Re: Random: Watch Out Next-Gen, Real-Time Ray Tracing Is Now On The SNES

@NGNYS You can also use ray-tracing for sound for example, or AI. It can very much enhance gameplay. Horror games, any VR game would greatly benefit from ray tracing. It's not just pretty visuals.

It's only marketed as a visual thing, because that's the easiest to understand for people. It's difficult to market ray traced sound when you're watching it on your phone for example.

Re: Nintendo Cancels Splatoon 2 NA Open Livestream, "Free Melee" Believed To Have Played A Part

Octane

I don't understand the reaction. Nintendo cancelled the Splatoon livestream, right? It wasn't the Smash community.

I don't play a lot of Smash, so I'm not an expert, but I don't understand why Nintendo capitalises on Melee more. Apparently there is a thriving community that is willing to play a 20-year old game. They should embrace it. Thinking that it impact that current day business in any way is silly. It's just an incredibly easy way to please your fanbase. Now we've ended up with this ''Melee vs everyone else'' mentality, and people are blaming Melee fans for a cancelled Splatoon event.

Backgrounds are an extension of the app you have selected. If you're hovering over Astro Bot, that's what the background becomes: https://e00-elmundo.uecdn.es/assets/multimedia/imagenes/2020/11/06/16046563050410.jpg

Only if you select the store you may see games you don't own, but that's really what the online store is for after all: https://bgr.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/PS5-UI.jpg?quality=70&strip=all

Re: New Restrictions Placed On Time Travel In Animal Crossing: New Horizons

@nessisonett Until they start posting spoilers online. I've seen our local resident time traveler post spoilers about what's to come on here. It kinda does take the fun out of it, reading about it online instead of finding out yourself. Which wouldn't be a problem if this wasn't possible, because then everyone would find out at the same time.

Re: Interview: "There Would Be No Control On Switch Without The Cloud," Says Remedy

Octane

@NGNYS You have no idea what you're talking about. TW3 is empty and sparse compared to Control. I guess you haven't played it, but nearly every object in Control is moveable and destructible. You can literally shoot off the individual boards that make up a table. Try running Control on a PC, it's a LOT more demanding than a game like TW3, which is already five years old at this point.

Re: Early Build Of Pokémon Sword Allegedly Leaked Online

@Heavyarms55 Considering that Pokemon is the no.1 media franchise in term of revenue, I see no reason to be critical. This is not a small indie company trying their best. It's arguably the biggest gaming franchise, yet their games feel like a mediocre afterthought. The franchise deserves so much more, and there is so much more potential. Every new entry just feel like the bare minimum to keep the ball rolling and the money flowing. I would love it if Pokemon got the treatment BOTW got (not in terms of redesigning, but in terms of budget), or even half the budget a game like The Last of Us got. And it's possible. The games can be so much better, and it's disappointing they aren't. If you're not critical, things will never improve.

This isn't hatred. If anything, it shows how passionate people are about it.

Re: Video: Here's A Look At All 24 Track Themes Available In Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit

So, the game can recognise the checkpoints and change their look according to the 'theme'. Wouldn't it have been possible to include a simple ''cardboard box'' you can place alongside the course that changed into a roadside hazard depending on the course. So a pipe with a piranha plant if you play the jungle theme, or a cannon shooting bullet bills if you play the castle/lava theme. IDK, something to add a little more variety to the gameplay.

Re: Epic's Apple Lawsuit Could Have "Significant And Serious Ramifications" For Platform Holders Like Nintendo

Octane

In the end Epic just wants a bigger slice of the pie. They want all the benefits of a platform, but they don't want to pay for it. They want access to Apple's userbase, they want Apple to host the games on their service and stores, they want access to their development kits; and then they try to circumvent their payment system by offering users to buy MTX outside of the Apple Store.

That's not how it works. You can argue for a better deal, but argue with Apple, don't use the gaming community as your patrons to fight a war; a war between two conglomerates that don't care about you, the end user, at all. I'm not a fan of Apple, but I don't see how they are in the wrong here.

Re: Looks Like Pokémon Sword And Shield's Physical DLC Bundle Will Cost $90

Octane

Generally games tend to drop in price when the ''complete'' edition comes out with all the DLC bundled in, usually for the price of what the base game used to be, or less. But this is the Nintendo tax I guess. There's literally no point in buying this when the base game + DLC is probably cheaper at this point. I can currently find a copy of Sword/Shield for around €50 with ease.
