This is great as is the amazing hypocracy in so many comments. This character element is far less offensive than stuff like the smooch of victory at the end of Double Dragon or reward sex in many recent games - THAT is being forced upon you; this is just an ending you can skip.
@MegaWatts that's been my finding as well though I've not played for a couple of months and really need to pick it up again. You get a team that knows to paint where painting is needed and not just go for the enemy side and you do well. You get with people that never look at the map or use their specials tactically and it turns out badly.
I have in the past had Amazon credit from gift cards and wished I could at least buy some eShop credit via a card from them, but that's not been the case that I've seen - unlike the old Wii points cards. In addition to that if I'm reading the instructions correctly it appears the content is also sent to your device, meaning if your Wii U is configured to do updates in standby, you could be out and about, buy a retail release and come home hours later to find it waiting to be played. That's worth it right there!
If this rolls out in the UK I would totally use it to get games remotely.
Runbow and Gunman Clive for me. Sin and Punishment is a possibility; a discount for people with the Wii eShop download of the sequel would make it a certainty.
That looks cool. There's some logo in the right hand corner that suggests it's part of a different series so maybe Nintendo is planning a series of amiibo for indie game characters? A Commander Video one would be awesome! I've actually skipped Shovel Knight, but all this focus is causing me to reconsider...
I got two for my partner's kids. Given how late it was I think either stock issues aren't what they were or people aren't jumping on them like they used to. The Nintendo UK store also seems to have stock on many that were impossible to find before (could have saved ten quid on Pac-Man had I been more patient), so I've ordered Captain Falcon and Bowser (Smash) as well, mainly for the Mario Kart Mii outfits (so sad).
Wii Music was fun, but failed to live up to its full potential - a potential I think could be realised on Wii U with its expanded storage and better networking. I collaborated with other NL members on creating pieces in Wii Music in spite of the limitations of the system and the app. I'd love to see a sequel and it would be nice if it was on Wii U, but you know, a Wii Music sequel on NX that delivered the goods might just sell that machine to me...
I wasn't the most impressed with Darksiders II, but it had some good points and I've been waiting for a sale before getting the download to replace my disc.
People bring up subtitling as an option a lot, but the reality is that again this is a niche of a niche. The amount of hate that Koei-Tecmo got for announcing a localised release of Samurai Warriors IV for PS3/4 on Facebook without a dub option is amazing to me. I'd have thought fans of the series would have happy just to get it localised, but apparently not. A weird game like Captain Rainbow wouldn't justify the cost to dub, but then would it justify the cost to sub either isn't a small question.
I'm still waiting to see a release of the first Mario Galaxy which has been out in Japan for some time, but I'm very happy to have this game as a download. How about the Pikmin and Zelda Wii games?
Well I'm getting Abe's Oddyssee because it's the only game in the series I ever played. If they bring Stranger's Wrath to Wii U I'll check it out; if not I'll spend my money on other things.
Still wanting this, so I hope it's still coming. I think Xenoblade X and Star Fox are it for me this year in Nintendo-Land, so there's definitely room for third party stuff.
I've played Skylanders and I guess it was okay as a game, but not interesting to me; I didn't get what Disney Infinity was actually all about myself, but it had this Skylanders vibe like: buy these toys and there's some kind of game you can play with them. I think what I like about amiibo is that there's a game you play first and second there's a nice figure than can unlock some content or add to it - the game doesn't exist solely as a promotion for the figure.
@Arthedain That only applies to games that support Classic Controller play, so with something like Super Mario Galaxy 2 your Gamepad acts like like a little TV with a built-in sensor bar (either side of the Gamepad camera are two IR sources, so it's clear they intended off-TV Wii gameplay from the start) and you'll still need a remote+nunchuk
@Arthedain Just fired it up and the first thing it asks is if you want to use the Gamepad, noting that you cannot change controller choice once started if you say "yes," then you're asked if you want to play on Gamepad only so I never bothered turning on the TV. And before anyone else asks, yes it picked up my save from the disc version as well. If you press home to go back to the Wii menu, it just takes you back to the Wii U login screen, so you're covered there too if you want to switch to another game on the Gamepad.
@Einherjar I'd hope Tatsunoko would be easier to deal with than Disney, but again, I don't think it would be worthwhile given the install base of the Wii U.
I wouldn't give up hope on Marvel, though I agree it would cost. Disney aren't too tough to deal with by all accounts, they just need to know there's going to be sufficient volume to make it worth their time. Capcom got the license to remake Ducktales; Zen would just have to demonstrate their software has a decent volume of sales and I can't imagine they'd have a problem with that. The cost is another factor, but I won't pretend to know what Disney wants to use their IP.
@Einherjar you might be correct if they've let the licensing agreement lapse then it's unlikely they'd renew it just for some modest cash for the download version. In a perfect world it would happen though. I believe the Gamepad is supported in games that are Classic Controller compatible, so Xenoblade should definitely support it.
Yes! Getting the original today; if there's Gamepad support that would be extra super cool.
I'm still hoping third parties will jump on the bandwagon with downloads as both Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Samurai Warriors 3 would have that Gamepad support too.
That sounds pretty good (especially if patched) and given Tetris vs Columns has yet to make an appearance I'd certainly give it a go if it appears in Europe.
I remember seeing BeatBuddy in an indie reel or something here and it does look intriguing - reminds me of the musical parts of Rayman Legends, which is a good thing. Hallways sounds intriguing as well, so bring on the reviews!
Hudson Soft was obviously mainly associated with the PC Engine, but they also had games on NES, so it seems like that IP catalogue would be at home with Nintendo. I'd love to see the PC Engine return to the Virtual Console in full force as well and I'm not getting the sense that's going to happen with Konami as it currently stands.
Muramasa got next to no retail presence in the UK - GAME wouldn't stock it for whatever reason and Rising Star probably didn't make what they were hoping for as publishers. I'd really like to see that come overseas in the eShop, but then we're still waiting for Super Mario Galaxy too!
I think AR being incorporated isn't impossible. DS family and Wii U have played with these ideas. I can't see that being the horse that drives the cart though.
@electrolite77 Again my point is that what the others offer isn't that obvious and is a minority of what's there. I've said this before, I could probably find something to play on a Playstation or an Xbox, but there's nothing there that makes me want to own either platform just for that purpose and a casual glance at the catalogue doesn't inspire me. They're just not appealing systems and I'm definitely not the target market for either one of them.
@Operative I never said anything about developers, but I think I can say with certainty that your reading comprehension is inferior. Try again, if you must.
@Operative I don't have a 3DS and I don't care about 3DS or any Nintendo handheld, so I don't see it as a new Zelda game every year. I had a Wii and there were two Zelda games (I'm not counting that peripheral-selling shooting game) on it. I have a Wii U and there have been zero new ones. Not a great example, but do keep on assuming you know what I like and enjoy as if we know each other. Always a good foundation for any Internet discussion with faceless strangers.
@arnoldlayne83 If you're a fan of those franchises then great; I'm not so having console line-ups dominated by them turns me off of those systems. Pretty straightforward and not a judgment against anyone who disagrees, though I know in modern gamer "culture" having an opinion that's outside the norm seems to imply judgment against anyone else even if you don't say anything like that.
And yes, there's too many platformers on the Wii U for my taste as well which is why I only get those that appeal to me: I didn't buy the new Kirby game and I avoid the majority of indies as they all seem to be puzzle or action platformers of one kind or another. I'm still on the fence about Super Mario Maker; only my daughter showing real interest is likely to get a buy from me as I already have mix of current and VC platform games and that's enough for me.
@HollywoodHogan @electrolite77 The reason is pretty obvious. Nintendo doesn't do market oversaturation, you'll get maybe one entry in a series per system; possibly two, whereas you can guarantee multiple franchise entries from publishers on other consoles as quickly as they can churn them out. How many Call of Duty, Battlefield, Halo, Gears of War, Need for Speed games are out on PS360 right now?. If Nintendo was putting out a new Zelda or Super Mario Galaxy game every year I wouldn't be buying them - heck I skipped Super Mario Galaxy 2 on the Wii (it's on my Wii U hard drive now, though).
And yes, I'm fully aware of the gems from the PS2/GameCube era, but I've moved on since then and I don't feel the poorer for missing those. Another era of 3D gaming with a dual-stick joypad didn't have any draw for me and I had other priorities, what can I say?
I also know there's more to the PS/360 than the three genres I named, but those are far and away the dominant ones and they are the most-promoted and biggest draws on the systems, you cannot deny that. If those kinds of games disappeared from those machines tomorrow I guarantee sales would crash through the floor.
I'm in agreement. I think that Nintendo system owners do put Nintendo games first, but let's face it third parties did themselves little favour and their seemed to be no real commitment to the system unless it sold massively. That might make business sense on some level, but doing things like delaying Rayman Legends cost at least my sale and I'm sure there were others like me, prepared to buy at the original date who had moved on given the more crowded first party schedule by the time of the multi-platform title launch: can't blame anyone but Ubisoft for that.
In the end it doesn't matter much to me. I was in a shop looking at the PSBONE displays and nothing was attracting my eye at all: I saw a few racing games, sports titles and third or first-person action/shooters - basically the same stuff as was available on the PS/360. There is just nothing to attract me to those other consoles, so if Nintendo did drop out of making machines I guess I'd just drop out of gaming consoles again like I did during the PS2/Xbox era. As long as the big "AAA" publishers keep relying upon endless franchise entries and similarly-themed games I'm not buying their stuff; as long as Nintendo keeps putting out interesting quality titles I'll keep buying their stuff. Pretty simple!
People hate Adam Sandler because his humour tends to be soulless, lowbrow, nasty "jokes" based around mocking people, because he puts his friends in his movies and because his movies cost far more to make than lower-budget quality films mainly to give himself and his friends a bigger paycheque than they deserve.
There's a great video from Red Letter Media about him and his production company that lays it all out. He was fun in the Wedding Singer and he had a good bit in Shakes the Clown, but he didn't write or produce either of those...
I never understood the point of it either. Anyone who's interested in some kind of catch-up or on-demand service already had one by the time that launched and could get an app for it on the Wii U. Getting the licensing and development sorted was just an unnecessary expense for Nintendo and given the Wii U had no other media functionality like playing films on disc, it just didn't make a lot of sense.
Adam Sandler is cinematic kryptonite, that pretty much put a giant question mark on this film for me. I can see it without being out of pocket because of my Cineworld Unlimited card, but I'm still doubtful this is worth my time.
Wreck It Ralph had an actual story and heart; I'm not getting the sense this has either...
AMD had a pretty crap financial result recently, but they're Intel-compatible so I guess it doesn't matter much if they're a losing company to hitch your console to. I'm hoping they'll achieve backwards-compatibility via emulation or including the old chipset (I think Sony did that with PS2?) on the board, but it doesn't matter what they're doing until they start announcing some details and given the Wii U's improved performance this year I can't see why they'd want to do that, fanboy demands notwithstanding.
