UK physical chart data is now in for the week ending 15th May, revealing that New Pokémon Snap has fallen down the pecking order.
The game, which had previously enjoyed first and second-place finishes in its opening two weeks, is now down in tenth place. EA's Mass Effect: Legendary Edition has debuted in top spot this week, followed by last week's number one, Resident Evil Village.
Elsewhere, though, Nintendo's still having a very solid time in the UK; five of the top ten are exclusive to Switch, and the Switch version of FIFA 21 managed to outsell the Xbox One and PS5 editions of the game this week.
Here's a look at this week's top ten all formats chart:
Last Week | This Week | Title |
---|---|---|
- | 1 | Mass Effect: Legendary Edition |
1 | 2 | Resident Evil Village |
12 | 3 | Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales |
3 | 4 | FIFA 21 |
- | 5 | Subnautica: Below Zero |
5 | 6 | Animal Crossing: New Horizons |
6 | 7 | Minecraft (Switch) |
4 | 8 | Mario Kart 8 Deluxe |
7 | 9 | Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury |
2 | 10 | New Pokémon Snap |

On the one hand I don't care about Pokémon Snap.
On the other I'm glad MK8D is still selling so well, I'll be able to play it online for a longer time.
@ophone We need it to stop selling. We have literally been playing the same Mario Kart for 7 years now. Need something new. It's great that people still want to play, but it's starting to feel somewhat dated. Or even some new dlc would be nice. Anything!
Looks like they found some PS5 stock.
@iuli
Who thought Pokemon Snap was gonna sell super crazy? 🤔
It's gonna sell decently and that's all anyone can hope for.
Anywhoo, Subnautica: Below Zero at #5 is super interesting to me.
@iuli I think you meant to say it's almost out of top ten after two weeks, not one. It's done well, everyone knows it's a spin off and wouldn't stay in the charts forever
Is it wrong for me to be surprised (and a bit miffed) to see MK8D here week in and week out?
I love the game, don’t get me wrong, but riddle me this- how does Splatoon 2 get piles of DLC and a sequel, but Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gets nothing, except for the small amount of BOTW content, and Labo support? In the grand scheme of things, that’s nothing.
Just add some DLC, Nintendo. It’d be printing money for you. Ugh... but I’ll wait. Hoping for something...
Doesn't surprise me as pokemon snap is not a main game and it's gameplay won't cater to many pokemon fans, I bought the game on release and played for 4 hours straight but haven't touched it again since as its just repetitive and can get boring pretty quick, it's the kind of game that needs to be played in small bursts
@sanderev With an attachment rate of 3 it appears. Or is that all the games available for it currently?!?
@fox_mattcloud
"We" is evidently a small number compared to the amount of people experiencing it for the first time on Switch.
Mario Kart 9 will launch with the Switch successor and not before.
@fox_mattcloud While I agree that it's time for a new Mario kart, we can also be happy that we have a modern Mario kart to begin with. There's plenty franchises which can't even say that, such as Nintendo's other big racer, F-Zero.
If the Switch didn't have a Mario Kart at all though then that'd be a different story. Of course I'll more than happily welcome a new Mario Kart on Switch though!
@DrJoson @iuli
You are both incorrect this is the game's third week in the charts!
I’m more surprised that GTA V isn’t in this chart considering that it seems like a constant resident of the top 10.
❗This weekend, I bought 'Taxi Chaos' and 'Commandos 2 HD'.
Both were physical Game Cards.
So is Mass Effect any good?
I was really only playing Far Cry and Bioshock series around that time period and didn't have time for much else.
Pokemon Snap is a fun mini game that on the era of mobile games shouldn't cost more than 15$. Even in the era of N64 i felt this Snap and Hey you Pikachu! were more gimmicks to milk Pokemania than real games
@Yosher Mario Kart is Nintendo's number 1 franchise. F-Zero is not even in their top 20. That's why we don't see F-Zero anymore and why it kind of sucks that there hasn't been (fully) new Mario Kart in 7 years.
@TheFullAndy ooo dunno dude, MK8 is cross systems (for obvious reasons) wouldn't be surprised if it on switch n whatever the follow up is.
Inclined to side with you tho, new mk shifts systems
That rare moment when GTA V temporarily stopped appearing in the top ten.
@roboshort I understand that but the fact of the matter is that we do still have a modern Mario Kart on the current hardware but no modern F-Zero.
What a surprise! New Snap falls after everyone who wanted nostalgia bought it!
@Willsy
The Wii U was such a sales disaster that many don't know it even existed or the games that were on it so to most MK8D is the Switch's Mario Kart.
Mario Kart 9 has probably been in the works for years and likely planned for a Switch release but MK8D doesn't just sell, it has been selling better year on year which is madness!
If I was Nintendo I would definitely be holding on to MK9 to launch alongside the next system.
Would love some more tracks for MK8D though!
@1ofUs
Yes videogame does not stay top of the sales chart forever shocker.
Not sure what point you are making.
@TheFullAndy just sayin that now that everyone who wanted nostalgia bought it, it's not doing as well because of that.
@1ofUs
Considering the game sold more than 4 times as much at launch in the UK compared to the first game on N64 it would suggest it is more than nostalgia.
Also still being in the top 10 is still doing well.
@1ofUs
New Pokemon Snap is selling fine - it's just not going to be able to compete against mainline Super Mario, Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft in terms of legs.
@dimi Yeah, I really felt like Pokemon Snap needed to expand and become an all-out free roaming adventure game if it wanted to come back. The original was fun for me when I was 11, but any time I tried to revisit it, it being nothing more than a select number of on-rails levels was just really off-putting.
Given how big Pokémon is, I’m surprised Snap has already fallen so far, but I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s evergreen in the summer as kids are out of school. Surprised to see Miles Morales so high though. Must’ve been a big PS5 stock weekend. A shame Mass Effect isn’t on Switch. I’d probably have bought it on Switch, but definitely not adding it to my PS5 rotation.
Where's GTA V? I shouldn't worry, it'll be back next week...
@TheFullAndy yah I agree. It's a tough one pending on what the new system actually does. 80+ mill switches out there, vast majority are regular consumers. If the New system is just a higher res, min innovation I wouldn't be surprised if it drops on both
It took me a number of visits to a variety of shops to get hold of Pokemon Snap as it was sold out in Game and two Tesco stores. I suspect the game is selling better than Nintendo anticipated and that its sharp chart drop this week is stock related.
This doesn't surprise me. Regardless of quality or lack of, Pokémon Snap isn't a mainline game or Go, so it falls off dramatically after most everyone who wanted a sequel to the original Nintendo 64 game has already snapped it up. Also, this is the UK, one of Nintendo's relatively weaker markets.
As much as I really do like the original Mass Effect games, I'm not giving EA a dime until they stop snubbing Nintendo with lazy ports and legacy editions.
@Prizm
First one is very good and promissing, the second one is also very good, but the RPG Elements are reduced and it has a few questionable Parts in the Story (really, only a few).
The third one i have skipped.
From what i was reading back than, they messed up the Story very weirdly, released than a DLC with the "true Ending" .
Look up some Videos comparing the Graphics.
IMO, it is not worth spending so much money for Titles you can get for far less because of a new Engine
@Yosher Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to see a new FZero. I think it can be made mainstream so that it could sell enough. I just don’t see Nintendo bringing it back any time soon. I doubt EPD would even consider developing it so it’d most likely need to be an outside studio. I wish they’d build up NST again for racing/sports games
@roboshort Don't get me wrong either though. I know Nintendo is not likely to bring the series back. Which is exactly why I'm saying that Mario Kart fans (which I'm also one of) are lucky to have their series continue with a modern entry early into every console's lifecycle (with the Switch arguably excluded so far, though I still think Mario Kart 8 counts), while F-Zero remains dormant.
We'll see how things go in with these things though.
Have some dignity UK and stop buying FIFA.
