Re: Retro Studios Scrapped An "Open-World" Idea For Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Octane

@Ron22 Exactly. 20 years ago Ocarina of Time was open world, but these it somehow doesn't count anymore. The general definition has shifted to large open sandbox games. OOT isn't too different from Jedi Fallen Order for really. But yeah, Metroid, in that regard, is already pretty much open world, using the broad definition. I think these days 3D Metroidvania is used, but they're the open world games from 20 years ago.

Re: A New Kirby Game Just Leaked On Nintendo Japan's Website

@KateGray I know it's probably better for traffic this way, but ideally this would've been hidden behind a spoiler tag. The way it is displayed on the front page kinda ruins the surprise for people just browsing the website. Just my two cents, but hopefully you can consider reporting on leaks in a different manner so close to their reveal.

Re: Feature: How Accessible Are Zelda, Pokémon And Animal Crossing For Blind Gamers?

Octane

@SmaggTheSmug The game already uses a listen mode to reveal enemies. I think they use an echolocation system so that even blind people can tell the location of enemies, along with various other auditory cues, like each weapon having a unique sound. Haven't really looked into it, but it's surprisingly effective. I know the game has a ton of accessibility options, something any dev should take note of.

Re: Monkey Ball And Yakuza Creator Is In Talks To Leave Sega For NetEase

@wanghosom It's not really xenophobia. These large Chinese gaming companies are owned by the Chinese government. The same government that locks up millions of Uyghurs, the same government that is erasing Tibetan culture, and is erasing free speech in Hong Kong. The government that is slowly buying itself into Africa and Asia by saddling countries up with huge debts. The government that is artificially creating island in the South China Sea to control seafaring in that area. The government that censors all kinds of critique, already influences the film industry and the gaming industry. No, I'd rather see them stay away from video gaming as far as possible.

If anyone should be accused of xenophobia, it's the dictator of West Taiwan, Chi Jing Pooh, himself.

Re: Fortnite's 'Rainbow Royale' Celebrates LGBTQ+ Community With Music And Rainbows

@PBandSmelly 99 percent of time when a company does it's for publicity. Slap a couple of rainbows on your product and call it a day. ''Look how good we are! Look how supportive we are! Now let's order some more stock from Uyghur camps.'' It's the same nonsense as when they stick a rainbow filter over their logo during pride month, but refuse to do it for their accounts in Russia, Egypt, Middle East, etc. It's all promotion and marketing.

Re: Switch OLED Upgrades Reportedly Cost Nintendo "Around $10 More Per Unit"

@pinta_vodki Nintendo has literally billions in cash reserves. They could've sustained the losses during the Wii U era, and they would've been fine for another 40 years. They don't "need" to cash in extra now to develop a new console. They make millions on their games as well, which are generally made on a smaller budget than the average AAA game. They've released dozens of ports with minimal effort for $60 (and one brilliant highlight from the Apple-Epic case is the revelation that an average port is a one or two man job for 6-12 months, so we can finally put a number on that as well), it's a fraction of the costs of developing a new game.

TLDR, you don't have to worry at all about Nintendo's finances, they have more, and earn more than you think. The only reason this price hike exists is because they know they can get away with it. People these days are used to pay premium for the bare minimum.
