Kirby's Epic Yarn from the Wii era is making a comeback. During the latest Nintendo Direct presentation today Nintendo announced Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn for the 3DS family of systems. The game is scheduled for a 2019 release.
Players can expect some new features - like the ability to craft even bigger yarn balls, summon bead-collecting wind and play two all-new modes featuring King Dedede and Meta Knight.
Are you planning on picking this game up on the 3DS? Did you play the original? Tell us below.

I remember the 3DS.
The yarn is slightly less epic nowadays, but I'll take it. Good to see a non-traditional Kirby platformer get some love in the form of a port.
Kind of random, but looks ok
I took my wallet out when I saw it. Please Nintendo feed my N3DS with every Wii/Gamecube port you can conceive.
Have the original but hey more for 3ds only people to play!
I thought the Katamari port was random. Then I remembered this. Are they trying to drag out the 3DS lifespan with ports?
One of the worst Kirby games made.
They could've done Super Star Ultra instead.
Ha, I said that to carry on their mission of stretching out the 3DS's lifespan for as long as possible, Kirby was going to get hooked back up to the milking machine again... It was inevitable. The poor little guy.
I made an annoyed moan when they revealed this. Epic Yarn was such a mind-numbingly easy game. Bring back the moderately challenging Kirby games from the 8 and 16 bit era.
I'm disappointed I was expecting Kirby and the Rainbow Curse since that game can't be ported to Switch and would've make more sense than epic yarn
I'm really happy this was announced, i never got round to buying it on the Wii
Great stuff. I've no problem with them extended the 3DS's life in these ways. Bowser's Inside Story too!
I loved this game on Wii. I might just go back to 3DS for this.
Missed out on this for the Wii; definitely grabbing this one.
Well never played it on wii so likely will pick it up
I’m honestly freaking jazzed because Kirby’s Epic Yarn was one of my favorite ganes growing up
This is just an extra disappointment.
@Xaessya That's your opinion. It's my favorite Kirby game. Such great level design, art style, and creative areas.
This is what I figured the 3DS announcements would be. At the tail end of the 3DS's lifespan, we're getting ports and remixes of older games that are still liked. This way, Nintendo can put minimal effort into the system while still feeding it games for those who prefer the platform.
The 3DS will retire with an outright STELLAR library of games.
Just when I think I'm done buying 3DS games... definitely buying this.
I kept telling myself I have no interest in this until they went and announced the new content. Ugh. Stay strong!
If it has stereoscopic 3D I will get it.
It could look extra good in 3D.
Nope... have it on Dolphin. Good enough.
@TJWorks yup. Ever since Go revitalized the system in 2016 they got caught now trying to find quick/cheap ways to sell to that new crowd- it's not working as Wario Ware Gold shows, games now go to it to die, because it's showed something like 80% decline in hardware sales worldwide on their last financial report.
@BlueOcean didn't they say at the bottom it was only playable in 2D?
@brunojenso you know it actually plays the original Bowser's Inside Story, right?
"Hit Wii game"?
Did it really sell that well? Almost everyone I met either hated it or had a very lukewarm opinion of it. I played it back in the day and really got little out of it. If it counts as a Kirby game, in my opinion it's the worst one I've played. I liked Yoshi's Wooly World because it still had some challenge to it while also having the cute yarn look, but I remember getting so utterly bored with the lack of challenge in this one that I gave up on it after just the 2nd world or so.
Of course, the fact I had Fallout: New Vegas at the time may have played a role in that too. Either way, meh.
EDIT: It was met with a lot of critical acclaim apparently. Figures gaming journalists would love a game where dying has basically no penalty. Looks like it sold pretty decently. Still, bored me to death. If it lacks 3D like many 3DS games have of late, that only further damages it's appeal for me. The yarn look might look really great with the 3D effect.
@pika677 Yep - and I know some don't like the new art styles - but I do and I like how they are bringing them all together in this way as a 3DS set.
Not going to buy it, there's simply not enough new content to justify the double dip, but I hope it has 3D effect. Nowadays you never know what they're going to do...
Will be buying this game day one, perfect calming game
@pika677 I didn't watch it, if it's 2D only then it must be for technical limitations I guess.
