@GrailUK To be fair, MKW didn't look that good from the start.
I reckon Nintendo will do the same as with Switch 1, or what Sony did with the Vita, release an update later that shrinks the reserved ram. Vita went from having half of its ram, 256 mb, available for games to having 365-390 mb available.
@Specters Series X reserves 2.5 Gb out of 16, PS5 reserves 3.5 Gb out of 16, the pro around the same. I'm both cases that's less than the 1/4 of total system ram the Switch 2 reserves, a lot less for series X.
@BirdoDidNothingWrong Not really, my comparison involves modifying the book, which is akin to modifying a console, which is usually required to use it in ways not permitted by the manufacturer.
If you hold no ill will for people who modify their consoles for legitimate reasons, why do you deem it acceptable to punish them alongside people who pirate games? Why are you surprised that people want to use hardware they bought however they want?
So... They waited on it for 4 years without upgrading it, so now it's twice as old as Switch 1's chip on release, mcf*ckhuge, power hungry and probably runs hot.
Can't wait for Switch 3 with an 8 years old chip. :B
The new EULA literally states that they reserve the right to BOTH ban you from online play/access AND make your hardware nonfunctional in part or in full.
@Dr_Lugae Way to go sucking that boot and ignoring all the legitimate ways of modifying your hardware, like removing downclocking to actually hit decent framerates in Switch 1 games or running ports/emulators.
Wow, the Switch 2 is just the Grand Central of disappointment.
I was really hoping for analog triggers and to see how developers would implement them, eg. controlling how hard you draw your bow, how many rounds you shoot, how hard you cast a spell, all that without having to wait.
It was pretty clear they weren't going to use those parts, they like to cut costs wherever possible. They didn't even mention if they fixed the drift, instead animated the Joycons drifting on screen.
That is hilarious. While I agree about the franchise part, how are any of these games genre-defining? We've had open world racers before, at least 2 were even ported to Switch 1. And we've had platform games before.
Yeah, this reveal way pretty disappointing, between the meh specs (seriously couldn't put full 16 gigs of ram in there? That's the minimum nowadays), ridiculous prices (at least for my region), nickle-and-diming for every single thing, low max cart size, the game keys, no built-in camera in a handheld, sh*tty chat, paywalled button and other such stuff, I'm going to have to disagree about the cheaper Japanese version being a non-issue. I for one am not happy about subsidising buyers in a country that had significantly higher wages than mine.
Was going to buy early, after an this I'm going to wait, or just get a next gen handheld pc.
Yeah, I remain sceptical. I keep hearing of new lcd screens being the best thing ever, but in person they always turn out worse than same gen Oleds. The black levels are always the Achilles heel.
@themightyant I think you're overestimating how fast the prices will drop. There's very few devices utilising the capabilities of Express cards, so they'll remain niche for quite a while and the price drops won't be nearly as steep. Not to mention that the consecutive speed classes you mentioned never had such a massive price hike from one to the next.
It's always the same with them, they do good in a generation and then get arrogant and try exploiting all that goodwill during the next, usually with bad results.
@Henners If it didn't cost a fortune, it's not an Express card, currently they cost around, sometimes over 4x the price of same capacity standard Micro Sd card.
To those saying no biggie, the price is over 4x the typical Micro Sd price, 128 gb costs as much as a 512 gb standard micro sd, the 256 gb variant is actually more expensive than some 1 tb cards.
How come all the other handhelds work just fine with standard Micro Sd cards?
The 3Ds version is vastly superior. But the N64 version is always there if I want to go back to the game that hates me and if I want to stare at low fps, muddy pea soup.
@myerscereal Me thinks not, I'd rather point at Sony's bumbling approach to the Vita and all the wrong choices.
Not to mention Nintendo already having a simply unbeatable position in the handheld console world.
This was the first time where their handheld was comparable graphically to home consoles and the first time when the best versions of their newest games were on their handheld.
@myerscereal And the Switch was helped massively by being a handheld, something you often buy multiples of power household, unlike stationary consoles.
Though, why is anyone surprised? Nintendo is known for ruthless and underhanded tactics. They probably hoped the owners would get scared and fold, but they called their bluff.
I guess after the flustercuck that was getting the collector's extras for XC3 (I didn't manage to get them), they decided to forgo any kind of CE this time, shame, particularly after the lovely XC1DE CE available at decent prices on retail.
I always find it funny how people are seriously comparing Switch and Steam Deck sales. One is another handheld, more with added dock, from a company with over 40 years of gaming experience, sold all over the world and available in countless stores, with any payment method available, including interest-free installments. The other is somewhere between a handheld pc and a handheld console, no dock included, sold in select countries and only from a single online retailer, either for money or store credit, no interest free installments and no installments at all outside of the US. The availability and ease to obtain both of these, particularly in countries with lower salaries, is vastly different.
And it sold so well despite being a home console, which is usually bought 1 per household. Switch has problems catching up despite being a handheld, which is usually bought in multiple order household.
Ooooh, nice! Might finally get Terraria on switch, then, some I already have it on pc and Vita.
Why would they care about the clearly spurious lawsuit launched using spurious tactics, like trying to make the patents work retroactively and ignoring prior art?
I'm thankful for the simple fact that no matter how much Nintendo cries, throws a fit and tries to crush pirates, for every heat cut off from the hydra 10 new ones will sprout.
Hearing more and more about this, how apparently Nintendo filed these patents a month are PalWorld's release, it seems more and more shady and I hope Nintendo loses this.

Re: Kingdom Hearts 4 Team Provides Dev Update, Shares New Screenshots
While it would be infuriating, it'd be also really hilarious if they went for a switch 2 cloud version.
Or we'll get a game keyblade. :B
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Final Tech Specs Have Been Confirmed
@GrailUK I meant a software update, as with Switch 1 and the Vita, I don't think that qualifies as a pro version.

@RiasGremory Now that's funny.
It's around PS4, maybe between that and the pro.

Fancy new option that's been standard in phones and laptops for years now.

Re: Nintendo Updates Its User Agreement To Crack Down On Emulation
@BirdoDidNothingWrong That comparison makes no sense.
Better one would be if you bought a book, then drew a smiley face on one page and suddenly could no longer read the entire book.

@-wc- First was a PlayStation controller by Namco, then either the Dualshock or the Saturn 3D controller, whichever was first.

Re: The Switch 2's Battery Is Almost A Match For The Steam Deck's
That's quite poor, and, judging by other handhelds, this means that the most demanding games will either look bad or drain the battery in an hour.
Re: The Switch 2's Screen Isn't OLED, But It Will Support 1080p/120fps Gameplay
Disappointing that it's not an oled.
But, at least, if it supports 120 fps, then, judging by the original Switch, we can count on most games running at around 40-60 fps. :B

I think we can fully trust Nintendo, just look how well they delivered on the three pillars promise with the GBA.
Let us also never forget the breadth of first party games for the old systems once new ones were released. I'm sure there were just so many of them.

Re: Japan's Switch eShop Will Soon No Longer Accept Overseas Payment Methods
Hah, this way they can stop claim that their system is region free, even if in reality it isn't.
Or they'll just region lock Switch 2. Afterall, Nintendo always knows better.
