Re: New Kirby amiibo Will Apparently Be Nintendo's "Most Expensive amiibo Ever"

Well, Nintendo is vastly overestimating how much I'm willing to pay for a chunk of plastic.

I don't want to rain down on anyone's party, but aren't they a little overenthusiastic about Kirby Air Riders sales potential as a whole? I don't recall the original game getting glowing reviews and selling millions, nor is there a shortage of arcade racing games on Switch.

@Jeronan I think we are in agreement here. Slower, cheaper large capacity carts would probably have been a better choice than what we have today, especially with Switch 2 where technical limitations become more apparent.

It would not solve the issue of games ballooning up in size and having to buy expensive storage solutions, but at least the customer would actually own the game on an actual piece of hardware.

Re: Ubisoft Employee Explains Why Star Wars Outlaws Is A Game-Key Card

@Jeronan Sure, on average. And then you have silly ports such as Split Fiction that is 70GB in size, but I agree it's an outlier.

But as I said in a couple other replies, the issue for me is really that Game Key cards are the next nail in the game preservation coffin. The Switch was probably the last platform where physical media contained the entire game (with few exceptions), and I did not wish it to change.

The "Stop Killing Games" initiative that is pushing legislators to take a closer look might change that trajectory though.

@Oldstalk pushing the cost to the customer in the form of storage. Publishers cheaping out on the cart means the customer has to buy expensive MicroSD Express cards to install the games.

Some people argue that the SD card pays for itself in the form of cheaper GKC releases. Sure, but the preservation issue remains.

Re: Ubisoft Employee Explains Why Star Wars Outlaws Is A Game-Key Card

@Jeronan Played Cyberpunk 130 hours from the cart and did not notice any particular chugging that might be related to assets streaming.

So I appreciate Mr Bantin coming out and providing some insight on the performance considerations but - as he said himself - proper design can make open world games run just fine from the cart.

I'm afraid the performance angle will be used as yet another cop out from publishers willing to push the costs on the consumer.

It's too bad that Nintendo does not offer an "install the full game from the cart" option. I read arguments about the user experience being worse than just downloading the whole thing, but I'm not sure about that - it's just a one time thing and it cannot be that bad - and it does not address the game preservation issue.

Maybe Nintendo will offer that option down the line or offer smaller cart options which may encourage publishers to stop using GKCs for everything but I'm not holding my breath.

For now, I'll keep voting with my wallet and ignore GKC releases entirely.

Re: The Hundred Line's Script Is Long Enough To Print 60 Paperback Novels

Sebos

And that is supposed to be a good thing? So many JRPGs and visual novel have massive issues with pacing, wordiness and overall terrible editing. There's no way all of these 6 million characters contribute positively to the storytelling and characterization and much of the script is probably repetitive and redundant and just a waste of the player's time.

I know I'm just ranting here, but I'm sick and tired of otherwise cool games that make me sit through hours of characters repeating themselves or stating the obvious and seeing both their authors and press celebrating that as a major achievement of the game whereas it should be the complete opposite.

Re: Exclusive: Shin'en Talks 'Fast Fusion' On Switch 2, Reveals First-Look Trailer

I assumed GameShare would allow to play the game on Switch 1 but Manfred here states that "the other just needs a Switch 2 to join". Does that mean that sharing with a Switch 1 is out, even locally? I understand sharing online requires a Switch 2 on both sides as it requires GameChat which is exclusive to Switch 2, but I would be really bummed if local GameShare on Switch 1 is not possible as I was really looking forward to that feature.

Re: Uh Oh, It Looks Like Select Switch 2 Games Won't Support Cloud Saves

Sebos

Considering none of the main Pokemon games on Switch supported cloud saves and still sold a bazillion copies, I think it's a complete non-issue for most people.

It's still annoying to see Nintendo fumble communication like this.

As for the reasons, I suspected as much for BotW and TotK because of the Zelda Notes app. Nintendo probably want to prevent item duping shenanigans, even though they're single player games and people cheating has absolutely zero consequences. But what do I know?

Re: Talking Point: What Is A 'Traditional' Zelda Game, Anyway?

Sebos

@Joshie0234 Choosing between life and stamina is surely not a deal-breaker for me, but it's a shame that it's such a brainless decision. It's obvious from the get-go that the second stamina ring is a hard requirement for any kind of serious exploration so you got to get it first. Then the Master Sword has a hard requirement of hearts so you got to go for that. After that? Well, it doesn't really matter because at this point you're already pretty well equipped for any situation, the rest is gravy.

I kind of regret they streamlined character progression so much through the usage of Spirit Orbs. I miss the traditional heart container hunting of the previous games, which would incidentally give some real incentive to complete the otherwise pointless mini-games of BotW. Same with bosses. Getting the heart container from the Divine Creatures' bosses does not provide quite the same excitement and feeling of achievement as in the previous games.

Re: Review: The DioField Chronicle - A Solid Tactical RPG That Falls Short Of Its Ambitions

"Requires grinding to keep up with the difficulty curve"
Seems to be a constant across Octopath Traveller, Triangle Strategy and I suspect most RPGs published by Square Enix, and the main reason why I lose interest in them way before beating them.

Is that part of the old-school touch they are going for? JRPGs from other publishers (like Xenoblade Chronicles) seem to suffer from the exact opposite issue where doing too much side-questing makes the main quest so trivially easy it's hard to keep invested in the story.
