Re: "We Absolutely Apologize" For Pokémon Performance Problems, Says Nintendo Of Canada Manager

Octane

@SpaceboyScreams But they don't. Pokémon is owned by TPC, and partially by Nintendo (trademarks and characters). Nintendo has stakes in Creatures and GF and shares equal stakes in TPC with Creatures and GF. But at the end of the day Nintendo own the largest amount. That being said, it doesn't mean that they're exercising their influence. TPC seems to be doing whatever it pleases, and as long as the Pokémon generates a $h&£-load of revenue they don't seem to care. TPC wants to crank out games and merchandise, cause anything Pokémon sells. And GameFreak are stuck making Pokémon games on a tight schedule because that's what brings in the most money. Their own published games haven't been amazing either, so they're probably not the greatest devs either, but it's clear that the tight schedule is a strain on Pokémon development. I don't expect the games to be amazing if they were given free reign, but I would expect them to be at least somewhat better.

@iLikeUrAttitude ''Either way whos responsible it's completely unacceptable that this game released in such an embarrassing state.''

The publisher, i.e. Nintendo and The Pokemon Company. If GameFreak is limited on time and budget, there's only so much they can do. Now I don't believe they are secretly amazing developers, but they're also not given the freedom to polish their games.

Re: Random: Careful! It Looks Like There's Another Softlock Super Mario Sunshine Glitch Out There

Octane

@Baker1000 It's not that glitchy IMO. You can play the game without encountering any major glitches at all. There's some weird issues sometimes that can occur with slopes and such, similar to Mario 64, but there were no major problems. And I've played and completed it more than a dozen times.

It's like a polished Mario 64. And you can glitch the game if you want to though. There are various glitches and exploits, but you kinda have to go out of your way to find them.

Re: Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund Raises Stake In Nintendo To 6%

@Thaswizz You say it like there is no issue, but when gay clubs are still a common target for mass shootings, and as long as certain demographics are still marginalised through various means, you cannot deny that there are still deeply rooted issues.

You can question the means, and whether (forced) diversity in media is a way to solve it. But at least there is a reason as to why it happens.

Re: PokéDoko Teases Special "World Premiere" Video To Celebrate 1,000+ Pokémon

Octane

@UmbreonsPapa The console doesn't matter. The DS could've handled 1000 Pokemon. That is not the issue. I'm positive the Switch can handle it.

The problem is that keeping up with the ever growing number of Pokemon is just not viable in the long term. What happens in 20 years from now? Do you expect them to include 2000 monsters in a single game? While yes, they re-use models a lot, the SV also had new models and new animations for Pokemon, so they do update them with every game.

They currently can't even develop a decent game. SV doesn't run well, even though BOTW proves the Switch is capable of more. The game is barebones with no interiors. The number of glitches is laughable, and the game even crashed on me nearly a dozen times. It's not a smooth experience at all. If they can't even do that, the last thing they should worry about it including another 600 monsters in the game.

Here's the kicker though, I absolutely believe they should be doing more, the national dex is just all the way at the bottom of the priority list. And Pokemon is the most profitable franchise ever, so it's not like they can't afford it. They somehow manage to sell millions with budget games. Maybe they should also focus on fewer games, but make them worthwhile when the come out. But they're somehow bound to this annual cycle.

And Pokemon HOME should be part of the Switch Online sub anyway, it's ridiculous that it's another subscription on top of the one that already exists for the Switch. And it's just cloud saves, Microsoft does it for free.

Re: Random: Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Lego Ideas Set Qualifies For Official Review

Octane

Aside from it being nominated as the least inspiring Zelda build ever, the old man and Bokoblin need to be mini-figs as well.

The beauty of, let's say LEGO Star Wars, is that most of the vaguely weird humanoid aliens are all made into mini-figs. And they are definitely more sturdy than these mini-builds.

I could see a Guardian set being plausible, as a way to test the waters, like they did with Horizon's Tallneck. But the first Zelda set isn't going to be some generic church. Yes, it's a cool 1-to-1 build of the in-game building, but not something you'd want to buy as an actual LEGO set.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Ranked Battle: Series 1 Gets Underway

Good to see Paradox and legendaries are banned for the coming two months. This will be fun season where the underused stuff shines.

@Luigi05 No, triple battles aren't in.

@Fizza You may want to use spoiler tags just in case people haven't encountered those/started playing. The game is barely two weeks out.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Teases Two New Pokémon In Latest Trailer

@Arawn93 Animal Crossing DOES have voice acting. It may be gibberish, but there are definitely voices, and it helps a ton with immersion. Now imagine if they removed that and all you had to look at was text.

I'd argue that a laidback game like AC could even be good without the voices, but Pokémon wants to do a lot of dynamic and impactful scenes, and without any sound it just feels empty and awkward.

Re: Liam Hemsworth To Replace Henry Cavill In Witcher's Netflix Series

Octane

@Brady1138 The question is what came first, the decision to do more Superman or the decision to quit The Witcher?

The Witcher series take quite a few creative liberties when it comes to the source material, and Henry Cavill is a big fan. I can also understand it if he wasn't feeling it anymore. I also read that he was the most knowledgeable person on the set regarding TW lore. Season 2 was a bit downhill in terms of overall story IMO, so I understand if he decides to jump ship before it crashes all the way.

Re: New Pokémon For Scarlet And Violet Revealed, And It's A Weird Little Fella

Octane

@Silly_G It's an entirely new concept. Like regional forms, except with a unique name and Pokedex number. The logic behind it being that the thing it is based is completely different from the original's concept. Mole vs garden eel, instead of the regional Meowth, which are all cats. So kinda like convergent evolution, but in the Pokemon world.

Re: Splatoon 3 Players Labelled "Cheaters" For Abusing Special Weapons

Octane

Tenta Missiles aren't fun anyway. There's no trade-off. You can hide at the spawn point and fire them all over the map with infinite range. It forces all opponents to move. It's kinda broken. Most other specials force the users into close combat, making it more of a risk to use, and also more fair as a result.

Re: Feature: The History Of Monolith Soft - From Baten Kaitos To Xenoblade And Zelda

Octane

@nhSnork Absolutely, but it's all in-house, so they're just as much Nintendo as their EPD studios. I expect there to be more interaction between Monolith Kyoto and EPD than with Tokyo, because they're housed in the same building.

But their studio structure makes it weird, because they're both Monolith Soft, but clearly two different teams.

@Fiskern That's an implication, right? But that's generally how game development work. You hire experienced people for specific tasks, especially if the team is unfamiliar with those.

Re: Feature: The History Of Monolith Soft - From Baten Kaitos To Xenoblade And Zelda

Copied from the other article:

"Keep in mind that they are two different studios. Monolith Soft Tokyo develops the Xenoblade games. Monolith Kyoto is located in the same building as the rest of Nintendo EPD and they are an assist team for EPD. So it's not the same people working on Xenoblade and Splatoon (and whatever other games they co-develop). Monolith Kyoto may as well be included in Nintendo EPD."

Their Kyoto office was opened in 2011 (4 years after the buyout), and is housed with the rest of Nintendo HQ. This studio was specifically made to assist Nintendo EAD with various projects, and houses completely different staff from the Xenoblade team.

I always chuckle a bit when people say it is evident that Monolith helped with e.g. BOTW, because their "open world experience" shows in thay game. But it's not the Xenoblade team that worked on BOTW. And since Nintendo owns both studios, it's not like they needed the Kyoto team to make use of any experience the Tokyo team had, if they even consulted them at all.

Re: Rumour: Nintendo Dataminers Think They've Uncovered A Splatoon World Map

Octane

@Tourtus Xenoblade is. Monolith Soft is just as much part of Nintendo as Retro Studios or EAD (or whatever it's called these days).

I'm not familiar with all the crossover stuff in Animal Crossing, but I willing to bet the reason why Xenoblade isn't featured in the game is the same reason as to why Fire Emblem isn't, or ARMS. Some crossovers just don't work, or maybe the devs prefer a specific franchise. That doesn't mean anything though. Nintendo fully owns Kirby and they can do whatever they want with the franchise.

Pokémon is another story, because it's co-owned by TPC and Nintendo.
