@COVIDberry One could argue it's to the benefit of the franchise. When the fan games are better than the official stuff, it's not that weird. But here's the thing. If someone were to release a Sonic fan game, and SEGA wanted to sue them, they'd have a lot more difficulty in court when the opposition can show they've allowed it before.
@michellelynn0976 Depends on who you ask. I think Nintendo is absolutely in their right to shut fan-projects down for example. And they should if they want to maintain full control over their IP. If you allow one, you have to allow all of them.
@gaga64 It's not stopping them (see Wii U VC), but probably means that both parties need to sign some stuff to make it happen. But it has happened before with the VC release, so I wouldn't worry too much about that.
So it's just the music then. If Sony owns it, then it makes sense it's getting flagged. If you release a Mario playthrough and put a Beatles track over it, it will also get flagged. And yeah, I know the soundtrack is part of the game.
Nintendo should acquire the rights in that case. Otherwise all you can do is contact Sony and maybe they will make an exception to this track, though that obviously may also open floodgates they don't want to open.
@Orangezap89 How many active users are still buying stuff on the eShop regularly? I can't be many, so it wouldn't take much to top the best sellers either.
@Chamver Well, no. Let's say I wanted to play Fusion right now (and I do intend playing some again before Dread). Do I wipe off the dust of my old GBA that's only working half the time, or do I just buy a new copy on the Wii U eShop, which I can play off-screen and on the TV. Additionally, the image quality is way better compared to that old GBA screen. There are plenty of reasons to buy it again for a few bucks on the Wii U if you want to play through those games again.
Also, yes, they broke and NDA, but I think there's a difference in fining them with $5000 or $150.000. Might as well lock them up for live or put them on the street with that amount of debt.
@link3710 It's probably just the highest of the last 24 hours before that screenshot. Pokemon was already available for pre-order, probably? It wasn't at E3 for sure.
@Ralizah But then it's just a matter of perspective. If Metroid Prime 4 is $60, which takes considerably more resources to develop, shouldn't this be priced lower? Or maybe prices should fluctuate more. Metroid Dread $60, Metroid Prime 4 $100, FIFA 22 $10.
@Low_ink You are of course allowed to expect some kind of minimal play time. I think that's true for anyone. I wouldn't play 60 for something that only lasts 2-3 hours, no matter how good it is.
But eh, as long as it's in the 20-30 hour range, that's enough for me personally. Game quality is more important at that point.
But I do think that not every game a big publisher produces is automatically ''AAA''. But without a solid definition, it's really hard to determine what is a AAA game anyway. Is Dread one? I don't know. Its budget probably doesn't come close to Prime 4 or BOTW2.
Mind you, I haven't played their Metroid game on 3DS, so I don't know if that was up to standards with modern day big budget games (minus some graphical fidelity of course, it's a 3DS after all).
But as long as it's not too short, and is a very good game, it will probably be worth it. Though my preferred gameplay style is third person 3D, so that also plays a role. A game doesn't have to be a good game to every one. And I guess now I'm rambling.
The real reason why it's $60, because it's a Nintendo game, and that's what Nintendo does.
@Low_ink Plenty of open world games waste a player's time with trivial tasks just to increase the play length. I wouldn't equate game prices to game lengths, because so many games are artificially bloated these days.
The argument between 2D and 3D comes down to the fact that a 2D game like this one takes less resources to make than a 3D game. That's why a lot of '8-bit' indie games are just a couple of bucks, and not $60 these days.
Does it matter for Metroid? I don't know. I think Tropical Freeze was worth 60, because it was an incredibly good game. So if it's on that level, I'm in. But that's hard to determine without playing it first.
@Ralizah Metroid Prime 4 probably has a way bigger budget than Dread. Would you be okay if they charged $100 (which probably would still be relatively cheap if it was based on budget/work hours alone, compared to Dread).
@link3710 Yeah I wonder what the digital-physical split is for Japan. One argument I often hear is that they prefer handhelds because of the limited living space, so maybe they prefer digital as well. Over here it's mostly in favour of the disc version. But then there's probably also people who got the disc system and still bought it digitally.
@Dezzy There's 800,000 of them in the wild, 15,000 is still quite low, given the fact that it's one of the first big exclusives. Still, digital isn't being taking into account, but I don't think it's much higher.
@Heavyarms55 I'd rather have them do a separate ''Zelda'' game in that case. I'm personally not a big fan of switching characters in a game, especially in an adventure game. I was kinda glad when I learned that you'll only be playing as Star Lord in Guardians. Having Zelda as a companion character could work, but then the game really needs full on voice acting at all times, and dialogue between the two.
Can't wait for the Metroid Prime 4 reveal, and Samus' face reveal, so we can all complain about looks of a fictional character again. It's been a while.
@Heavyarms55 If they're doing a Direct, it helps if they announce it ahead of time. Yes, it's an announcement of an announcement, but people like watching it live. And it generally increases the view count as opposed to dropping it out of nowhere.
@Crockin It needs more than ''a little better'' to be fair. I really hope they delay it if they need to, rather than rush it out because TPC demands it. There's a lot of potential here, and it would be a shame if it ended up feeling like a rushed tech demo.
@Max_the_German I agree, but I'm not sure if it makes a huge difference in the end. Game attach rates haven't changed considerably since the 90s, despite the different environment. Software-hardware ratio is also comparable. Different times I agree, but it's not like Odyssey has sold considerably more or less than Mario 64 relatively speaking.

@Dezzy The PS5 sales are in the article:
PlayStation 5 – 15,648 (684,515)
PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 3,771 (135,284)
The number in between the parentheses are total sold. 684,515 + 135,284 = 819799 PS5s sold in Japan.
