In a recent interview with IGN, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion producer Mariko Sato discussed the title's performance, detailing specifics for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Sato confirmed that all assets in the game were being replaced, making full use of Unreal Engine 4 in the process to make the game align as closely as possible to Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth. With this in mind, the PC version will be targeting 120FPS, whereas the PS5 and Xbox versions will target 60FPS.
What about the Switch, though? Well, Sato didn't elaborate much on Nintendo's console, but confirmed that there would be "differences" in resolution and frame rate. Our guess is that we're probably looking at 1080p in docked mode and 720p in handheld with a frame rate of 30FPS for both, but this will likely be confirmed at a later date.
It sounds concerning, but veteran producer Yoshinori Kitase did go on to say that the team is aiming for gamers to have the same great experience with Crisis Core regardless of your choice of platform:
“Our main purpose with this title is that we wanted a really wide range of players to be able to play on whatever platform that they desired. So we're looking forward to seeing which platform that players go for because the gaming experience will be solid and the same great experience on all platforms.”
In addition to the remastered visuals, Crisis Core will also boast full voice acting along with a newly arranged combat. Just don't go expecting any new story content, as Square-Enix are adamant that the game will be a remaster rather than a remake.

As long as it’s no Cloud version (pun intended) then I’m happy.
Honestly? I’m just glad they did it. As long as it performs. Really excellent to see it get love across PC and all three major console platforms.
Not remotely concerning, completely expected.
@Rosona you know why they wrote it like that...lol.
Really as long as it can keep a steady framerate with good frame pacing then im fine with 30.
its when you have things like Hyrule warriors:AoC, SMTV, MHstories 2, and Xenoblade 2 (handheld) where they often dip below 30 where i find it has a big effect on gameplay.
often a stable 30 can be preferable to a highly unstable 60 when it comes to switch.
If they can do this one, why cant they port Remake??
Tell us something else we don't know about.
@Rpg-lover I had Cheerios for my breakfast this morning.
I mean....duh, ofcourse i'd be different from giant next gen consoles, doesn't mean you have to be losing your sleep over it lol
Something something Sherlock.
I'm just amazed it's coming at all. I'm too old to tell the difference anyway.
@Olliemar28 lol... good one!!
One Winged Angel plays
I won't be surprised if it gets cancelled and they just port the original at this point... Which I wouldn't complain about.😁
@HollowSpectre
It's too far in development already for that too happen.
I mean, if it looks and plays like trash I’ve got other avenues. Still, I’m pretty confident it’ll turn out alright.
@Bunkerneath I'm 100% sure that this will be less demanding than FFVIIR
I love when companies prepare their players for disappointment in advance
One thing I find strange is that thus far it seems a 1:1 remake/remaster/whatever so unless there are changes they haven't shown it's gonna be at odds with FFVIIR
@sanderev You can preorder the physical version from amazon right now
As long as it's a stable 30FPS (both docked and undocked) then I'm perfectly fine with the downgrade in performance.
People who still expect Switch ports to run exactly the same as the PS5/Xbox One/PC ports after all this time are pretty much shaping themselves up to be disappointed (though I won't deny that Nintendo REALLY should release a Switch Pro already).
Nontheless, this doesn't really affect me because I was planning on getting this on PC.
@Bunkerneath FFVII Remake didn't even come to Xbox after the Epic Game Store exclusivity so it's safe to say the remake trilogy will stay Playstation console exclusive forever.
Much to the surprise of absolutely no one…
I'm totally fine with this. Hopefully this shows Square are getting the message that no-one wants laggy cloud streaming versions.
As long as the frame rate is smooth I likely won’t notice a difference.
I probably won’t be able to tell unless it’s unstable, but if they’re targeting 30fps I bet it’ll be stable

@sanderev my thoughts exactly. I'll take that over the cloud version any day.
Lol 120 fps..so more than your eyes can even notice. Impressive.
Shouldn't be much of an issue making a slightly better looking 15 year old PSP game run at 30 one would think.
I think it’s healthier to expect less. Not getting my hopes too high. My guess is the handheld resolution will be 576p like we saw in FFXII or 540p as we saw in Xenoblade Chronicles 2. A bit blurry but still playable.
@sanderev couldn't agree more
a small price to pay for portability..
I'm sure 30fps is expected from most if not all 3rd party Switch games. Isn't Crisis Core turned based? I didn't play the original on psp, so I'm excited either way. Switch version for portability, PS5 version for visuals, frame rate, trophies...
1080p docked/720p handheld? Lol ok optimistic
@johnedwin well, steam deck can play it way better, and you don’t need to pay any price for portability 😉
I would not bet on those resolutions.
@clianvXAi unless you do not have a steam deck....
Not concerning to me at all, totally expected. Just glad they're putting this on Switch. Portability all day for me.
Actually, it’s less concerning for me-if they say it won’t be as powerful as the ps4 version, I would guess that means it’s not a cloud version. Cloud versions are a pass for me, as much as I’d like to play a game.
no way that the switch version would be 1080p in docked mode
@DTfeartheBEARD The original had action combat. It's real-time action sorta like FFVII Remake, but slower and more deliberate.
Nintendo 3rd party will be 30fps. . . forever lol
Why not mention the Xbox one & PS4 versions aswell
Still a mids game at best regardless of fps.
I pre-ordered for both PS5 and Switch!
Do we know what they're planning for the PS4 version?
@Bunkerneath maybe they will? 🤞
Looking forward to this one. In the original you had no control over when you summon creatures or who you summon, I hope this has been changed.
This coming would seems to indicate a upgrade Switch is in the works - why else would they make sure a software migration to Switch console.
@Bunkerneath easier to upgrade a PSP game, than downgrade a PS5 game for Switch
For me, I don't mind if performance and/or resolution is affected. Please just keep the graphics as good as how it looks.
It’s a shame but it just feels like every game these days has performance issues on the switch. I’m gonna have to get this for the PS5 because this game will no doubt suffer and struggle on switch.
