@WiltonRoots That would be quite boring. I'm not here to tell what people can and cannot say. I just to make sure they don't break the community rules.
@WiltonRoots It doesn't prohibit me from being critical. I don't think it looks up to date with other 'new' games. And given that this is likely a $60 port, I have every reason to mandate it does.
Kinda surprised it took them this long to hit 2 mill. Got the DLC as part of the UE for free this month, so I may check it out, but it's a bummer that saves don't transfer from the regular edition to the UE.
@Rika_Yoshitake Sony only have revealed 2021 games so far. And if we assume God of War gets delayed to early 2022, it's not that bad really. There's a ton to look forward to, so it's a good strategy. With Nintendo there's nothing on the horizon, except Zelda and Metroid, and who know when they are ready.
If this is a standalone game, then why is it locked behind a 3D World purchase? Just make it available on its own.
Plenty of games have their multiplayer mode available standalone these days, but only in Nintendo land a game can be locked behind another game purchase...
@Hughesy Not entirely true. There's a reason even games like TW3 are broken up in several smaller maps. You can't all stitch them together as a single big map and expect everything to be working just fine. Size is a limiting factor, even if they only load smaller portions at a time.
@Hughesy (PC) games are scalable. This game is smaller than TW3. And just as sparse and barren as TW3, so I don't see why not. I'll still look and play awful though.
@NGNYS You can also use ray-tracing for sound for example, or AI. It can very much enhance gameplay. Horror games, any VR game would greatly benefit from ray tracing. It's not just pretty visuals.
It's only marketed as a visual thing, because that's the easiest to understand for people. It's difficult to market ray traced sound when you're watching it on your phone for example.
I don't understand the reaction. Nintendo cancelled the Splatoon livestream, right? It wasn't the Smash community.
I don't play a lot of Smash, so I'm not an expert, but I don't understand why Nintendo capitalises on Melee more. Apparently there is a thriving community that is willing to play a 20-year old game. They should embrace it. Thinking that it impact that current day business in any way is silly. It's just an incredibly easy way to please your fanbase. Now we've ended up with this ''Melee vs everyone else'' mentality, and people are blaming Melee fans for a cancelled Splatoon event.
By the way, tell your dad he can get PS Plus and PS Now combined for less than the price of GamePass Ultimate. It's worth a look, since it's more games for less money.
@nessisonett Until they start posting spoilers online. I've seen our local resident time traveler post spoilers about what's to come on here. It kinda does take the fun out of it, reading about it online instead of finding out yourself. Which wouldn't be a problem if this wasn't possible, because then everyone would find out at the same time.
Not surprising. I wasn't going to buy a 7-year-old game I already own for €60. If it had been a trilogy with the first two remastered it would be a no brainer. Or at a reduced price, €30 maybe. Oh well, I guess we'll have to wait another decade for Pikmin 4, and Nintendo will wonder why that one failed as well.
I've said it before, but take that art style, the one they're using for the comic, and remake Mother 1 and 2 (maybe 3?). The games are great in concept, but held back by a bunch of dated stuff.
@Clyde_Radcliffe Just lower the amount of enemies on screen in that case. I'd rather fight dozens of more skilled enemies, than a hundred of fodder that won't do damage anyway.
I guess they're stuck with the BOTW aesthetic, so they can't lower the in-game visuals and details.
Ouch. It's kinda excusable if it was one or the other, but sub 30fps while it can't even maintain 1080p, and frequently drops below 720 is gonna hurt. Bad optimisation, or is just the age of the Switch showing?
@NGNYS You have no idea what you're talking about. TW3 is empty and sparse compared to Control. I guess you haven't played it, but nearly every object in Control is moveable and destructible. You can literally shoot off the individual boards that make up a table. Try running Control on a PC, it's a LOT more demanding than a game like TW3, which is already five years old at this point.
@korosanbo Control's environments are a LOT denser. Nearly every object is moveable, and destructable. There's a ton on going at all times, and the game already runs at minimal specs on the vanilla PS4/Xbox, and it can't even keep a consistent frame rate. Not to mention, TW3 is four years older.
@Silly_G I think you can argue about the spines, it's not lazy vs effort. I personally like the more plain text, it makes it look cleaner and less cluttered. But at the same time it's not mandatory either. Many of my PS4 games have the same font, but some have their logo on the spine.
@Heavyarms55 Considering that Pokemon is the no.1 media franchise in term of revenue, I see no reason to be critical. This is not a small indie company trying their best. It's arguably the biggest gaming franchise, yet their games feel like a mediocre afterthought. The franchise deserves so much more, and there is so much more potential. Every new entry just feel like the bare minimum to keep the ball rolling and the money flowing. I would love it if Pokemon got the treatment BOTW got (not in terms of redesigning, but in terms of budget), or even half the budget a game like The Last of Us got. And it's possible. The games can be so much better, and it's disappointing they aren't. If you're not critical, things will never improve.
This isn't hatred. If anything, it shows how passionate people are about it.
Never got the chance to play Yokai Watch, I was hoping 4 would be localised so I could finally play one. Looks like that isn't going to happen anytime soon. That's a bummer...
So, the game can recognise the checkpoints and change their look according to the 'theme'. Wouldn't it have been possible to include a simple ''cardboard box'' you can place alongside the course that changed into a roadside hazard depending on the course. So a pipe with a piranha plant if you play the jungle theme, or a cannon shooting bullet bills if you play the castle/lava theme. IDK, something to add a little more variety to the gameplay.
@lighteningbolt79 It's either overpriced, or a lazy port for $60. It's not even a new game, so full price is already asking quite a lot for a 7 year old game. The improvements are minimal, the new "story" content are just repurposed challenge missions. Hardly comparable to the main campaign.
@sanderev Well, Tencent doesn't "own" Epic or Fortnite (yet). I think there are way more effective ways to oppose a potential WeChat ban; various sanctions are plausible for example. Taking Apple to court over a potential increased royalty share doesn't really make sense IMO. I wouldn't read too much into that. Things can happen without China's involvement
In the end Epic just wants a bigger slice of the pie. They want all the benefits of a platform, but they don't want to pay for it. They want access to Apple's userbase, they want Apple to host the games on their service and stores, they want access to their development kits; and then they try to circumvent their payment system by offering users to buy MTX outside of the Apple Store.
That's not how it works. You can argue for a better deal, but argue with Apple, don't use the gaming community as your patrons to fight a war; a war between two conglomerates that don't care about you, the end user, at all. I'm not a fan of Apple, but I don't see how they are in the wrong here.
Generally games tend to drop in price when the ''complete'' edition comes out with all the DLC bundled in, usually for the price of what the base game used to be, or less. But this is the Nintendo tax I guess. There's literally no point in buying this when the base game + DLC is probably cheaper at this point. I can currently find a copy of Sword/Shield for around €50 with ease.

@Friendly Rumours are saying that Sony is working on a Silent Hill reboot/revival. If true, don't expect it on Switch.
Kinda weird this article doesn't mention it, because it's setting a lot of people up for disappointment this way.
