Super random article indeed, but surprising one. I generally dislike actual songs in video games... and that sub-90's-Metallica tune (the first minute I listened to) makes no exception !
I wish we get more out of nowhere articles like this one though.
Speaking of Metroid and random, did you know Metroid Dread was originally scheduled for DS but got cancelled because of the technical limitations of the console ?
It looks like an unapologetical ripoff of Starfox still, but why not ? This guy, Goddard, may want to get rid of the ghosts of Starfox who pursue him since 32 years.
@HammerGalladeBro "The only thing I'd change from the American box is the mention of F-Zero". Some people have been stoned for less than such an assertion.
@tektite_captain "Is that really the reason?" Yes...at least regarding the Smarties buttons (I can't find the source). You're right about the purple buttons, and I actually find them quite elegant and gentle. A more obvious and agressive color choice would have been the same bright red as the one on the Nes controllers (and on Gameboy) Still, I've watched american commercials of that era and it was all thunder and lightnings and "Power" everywhere.
@Dom_31 "Who decided to go with that?" Nintendo of America. They wanted to get rid of the colourful buttons or anything that was toy-like (colours are supposed to be childish...) because the agressively marketed, (young) adult oriented Megadrive was succesful in the USA.
Hence north-american console looking like a tank, because war is an adult and futuristic thing...
The japanese box art is faithful to the original one. It's mysterious, Kandisky abstract and colourful. The difference of sizes between the console and the controllers is not relevant for the mini Super Famicom, but who cares ?
"12" "12" "12" "20 + 1" "20 + 1" (why not "21" ?), huge controllers...🙄
Europe is as messy and hard to understand as the way UE works...which makes sense. It's the worst of the three.
North America is still this tank with lavender dots, but that list of beloved games (not Starfox 2...) is very appealing.
The hectic animated film "Redline" is close to what could be a F-Zero movie. It was written by Katsuhiro Ishii (among others), of whom "the taste of tea" is the most known film in Europe.
@jfp @JohnnyMind Indeed, I played Portal 2 and it was vertiginous and so intelligently designed , regardless of the pretty humiliating and cruel humor. You never cease thinking, you're never on autopilot... and there are not 7800 bananas to collect ( I needed to say that) !
@jfp But don't you think Nintendo games (and now movies) are actually blockbusters made by a company that don't take much risks anymore ? They kept their cold blood and took a risk with BoTW (a WiiU game, originally) when they were close to the edge and when Itawa ran the house...and because they couldn't feed a console only with "Mario kart" and Kirby remakes.
I wish they made more space a for more creativity and experimental things like Mario 35, F-Zero 99 or this cardboard stuff (Nintendo Labo).
It looks like the laboratory has closed its doors and that Nintendo asks itself : "What Disney would do ?"
Is Muhammad bin Salman still a shareholder of Nintendo ? Knowing that Singapore is a tax haven with virtually no political opposition, one can see the democratic values of Nintendo which is a multinational like any other. One for the money, two for the more and more standardised and pricey video games (and Legos, and Happy meal, and bland movies, and real estate, etc...)
I found Lego Voyagers was the most appealing game of the Direct. It's published by Annapurna, which seems to have slightly changed their artistic views to make more $$$. The daughter of Larry Ellison eventually became a business-as-usual adult, I suppose...
The best entries of the series were released within the first 5 years (the first 10 years if, as I do, you consider Yoshi's Island as part of the gang).
The wait for "Super Mario World 2" seemed sooo long back in the days, when I was a kid.
And I'm still waiting for a sequel to "A link to the past" on Super Nes !
@NintendoJunkie My comment doesn't contain an ounce of irony. There were enough original and intriguing game mechanics that made me stay but I found Undertale disturbing and unpleasant by the way the story unfolds. I couldn't tell you more without spoiling this already bitter sauce.
Just don't put too much trust in that skeleton character that sticks with you along that game, which has been widely praised, but turns out to be a sadistic moral lesson, in my opinion.
Keep in mind I'm in minority, but still...
No. This game made me feel terrible and guilty. The twist at the end was imagined by a pervert, and I felt like I was abused by the creator of this horrendous game and by the characters who inhabit in it.

Re: Star Fox Programmer's Next Game May As Well Be A New Entry In Nintendo's Series
Oh, it reminds me of an F-Zero-like with cel-shaded graphics called UPX (?) that was announced years ago.

It looks like japanese Bruce Springsteen and Billy Idol have an argument on both boxes.
Re: The Indie Game Awards 2025 GOTY Nominee List Is Packed With Switch Hits
@Gaymer90 I get the idea. Maybe, as a (southern) European (or simply as a non-citizen of the current USA), I find that quite disturbing.

Don't match !

"Black Voice in Gaming Award" ?
"'Women-Led Indie Game Award" ?
Well, I thought women and black people were human after all.

"Dragon Power : Straightest Hair Ever"

Oh, the american Sangoku has been through the same design worries as Megaman.
That game was so disappointing...

I guess video games are polyglot. "Tetris" doesn't speak the same language as, say "GTA 5".

"it’s clear you’re not in Kansas anymore" : )
Apart from that, the game looks like a psychedelic collectathon, but a collectathon still. Isn't this a bit boring ?
