Earlier this month, there was a rumour Nintendo had previously approached Disney about adding the Kingdom Hearts protagonist Sora to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and was rejected by the American company's Japanese branch.
Even if Disney isn't necessarily keen on the character's inclusion in Nintendo's all-star brawler, it hasn't stopped fans located in Japan from nominating Sora as their "most wanted" DLC character for the latest entry in the series. In a poll run by Inside-Games recently, the Kingdom Hearts hero was well out in front with 290 votes. The runner-up was Dante from the Devil May Cry series and the hunter from the Monster Hunter series was in third place.
While it is just a small sample, it's still interesting to see what other characters players are interested to see added to the game – even if it includes Geno and some anime heroes.
Sora (Kingdom Hearts) – 290 votes
Dante (Devil May Cry) – 91 votes
Hunter (Monster Hunter) – 80 votes
Rex (Xenoblade Chronicles 2) – 74 votes
2B (Nior Automata) – 70 votes
Crash Bandicoot (Crash) – 65 votes
Waddle Dee / Bandana Waddle Dee (Kirby) – 64 votes
Sephiroth (Final Fantasy VII) – 59 votes
Arle (Puyo Puyo series) – 56 votes
Steve (Minecraft) – 55 votes
Saber (Fate series) – 53 votes
Kirito (Sword Art Online) – 50 votes
Hakurei Reimu (Touhou Project) – 42 votes
Goku (Dragon Ball) – 32 votes
Geno (Super Mario RPG) – 26 votes
Last month, we even ran our own poll to see who should receive the next invitation. Interestingly Rayman, Waluigi, and Sora received the most votes.
Would you like to see Sora added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? Anyone else? Tell us what you think in the comments below.

Interesting how the top five characters are all "anime sword users." Something that "nobody" wants. And by "nobody" I mean the Westerners. It's almost as if "anime sword users" are popular in Japan and a Japanese game celebrating Japanese companies would want to appeal to Japan.
Crazy, right?
(Though Kirito is such a terrible suggestion that I'd rather have Goku and he has no chance either...)
They seriously added Goku to the poll? How many times do we have to keep talking about this?
And now I just realized they added SAO to the poll. Do people just not care anymore?
2B would be so cool
I would prefer more non-human characters, hence why I don't understand why so many want Doom Guy in Smash (we already have a space marine in the form of Samus). I've been a fan of DOOM for 25 years and I would overwhelmingly prefer one of the demons on the roster instead. The Baron of Hell is unlikely to cut the mustard due to America's aversion to the "h word", the revenant's bloody pelvis is perhaps a little too graphic for a family game (though its seeking missiles would be awesome to have in a Smash fighter), but I would love to see the Spider Mastermind on the roster, who would really stand out from the pack, and I suppose they could give it spider-like moves such as walking up walls and latching on to and temporarily draining the health from and immobilising other fighters.
@JR150
Nintendo has been an international looking company since at least the 1980s.
@Franklin Yeah but lots of western fans forget that
@Silly_G The Cacodemon is probably the most notorious one of the bunch and the only one that'd have a chance
@Franklin
Yeah but Super Smash Bros as a game is about Japanese companies. Nintendo, Sega/Atlus, Namco, Square Enix, Konami, SNK, Platinum Games, Capcom. Every third-party character is from a Japanese developer with the sole exception being Banjo-Kazooie from MS/Rare.
With that in mind, it's clear the primary audience is Japan while the West is secondary. There's nothing wrong with that. It's how they choose to operate as a business, but people need to calm down and realize that those of us in the West are not the primary audience for characters. Hence why we haven't seen many Western franchises represented until very recently with Cuphead and Warframe Spirits.
@cool_boy_mew : The problem with the Cacodemon, while it is perhaps the most iconic of all DOOM enemies, its move-set would be very limited. In the games, it floats around firing projectiles, and rarely, bites others.
I think if Nintendo could get Sora in, they would do it. He always comes near the top of character polls. A lot of people clearly want him in.
Judging from this I'd say Crash Bandicoot is almost a lock for season 2. He looks like he's popular internationally. It's weird how unpopular Rayman is in Japan.
I'd love Dante to be included, Bayonetta vs Dante would make for an epic reveal trailer.
Genuinely surprised how often people want a Hunter from Monster Hunter rather than a Palico in Smash bros. I love that series and if I were to choose a rep I would prefer it to be a Palico for multiple reasons.
One: We have enough "serious" fighters in the game; let's not forget that Smash Bros started as a goofy fighter for cartoonish Nintendo mascots, having a silly cartoon cat would be much more interesting and unique than a nameless sword-man/woman.
Two: Palicos are the face of the MH franchise. Let them be the face in Smash.
Three: Playable Palicos are a unique feature to Generations which is a game only available on Nintendo consoles, let that unique feature carry over to Smash.
@Chowdaire
I agree that the hunter would be a bit meh due to the lack of character. However the move set would likely be more fun than a Palico. The hunter was fun to play as in Marvel Infinite.
Yet we still can't get a single main series kingdom hearts game on a nintendo home console. It's freaking Disney for crying out loud! Nintendo is alot like the Disney of the gaming world so why the hell not? Isn't it about time?
@Chowdaire
True but serious characters clash with the inherent silliness of Smash itself. Hitting each other with baseball bats, bullet bills, and DK hammers, eating fiery curry, flying into the stratosphere. The game was made with silliness in mind and the serious characters compliment it quite nicely I'd say.
Interesting results. I'd love to see Crash, Arle and Geno for Fighters pack 2 because I think they could have an interesting move set. I'd be happy for the people wanting Dante or Sora, although I think they would play a bit too similar to Bayonetta and the other sword fighters we already have
@Silly_G
I'm not sure why so many people want Doom Guy in. If I were to pick a Bethesda rep, it would be vault boy.
I just want more videogame legacy characters from Square Enix in Smash. As you can guess I never liked Kingdom Hearts. Now that Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest are in Smash, next ones should be Chrono Trigger, Mana series, Quintet trilogy, and TAITO (Bubble Bobble) representation, actual big Nintendo classics, before we move on to the crossover newage Disney Playstation kids stuff. I'd even put Lara Croft before Sora, but she's a Brawlhalla fighter now. And if all of the aforementioned ones are released, I would still rather have Geno and other SE characters instead of Sora. Square Enix has too many great original games on their hands, and Kingdom Hearts is only so popular because of the Disney characters. Sora is just an empty shell without Disney IP support.
And Dante seems like a worse version of Bayonetta. Sakurai should rather add Capcom icons like Monster Hunter and Phoenix Wright (a shame Resident Evil is deconfirmed). I really wasn't impressed by Byleth's reveal, but I was happy it wasn't Dante.
@JR150
The original and Melee sold more in the US than in Japan. Couldn't find figures for Brawl or 4, but for Ultimate Japan is a little ahead.
Would seem to make sense to listen to western consumers to me.
@Franklin
Uh, of course they have? Ridley and King K. Rool were primarily Western requests ever since Brawl but the former was deemed "too big." Dark Samus was in a game developed by the American Retro Studios and everyone over here lost their minds when she was confirmed. Banjo-Kazooie has been a half-joke/request for years as well.
Not to mention the rabid American fans of Persona 5 and Castlevania. Joker and Simon weren't exactly requested but you know everyone loved their inclusions.
Nintendo does not outright ignore Western fans. But the Japanese fans come first. Again, it's their homeland so it makes sense. Hero comes with four versions and Terry isn't just Fatal Fury but all of SNK's flagship franchises. It makes sense that they would get more love because Japanese people love their stuff.
But like I said above, they do listen to the West when it counts. We're just in second on the priority totem pole. And given how successful this game is, I don't mind at all. I wouldn't expect a Swedish company to try and appeal to Uganda first instead of their home country, after all.
I try not to be THAT GUY hating on games other people like, but the "what fighters should be in Smash" debate is getting really old.
@Wargoose : I would prefer Commander Keen, but the franchise has been dormant since 2001 (excluding the abominable mobile reboot shown at E3), so I can't say I'm optimistic, though Commander Keen has appeared on Switch via Keen Dreams and as an Easter egg in DOOM II.
@JR150
"I wouldn't expect a Swedish company to try and appeal to Uganda first instead of their home country, after all."
That wouldn't be that strange at all, if Uganda were the bigger market. Plenty of big companies operate like that.
@Franklin
True but still. Nintendo doesn't ignore the West. They just listen to Japan first. XD
Personally, I would like to have Megaman X as the next Capcom's DLC fighter for Fighter Pass 2. Of course, I can live without it since I already have 4 of my favorite characters in Smash Ultimate.
Sora is SO obvious. He MUST enter the roster at some point.
@Franklin : Known as the "Big in Japan" phenomenon.
God I hate Kingdom Hearts. The clash of quality between Disney character art and generic, tacky anime characters is just too vast and embarrassing to ignore.
Not to mention the laughable ‘storytelling’ and dialogue.
Sora is more suited to Playstation All Stars than Smash. Not least because Kingdom Hearts hasn’t graced the Switch yet. In fact, isnt Dream Drop Distance (holy crap what a TERRIBLE name! Lol!) the only entry in the series on a Nintendo console?
Sora is a terrible choice; I despise Kingdom Hearts and its fanbase. I hope he never gets in.
Dante would be a treat though. More villains, monsters and antiheroes please.
If Sora ever gets added, I might sell my copy of the game.
@DreamerDC Well they must have made a heck of an impression.
Please no more rpg characters. They were 3/5 of the 1st pass, it was enough.
Dante Vs Bayonetta would be glorious!
@ReaperExTenebris

If you want a female Xenoblade character then look no further than Lora from Xenoblade 2: Torna the Golden Country!
What makes her interesting is that she fights primarily using her bare hands and legs with martial arts style combat and takes out a whip every so often. She'd be a great character to impliment since her blades Jin and Haze could give her buffs from the sidelines too!
wow that list is insane
@HappyMaskedGuy Funnily enough, the second game in the series (Chain of Memories) was on Game Boy Advance. So while the roots are on Sony platforms, it has always had a steady foothold on Nintendo as well.
It's fine if you don't enjoy KH, but there's nothing embarrassing in the series. In fact, gameplaywise many of them are fantastic and I recommend trying them if you haven't already.
Edit: Although I admit, the best games on the series are on Playstation platforms (and these days also on Xbox through the HD Remixes).
Note how far down Geno is (thankfully), and also note that Waluigi didn’t even make the list.
@JR150
@Maschinenmensch very mature of you
@SKTTR
Also a good choice but since Elma is a spirit it's not likely. However the main character of X can be male or female. So let's not rule anything out.
@JR150 Yeah, Cross - the main character from Xenoblade Chronicles X, would still be eligible as he/she has no spirit, AT, or costume - unlike Rex & Pyra (or Elma unfortunately) - and it would be amazing!!!
I'm biased though, because I love Xeno X so much. It's my favourite RPG of the decade (2010-2019).
In all honesty, they are all uninspired character picks that we've all seen on these lists a million times. I have no doubt in Sakurai and the Smash team's ability to make exciting fighters. Any characters here getting anywhere close to good Smash moveset would be too close to existing fighters'.
I don't actually expect my choices to make it, but they'd be way more interesting: Arthas (Warcraft), Worm (Worms), Ellen (Folklore), Sgt. Cortez (Timesplitters), Double (Skullgirls) ,Yoshimitsu (Tekken/Soul Calibur)
@SKTTR
Yeah! Though, what does AT stand for?
@Snorkazoid
Great picks! Though I think Filia or Peacock would represent Skullgirls as they're more recognizable and iconic than nun blob.
Man... I hope Crash Bandicoot will get in. Even the Japanese folks seemed to want him.
I know Puyo Puyo is popular in Japan but those 56 people are cool for picking Arle.
Oh joy, another RPG-character with a sword, so original, you'd think that at some point people would want something added that they don't already have a bunch of in the game...
@ReaperExTenebris To be fair, Arle is a magic user in universe so they could make a moveset based around that. It wouldn't be the most out of nowhere moveset compared to some other characters in Smash.
@HappyMaskedGuy
No, we actually had 3 other games besides Dream Drop Distance. The first one was KH: Chain of Memories, the second one was KH 358/2 Days, which btw. is the dumbest title in the series, and then we also had KH: Re-coded, a remake of a mobile game for the DS.
Honestly I’d rather crash bandicoot or papyrus or sumin like that.We have too many sword users already
Tough! They've already been decided...they're all from Fire Emblem
While Sora would be nice to have, there are obviously licensing issues with Disney to consider. He would also be yet another swordsman in the mix in a field already crowded with them.
My personal most wanted character would be Master Chief. If Nintendo could pull off a licensing deal for Sora with the likes of Disney, getting a loaner for Microsoft's iconic Spartan should be no problem.
Give us Rex please.
@AFernandes03 if they brought Nier Automata, it would make sense. But I really hope they don't do another Joker...
@RareFan Yesss Crash and Rayman would be a no brainer imo, they are so iconic. But they have to start adding western characters, and I don't know if they are allowed to do it (I don't understand why they don't do that, honestly...)
Not only would Sora be another sword user, but a male, human-anime-sword user, something we already have enough. We need more characters like Crash, Spyro, Rayman, Shantae or Geno. A bit more diversity in the characters.
I'd prefer Arle from Puyo Puyo. We still need fhe True Puzzle rep for Smash! We could have gotten Panel de Pon's Lip but that chance has been wasted because the Horrendously Devastating demand for violent characters like Doom Slayer and Scorpion.
@Silly_G "due to America's aversion to the 'h word'" No offense here, but have you been to America? We've got to be one of the most foul mouthed countries on Earth. If hell got censored, it'd most likely be due to Nintendo not wanting to include the word in an E10 rated game. Now I could see it being included in Japan but then being censored by Nintendo of America, but I doubt most of us would be offended by its inclusion.
@JR150 AT means assist trophy.
...Why are Goku and Kirito in the poll?
Are we still talking about Goku?!
Dear goodness the amount of KH haters here is both appalling and hilarious at the same time. Nintendo oughta be aware of the requests by now at the very least. If not a full-fledged fighter, Sora's gonna make it in as a Spirit.
I once again invite y'all to take a peek at the following video. Even without prior knowledge of the source of my nickname's namesake, you have to agree that the moveset potential is outright monstrous right here.
@CooperFrank
Sadly yes, we are. Sakurai should start saying that no non-game character (and yes, as a Sora fan I'm aware of what this entails) is viable at the beginning of every stream. I see no way out otherwise.
@AlexSora89
I can understand the hate/dislike for KH. KH is such a mess of a game. The story is confusing, a lot of the games come out on different consoles, and the games are at this point more movies than actual games, and some of them retell shot-for-shot the Disney movies. Especially with Frozen in KH3.
@Silly_G I would lose my freaking mind if Commander Keen got into Smash, but sadly, he's probably the most unlikely character to get in, ever (since pretty much nobody knows or cares about him). I at least want Keen 1 to 6 ported to the switch in a collection first. Although if he was in Smash, I bet a mii gunner costume could work.
@RareFan
Fair enough. The storyline has been made confusing by the introduction of Chain of Memories - mind you, the first Nintendo outing - back in 2004. Going from I to II while skipping CoM meant a fair deal of confusion for GBA-less players, given CoM explained exactly why Sora woke up in cryogenic stasis at the beginning of II.
As for a KH fan like myself, however? I loved every twist and turn the plot had to offer. If anything, the biggest issue I have with III is that the long-awaited denouement was squeezed in the endgame rather than split throughout the entire campaign. Other than that, it's amazing how much the animesque Square characters and the Disney worlds just work when put together.
@GregamanX
Like just for the CK love. The guy needs more love anyway.
make a sense Sora and Kingdom Hearts are very popular
@AlexSora89 For me it's not so much hating "Kingdom hearts" (I played one on the PS2 and it didn't "Click" with me, but that's an aside), it's just that with all the "fire emblem" characters so far, doesn't Smash have enough RPG sword-users by now?
@GregamanX : I'd lose my mind if we could just get Keen 6 out of copyright limbo (where its ownership status went up in the air after Formgen carked it in the 90s, because iD got greedy and wanted to sell Keen 6 separately via another distributor rather than sell Keen 4-6 as a trilogy, which also resulted in Keens 4-6 flopping, saleswise, as it was such a poor value proposition).
The extremely limited and legendary iD Anthology was the last time it was made available officially in physical form, I believe.
The story behind it is a little too convoluted to post here, but considering that Spear of Destiny (also passed on to Formgen back in the day) was able to be released again after all of these years, I don't understand why Keen 6 still isn't available for sale.
I would love the Game Boy Color version to be made available again as well. I got the shock of my life seeing an ad for it in the back of a kids magazine back in 2001. I emu'ed it, and it compared very poorly to the legendary PC originals, but I would still like to play it again and own an official copy in some form.
A collection on Switch (and GOG) with the seven PC instalments (and any variations, such as CGA versions) and the GBC game would be the holy grail of Commander Keen releases, at least until The Universe Is Toast is made (originally announced for a 1992 release ).
I was also very pleasantly surprised by the release of Keen Dreams last year and the attention it received on gaming sites. iD/Bethesda are crazy for allowing a series with such boundless potential to languish. Keen deserves to be every bit as iconic as the big gaming icons.
@MysticX
There's still no one wielding a key though.
And no, Pac-Man and Mr. Game & Watch don't count.
Fan polls are all very cool but want I want most from Smash characters is....
...surprise! Like when Snake and Sonic first joined or Cloud or Belmont. A WTF? reaction
I bet you $100 Dante would not be as popular of a vote as he is if it werent for that "leak". People hopping on bandwagons again.
If I had to bet money on one of these making it in, I'd say definitely Crash. Then Dante and maybe Rex. Arle would be cool & we need some female representation honestly but it really depends on where Nintendo's head is at with her.
Wasn't Sora said to be a no-go by someone at Nintendo because Disney didn't want it? I could be completely misremembering this or making it up. Regardless, Sora isn't a character I'm interested in on his own since Kingdom Hearts isn't for me but if by some true magic Disney characters make it in as part of whatever his kit/final smash is, that would be amazing.
Also, I think we'll be blindsided by at least a few DLC characters, and one will be from a traditional fighting game. I'd bank on Chun-li.
@SKTTR Firstly, Kingdom Hearts is probably among the most popular Square Enix franchises next to Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest and would make a really cool pick for mainstream audiences after Joker was introduced in the last pass
Also Dante is literally one of the most recognizable Capcom characters of all time what are you talking about
DMC may not have the sales power of Street Fighter or Monster Hunter but DMC definitely has a very large fanbase and Dante would actually be more complex than Bayonetta if they decided to remain incredibly faithful to the character as pretty much the guy who became the template for future protagonists in the character action game genre like Kratos or Bayonetta
I can also see it happening considering how particularly hard Capcom has been pushing the DMC games on Switch marketing wise, which is unusual for a game series completely new to Nintendo platforms
Ick what a weeb list.
Please please no...
No more sword people, please. Is the franchise worth it? Playstation has a great sale on HD versions of all 3 titles for 30 bucks, wondering how it stacks up to other beloved RPG brands
@Silly_G I would even take Keen 1 to 5 if 6 is the issue. Most people find that 4 is their favourite, but as long as I can have keen 5 at least, that's what really matters to me. I grew up with that particular title, and im dying to play it on something other than dosbox. The other 4 are still great though (especially 4). I never did play the game boy color game, as I heard it really didnt feel like the others. I never could get into Dreams. I was super disappointed when I found out it was the only one coming to switch (I heard that it was the only one that could literally be ported).
i wanna see agumon and gabumon from digimon it will be awesome dlc to the game
Id rather have Dante.
@zizo
I'd like to see that too, if only for a proper crossover between Pokémon and Digimon being long overdue.
That said, it'd mostly be just Agumon.
@JR150 For me the issue is less sword users and more Fire Emblem sword users, Dante and Sora are fine but the game doesn't need another FE character in it.
@JR150 Except... y'know... pretty much all of the top 5 have strong western fanbases who want them in Smash as well. Sora, Dante, the Hunter and Rex are four of the most common requests you'll see on fan forums, alongside western mainstays like Doomslayer, Spyro, and Crash.
That said, look at how they actually fight. Sora, Dante and the Hunter each have access to a huge variety of weapons beyond their basic sword attack. Rex, on the other hand, would likely be paired with Pyra/Mythra, creating a very unique character. Maybe it's not merely having swords that is the issue...? It's either A: Having a moveset based entirely around swords or B: Being fro an overrepresented series (coughs, Fire Emblem, Pokemon) that leads to backlash. Don't forget, Inciniroar got the same backlash despite being nothing like an anime swordsman.
Normally, I would skip out on this sword fighter, but the Stage actually has potential with all of the Disney characters...unlike the horribly boring fire emblem stages
Yeah exactly what we need, another sword fighter.
sora and phoenix wright are my two ones I really want.
I know I’m in the minority, but I’d much prefer the second fighter’s pass to focus entirely on first-party characters.
And people getting hung up on “too many sword fighters” need to get over it. There are tons of sword fighters in Smash because there are tons of sword fighters in video games. It’s perfectly representative of gaming as a whole. Makes total sense. There are way more characters that fight with punches and kicks, yet you never hear complaints about “yet another unarmed fighter.”
I honestly can't stand the character Sora.
@thesilverbrick
There are also tons of iconic video game characters, that aren't anime-sword fighters.
@RareFan Isn't Prof. Layton's preferred method of combat fencing?
Uh guys, I know it's called a key blade, but it isn't actually a sword...
What an awful selection. The only ones who make sense for Smash are Hunter, Rex and maybe Crash, the rest is nonsense.
I want Eggman
The Puyo Puyo character, that’s interesting.
I think the Kingdom Hearts games are fun, but I really despise most of the original characters to be very generic and poorly written, including Sora.
@Yattaze Byleth was cause A: they have no personality and B: Fire Emblem.
Most people I spoke to enjoyed Hero in comparison. Sure there was a vocal minority, but he seemed to go over pretty well.
Love me some Nior Automata.
You know, i really hope and wish for Arle Nadja to make it in, i feel like she deserves a spot considering how huge a gaming staple the Madou Monogatari / Puyo Puyo series are as a whole in our gaming history since way back in the early days, that game series (specifically with Arle & Carbuncle) definitely would fit 100% with the whole gaming celebration theme that Smash Ultimate is representing.
@Yattaze I'm with you 100%, if that poll was available in the US, I would definitely vote for Arle Nadja, she definitely has earned a spot in Smash and I think she deserves it too!
I honestly thought more people would want Rayman in Smash than there seems to be.
I guess it'd be kinda hard to have a varied moveset for him, but he's undoubtedly an iconic character, would fill the Western quota, and his inclusion could maybe reinvigorate his franchise once more after Origins and Legends.
Legends is one of the best 2D platformers I've ever played, though I wouldn't mind a 3D Rayman 4.
I would rather like to see Goofy make the roster! As for my JRPG picks... definitely Quina or Vivi from FFIX. If it has to be a sword-wielding character then let it be Steiner with Vivi helping with his elemental attacks.
I wish I could get into this game, it's a spoils of riches that no other game comes close to matching, but I am a disaster at fighting games, which makes them completely un-fun for me. Wish it weren't so.
BTW, how many more characters does this game really need? Isn't it plenty enough at this point or is it just one of those unquenchable thirsts that will never be satisfied? Are there players who truly need more options in this insanely jam-packed title?
That said, the Ninja Turtles would be a pretty cool addition.
@Chowdaire Would you also like to add a nameless Nopon to the game as a Xenoblade rep? What about a Dragon Quest Slime?
@SKTTR However, unlike Robin and Corrin, the avatar of XCX has no default appearance, and the character creation system is too complex to get away with a bunch of randomized appearances like with Villager.
I would definetely love Reimu in Touhou. They got Undertale, Touhou is what inspired Undertale music, we could get a lot of great music. Plus, the franchise is FULL of iconic characters (humans, vampires, gods, undead zombies, ghosts). Touhou creator ZUN also said that he wants their characters in Smash, so I hope both Reimu and Marisa (the second protagonist) gets in
@GregamanX : That's nonsense as it's running on the same engine, or at least a modified version of Keens 4-6, and getting a DOS game running on the Switch should be child's play. Hell, even the humble DS can handle running DOS games natively (though ideally ones that can run on a 286, as more complex games would lag or fail to run altogether).
But the fact that Dreams has been ported to console/mobile suggests that it's been licensed to another party (oddly, Keen Dreams remains unavailable on PC, at least in any official capacity, though the shareware version of the game is the complete version of the game; paying for it was more of a gesture of goodwill to the developers back in the day).
With Keens 1-6, it seems that Bethesda/iD don't care enough to want the games ported to other platforms, which is a shame, really. I believe iD even contemplated porting the original Keen trilogy to NES back in the day, but nothing materialised. Aagh. I hate lamenting what could have been.
@SuperToe Give me Crash and I could care less about anyone else joining. He's the last major platforming mascot aside from Spyro who isn't in.
@Silly_G I did see an article on keen dreams on nintendolife a while ago. I just searched it, and it says Dreams isnt ownes by I'd software or Zenimax, and that's why it's the only one that can be ported to switch. I wish Id software would just port the games. It really shouldn't take much effort at all.
People said Toon Link was not going to be in Smash 4 because he was driving the Spirit Train.
People said Cloud was never going to be in Smash because Final Fantasy VII was never on a Nintendo console.
People said Bayonetta was never going to be in Smash because she is too sexy and her game is too violent.
People said Snake was never coming back because Konami only cares for pachinkos, same for Simon Belmont that was never going to be in Smash.
People said Ridley was never going to be in Smash because he is too big.
People said K. Rool was never going to be in Smash because he is irrelevant, missing for 10 years and was replaced by other villains.
People said Bandana Dee was never going to be in Smash because he is just a generic mook, a Goomba with a hat, while he is not in Smash as a Fighter, Piranha Plant is.
People insisted that characters that are too violent and use guns cannot be in Smash, and Joker proved them wrong again.
People said Hero was never going to be in Smash because the Dragon Quest series is only popular in Japan.
People said that Banjo was never going to be in Smash because he is owned by Microsoft (Good argument), and also because he is dead, irrelevant, he is missing for over 10 years, only boomers care about him, and third-party characters need relevance (Always a terrible argument).
People also said that Smash Bros. is only for Japanese characters, no Western characters, and Banjo broke a 79-Hits Combo.
People said Terry was never going to be in Smash because no one knows who he is and he was never a requested character.
People said Smash Ultimate was only going to get one Fighter Pass, no more DLC after that.
People said that DLC was not going to have more Nintendo characters and we got Byleth.
Yet, this community still insists in saying stuff like:
"Characters who are already Mii Costumes will never be upgraded into Fighters."
"Characters who are already Spirits will never be upgraded into Fighters."
"Characters who are already Assist Trophies will never be upgraded into Fighters."
"Characters from gory and violent games like Doom and Mortal Kombat are still impossible."
"Waluigi will never be in Smash because he is irrelevant, only appears in spin-offs and was never in any mainline Mario game."
"Isaac will never be in Smash because the Golden Sun series is a failure in sales."
"Geno will never be in Smash because he is dead, irrelevant, he is missing for over 20 years, he was in only one game, only boomers care about him, and don't compare him with Banjo because at least Banjo is the main character of his franchise which had 5 games."
"Steve will never be in Smash because Banjo disconfirmed him."
"Indie characters will never be in Smash, like Shantae, Shovel Knight, Quote and Hat Kid."
"Smash Ultimate will not have a Pokémon from Sword/Shield, because they made a Spirit Event for that game."
And "Sora will never be in Smash because he is owned by Disney."
Kirito (Sword Art Online) – 50 votes
right
@BulbasaurusRex Cross has an official default appearance, so the easiest way to add him would be putting this guy in with 8 different shirt colors.
But Sakurai would probably add female default Cross as the second alt and the remaining 6 alts will be the coolest looking complete armor sets. And Xenoblade X featured tons of iconic alien armor that looked great on your characters. (I can imagine a Monster Hunter fighter being approached similarly.) They'd be like the Animal Crossing Villager with just more variety for Sakurai to choose from for their 8 appearances.
@Silly_G @GregamanX Maybe iD is still salty about Nintendo turning down their proposal to port Mario to PC, so they've decided to keep the IP they created to replace the Mario license away from Nintendo (especially after the lousy results when they licensed the series for a GBC game)?

Before any of that list
@BulbasaurusRex I get what you're saying, but that would kind of be a pretty grudge to hold for such a long time. Especially since Keen and Mario are worlds apart in terms of recognition and success. Withholding keen from Switch is a move that Nintendo absolutely wouldn't care about. However, if they did want to port the games over, I'm sure Nintendo would be fine with it, as they already let Dreams come over. Wanting Nintendo to port Mario to PC was a completely unrealistic wish that they should have cooled off by 2020. Anyway, I think we're getting way off topic from the original article, which I haven't even commented about yet. Haha.
In regards to this article, I would be down for Sora, even though KH3 was one of the biggest letdowns I've ever played. I know he's another "swordfighter", but he has such a deep well of moves to pull from. There are a lot of characters I would rather have him over, but with only 6 slots left, there are certainly plenty of characters I would rather get more than him as well.
so sick of Kingdom Hearts. there are more interesting characters out there
It would be good to get some Streets of Rage characters
@Gerald - Yes. Final Fight, too.
Good thing the fans don't get final say then lol. Seriously can't think of a (reasonable) fighter i want less than Sora.
I’m all set with swordsmen but even though I guess that big key thing is a sword, I’d have liked to have seen Sora in the game. Even more so I’d like Ms Pac Man to be a Pac Man alt but I think namco can’t do that without paying some Americans money first. Also I’d want some more straight up Nintendo classics like amazon or Star man from Pro Wresting or Wart from Mario 2.
I suppose Barbara Bat is off the table then?
@JR150 You know, you're right. I was gonna correct you by saying Pac-Man. But I realized that he's owned by Namco...
@Kriven Super Smash Bros. Mania
The pool had only names pre-choosed to vote.
@Malones2792 - I wouldn't complain if they added Earthworm Jim.
@BulbasaurusRex Well, luckily for Xenoblade there are plenty of named Nopon that could serve as reps like Riki or Tora. Also, what's the difference between a nameless hunter or a nameless Palico? Both are just character created avatars. Finally, in regards to slimes: no, I wouldn't want a slime because they are a one dimensional monster and I would struggle to come up with an interesting move pool for them. However, since Palicos are playable there is a huge list of fun ideas they could incorporate into the character, explosive barrels, claws, sticks, boomerangs, horns, riding around on spiky balls or even having their ultimate be them getting into their cute little tank.
@Chowdaire Oh, I wasn't aware Palicos were actually playable avatars. I assumed you were just talking about mascot critters.
Oh come on Disney Sora must be added in that game.
