Narratively I truly loved that they really didn’t care about any time travel logic.
Writers just said “make it happen, don’t think about it.” The story falls apart with like three seconds of consideration.
But I had a blast, it was a different tone and weird vibe for the Mushroom Kingdom, especially with the Toads all losing their “vim” in a grim way to aliens.
Have I played it again since my 20-years-ago play through? Absolutely not. But I still recommend it for a fun weird, mind numbing romp.
@AnnoyingFrenzy As much as I am a Daisy fan, I’d be content and smile at a “HI IM DAISY” cameo similar to the goofy Diddy Kong joke from the first movie.
She’s great but to do her justice I’d whine for a whole Sarasaland miniseries on Peacock like they did with Knuckles or something.
@AndreyBoarao they’re pretty different characters in the games, and we have only seen a few seconds of Rosalina in the films.
In the games Peach just gets captured and fawns over things curiously and cutely for the most part, while in the movie they gave her a lot more agency that wasn’t as easy to convey with the games starring Mario.
In the games Rosalina isn’t a damsel, is in charge of her space and gives you shelter for the most part, and feels closer to how Peach is portrayed in the film as wanting to protect her helpless people. Peach’s movie personality definitely took some inspo from Rosalina in that regard just because the narrative needed it to.
But, aside from “girl” they aren’t the same any more than the two guys with mustaches and overalls. Peach definitely couldn’t defend her castle the way Rosalina did in her few seconds of screen time. 🌟
Thank goodness they showcased immediately that Rosalina is not someone you mess with. When he called her a princess and tried to intimidate her I had a half-second of worry, and she immediately reminded us she’s a boss.
@Sindayl To be fair, the only thing that’s really interesting with the voices is the offline GP rival interactions which are a very minimal part of most people’s experience with the game.
Even when I was playing the GP mode I found myself irritated because I didn’t want to always swap my racer out to hear a lot of different ones, and although there are a few deep cut references here and there, there are a ton of super boring mute interactions too.
The majority of the game’s voices are your character’s clips being constantly cut off with “ye-aweso-yea-jammin!!” as they do flips throughout the races.
So far the sound effects for the characters who use them have been absolutely sufficient for me, for what it’s worth to anyone on the fence. To be honest, I really wouldn’t want to hear Spongbob’s voice all the time while racing anyway.
Nintendo really doesn’t understand that people repurchased the Wii U games for Switch for a much different reason than someone would (wouldn’t) do the same for a Switch game upgraded for Switch 2.
This is so weird. They are treating this phenomenon as if it were the Wii U to the Switch when the games (not the consoles necessarily) are akin to the 3DS and N3DS.
I will be so surprised if this actually works out for them, but if it does, more power to them.
This game has been such a blast, I know some people are having a fit about voices, but it hasn’t bothered me in the least.
The crossovers are neat even if I don’t really care about Minecraft or Avatar, and I’m stoked to see the new stages for each IP.
I’m still most excited for all the monthly sega characters on the way. Rumor has it NIGHTS is coming in January, who is all I want.
And it also looks like we get a festival event every time a character drops, so that’s another thing to be excited for. But that makes me realize, I wonder if there will be reruns for the Switch 2 players because it got delayed?
We’ve been playing this since Monday night when the pre order release came out and it’s been so fun.
I don’t remember the last kart game that wasn’t Mario kart that really impressed me like this one. It’s simple, but pretty engaging. I normally hate stat changing items but the gadget system makes it really unique and it’s very user-friendly, and you always feel like you’re getting something for playing.
There are a ton of characters in the base game, and more Sega characters and karts coming for free. The dlc pack, we decided to get mainly because it came with new tracks as well, the characters are a bonus even if I don’t know all of them.
It’s been a while since there’s been a pick up and play game I can really recommend, and it’s this one!
I know a lot of people are wishing their favorite obscure characters like Bark or Tails Doll are in the game, but I feel like that’s being unfair to this generation’s game developers. Being upset your “most people don’t know this reference” character didn’t get in has to stop being held against games. Just because Daisy finally got into a platformer doesn’t mean Uncle Chuck from the 90s Sonic cartoon is gonna get into this game, lol.
No, I have Galaxy 1 on my Switch 1 and Galaxy 2 on my Wii U. I don’t think I’m going to transfer my Switch 1 stuff the more time goes by, it’s looking more and more like a legacy system that I keep and hope Nintendo doesn’t force an update to take my digital games away one day.
@Sonicka you’re right, it was never announced for Switch 1, so when I saw it being played on a Switch 1 during a presentation primarily meant for announcing things I got excited.
Knowing it can play on Switch 1, and while streaming at that, but isn’t available “just because” still feels scummy. No way around that feeling for me.
I really think for the price they are charging for these attachments, they can afford to have someone make the games playable on a TV in a “modified experience that may not match the original game’s intended playstyle”
If I can watch a whole YouTube series on some of these games and get the gist of how they played, they can figure out how to let me play them without charging me 30-100 extra on top of my subscription.
Because if this is required to play, then no, this doesn’t feel like it’s “included with my subscription.” It feels like I have to buy something and pay another fee to use it until they decide to stop providing the service.
This is the opposite idea of the optional retro controllers they offer, as I know I don’t have to have them to access my subscription content I pay for. They add to the experience, they don’t allow for it.
In the old days at least the cardboard one would be available to buy with platinum coins.
Can we all just remember those of us who defended the price tag of 12USD because “it’s essentially reusable DLC” or “it gives gameplay value” and now they’ve increased so much in price, while the gameplay functions have gone down just as much in many cases?
Sure, these figures actually have the classic use of the Smash FP’s, but they are nearly four times the price of those, and for a racer FP versus a trainable sparring partner, it’s clearly not the same thing.
I didn’t understand the Direct’s implication either, will there be more of these types of amiibo or just new updates to them down the line?
When he hyped up the added extra pages in the game, then immediately said they are making a physical book but not won’t have the aforementioned hyped up pages, I could literally hear the ball being dropped.
I am trying to figure out how much of it is rose tinted glasses, but I swear Nintendo used to put more care and attention into little details like that.
Seems they are pumping stuff out so fast and not putting in that extra mile of effort that Nintendo was always known for doing when they didn’t ever have to.
But like I said, maybe I’m just remembering incorrectly with too much nostalgia.
This was the part of the direct I got stoked for, and even more so when they showed the game playing on a Switch 1.
Then I googled and found out that despite the game being playable on Switch 1, I can’t play it on my Switch 1 unless I own a Switch 2?
I’m really upset about that. Maybe there’s a good reason (aside from the standard “you can fight 50 enemies more at a time” in a game where you’re mindlessly mowing down hundreds of enemies every round), but that was such a gut punch.
@X68000 I am also very surprised that for that price they didn’t include a controller. I get the molding and all is pricey but this is a product that is useless without a subscription and will become useless when the service inevitably ends.
And that’s not even considering the ludicrously small games library and mediocre quality of said games.
Nintendo is really being shameless with the whole “hey remember this product that absolutely failed for good reason but became a meme for the hardcore fans? Let’s capitalize on that for our benefit exclusively”
They’re a business, absolutely, but the anti-consumer practices have been more and more rampant as the years pass. As I tend to say, I hope it works for them because I don’t want Nintendo to go under, but lately I’m seeing more pandering-for-profit stuff like this as well as rehashes of things we already played, and less and less new, “Nintendo magic” games and ideas.
I just can’t get excited about buying the same things over and over anymore.
I really thought after the Wii U / Switch era we were done with the constant “slightly better” editions on the follow-up console, and with how the Wii U was received that at least made sense.
I hope it works out for Nintendo and I’m proven wrong.
@deecas @dimey I felt really crazy when I played a demo of MKW in store and… just couldn’t wait for it to end. I didn’t get the hype at all, and it may be amazing at home but it’s the first Mario kart that a single race demo wasn’t actually a blast. Like, when I picked it up I was thinking “aw man, I’m about to have to buy a switch 2 after this, I know it!”
In the car on the way home I fired up MK tour, and got back into 8 so I know I haven’t outgrown my love for the franchise. Something about MKW’s demo was just missing that wow factor.
Honestly, we are still waiting for that “spark” to upgrade. In our house the selling points seem to just be Donkey Kong and “you can pay to replay the games you already played to death with better performance,” which surprisingly hasn’t pushed us over the edge yet!
I’m looking forward to what Nintendo cooks up but the longer it gets from the release date, as an outsider looking in with my Switch 1, it really feels like a “New Nintendo 3DS” moment rather than an actual new console.
I know that’s not the case, but I just wish they’d offer some more reasons for us to make the hop to 2.
(And by the time more games come out, we also predict there will be a Switch2.1 or “New Switch 2” knowing Nintendo’s track record for console revisions, so there’s also that).
@JohnnyC not the right console for me to bring it up I know, but how about those info cards that a handful of Nintendo 64 games came with? They were super cute! I honestly don’t know if other regions got them other than NA, but they felt like their purpose was to help people transition to 3d gaming that were liable to toss out the instructions entirely lol.
I don’t know if it needs to be on the Super Nintendo app or the gameboy app, but I would love super gameboy-enhanced games to have their full potential again.
When they put on Fire emblem fates I’ll never have to change the app again, especially if they have Shigure’s version of lost in thoughts.
I really wish they’d hurry and put on Shadows of Valentia. I started a new job when that game came out and happened to listen to that special edition cd on the drive in back then, and now starting a new job again (same career new location) it’d be a perfect throwback to have that playlist again hehe. (New car has no cd player)
Seeing the requests for remakes of Awakening, Fates, and what should be Shadows as well, reminds me just how many FE games Nintendo is sitting on that they could be remastering.
Sure, it’s not Final Fantasy and no one wants that oversaturation of re-releases, but Nintendo is really underutilizing that back catalogue. I thought when they made Shadows of Valentia is was a sign they were going to revive older ones but it must not have been successful enough.
I wonder if the performance on Switch 1 is going to be super downgraded like the first one compared to other consoles. I really hope they were able to optimize it a bit better this time.
Edit: never mind me, I just realized it’s not even coming to switch 1… sigh.
Fortnite makes content with current, popular things, and people say it’s too kid-targeted. They utilize nostalgic millennial iconic collaborations and now it’s a dead game.
Fortnite really can’t win except when it comes to money, eh?
I’m excited for it, and just go with the flow. Some seasons are for me and some aren’t. It’s not the kind of game that’s always “for me” and that’s okay, because it’s just always changing. Because when it’s “for me” too many seasons in a row, guess what I complain about? Too much stuff to do and not enough time of course, lol.
I’m still loving how fresh and varied Fortnite keeps things. There really is something for everyone.
It was always going to be a purchase for me (on both Switch and Xbox) but I’m so glad to see Mythologies actually made the cut. I always had to play the n64 version growing up so I didn’t get to see the cut scenes in their full glory.
Say what you will about how awful the game is (it is) but it gave the most lore and world-building to the series at that point.
You know, in that middling period where MK was actually toying with a real story and not resetting the timelines over and over with characters being aware of the timelines being reset over and over lol.
I’m expecting the next game’s story to up the stakes even more, and have Liu Kang actually ascend to the writer’s room and start coding the actual game itself.
Recently got a Wii U, and have been pleasantly surprised at the amount of games I am just not needing the pro for. Worst case, I use the absolutely superior Classic controller pro (the wiimote attachment).
Charity is great, but is GameStop actually donating anything? They’re just giving someone else’s money, right? Are they matching any of the funds raised? Or just enjoying the PR of someone else making a charitable contribution on their behalf to capitalize on their viral mishap? (And of course, claim that charitable contribution come tax season)
Still feeling good about waiting for the “New Switch Too” or “Switch 2 New” or “Switch 2.5”
Nintendo got me to purchase way too many upgrades and variants of consoles, especially the 3DS, in the past, for me to feel confident buying them at launch anymore.
I’m really excited for when I do get one! It looks really fun and I’m seeing great things. And if battery life is something people are complaining about now, it just means when I get mine it might have a slightly improved battery life!
I’ve been whining forever about it, I have been wanting to buy a Wii U console and the game specifically for WWHD. the improvements are worth it and I have no desire to replay the GCN version. Played it when I was young.
I don’t have to prove anything and play a harder triforce quest to be hardcore, when there is a better game available.
I really have been hoping for a WWHD on the Switch 1 honestly, and was bummed when Skyward Sword was announced and took the wind out of my sails for that possibility months back.
Maybe I’m crazy but I think I may hold out for a special edition console or an upgraded model. I’ve had a gray launch switch, Animal Crossing “second model with better battery switch”, and Zelda OLED switch.
It’s my fault of course, but I think I’ve realized I don’t need to rush to buy these things when they make nicer, prettier or better ones so soon after.
I just turned on Donkey Kong 94 and for a split second I was like oh man they used the Super GB pallete and got sooo excited.
They didn’t.
But it makes me really hope someone in Japan at Nintendo is reading this.
We really have no reason not to have the Super Gameboy palettes AND the borders for games like DK94, Donkey Kong Land and more.
For me, Donkey Kong 94 was never a gameboy game it was always a Super Nintendo game we played at sleep overs on the super game boy. That’s how I beat it even!
I think it’s finally time to go the “Classic Sonic” route and just have “Classic DK” and DK co-exist. Call him Retro DK, let’s be honest Nintendo doesn’t want to try to figure out how to handle DK Jr at this point.
@LexKitteh yep, I totally see Nintendo not viewing it as worth the trouble in 2025. Best I hope for is a digital only remaster release with the doc Louis feature added in, released under the radar lol. But with the amount of time people invest in online complaining I could see Nintendo writing it off as not worth the bad PR.
Am I crazy for wanting a crossover game? I feel like Nintendo has two franchises they are sitting on with two rabid fan bases, they may as well just moosh them together and make a decent crossover somehow.
I know it’s not perfect but I worry we aren’t getting Punch Out or Arms anytime soon if neither are announced as a launch title for Switch 2. But hopefully I’m just a negative Nancy and proven wrong!
I have still never forgiven the import shop I got my Mother 1+2 (or was it 3?) GBA game from for not giving me the vacuum sealed Mr Saturn Plush. They just sold them instead of giving with pre orders.

Re: Super Mario Galaxy Movie Trailer Reveals Rosalina, Bowser Jr., And More
Thank goodness they showcased immediately that Rosalina is not someone you mess with. When he called her a princess and tried to intimidate her I had a half-second of worry, and she immediately reminded us she’s a boss.
Re: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Is Getting Another Free Guest Character Next Week

Re: Opinion: We Need To Talk About X Games
Representing the Kingdom Hearts fandom, I believe you meant to pronounce it χ [chi].
Man, going to the keyblade graveyard to reveal the χ-blade was a wild time. Nomura was totally trolling.
Re: Rare Arcade Version Joins Two Of The Worst 'Mortal Kombat' Games In Legacy Kollection
Re: Pokémon Legends: Z-A Lands Another New Mega Evolution
Is it still canon that most Mega pokemon are in pain/not enjoying their temporary mega forms?
And can we take a moment to reflect on how hilarious it would have been to have mega Victreebel in the anime with Team Rocket back in the day?
screams in Victreebel
Re: Around 1 In 3 Switch 2 Owners Bought New Pro Controller Despite High Price Point (US)
Recently got a Wii U, and have been pleasantly surprised at the amount of games I am just not needing the pro for. Worst case, I use the absolutely superior Classic controller pro (the wiimote attachment).
Re: GameStop Is Auctioning Off Its Infamous Switch 2 Stapler For Charity
Charity is great, but is GameStop actually donating anything? They’re just giving someone else’s money, right? Are they matching any of the funds raised? Or just enjoying the PR of someone else making a charitable contribution on their behalf to capitalize on their viral mishap? (And of course, claim that charitable contribution come tax season)
Re: Pauline's Age In Donkey Kong Bananza Has Been Revealed
Has anyone checked on Hyle from dkvine? I swear I heard him screaming in the distance as I learning about the lore implications this game is giving.
Re: Poll: Switch 2 Battery Reportedly Lasting Under Two Hours With Mario Kart - How Is Yours Holding Up?
Still feeling good about waiting for the “New Switch Too” or “Switch 2 New” or “Switch 2.5”
Nintendo got me to purchase way too many upgrades and variants of consoles, especially the 3DS, in the past, for me to feel confident buying them at launch anymore.
I’m really excited for when I do get one! It looks really fun and I’m seeing great things. And if battery life is something people are complaining about now, it just means when I get mine it might have a slightly improved battery life!
Re: Talking Point: Zelda: Wind Waker Is On Switch 2 - Do You Still Want A WW:HD Port?
I’ve been whining forever about it, I have been wanting to buy a Wii U console and the game specifically for WWHD. the improvements are worth it and I have no desire to replay the GCN version. Played it when I was young.
I don’t have to prove anything and play a harder triforce quest to be hardcore, when there is a better game available.
I really have been hoping for a WWHD on the Switch 1 honestly, and was bummed when Skyward Sword was announced and took the wind out of my sails for that possibility months back.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Priced At $449.99 For The Base Console
Maybe I’m crazy but I think I may hold out for a special edition console or an upgraded model. I’ve had a gray launch switch, Animal Crossing “second model with better battery switch”, and Zelda OLED switch.
It’s my fault of course, but I think I’ve realized I don’t need to rush to buy these things when they make nicer, prettier or better ones so soon after.
Re: GameCube Games Confirmed For Nintendo Switch Online On Switch 2
@Kazman2007 I guess this confirms I am renewing my goal to buy a Wii U and WWHD…. Argh.
Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's Game Boy Library With Two More Titles
I just turned on Donkey Kong 94 and for a split second I was like oh man they used the Super GB pallete and got sooo excited.
They didn’t.
But it makes me really hope someone in Japan at Nintendo is reading this.
We really have no reason not to have the Super Gameboy palettes AND the borders for games like DK94, Donkey Kong Land and more.
For me, Donkey Kong 94 was never a gameboy game it was always a Super Nintendo game we played at sleep overs on the super game boy. That’s how I beat it even!
Really wish we could bring that back somehow.
Re: 'Sonic Jam' Skin Is Now Free For All Owners Of Sonic X Shadow Generations
Okay, now do Modern Amy in Superstars.
Cause I was actually supposed to get that code and I’m still refreshing my inbox looking for it lol.
Re: Nintendo Switch 2: Everything We Know About Nintendo's Next Console
How am I going to charge my NES controllers
Re: Poll: What Do You Think Of Donkey Kong's Redesign In Mario Kart 9?
I think it’s finally time to go the “Classic Sonic” route and just have “Classic DK” and DK co-exist. Call him Retro DK, let’s be honest Nintendo doesn’t want to try to figure out how to handle DK Jr at this point.
Re: Nintendo's Punch-Out!! Series May Be Dead And Buried For Good
@LexKitteh yep, I totally see Nintendo not viewing it as worth the trouble in 2025. Best I hope for is a digital only remaster release with the doc Louis feature added in, released under the radar lol. But with the amount of time people invest in online complaining I could see Nintendo writing it off as not worth the bad PR.
Re: Nintendo's Punch-Out!! Series May Be Dead And Buried For Good
@slowpoke_tail
Re: We're Really Jealous Of Japan's Incredible New Pokémon Gold & Silver Merch
Everything is awesome but that Lugia Plush. The silver just looks grey and makes it seem like old man Lugia.
Would also have loved a Slowpoke Tail reference.
Re: EarthBound 30th Anniversary Merch Will Include A Giant Mr Saturn Plushie
I have still never forgiven the import shop I got my Mother 1+2 (or was it 3?) GBA game from for not giving me the vacuum sealed Mr Saturn Plush. They just sold them instead of giving with pre orders.
Re: 'Nintendo Music' Will Add More Tracks Over Time, Here's What's Been Revealed So Far
Really enjoying it. Don’t mind the slow releases. Gives me time to go through what’s there and curate my collection without feeling overwhelmed.
And for those who hate it, you’re right, you can use YouTube or other apps. So do that and let others enjoy what we are enjoying. ❤️
Re: 'Nintendo Music' Update Adds Super Mario Bros. Wonder Songs
So who spent most of the day with the corresponding animal crossing “hour song” in their headphones!!!!???
