Update [Tue 30th Aug, 2022 14:15 BST]: We've got a name! We thought we might have to wait a bit longer to find out more about these cryptic tweets. But The Pokémon Company has delivered a second batch of photos today, along with confirmation that these photos are indeed teasing a brand new Pokémon — and its name is Grafaiai.
So far, we only have a name and these strange markings to go on. But, if we were betting people, we'd say that it sounds like this Pokémon is a little bit fond of graffiti and that it's potentially an aye-aye — not Ai Ai from Super Monkey Ball, but a type of lemur. Grafaiai is a very fun name to say out loud, too. You can also just about see it (or its shadow) in the background of all three photos!
So, a spray painting lemur roaming the forests? We wonder what type or types it is and what it looks like. We suppose we'll have to wait and see — maybe later this week!
"Remember the markings we shared yesterday? Well, the Paldean photographer has confirmed that these were made by a Pokémon called Grafaiai!
As you can see, it’s quite difficult to catch in action.
He left us with the promise to have an exciting revelation soon!"
You can read our original story about yesterday's tweets below.
Original article [Mon 29th Aug, 2022 16:30 BST]: The Pokémon Company has shared a very interesting tweet today which seems to hint toward something new coming to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.
After the reveal of Cyclizar last week, we're always eagerly awaiting to see more brand new 'mons or any tidbits about the Paldea region. There's plenty we don't know about Generation IX, such as the other two story paths, the evil team, and so on, but the company dropped a teaser on the official Twitter account.
The tweet consists of four "photos" taken by a Pladean resident. Each photo is in what looks like a forest and has various multicoloured paint marks on either trees or rocks.
"Hey Trainers! We’ve managed to obtain these photos of some strange markings taken by a photographer from Paldea.
They seem to be getting a lot of attention from the region’s citizens…
Any guesses what they could mean?"
Many think these photos may be hinting at a new Pokémon, while others have noted that these paintings could be a reference to Oma forest, a work of art created by a Basque sculptor by the name of Agustin Ibarrola. One notable Pokémon this could relate to is Smeargle, a dog Pokémon that uses its tail to paint, so might we be getting a new form for this Generation II Pokémon?
Of course, we know nothing at this point. But this reminds us of the cool stunt The Pokémon Company pulled for Sword & Shield, where it posted a 24-hour of Glimwood Tangle, which ended in the reveal of Galarian Ponyta. Perhaps it's a sign that we're about to get a brand new 24-hour stream in this unusual painted forest?
What do you think these tweets are referring to? Give us your thoughts and theories in the comments!

My guess, as someone who's tried their best to not look at leaks? A new chameleon Pokemon or Paldean Smeargle.
I love these kinds of teaser reveals though, they're usually my favourite of any generation's reveal cycle (Sirfetch'd, Hisuian Zorua/Voltorb) so I'm always happy to see them come back.
Also, like you said yourself, that forest seems to be based off of the Oma Forest in Basque Country (aka Spain)!

Picture for reference.
I bet the game will have like...100 new pokemon.
I dont get why people get excited about a drip feed of new Mons. It's fine but I don't get it. OMG a Poison type Mon that climbs trees!!! Who would have ever known???
@Sonos How dare people get excited about something.
The Audacity!
Could be a relation to this trainer seen in the trailers. possibly the new evil team or something.

Clearly everyone is wrong and this for the brand-new jawbreaker Pokemon everyone has been waiting for
@Fiyaball Let's hope people don't starting sucking trees as a result.
@Sonos - You can say the same thing about how people were revealed in Smash Bros.
It gets people talking about the game, the longer the conversation, the broader market will think about it.
@Fizza too late... Tastes like bark, yum.
Yea, I'm guessing Paldean Smeargle. If Galar is anything to go by, Smeargle might get a new evolution
@Bobb I think Smeargle is a brilliant Pokemon myself (so much so that I'm currently Radar hunting it in BDSP), but with how unique it is as a Pokemon, you have to wonder how you give it....anything without making it busted. Even something as simple as changing it's type from Normal could make it absolutely ridiculous with added resistances and whatnot. That being said however, Smeargle is one of my favourite Normal types (when it's not being a.... female Smeargle in VGC) so any love given to it would be highly appreciated
Paldean Smeargle, evolves into Smeardali
@Eel If we wanted it to be in line with the Oma Forest, it could be called Ibarkola
reveal of paldean Smeargear?
Could be a Paldean Sudowoodo. Id rather have something all new tho.
....Are they going to do a 24-hour stream to reveal it?
This is going to be the "spray lemur" from the leak spreadsheet. Could be a possible smeargle alt.
Spreadsheet for reference: https://www.makio.it/pokemon/sv-dex/
@Jay99 You should use spoiler tags.
But it's not related to Smeargle.
I'm surprised no one is talking about the legendary quartet! There are at least (and for all we know; at most) four colored trees, which could represent the area where you encounter each of the legendary's kind of like what Sun and Moon did with the Tapus but instead of different islands there are different parts of a forest. Just a thought but it seems very reasonable to me.
That's an interesting name/silhouette. W-wait a minute...

WAIT A MINUTE I RECOGNISE THAT SILHOUETTE.
IS THIS A NEW AIPOM EVO???
EDIT: OR IS IT STILL SMEARGLE?

I DON'T KNOW ANYMORE.
The question is, when is "soon"? Hopefully not another day of waiting.
@Eel
Three diferent evolutions according to which set of abbilities you prefer: Smeardali, Smearcasso and Smeargoya.
A new Eeveelution or I'm not that bothered.
@Sonos I don't get comments like yours either but there you are. Funny old world isn't it.
A Graffiti Pokémon...? Sure, why not.
This one is a tough one to crack...
Dark type Smeargle?
On the one hand, I like aye ayes, otoh I will be irritated if it is a smeargle knock-off. No one likes one trick ponies Gamefreak.
@Fiyaball I have been waiting to hear that news all my life.
The pre-release period is finally becoming something special. More of this please
Watch it not be Smeargle but still have the move sketch to break the meta game.
It'll be Smeargle's rival, like Duraludon was to Tyranitar. Smeargle, being a proper painter, disapproves of this Mon's graffiti.
Waiting for a matador Mon to be revealed. It'll be Tauros' rival.
