Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet Announced, Releasing Worldwide On Switch In "Late 2022"

@Troll_Decimator Doesn't the same logic apply to Pokemon then? It doesn't matter if Nintendo EAD had a head start compared to Gamefreak, what matters is if it's good or not.

Story-wise Pokemon already falls short (barebones animations, and hardly any complex story). In terms of gameplay they're ridiculously easy (unless you do post-game online battles). And because of their graphical shortcomings (and lack of VA), they're not that immersive as other games. But that's just my opinion.

@Troll_Decimator True, but Mario 64 was a launch game, and Nintendo's first proper 3D game. And I'd argue it still looks good (N64 standards) in comparison to other big titles such as Ocarina of Time.

This is Gamefreaks fourth proper 3D entry (fifth if you want to count Legends, and more if you want to count the remakes/reboots), and it still looks like they're just discovering 3D games. Even on Switch it's their fourth set of games.

@RubyCarbuncle That's an excuse I hear people saying whenever a trailer doesn't look good. Surprise, the end result won't look too far off from this. SWSH didn't do a 180 on its reveal trailer, and neither did Legends.

Either way, if it does, then this is just a terrible trailer. The game needs to be pretty much finished in a couple of months before they enter playtesting, bug fixing and production. So it's not like they have a lot of time left to improve it.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Is Already Being Streamed Online, And It's Not Even Out Yet

@JakedaArbok Well, they can't help it if stores are already selling it. Plenty of times a store breaks street date. Who's fault is that? The customer, or the store? I'm betting on the latter. Yeah, maybe don't stream the game, but you don't have to watch it either. And if people spread that news and spoil others, they are the problem, not necessarily the one person streaming it. If nobody shares it, you wouldn't know any better.

Re: Video: We Tried To Convince A PS5 Fanboy To Get The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack

@Fizza I have a PS5 since launch (yes I know I'm incredibly lucky), and I've only played 1 exclusive game, R&C (and Astro Bot), but in hindsight that isn't the main reason I own one. Going back to the PS4 feels very archaic. The DualSense and reduced load times are such a game changer. Games on PS4 are as slow as molasses in comparison. I bought it for exclusives, but I'm now more happy I got it for the QOL upgrade. And I was going to get one anyway, so there wasn't any point in waiting.

@JakedaArbok Even Miles Morales is just Spider-Man 2018 in a new coat of paint. Didn't think anything special of it TBH.

But agreed, there's hardly any original content in the top 10. It's just the same old stuff that was part of the top 10 a year ago. I mean, who TF is still buying GTA V? Same with Minecraft, everyone should own five copies at this point.

Re: Random: Nintendo Kart Is Trending On Social Media, Following Claims Of Mario Kart 9 Being "In Active Development"

Octane

'Nintendo Kart' is such a boring idea. Because 90+% of the current Mario roster is going to be shelved in favour of other popular franchises. At least now there's a stark difference between MK and Smash. Nintendo Kart is just Smash but racing instead.

The Mario franchise itself has enough characters to fill a roster on its own, so there's no reason to change that.

Even looking at the roster of MK8, it's missing characters such as Birdo, Captain Toad, Nabbit, Prof. E. Gadd, etc. They've recently also introduced a bunch of new characters with Mario Odyssey, albeit a bunch of boring rabbit clones, but the point is that there's enough variety without the rest of Nintendo's franchises.

Re: Niantic Shares Staggering Stats For A Year In Pokémon GO And Pikmin Bloom

Octane

@Kieroni Yeah, I agree, it isn't very rewarding. But you get something at least. And it also gives you additional fruits and seedlings, which also means more friendship points for your Pikmin when you send them to collect it. And it gives you a 10 to 30% bonus when growing seedlings. That's saving at least 3000 steps on a huge seedling.

But still. I can easily plant 1000+ flowers in a 10-15 minute walk. So even if I only did that once a week, I wouldn't be able to grow enough Pikmin to keep up with that number, let alone double it, like those stats show. I can only assume that the vast majority of people never plant flowers.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo's Game Awards No-Show Proves It Simply Doesn't Need Anyone Else

Whether you like it or not, it's an easy way to put your game in the spotlight with so many people watching and covering it. Even people that may not follow Nintendo news as closely. A Nintendo Direct is only going to reach the people interested in Nintendo gaming. Which doesn't have to be a bad thing, but these large events are great for coverage. TGA even moreso than E3 I'd argue, because even at E3 all companies do their own thing, so people mostly only watch the streams they're interested in.

Re: Here's Your First Look At The Switch Box Art For Kirby And The Forgotten Land

@anoyonmus The Last of Us Part II had a large open map that looks similar in aesthetic. Because it was the largest and most open map, it was also one of the more memorable moments from the game.

I personally think it's just that there aren't too many games that are post-apocalyptic, yet also lush and green. NieR also comes to mind, but generally most of the post-apocalyptic games are all dreary, ugly and brown.

And it two things are only remotely alike, people will compare them.

Re: Pokémon Legends: Arceus Won't Actually Be An Open-World Game

Octane

@mariomaster96 To be fair, @RupeeClock has a point. Even the shots they showed were very reminiscent of Breath of the Wild. And they must have known that. The entire trailer basically said ''open world Pokemon'' or ''BOTW but Pokemon'' without saying it. If you don't want your audience to think it's something that it isn't, you can easily solve that by showing some gameplay for example. If it was only 5 seconds of selecting a mission and teleporting to that area, everyone would understand it's not open world, but more like a MH game.

It's the same problem with 3D Kirby, which may actually not be as free-roam as people initially thought. It kinda looks like there are going to be a bunch of invisible barriers. Not too different from Kirby 64. 3D open space, but limited movement.
