pokémon X & Y
@DestinyMan Don't forget the free Torchic if you plan on getting it close to launch.
Re: Bethesda: The Time For Convincing Publishers And Developers To Support Wii U Is "Long Past"
@Peach64 "so by default making games is going to be harder."... I think you meant to say "so by default making PORTS is going to be harder."
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Low-Key Approach to the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut Reveals Wasn't Surprising
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Low-Key Approach to the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut Reveals Wasn't Surprising
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Low-Key Approach to the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut Reveals Wasn't Surprising
Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Low-Key Approach to the 2DS and Wii U Price Cut Reveals Wasn't Surprising
