Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (August 27th)

I’ve been having an absolute blast with the Splatoon 3 demo! I’ll probably be playing that only for the rest of the day in terms of gaming. Otherwise, I don’t really know what to play in the meantime while I wait for Splatoon 3 to release in a couple of weeks. I’ll probably just play random multiplayer games like Fortnite.

Re: Talking Point: How Were You Introduced To Metroid?

P-Man

My first Metroid game was Metroid: Samus Returns. I had known about Metroid for quite a while by the time I got Samus Returns, but I had never played one until that point. Samus Returns instantly hooked me and I became a fan. I’ve since played Zero Mission, Prime, and Dread (Dread being my favorite). I’ll definitely get to the rest of the games eventually, especially if they all come to Switch, but I’m definitely a Metroid fan regardless.

I’ve taken a break from my Breath of the Wild Korok hunt for the time being. I’ll definitely get it done before the sequel releases, but as of now I’m going to be playing other games. Right now I’m playing Halo: Combat Evolved for the first time and I’m enjoying it for the most part, but I’m really excited to get to some of the later entries like 3 and Infinite. I’ve also been playing plenty of Splatoon 2 after the Splatoon 3 Direct and I’m having a blast.

Re: Talking Point: Has Nintendo Done Enough To Justify Splatoon 3's Existence?

P-Man

I was already pretty excited for Splatoon 3 before, but this direct has gotten me truly hyped. Many of the things that are being added are admittedly small, but they all add up to a seemingly far better package for me. For example, the new ways to play with friends like making a party for Turf War, Anarchy Battles with friends, and Salmon Run all the time is a huge deal for me, because it means I won’t be stupidly barred from playing with my friends like I sometimes was in Splatoon 2. That alone will greatly increase the longevity of the game for me and everything else is only bonus features.

Re: Soapbox: 20 Years Later, Super Mario Sunshine Is Still The Best 3D Mario

P-Man

I think that Super Mario Sunshine has a lot going for it, but it is also bogged down by many issues that shouldn’t even be there (such as the lack of an episode-based counter for blue coins). More than any other Mario game I think that Sunshine deserves a remaster, because of just how much potential it has when a few frustrating issues are taken care of.

I’m honestly not sure what I’ll play for single player. I think I’ll do a combination of yet another Super Mario Odyssey playthrough and a continuation of my Korok Seed hunt in Breath of the Wild. For multiplayer, one of my friends just got a Nintendo Switch with a few games, so we’ll all probably play some Smash Bros. Ultimate and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe together. Should be a pretty fun weekend!

For single player games, I have been playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and Burnout Paradise Remastered. TMNT has beautiful pixel visuals and super catchy music, which I have been loving so far. This is my first ever beat ‘em up game and I have been having a lot of fun with it. Burnout Paradise took me a bit to get used to, but now that I understand the game I really like it.

For Multiplayer, my friends and I have been playing with a larger group lately, which makes it hard to play games like Fall Guys, but Fortnite Creative has continued to be a blast for us!

I’m mostly going to be playing single player, with a bit of multiplayer sprinkles in. My primary game I’ll be playing is Sonic Origins. I’m really enjoying the story mode (aside from Sonic CD) and the missions. The game feels like it has lots to do, but it isn’t overwhelming. I’m pleased to say that my second game is Hollow Knight. I gave it one more try like I said I would last week and I think it finally got through to me. I’m about 3-3.5 hours in and I’m not even sure what I’m supposed to be doing. I’m just going all over the place finding new places to explore. I did finally decide that I need to get to the City of Tears, which I remembered from my previous attempt to play the game. I’m really liking it so far and I’m completely content with just taking my time with it. If I play any other games this weekend, it will most likely be Mario Strikers Battle League. I still have 5 Galactic Cups to finish up in the game. For multiplayer I’ll be playing Fall Guys and Fortnite with my friends. I have a lot to play this weekend and I hope that everyone is able to enjoy their weekend like I know I will!

@TheWingedAvenger If you don’t even understand the rules, how can you expect to enjoy it? I’m not saying you’re wrong for disliking the sport, but I used to be in the same boat as you until I finally learned more about the game.

@AnnoyingFrenzy A Mario take on American Football would be super cool in my opinion, but considering the sport isn’t really popular anywhere but here in the US, I’m not holding my breath lol.

I’m kind of playing a variety of things this weekend as I wait for Fall Guys and Sonic Origins next week. I’ll be playing more Mario Strikers Battle League, as I have all of the Galactic Cups to do still and I may also play Sonic Mania yet again just for the heck of it. For multiplayer I’ll be playing Fortnite and Overwatch with my friends (looking forward to Overwatch 2). However, there’s one game I can’t decide on and that’s Hollow Knight. I’ve heard great things about Hollow Knight in the past and I want to be excited for Silksong, but I’ve struggled to get into Hollow Knight twice now. I’m feeling pretty good about it at the moment, so we’ll see if I finally learn to love Hollow Knight. I’d appreciate some tips for the game if anyone has any!

Re: Poll: Has The Latest Trailer Convinced You To Buy Pokémon Scarlet & Violet?

P-Man

I’m sure I’ll get it anyway, but the trailer didn’t even remotely impress me. The game just looks off in terms of visuals and frame rate, which I was already worried about from the first trailer. I really want a new Pokémon game to truly grab me again, but lately I feel like Game Freak hasn’t been giving their all for these games. Even one extra year of development for this game could do it a lot of favors, but unfortunately they would never delay it. It just makes me sad to see a series that was once my favorite not really impress me anymore, especially considering how much advancement and innovation we have seen with Mario and Zelda, thanks to Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. I hope I will love Scarlet and Violet, but so far, they don’t seem very promising to me.
