One of the many modern-day pursuits of Earthbound / Mother creator Shigesato Itoi is creating planners, or "Techos" as they're known in Japan. His company Hobonichi makes many of these useful items, which can be used as a diary, notebook or scrapbook.
Hobonichi has had plenty of success in its native Japan with such books, and Itoi is now using his game development past to bring them to a whole new sector of the market.
In short, Hobonichi is making Earthbound / Mother-themed Techos. Last year there was an Onett version (there's a video at the bottom of the page showing it off) and Hobonichi has confirmed that the Saturn Valley and Cast variants are coming soon.
As you can see from the photos below, these planners incorporate artwork from the famous Nintendo series:

Ok Nintendo Life, quit torturing us with all the awesome stuff we will never see in the West!
@rdrunner1178 You could always just import them. Honestly they seem very worth it, they're beautiful!
These look awesome. Also, could someone please help me? I'm throwing money at the screen, yet nothing's working.
Mother/Earthbound—the Franchise that keeps on giving.
I wish Itoi would make another one of these games. I'd settle for another classic 2D game in the series, ala Earthbound and Mother 3 (much like we are getting with the fan made Mother 4 actually http://www.mother4game.com/), but just imagine what this guy could achieve in a proper 3D 3rd person game (at least like the 3D Pokemon games on 3DS) and with a proper AAA budget (again, at least like the Pokemon games on 3DS)...
PS. Mother 3 is, hands down, one of the best and most impacting experiences I've ever had in a video game. For anyone that has not played it, I would heartily recommend giving it a go. Oh, and make sure to name the characters after members of your family for the best effect and most impact
I'd like to think this is a a sign for a Mother/Earthbound Trilogy... oh, worldwide.
I don't care if they release it on the NX too. I just want an official Mother 3 release
The 'Cast' one is a thing of serious beauty ***adds saved search on ebay***
@rdrunner1178 They ship internationally, I've used a Hobonichi Techo for 2 years now. They only recently (in 2014) had an English version of the book due to international popularity, so if the planners continue to gain more users I imagine in a year or two they'll consider actually selling them in other countries (or I hope--I don't want to spend $12 on shipping every time I buy from them -_-
It's all rather expensive, though. These covers cost ~$25 each.
I want them all!!
these are all available from the hobonichi techo website. they will be on sale September 1st
I'd probably buy one just because I can.
Those are cute. I'm not really much of a notebook user though. But how often do we get Earthbound Memorabilia?
@Kirk I suppose something like having the maps in 3D like in the new pokemon games would work.
And remember, that Mother 3 was actually going to be a 64 game, but they went GBA in the end.
@icedude545 haha I was thinking the same thing. I want to support Eartbound but I don't really need anything like this at the moment.
@Gridatttack Exactly.
I'm actually happy they went for the 2D sprite look in Mother 3 over 3D, because the hardware just wasn't powerful enough to do the style justice in 3D (neither on the N64 nor the GBA), but in this day and age I really think at least a 2.5D Mother game, rendered in full 3D, could be gorgeous.
I would lap that up in a heartbeat.
Nice.
