Did you like the Super Mario Game & Watch? Well you're in luck, because Nintendo is bringing out another Game & Watch title which contains Zelda games. And guess what? It looks a lot like the unit that was mocked-up a while back!
The Zelda Game & Watch features The Legend of Zelda, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening and a special version of the Game & Watch title Vermin, which features Link as the playable character. There's also a special clock mode.
The Zelda Game & Watch launches on November 12th, just in time for Christmas.

I'm so glad that I can play two of the best Zelda games and Zelda II on a Game & Watch!
It's funny how Nintendo left out the actual Game & Watch Zelda game like what they did the Mario one. Regardless, this is brilliant and it looks set to surpass the last one and then some.
I hope there is ample stock for everyone to preorder. It will be a pure collector's piece for me, but I still want it.
Hopefully, this will be as easy to get as the Mario one.
I love the Mario one just as a clock, but if I can also play Link's Awakening then wow.
I did not expect Link’s Awakening in this at all. I’m seriously thinking about getting this one now.
As much as I like Zelda this is pretty meh. Especially after the Mario stuff last year.
Only question : why Vermin, and not the actual game & watch Zelda game! 😂
Sadly it's not the DX version of Link's Awekening, but yeah.. I MUST HAVE THIS!
Kinda sad Zelda isn't getting anything else for its 35th anniversary.
Understandable, but sad.
Does anyone remember how fast the last one went up for pre-order??
I would hate playing on that tiny screen but that's pretty cool for collectors.
@garfreek Good point XD
And I'm getting this one, looks like an amazing fun thing to have!
Wow, fandom conspirologists, you saw right through Nintendo here. There WAS new hardware announced! And alongside it, even an exclusive that will not run on the existing Switch models!😃
VERMIN?! Nintendo, did you forget there was already a Zelda game & Watch game perfect for this?!
Would have been an instant buy with Link to the Past, but I’m on the fence with this one. The Mario G&W underwhelmed in the absence of SMB3, got the same feeling about this one.
I could see my kid wanting this. Will see if the scalpers leave some. Has Nintendo said "limited" yet?
@Kreko probably it's all here...no good Zelda collection for Switch...
Meh, what a poor anniversary showing gor zelda
That's a neat piece of tech to collect for Zelda fans for sure. However I'm still bothered by that dude's quote from the Direct in regards to the 35th Anniversary:
"...while we don't have any campaigns or other Nintendo Switch games planned..."
I sure hope that was meant to throw off everyone before a actual real celebration of goodies is announced.
This is actually pretty sweet. Slightly surprised Link's Awakening doesn't offer the DX version as an option though.
Goddamnit.. sold!
I'm half tempted because I'm weak. I'm not gonna battle scalpers for it though, I'll just have to hope it's available locally
Ahh another tiny bit of hardware with a few ROMs on thank you so much Nintendo
ngl kind of salty that this is all we are getting for Zelda 35th. Aonuma confirmed no Zelda Allstars or any other switch games for the 35th this year.
This confirms no Zelda Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD for Switch.
A disappointment, where is windwaker hd and twilight princess hd? Just skyward sword?
Nintendo learned that they can’t sell a new handheld with only a single NES game. It was so cheap of them to withhold SMB 2, USA and 3 from the first game and watch. Oh well, they know now..
This was a genuine kick in the stomach for anyone hoping to see a proper Zelda 35th Anniversary collection. And the coup de grace was BotW 2 being announced for next year. Right now Nintendo has no true tentpole game launching in the Christmas 2021 release window. So either they held something BIG for a future Direct, or this is going to be a bad year overall. In any case, the Direct stank.
Underwhelming when comparing to how they celebrated the Mario Anniversary.. happy we got to see a bit more of the Zelda sequel. But.. I really wish they mistranslated Aonuma regarding “ while we don't have any campaigns or other Nintendo Switch games planned”
And I will secretly hope that something will be announced during fall.
Hope it's priced the same as the Mario one. That one was rather cheap when it comes to Mexican prices.
@Ryu_Niiyama Today is June 15th and I still see some Mario G&W in stores despite being discontinued. My guess is this will be mostly available as well. Though this one may suffer the scalping because, you know, it's Zelda.
Oh, I'm getting one of these!
I'd love a Metroid one
Link's Awakening is on it! A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one!
Okay, I am DEFINITELY getting this. Two of my favorite Zelda games, a fun Game & Watch timewaster, and a certain sequel for masochistic moments? Sign me up!
When they said 3 Zelda Games I was SURE it was Zelda 1, 2, and GW. Then they zagged when I thought they would zig and gave us LA GB!!!! So cool.
Still, Vermin > Zelda GW? They must really be embarassed by that title…
For everyone mentioning that Zelda G&W would be "perfect" on here, we realize that that game used two screens like a DS, right?
I want this where is the give money now
Well, here's one of the first Zelda anniversary things I don't need but will definitely buy! I'm sure they'll talk about more anniversary things after Skyward Sword is out. Possibly have an anniversary specific Zelda direct like they did for Mario.
@tzahn I think they will, yes.
Highlight of the show. Can’t resist a Game & Watch!
I passed on the mario game and watch one but this I will be getting.
It’s a maybe. It would be nice if they added the stand
@Toy_Link
Yep. Some hardware barrier there. Having said that, the inclusion of a Zelda version of Vermin is kind of baffling. Why precisely that G&W title?
Can't play Breath of the Wild on it though can you?
It’ll probably end up for £30 on Amazon after a few weeks just like the Mario one. I would’ve preferred a port of Wind Waker instead of this.
@Ganner extremely disappointed they couldn't just do the exact same thing as Mario 3d all stats just a straight port using an emulator
110% going to grab this.
@tzahn "...while we don't have any campaigns or other Nintendo Switch games planned..." unfortunately i think this is it
@Stubborn_Monkey Past Game & Watch collections on DS from Club Nintendo had games like Ball reimagined with Mario, and Balloon Fight was remade for DS with Tinkle instead of the Balloon Fighter, so this isn't particularly a new concept to do. Not sure why they chose Vermin though. I can only imagine that they skipped on Zelda G&W because it sucks major *** and they want to pretend it doesn't exist. Like they do with Zelda Nelsonic Game Watch, and the 3 CD-i Zelda games –– and apparently like they do with Four Swords+ and ALttP GBA remake.
@Toy_Link There's another point against it that I hadn't thought of. Thanks.
They could have ported Nelsonic's Game Watch title to it if they have the rights to that and had the inclination, but that game's even worse than the Game & Watch one…
@Zidentia yeah the Mario version is almost perfect just missing the stand
is this the new nintendo console everyone has been saying is due be announced
nice for the fans
I believe if you continue the quote it ends with "...this year." The collection could still be before March 31, 2022 and fit their anniversary "year" like they did with Mario.
@garfreek Because multi-screen (and something else presumably, since they did the same with the super mario one).
No thank you! The Mario one was a overpriced novelty, this one is no different.
@marandahir
Personally, I'd love a compilation of G&W titles like the Game and Watch Gallery series. They're an important part of Nintendo's history.
This comes out on my birthday!
Zelda 1 and 2 are in NSO. I would buy in a heartbeat if it includes Oracles
I love Game and Watch and whilst this is sweet it feels a bit like a token offering from Nintendo. Even the way they showed it - we won’t be doing anything else for Zelda at 35 but there is this. It felt like an apology.
Yes, yes, yes, yes!!!!!!!!
Man I love Adventure of Link and Link's Awakening, so this tempting.
Definitely getting this! Can’t wait to try the original Link’s Awakening!
I still see the Mario one around, they didn't seem to sell that fast.
Maybe the Link unit will go faster or maybe they'll make few units.
Just curious about the disappointment of this anniversary for Zelda or any franchise. Is it really that big of a deal that Nintendo didn't make a big hoopla out of Zelda's 35th anniversary? What are the rules to anniversary celebrations. Is it every 5 years? 10 years? 25 years?
Regardless, a new game is in the works and the 40th anniversary is coming soon.
If you compare it to the actual Zelda Game and Watch, it looks nothing like it, and the game included isn't the ACTUAL Zelda Game and Watch. About as disappointing as the previous one, tbh, despite technically being a better value. :/
I really don't understand the criticism or disappointment. It has three classic Zelda games and a clock. Who cares about the throw-in game? The minute you saw this thing you knew Windwaker wasn't going to be on it, so what was expected? I'd really hate working for Nintendo. You're entirely graded on what you DON'T provide.
@AvianBlue I agree. It seems silly to expect big balloons every five years for every franchise.
I wonder if it will have the same issue the Mario one has - the screen turns off too quick to be used a clock really. -=0
Just snagged one…I’m not sure if they’ll be common or not, but just in case
Meanwhile the Mario one dropped to only 20 bucks.
If it's the same price as the Mario one, I think it's a better offering overall. The original Zelda, along with Zelda 2(which I like), and Link's Awakening is better in my opinion than what the Mario G&W had. I suspect they wanted to hold of in case they wanted to do individual G&Ws for SMB 2/USA, and SMB3. These are still more novelty collectibles, but at least the Zelda one seems to offer more.
Loving this!!! Can't wait to get it on the shelf next to the SMB G&W!
@Aslanmagic Where did you find it?
@Burning_Spear Best Buy is taking preorders
I hope this one has some cool secrets like the Mario one did.
@Aslanmagic Just snagged it. Thank you!
@Burning_Spear you’re welcome! I’m excited for it!
I won't buy this I think but I still acknowledge this as sweet. Give meh a proper Zelda 35 anniversary collection please
@Leuke There's still some in most stores...
Has Christmas been moved this year? November 12th is 43 days before Xmas. This will probably be removed from sale on 13th November though so the warning is justified I guess. Seriously though, we have no expiry date on this yet so assume it is just a limited run and when it is gone it is gone.
Why Link's Awakening?
Why not A Link to the Past?
Nice of them to actually acknowledge the 35th. It's cute, but just a neat curio to me.
@Johnion True but I still want to pre-order... it may not matter but it'll make me feel better XD
Best Buy has them up now!! I just got my pre-order in.
They'll probably go quick. All the Skyward Sword stuff sold out before I could get my wallet into the CD drive...
@Spider-Kev Propably because the internal hardware was not considered adequate enough to emulate SNES rom to Nintendo's standards. Same way the normal 3DS did not get SNES roms but the NEW 3DS did.
@rjejr Why bother? You got a clock in your house, don'tcha? You got The Legend of Zelda & Zelda II: The Adventure of Link on your Switch, don'tcha? And you got Link's Awakening REMAKE, don'tcha? Then you don't need this! I put this on my Christmas list, though.
Only 8-Bit Zelda games, they didn't even include the two Oracle games. C'mon Nintendo that would had sell this handheld by the truck load. Also where's the Zelda G&W? I thought that was going to be on there.
4-in-1's not bad. I'll pass on it though.
Great for collectors. Not for me though. Would have loved Oracle of Seasons in the style of Link's Awakening. Too bad.
@acNewUpdates The year is young.
@nhSnork Lol!
Just Like Mario, I can remove the Zelda Games on My 3DS for Room for other Games....
Honestly, aside from the predictability of the Game & Watch: The Legend of Zelda item, I think Sonic the Hedgehog merchandise this year has a greater chance of staying in stock after being available to the public than ANYTHING Nintendo! How can that blue pest say he's popular if his merchandise doesn't run out?! I HATE THAT HEDGEHOG!!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oZKVbqotCbY
"You can't say that yet, I haven't even sung my first verse!"
@Spider-Kev
Perhaps because this thing doesn't have L/R and X/Y buttons.
SOLD! I just hope I can find one...
@YoshiAngemon I don't have LoZ 1 and 2 on Switch but I think we probably have them on either NES mini or Wii U. And on NO I think. Santa always has to bring something though, "don't need it" is not an out.
I grabbed the Mario one for full retail price but now you can get it for nearly half the price. I’ll get this but not day 1
@tzahn
No I think they are done. They already announced everything for Zelda 35th anniversary.
We need 2 screens for Zelda Game & Watch! Did everyone forget?
@NinChocolate SMB 2 (Lost Levels) is on the Mario G&W. It'll even save your place in both as you switch back and forth.
They should have included Zelda A Link to the Past in this.
Worth it just for Link's Awakening! LoZ 1 and 2 are nice bonuses for me.
Already pre-ordered at Best Buy. Can't wait!
@Nontendo_4DS
Same here. The original black and white version came out when I was 10, and was a big part of my gaming childhood - also became my favorite Zelda. I had always hoped that that original version would become available on the 3DS VC. So hearing that it would be on this Game & Watch singlehandedly made me put my pre-order in.
That being said, I am very concerned about how ridiculously low the buttons are on these things - and the A and B buttons are even lower on this than on the Mario one from last year, presumably to make room for the Start and Select buttons. It just really doesn't look comfortable to hold and play. So I may end up just canceling the pre-order at some point...
@Ryu_Niiyama If they produce as many as they did the Super Mario Bros one it won't be a problem. My local Walmart still has stacks of them for sale.
@Tasuki I got my preorder in today.
@Nontendo_4DS
I fully agree with you about the Wii U gamepad - so incredibly comfortable. As for this this thing, I'm not interested in it as a collectible - only for playing Link's Awakening. So if it seems clear that it just won't be comfortable (which definitely seems to be the case at this point), I'll have to pass.
@Strumpan I forgot that it was multiscreen!!
