Playing the games offline, everything feels great to me, or at least exactly as I remember it. I viewed this collection as more of a museum and collection of cool games in a historical context and the online features are an added bonus. If this was released as just the games with none of the historical context, interviews, or depth, I would be judging things differently, but I think it's really cool so far. This is more in line with Atari 50 and the Jeff Minter Collection than the Capcom Fighting Collections. Both are awesome, but I guess I'm looking for different things when I turn on each one.
I was extremely happy Virtua Fighter came back with REVO, but was pretty disappointed by the lack of anything to really do solo outside of a super basic arcade mode. I'm pretty happy to hear this will be a free upgrade for those who already own the game and I will absolutely be picking it up on Switch 2. Same with the MK collection
I am definitely part of the problem. I wanted to give this game a try, but I had this feeling it wouldn't be around for super long and didn't want to invest the time in something that would be going away soon
@Morsel that's funny because I just got the original AI: The Somnium Files and it's been super cool so far but I'm still early on.
I'm wishing I could play Turok 1 and 2 on switch, but not willing to spend $20 each on those when I own the carts for N64 and have both games on steam as well, lol
@Ningygamer I came here to specifically mention this, lol. That was such a cool bonus and surprise and this one also looks awesome! I'm excited! I'm all for more fun spooky games that aren't as violent. This kind of reminds me a bit of Costume Quests atmosphere
@Cashews I'm completely with you. I can respect the people that get into it, and I love how much single player content there is and a real, full story mode, but the gameplay itself I've never been a fan of with the modern games. MKX was the closest I've got, but I can't wrap my mind around the gameplay and stiffness
@Cashews it's been a problem for a long time and it's wild that they've never really addressed it. X-rays and stuff look impactful, but the combat always looks and feels really stilted and stiff.
I used to have to clip pictures for things I wanted for Christmas. I think I cut out a picture of Pokemon yellow. I got quest for Camelot. My parents showed me the picture and quest for Camelot was in the back and I didn't know. I was heartbroken that day 💔 I hear the game is decent though!
I was really looking forward to this for a long time, but the motion controls never felt right in the demo and it ruined my excitement for it. If the game gets a port to VR with proper motion controls though, that might renew my interest. The song list in the game isn't something I'd want to play with just button controls if the motion controls don't work properly
I'm always up for new music games. I've still never played Samba De Amigo despite being a big fan of the genre. Also, sometimes the songs you don't expect much from can be the most fun to play in games depending on their rhythms
@samuelvictor have you checked out Atari 50? That blew my mind with all the features and the way it was laid out. I need to pick up the cowabunga collection sometime soon!
I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up picking this up, I just wish it wasn't $49.99. Ive had it on PC since it hit early access and followed it on crowdfunding before that, and I have complaints about it for sure, but it definitely is going for a simulation and does pretty good with that. It's not for everyone for sure. Shoot, it's probably not for most.people, but it's a neat thing. it's made it hard for me to go back to the skate games because I feel like I have so much more control over the board in Session. And even the PC version is buggy, which also makes it hard to justify the price
I really liked 9 and 10, but I wasn't a fan of the way they split the moves in the character styles for 11 and the refilling super meters and fatal blows. Still interested in seeing how 12 turns out
I'm happy these are here and think it's a cool bonus. It's just a neat addition to their online service and it's nice that things run well and look well and they included a few surprises in their initial launches.
I always went with Link until 2015 or so, then started to put my name instead. Everyone knows he's Link, so I wanted to mix it up while using as little creativity as possible.
I've got mixed feelings on this. I'm glad to see they've added the season 1 content finally, but the timings on combos and things changed for the PC version with this patch that made me have to relearn most of the characters I play and playstyles. The Switch version was outdated, but was the version I preferred playing. Oh well, I guess it's time to adapt again. Still, glad to see they didn't forget about this port
I keep putting this in my cart and then taking it back out because I feel like I'm terrible at games that require you to figure things out on your own. I think that's kind of the point though, so I guess I just have to give the games a chance. I liked obra dinner and I have tunic but didn't play much of it yet
Probably restarting Bayonetta 3. I loved 1 and 2, but 3 isn't clicking with me the same way and I mostly blame controlling the summons and the size of some of the enemies makes it hard to see what I'm doing on screen. I've also decided to finally try to figure out how to play Stride on Meta Quest 2 decently because I'm awful at it but it always looks so fun
I hated that port of Virtua Fighter 2 forever until the last few years. When you sit down with it and give it a chance, it works really well for what it is and is kind of impressive. It's nice having a Genesis fighting game that isn't the traditional street fighter or mortal Kombat style
I made a terrible mistake and started scrolling through the article before getting a moment to read it, and saw the Dreamlight Valley picture and was like "This has to be written by Kate!" But yeah! Excellent picks! The only thing that comes to mind that isn't on this list is that first level of Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, but I think that's just Vancouver or something and I'm pretty sure that's not an imaginary place.
I played and finished this on PC years ago and it was surprisingly fun and entertaining. Even the combat system gets to be engaging as the game goes on
This game kind of reminds me of Street Fighter 5 when it came out. The core gameplay was fun and creative, but there wasn't much to do if you don't want to play random matches online or have friends to come over. As time went on, SFV added single player content. This game could really benefit from the same treatment. Maybe a season mode or challenges or something besides just the really short cups and exhibition modes.
I haven't played much Street Fighter 5 since season 2 started, so I finally got the upgrade and season 5 pass to unlock everyone and I'm relearning that in anticipation for SF6. Also, I've been playing a bit of Chained Echoes but I might finally try to finish God of War 2018 or Marvel's Spider-Man. I always bounce off those two games because of their combat systems not clicking with me.
This is one of the coolest and most comprehensive game collections I have seen and I'm absolutely loving everything about it. Yes, it's missing some stuff I'd want to see, but there's so much depth and context and features here where I can't complain. I expected just a bunch of 2600 games and got so much more.
I need to finish Bayonetta 3 and put more time into Signalis, but I've been hooked on Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer and..for some reason, Resident Evil: Re:Verse. Re:verse isn't great, but it's a lot of stupid fun the leaves me laughing and yelling at the game whenever something ridiculous happens.
I really need to get back to this. I feel like I got this and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 the same week and one of the games clearly had my attention more than the other, lol.
I finally forced myself to finish it this year and felt the same way. I can respect it for its importance, but I absolutely hate the trial and error stuff and it gets more annoying in the back half of the game. I'm glad I finished it but it's never fully clicked with me.
I was really hoping 1080 would have come out first because it feels appropriate for this time of year, but I'll take whatever I can get. If only I still had friends into games near me though
I've had this on PC forever and as much as I like the variety of playstyles the characters represent and it is a deep fighting game, I can't believe the roster is still so tiny. It's the hardest selling point for me.
@Coffeemonster how does that thing feel in terms of portability? I've got an rg351v and I love it, but I'm always on the hunt for something that feels better in my pocket
I finished Limbo and Little Nightmares 1 and now I'm finally playing Beacon Pines.
I liked the art styles in Limbo and Little Nightmares, but wasn't a huge fan of the trial and error gameplay. I'm glad I finally finished them, but I'm having a much better time with Beacon Pines, not that it's the same genre
I miss fun extreme sports games and I'm convinced the reason we don't have that many of them is because people need to make more pop/punk. I miss licensed music in games, but streaming games with those kinds of soundtracks is also incredibly stressful.
I'm finally at the end of Bayonetta 2, so finishing that off and maybe starting up Beacon Pines or possibly trying to actually finish Resident Evil 1 for once in my life. I always get lost or lose steam halfway through and tap out.
I'm looking forward to nier automata on switch because I'd love to have it on the go and away from my PC. Been looking forward to Bayonetta 3 since it was announced. I'm also curious about the switch port of No Man's Sky. I have low expectations for performance, but can't wait to see how it turns out regardless. I'd love to try out persona 5 but man, that's a game I'll have to wait for.
All the Bayonetta 3 news has me excited, but I've never really played Bayonetta 2. I just finished 1 and I'm planning on diving into 2 today. I think 1 still holds up really well and I can't wait to finally experience the second game!
@farrgazer I think the SNES version is the one that people still play in tournaments. I think there was a side tournament for it at EVO this year. I only played the Genesis version when I was a kid and was shocked at how different the SNES version was when I finally got to try it later in life
I am beyond thrilled about the AEW game! Especially since it looked like something more approachable and just fun instead of focusing so much on simulation! It's just cool to have options that represent different styles. I'm also hopeful that this runs better on Switch than the WWE games did 🙏
I like the idea of Severed Steel, but the fact that it runs at 30fps or lower and doesn't support gyro along with not great auto aim means it's super difficult for me to play on switch. The color palette also makes it kind of difficult to tell what you're looking at sometimes too.
I definitely need to give Capcom Arcade Stadium 2 a shot, especially if I can pick up the titles I'm interested in
I was streaming a game last night when this steam update hit and it actually made me laugh out loud. This update definitely isn't for me, but hopefully it makes someone happy!
@PJOReilly you the real MVP! I appreciate this! I want to give this a try since I'm sure people are going to be talking about it on podcasts for a while, but I'd like to start here and go back to the older games if I'm enjoying this one at some point
I've bought this game several times and never really play it because I always feel this immense pressure on myself of me not possibly enjoying the game as much as people expect me to. It's this weird anxiety that I should just ignore. I feel the same way about Hades. I know both are great games but almost overwhelming
