After quietly announcing a western release date just a few days ago, Square Enix has now shared a brand new trailer for its upcoming strategy RPG, The DioField Chronicle.
The trailer, shared by Nintendo Everything, is only in Japanese for the time being, but it shows off a snippet of gameplay outside of the tactical battles. But don't worry, there are plenty of those diorama-style skirmishes to see in the short trailer too.
Developed by Lancarse, The DioField Chronicle looks to combine real-time strategic elements with "something never seen before", and we're looking forward to seeing even more of that in the coming weeks.
The game is getting a demo on 10th August in Japan, and while that date hasn't been confirmed for the west, we have our fingers crossed.
The DioField Chronicle launches on 22nd September in what's looking like a hugely packed second half of the year for Square Enix. Is this strategy RPG jumping out at you? Let us know what you think of the game so far in the comments!

I heard something that they already confirmed digital Deluxe editions. I'll get the regular copy if it still looks good close to drop time but it looks like it's not coming here until next year.
If it doesn't wow me, it's my last Squeenix purchase.
@LittleGhost
It is a worldwide release, digital deluxe also often means extra costumes or a little bit of dlc comes with it, it wont be anything huge.
Also making it your last Square purchase if it doesn't wow you is only hampering yourself in a big way. I would urge you not to be so close minded in that regard as it will only cause you to miss out on the many great games they publish or develop.
@Rosona There are bonus weapons, those will be available later in the game, they are not exclusive.. Just a Head Start kit... And a digital art book. I don't feel those are worth the extra, but for those that do... it's there.
I grew up with square soft. I haven't been as pleased with their output since the merger. I enjoyed Bravely Default immensely (dumb name and all), but each subsequent entry in the series has had diminishing returns. (The females are the real leads, the "leads" are basically witnesses.)
I did like Octopath Traveler.
Nier: Automata is amazing. That was the first game that compelled me to go out and buy the books, But at its heart that is a Yoko Taro game. He is the only big talent over there I watch. I will buy anything he puts out, but i don't care for the excessive amount of crossover content. And no mobile games.
I'm more curious about JRPG's from other companies these days because I really missed out on those back in the day and in the period I was not gaming. The latest JRPG that gave me an incredible experience look experience and actually moved me emotionally was 13 sentinels, So I'm really interested in vanillaware and Atlus right now.
Square is more so a publisher now than an actual developer, so I pay more attention to who's directing and developing the games. And Yoko Taro is the only one I really favor.
Asano had me, but I REALLY dislike Triangle Strategy, and I was hype. I had to turn off a lot of visual options to even be able to play that. Artdink =/= Acquire.
So, I'm just trying to keep my expectations in check. If I do get something from them it won't be full price.
But hey... Live-A-Live! That WILL be awesome. Takashi Tokita rocks!
Looks great tbh. I always prefer SRPJs in my Switch, miles ahead of other consoles, but this looks a little bigger than normal. Not sure if PS5 or Switch, which would be the best experience for me with this one.
@AlanaHagues Your video embed in this article is set to jump to the last 10 seconds. Just thought you might like to know
@fragranthills Thank you! The embed should be fixed now.
"Diorama-style?" I must be missing something here; I'm not seeing anything in these high-fantasy XCOM battles to suggest such stylings.
I get that that's probably what Squeenix was going for with the name, but they've gotta actually earn the descriptor; just saying "This game is named DioField, please describe it as being diorama-styled" doesn't cut it.
Why is this year so amazing for gaming?!
Darn, it looks pretty generic, so i guess i shouldn't get excited. I hate free moving tactical games, quit removing the grid. I have never played a good game with free movement & i probably never will, because I likely won't play games with that design choice anymore.
@LittleGhost i thought they already confirmed the Japan release date (September 22) is the worldwide release date? So, why would it not come there until next year?
