Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Sean_Aaron

I'm hoping we'll see a little more VC support for Wii U. Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn seems like a logical title to me.

Switch's fortunes will largely depend upon converting 3DS buyers I'm guessing. I can't see anyone bypassing another home console for it.

Re: Newzoo Estimates Less Than Five Percent of Users Have Paid For Super Mario Run

Sean_Aaron

It's a quality game with a lot of replay given the customisable castle town and Rally mode. I rather doubt it cost $30mil to make, so I can't regard it as a failure. Having an offline mode would have been a good idea, but I have a large data plan and usually play at home so I haven't found it a problem. I like the option of paying full-whack for an ad-free experience or lack of micro transactions. My partner's kid also didn't hesitate to drop some of his iTunes credit on it, so the idea it's "overpriced" is a bit silly - it's pretty cheap for a new Mario game!

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd December (Europe)

Hyperfractal looks pretty neat with all the DOS-like mini-games. Those discounts, wow! Gotta get some for my partner's kids and a couple I missed as well. Makes up for not having another Wii VC title this week. I keep hoping we'll see Excite Bots for Europe or a non-Japan release of Chibi-Robo...

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st December (Europe)

If the only thing we're getting on Wii U until Breath of the Wild is more Wii games that's cool by me. Here's hoping for Pikmin 2 and Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn.

Getting localised versions of Chibi Robo (only Japan for Wii) and Excite Bots (never released in Europe - just need to release the NA version, really!) would be amazing if true!

Re: Poll: What Do You Think of the Nintendo Switch?

Sean_Aaron

I already have an iPad and I don't game on the go seriously, so that aspect is a non-starter for me. I have Mario Kart 8 and will be getting the new Zelda for my Wii U, so software-wise, not convinced. Unless there's some massive incentive for Wii U owners I have zero reason to invest in this. I've got three consoles and a hefty backlog, thanks.

Re: Editorial: Losing It All - When a Wii U's External Hard Drive Dies

Sean_Aaron

It sucks, but that's why I have two laptop drives and a powered hub and try to do monthly backups to the secondary drive and keep a separate HTML table with games and dates to keep track. The backup drive sits in a fire safe, just in case! In fact I'm overdue for a backup.

I've thought about writing a storage FAQ for this as you can only connect a second drive after you choose the copy/move option but before you actually go into the choice which show attached devices. It could be made a lot more obvious like actually prompt you to connect the device or just flat-out support multiple storage devices simultaneously.

At least you can do this with the Wii U at all. My PS3 on the other hand has no backup option beyond the cloud which requires me to pay a monthly fee to Sony and trust them with the data. Can't say I'm a big fan of that idea.

Re: Review: Tetraminos (Wii U eShop)

Sean_Aaron

It's a shame Puyo Puyo V Tetris didn't make it over here. At the very least I'd have thought Tetris Party would get an HD facelift, but it's still playable. I can't say I'd be into buying Wii Shop points for it if I didn't already own it from my Wii days, however. Why the hell didn't Nintendo give WiiWare the eShop treatment like they did DSiWare?

Re: Niantic Pushes Out a New Pokémon GO Update

Sean_Aaron

@KittyKatta I can't see how this game is equivalent to other games where your level is a big factor. It's not like you're running around battling other trainers all the time. I only ever had one 10K egg myself, so they've always been rare to me. I only play to collect Pokemon, so I don't really care about other people's levels and given this is a mobile AR game I very much doubt I'm alone.

Re: Review: Vektor Wars (Wii U eShop)

Sean_Aaron

Yeah controls are important. If it's like Battlezone where the Y-axis doesn't matter then I'm okay with dual stick, but if I need to be looking up, I can always get it on Steam for Mac and use a mouse and keyboard.

Re: Review: R-Type (Wii U eShop / TG-16)

Sean_Aaron

I have the arcade ports on my PS3 and still I picked this up because it was only half-price due my having purchased it on the Wii. Never could make it past stage 4, but thanks to save states I might! One of my faves - the TG-16 had the best arcade ports hands-down - I even have the two-part version on my Japanese Wii!

Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools

Sean_Aaron

@Kit Yeah, I was wondering about the spirit of the game. I mean in the show they seems to be trying to solve the "mysteries of Pokemon," but if you can get a fish-finder to find them all, not much mystery is there?

@KittyKatta I'm busy too, that's why I just walk with phone in hand and stop when it buzzes rather than base any leisure time around it. One of the nice things about it, is that it actually doesn't demand a lot of your time and you can literally play it on the go.

Re: PokéVision Creator Writes Open Letter On Niantic Shutting Down Fan-Made Pokémon GO Tools

Sean_Aaron

I can't say I saw anything "moving" in that letter. I mean I figured there'd be a heartwarming story about how Pokemon helped his granny recover from a stroke or something after that description.

Anyway, Pokevision isn't Pokemon Go and they've gotten out an update much faster than I thought they would and it's been pretty stable much faster than I thought it would be. I've already got 50 in my Pokedex just roaming on my holiday, going to work and walking around town.

If you think it's hopelessly broken without using some external app then I'm afraid I have to disagree. As far as I'm concerned they just need to add a trade function and have the ability to do one-on-one battles to improve it. Better trackers hardly seems like a "must have."

Re: Editorial: The Rights and Wrongs of Shutting Down Pokemon GO Fan-Made Tools Like Pokévision

Sean_Aaron

Well I tend to just use it when I'm out and about and going somewhere. Having a Dragonite pop-up walking through the park was quite exciting; can't say I'd feel the same if it was just there on a map for me to see and get if I so desired. This isn't a game you complete exactly and making sure there's always something for players to find is going to be key to sustaining interest. Otherwise they'd just have all Pokemon available from day one and you'd find one every few paces!

Re: Review: Pokémon GO (Mobile)

Sean_Aaron

Today was my first trouble-free day (outside of train travel, which makes it impossible to do anything, but manage your Pokemon). It's good stuff. I dropped four quid for 550 coins to buy an incubator, not realising the ones in the shop are limited use. It seems like getting enough candy to evolve will take a lot of play, but then that's kind of the point. And getting my Goldeen, Goldy beat at a gym, feeling like I'd never get anywhere was immediately followed by a team battle at the same gym that I won (even at the cost of my three strongest fainting) - quite a turnaround!

The fact that this is is something adults and children can share as they explore their community shouldn't be underrated. The people involved should be proud of their achievement.
