Re: Hardware Review: Go-tcha Ranger: A Worthy Upgrade For The Ultimate Pokémon GO Accessory?

Retr_acro

Not really the best looking case. Even with that battery extender, I'll stick to my go-tcha band.

@Ryu_Niiyama Except it's not really cheating? This device's main feature is the equivalent of holding the Go Plus button to auto catch, except that it only works on iOS, not Android. Guess which platform I have? Plus this accessory is the main reason I'm back to playing this game after two years. One of the things that made me stop playing the game was because it was too disruptive during my exercises. With this accessory's auto catch/spin feature, I can jog uninterrupted while being rewarded.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of the Nintendo Direct?

Retr_acro

Probably the worst for me was the 2nd half of the Xenoblade 2 showcase. My goodness they pick the worst narrator for a tutorial yawn puts me to sleep. I've even checked the japanese version of that portion just to see if it's better there. Nope, it's somehow even worse; a high pitched annoyance. So I guess it doesn't really matter what voice language I pick (well okay, with english you deal with terrible lip syncing, not that xenoblade never had that problem, but after watching lets-plays like yakuza 0 it's just so noticeable now)

What really surprised me was just how much content there is on Mario Odyssey. I've never been so excited for a mainline mario game since, ever!

A Project Octopath demo was also a nice surprise. Been enjoying the demo!

Re: "No Widespread Technical Problems" With Switch Joy-Cons, Claims Nintendo

Retr_acro

Assuming Nintendo isn't doing damage control, their definition of technical difficulties may be actual hardware defects instead of the design flaw of the left joy con. Whenever I read joy con problems online, they are either defective joy cons or a perfectly working one, but with that design flaw. If they can't simply increase the power of the bluetooth signal then I can see them stealth release a left joy con revision.

Re: Nintendo Outlines Pricing Range for Switch Online Service

Retr_acro

I was expecting $90 given how they price their plastic dock, so this is good news; you pay less for an inferior service compared to ps+ and xbox live. VR on the switch however, does anyone really want VR on a 720p screen? Screen door effect anyone? Even my s6 at 1440p, there's still some noticeable screen door effect. I did read online that the psvr has less screen door effect than vive or oculus due to having more subpixels despite having lower resolution.

Re: Hori Range of Nintendo Switch Accessories, Including LAN Adapter, Arrives on Amazon UK

Retr_acro

I can sort of understand the console itself might not have room for an ethernet port (probably have to make the console slightly more thicker to fit it in), but not having a built in ethernet port on the dock itself is ridiculous. Adding it shouldn't cost that much, and it might justify the price of the dock (nah I'm kidding, that price is still criminal even if they added one in).

Re: Poll: The Nintendo NX - Where Do You Stand on the Future of Nintendo?

Retr_acro

I hope that the handheld (it's going to be a handheld , right?) still has dual screens, but the lower, sub screen be smaller vertically than the main, top screen while still having the same pixel density (for example top screen is 720p sub screen is 600p or 540p but still same pixel density). Reason is because I have the impression that the touch screen has devolved into nothing more than a UI/map/inventory screen, so why should it be big? It's just eating up the battery more. Also those face buttons to be more ergonomically layout akin to the wii u gamepad or more the pro controller. That's one thing I hate about the d-pad placement on the 3ds, especially if I need to use the shoulder buttons. Oh and please not be at least 720p, not 480p. I'll laugh during the whole reveal if they do so. I'll laugh even harder if its 480p, one screen.

Other than that I am pretty excited for a handheld that can connect to the tv. Maybe now I can tolerate playing monster hunter.

Re: Reaction: The NX Could Benefit from Using Cartridges Instead of Discs

Retr_acro

Don't really care if the home console uses disk or cards or none, but I want the home console to at least be able to play the next gen handheld games, like the super gameboy or the gameboy player.

As for digital vs physical: I'd probably go full digital if well download speeds across the world get better, there are better discounts for digital downloads, ex: a subscription program where you can save x% off on new games, and you can resell it.

Re: SNES Games Finally Arriving on the New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console

Retr_acro

I have to buy Earthbound again to play on the go? And to think people say Nintendo doesn't seem to want to take our money.
Donkey Kong Country on the go is nice though

But seriously, their new account system better have some kind of unified digital library, otherwise it's going to be another ten thousand steps backward =

Re: Timing Of NX Launch Could Help Nintendo Grab Some Of Sony And Microsoft's Market Share, Says Analyst

Retr_acro

Nintendo can have all the third party they can get; it still won't change anything. Why? Because people buy consoles for exclusives. If there's a game available in all other platforms, why would they bother with a Nintendo console when it's available on the PS or XBOX? If Ninty wants to gain a lot of audience, they need to pretty much PAY third party devs to make games on their consoles and force them to be exclusive (as much as I hate third party exclusivity)

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

Retr_acro

As for physical copies of games, I don't know, I'm starting to not care as much about it. I've been buying most of my games physical, but the contents inside those boxes are decreasing in quality fast. I open up a manual of a wii u or 3ds game, and it's just either a folded instructions "booklet" or a four-page manual. Special Editions are still pretty decent, but I don't buy those very often.

Also, as for games becoming full digital, I don't think they'll be doing that for a while. If they eventually go full digital, if they can offer great sales like steam sales, then it's alright with me.

Re: New Patent Sparks Talk of Potential NX Details

Retr_acro

Looks like my dream that the next gen home console being able to play the next gen handheld might actually be a reality. Although, I am one of those people who rather have a console that can natively play handheld games via its own slot (akin to the super gameboy or gameboy player). That shouldn't be much of a problem if both handheld and home console have the same architecture.

Re: Masahiro Sakurai Tackles Criticisms of Bonus Features in Games

Retr_acro

I really think that they'll make this feature locked, on-disk[cartridge?] dlc on the west versions, which is probably the best thing they can do to avoid more criticism; locking it will give the player a very clear option they can avoid/use using this feature, and this avoids censorship. Just make this as a rated-m dlc on the eshop or something, then you'll avoid criticism from anti-censorship folks.

Re: Sakurai Explains Reasoning Behind Removal Of Ice Climbers From Super Smash Bros.

Retr_acro

@Yorumi But there would still the problem of the 3DS/2DS dealing with characters like Ice Climbers. Even if the 3DS/2DS can download the data necessary to display the character and interpret the data they receive from the other player, wouldn't the 3DS/2DS still have problems from executing the data due to the limited hardware? It would slow the game down and make the match unplayable/unbearable.

Re: Sakurai Explains Reasoning Behind Removal Of Ice Climbers From Super Smash Bros.

Retr_acro

@Yorumi I was assuming that the DLC is free, I don't know, DLC can be free right? Ninty would still make lots of $$$ from sales of the "NEW 3DS" and Wii U.

There is one thing I forgot and this makes any sort of exclusive DLC characters pretty much impossible, the online portion. They still have to take into account that there are people using non-"NEW 3DS", and that could make the online match finding convoluted and messy. Although I guess they could just make the DLC portion just for the "NEW 3DS" and completely leave the 3DS/2DS out. Then during online matches, there could be an option where if you want to use DLC characters, it will only match you up with other 3DS and Wii U (if that is possible). It will make online matchups very messy, so that probably won't happen.

Re: The Nikkei Reports Potential Nintendo Smartphone Strategy, to be Announced This Week

Retr_acro

Would having mini games that have Nintendo Characters really push smartphone owners to buy a gaming device? I have a hard time picturing sensible people to do that. Don't most people who play games on their smartphones play games on short bursts or when bored? Not many games on a console really have that, and lots of games on the Nintendo consoles take larger chunks of play time than smartphone games, right? But okay, maybe there are games that do take a lot of time to play in a smartphone. At least those type of games is probably, and most likely, cheaper than the average game (even e-shop games) on the 3DS.

Re: New Smash Bros. to be "Something Right in Between" Melee and Brawl

Retr_acro

I posted a very similar comment on an older topic, but anyway:

I still think Sakurai should make gamemodes relating to game mechanics like Regular Mode (casual) and Advance Mode (competitive). Regular Mode has more restrictions in game mechanics while Advance Mode lifts restrictions on game mechanics. So for example, wavedashing (if this returns at all) would be impossible to do in Regular Mode but possible in Advance mode.

Game modes can prevent an experienced, competitive player from ruining casual opponents good time on casual mode (such as during parties), as well as pushing casuals to step up their game should they dare play on the competitive mode with hardcore players. Also doing this equals both a happy casual AND a happy competitive group; casuals don't have to play the fast paced, competitive mode, and competitive people will probably never bother with the casual mode.

Re: Sakurai Aiming To Please "The Silent Majority" With New Smash Bros.

Retr_acro

What would be nicer could be an options to change game mechanics such as Competitive Mode and Regular(casual) Mode.

Toggling to whichever can either keep limit game mechanics (casual) or disable game mechanic limits (competitive). That way if you want to play with friends just for laughs, you can force the game to be as casual as possible, and then you can toggle back to Competitive mode when you want to play seriously.

Doing this, Mr. Sakurai, will please so much more groups of people. You can keep that casual, fun, chaotic gameplay while making it possible to have decent competitive tourneys whenever you want.
