Good old HAMSTER. This Japanese company has become quite reliable when it comes to bringing retro classics to the Switch eShop, and this week is no exception with Neo Geo brawler Savage Reign and arcade shmup Arcade Archives: Alpha Mission being offered for your consideration. Both of these SNK classics will be available tomorrow on the Switch eShop.
The release of Alpha Mission has even gotten PlatinumGames' Hideki Kamiya a bit excited:
Here are some official details about each title:
SAVAGE REIGN is a fighting game released by SNK in 1995. In the first half of the 21st century, 10 great fighters have gathered to compete in King Lion's Battle of the Beast-God! Howling fists and flying weapons! A completely new style of fighting game. Utilize the innovative 2 Line System to achieve victory in this vicious fight!
ALPHA MISSION is a shooting game released by SNK in 1985. Equip Power Armor as you fight and experience one of the most innovative shooting games of its time. Collect parts to assemble eight types of Power Armor to use strategically as you play the game.
Let us know if you plan to pick one of these retro classics up tomorrow with a comment below.

Alpha Mission will be in SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, so no buy from me.
And Savage Reign, well, I don't know anything about it, but the fact it doesn't ring a bell must mean it didn't stand out as a 1 vs 1 fighter back in the day.
They're leaving Puzzle Booble 1 and 2 for the end, as I posted earlier in the forum. I look forward to the release of PB2!
It's a shame we don't have Hamster reviews anymore :_(
By the way, they're releasing games that are included in the collection (Athena and Ikari Warriors will come as they already announced), but I guess the legal situation is different from what prevents Hamster from releasing a proper MVS port of Windjammers. Maybe the collection is handled by SNK itself and doesn't think it's a problem having a Hamster version released almost at the same time. I don't know. But I doubt DotEmu allows Hamster to do what many of us would wish for.
Wait, "Tinkled Pink?"
Tinkled pink? Am I missing something here?
Just checked the PSN ADK collection to make sure Savage Reign not included in the way Aggressors of Dark Kombat was. It's not. Read up on reviews... not great. I think Savage Reign will be my next bad, but y'know at least it's different, Neo Geo game.
@shaneoh He should see a doctor about that.
Will someone please release Super Fire Pro Wrestling?
I saw Savage reign in an arcade once it had a interesting backgound foreground mechanic but other than that is didn't really stand out.
@shaneoh
@BionicDodo
"Tickled pink" is just a phrase that means you are delighted about something. https://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/tickled-pink.html
@RadioShadow I know what 'tickled pink' means but this article's headline says 'tinkled pink'!
I'm puzzled, or perhaps more accurately, pleasantly surprised to see Alpha Mission.
Usually if a classic like this was appearing in a compilation from a different publisher, it would prevent it from appearing digitally on the same platform by another publisher.
While I doubt NIS America is thrilled, this is a very consumer friendly decision. And while I suspect most that find some aspect of this interesting will buy the full compilation, it's nice to see for someone that just might want Vanguard for instance, that they may be able to just grab it as a $8 Arcade Archives download in time.
And if Digital Eclipse poorly emulates one of your favorites in the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection, not all hope is lost since Hamster might do it correctly and release it as an Arcade Archives release.
And if Digital Eclipse ignores a favorite game like I suspect will happen for me (I'd really love to see SNK's Satan of Saturn be one of the last 5 bonus games, but I'm not holding my breath with their prioritization of late 80's content), Hamster just might come to the rescue one of these days thanks to also having a SNK licensing deal for pre Neo Geo content.
Savage Reign is ok, definitely not day 1 but I’ll get it eventually. Alpha Mission will be on that 40th Anniversary Collection so I’ll pass on that one.
I don’t think it’s supposed to be pink when you tinkle Kamiya...
@BionicDodo If he's tinkling pink he might have stage four kidney disease and should probably go to emergency.
If he's tickled pink that would be the proper idiom in this scenario. This could be one of those moments people have where they've been saying the idiom wrong their whole life and the article writer is just discovering this now.
@MrGlubGlub At least he can enjoy plenty of SNK goodness on his Switch while he's there.
Tinkled Pink... I don’t get it. 🤷🏻♂️
Alpha Mission is a slow boring game even by classic stnadards, Savage reign is amazing. Just need a release of Kizuna Encounter to complete. What's happened to Ninja Commando?
Definitely getting Savage Reign, Alpha Mission I'll just get the SNK Collection for that.
He should probably see a doctor about that...
I personally like Savage Reign, but I don't begrudge anybody s***ting all over it. It's stiff, special motions can be a little unintuitive, and not really tournament-worthy, if that's a requirement for some people.
@YANDMAN Ninja Commando came out over a month ago.
So what does his tweet say then?
Nice to see someone in the gaming business tweet how excited he is in seeing a game from his youth get a rerelease. Thats one way to get you fans interested in the retro stuff you grew up with.
The Hamster train keeps onnnnn going!! 👍
"... Neo Geo brawler Savage Reign ..."
The game is NOT a "brawler".
Go "tinkle" yourself as punishment.
@Hikaru It was taken down the next day in Europe.
Pretty sure I had like 5 quarters in Savage Reign at Six Flags when I was 10 and my friend pulled me away from it because the new Mortal Kombat 3 machine was finally free. Been trying to remember what game that was for decades.
