Silly costumes and characters have always been the norm in video games. Think of the various Mario and Nintendo costumes in Bayonetta 2 — Witch Time in a Princess Peach dress? Yes please. Link in Breath of the Wild could also get Rex's outfit from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. But let's take things back a step a second and look at things that are a bit more simple.
Nintendo Switch Sports has an online reward system which lets you earn points if you play in random matchmaking. You can then spend your hard-earned points on a rotating selection of customisation goodies for your Sportsmate. You get a little stamp card that you fill out for every item you buy, and once you buy all 12, you unlock a special outfit.
This week's collection is called the Relaxation Collection, and it's the fourth set to be brought into the game after the Basic, Cute, and Soccer Collections. It's got some nice green lotus-print sportswear, a cute little purple bob, etc. But if you fill out your card and get all 12 items, you're rewarded with a squirrel bodysuit.
Okay, playing sports with glasses on, with long jackets on, we can accept. But a bodysuit? Imagine how sweaty you'd get inside that! Well, it's different, we'll give Nintendo that. We've grabbed a list from Nintendo of everything you can get from the Relaxation Collection, so peruse away:

The folks over at GameXplain showed off the outfit by wearing it to play soccer, badminton, and bowling. The outfit is purple by default, but it'll change colours depending on the sport you're playing — like in soccer, for example, you can see the squirrel body is in a lovely light blue instead.
Take a look at the video below to see the squirrel outfit in motion, and let us know what you think of this addition!

Nintendo catering to the furry audience just likes splatoon and animal crossing does.
Still waiting on the Crab Body outfit.
I already have those titles from the first wave. Are they already repeating?
Wish there was a little more customization for it. You can change the attire and put on glasses, but no changes to facial detail or hats. But I've had no difficulty finding myself in a crowd so far.
So, it turns out that I've actually had the body of a squirrel this whole time!
Maybe I wasn't merely physically repulsive after all.
But where am I going to find a squirrel in Australia?
You guys aren't helping with my crippling self-esteem issues!
@Fizza Was just about to post this meme, Nice to know we think alike (:
The white streak makes it look more like a skunk, really.
@RupeeClock : It certainly looks like a stinker.
NINTENDO: Yeah who needs Conker when we could just give you a generic squirrel avatar.
I want that squirrel!!!
Seems like it may take quite a bit of effort tough.
Didn't realise they had timed unlockable events for the game.
Considering the squirrel body blinks and emotes in-game, it's more likely that that's not a suit...
Of course, the obvious question is: What does this mean for the weeks coming? Like, will we get more animals, or will they get more wilder than that? (Robots, slime, mummy, Nintendo costumes, etc.)
still think it's criminal you have to pay for online to access any of this! buying the game should be enough... but playing online offline (if that makes sense) limits you to 2 items per week. not right.
They done got furries in muh sports game
as much as i do love squirrels this new avatar is just disappointing. cant customize fur color, eyes, or give head and face accessories. heck the eyes and mouth move but still show way less emotion
their customization is just as limited as the miis, and it doesnt give me high hopes for other designs. i was hoping they'd be on par with human avatars but they feel like a rushed afterthought, while humans still get all the full customization
And now it is U$19,90 with 10 sports +, like it deserves? Not?
ok...bye
@boxyguy makes sense because it's probably already like considered a costume.
Missed opportunity for Krystal...
@AzzyC with their blinking eyes and moving mouths it makes me think more than costume. i understand the miis lack of options since their designs clash with the headwear, but these sportsmates are designed with the game in mind, and the squirrel head isnt even all that diff from the humans. why they cant do simple stuff like change eye color or wear a hat baffles me
Well I GOTTA get this game now
New mascot for the series?
I don't have the game and this outfit seems super random, but that is still a seriously cute squirrel.
I am waiting for a catbody outfit, since I like to play as a kitty whenever possible
But is there a time limit on when we must get it by?
@LavaTwilight In the article they say that this is, "this WEEK'S collection."
Nintendo decided to sell unfinished game with not really important cosmetic items while left Switch Sports lack of amount of different sports and basic rules to play. The more I see this game, the more I felt disappointed.
Oh no the furries are coming… lol.
@boxyguy because it's a furry costume the mius sure wearing.
That's pretty rad! ^_^
That’s pretty nutty
@AzzyC still feels like they just didn't have enough time to fully implement the body types, rather than some design desicion
I just unlocked the squirrel costume.
Btw, I see there is a purple hair color, but when I play the game I only get the color red. I'm confused.
They are going to milk this game for what it's worth, this should have been a fee2pay title not a retail game 😤
@huyi Huh? What? The costumes are earned by playing the game online and the game was NEVER f2p to begin with.
I guess they want to go nutty with this game's updates...
I'll see myself out.
