Yoshi's Story - Box Art Brawl

It's the weekend and that means it's time for another edition of Box Art Brawl.

Before we head into this week's dino duel, let us first recap what happened last time. In celebration of its 30-year anniversary, we looked at the Gotham-set beat 'em up Batman Returns on the SNES, pitting the EU/NA and Japanese covers against each other. Simply put, it wasn't even close. Japan's comic-inspired cover art walked away with a massive 76% of the vote, while the EU's more movie-accurate approach only got 26% — bad luck, Batman.

This time, we're jumping from DC to dinosaur as we match up two different covers for the Nintendo 64's Yoshi's Story. The game is celebrating its 25 anniversary here in Europe next week, so we thought that this would be a good time to look back on the spin-off side-scroller before we all go Zelda mad over the coming days.

The covers in Europe and North America were much the same this time around, so we have only got two different entries to choose from. Let the duel commence!

Be sure to cast your votes in the poll below; but first, let's check out the box art designs themselves.

Now this is the cover that a lot of people are going to remember when you think of Yoshi's Story. It's bright, it's colourful, it's got those uber-smooth 3D sprites on the front — what's not to like? All those Yoshis (and the guest appearance from Shy Guy) give you a pretty good idea of the tone that this game is going to strike without actually showing anything specific — neat.

Once again, the Japanese cover goes for something completely different. It's still bright, colourful and adorned with multiple Yoshis, but it has a crafted feel in its embroidery aesthetic that's not a million miles away from the hand-made look that has been so important to the likes of Yoshi's Woolly / Crafted World. True, the outline embroidery might make the dinos look a little spikier than usual, but we'd say it's pretty eye-catching all the same.

Which region got the best Yoshi's Story box art?

Thanks for voting! We'll see you next time for another round of Box Art Brawl.
