Exciting times are ahead for Splatoon fans, with its next big update coming on 6th August. It'll include a whole load of new outfits, new 'Slosher' weapons, a new level cap (50), Squad Battles and also Private Battles.
Plenty to come, then, though a new music track is also on the way. Posted on the Splatoon Twitter account and subsequently on other social pages for the game, the video below shows off a new track that's due on 6th August - the fictional band is 'Hightide Era', with the song being called 'Hooked'.
It's a pretty funky tune, and for our money it's the piano that makes all the difference.
Are you feeling it with this track?
With thanks to Benson for the heads up.

hope there will be even more music than this one.
Sounds like an awesome companion for me trampling bad guys with my new ink minigun.
Is that KK Slider?....
Great. I was getting kind of tired of the current music.
So my TV is actually a PC monitor with HDMI. Therefore doesn't have speakers. It frustrates me on most games I can only get music and full sounds on gamepad when I play in modes that just duplicate TV on Gamepad. Splatoon is not one of those games, so I play mostly to my own music, but be nice if Nintendo put in an option.
More reggae/dub please!
Wait, there's a Splatoon Twitter account (checks link), oh that explains it.
I like it, hope they include it in Squid Beatz as well.
@JamesCoote That sucks. I'm the other way around. My HDTV is my computer monitor with HDMI hookup. I just switch between my PC and Wii U with the source button on my remote. Sound works perfect on both.
I guess you can say I'm "Hooked" by this new song.
@abbyhitter Yeah, that's what I should have done instead, but at the time I wasn't thinking about sound, just about resolution and price. Oh well
@JamesCoote Plug headphones into the Gamepad and listen through those
@JamesCoote There is an option in Wii U sound settings where you can hook up a regular Wii A/V cable to output sound to. If you don't have one you can order them through the Nintendo store website.
It's a pretty funky song, but the 'vocals' aren't really my thing. Doesn't really compare to the Squid Sisters, does it? At least the backing music's awesome!
@JamesCoote I agree! When I go over to a friend's house to play Splatoon, I have to put headphones in to get the on-TV sounds (or plug speakers into the gamepad itself). It works fine, but I wish there was a way just to output out of the gamepad instead of plugging wires into the pad.
FWIW, the Splatoon experience is very much designed for surround sound, not headphones or stereo sound output.
Kinda sounds like the Final Boss music a bit.
@the-madprofessor @andrewccal Could have sworn I'd tried that! In any case, if that doesn't work, will give @Tman 's suggestion a go as fairly certain I've got one of those adapters kicking around
Nice. Will we see Hightide Era on Inkopolis News now?
Wow. The music direction for this game has been phenomenal. This fits in and is as instantly infectious as most of the other tunes. Who actually does all these tunes? Do we have a new Hip Tanaka of sorts or is this a wider effort? Getting curious.
@Aromaiden I can never, never, EVER get titled of the current music. At least, not for a long time.
If there's a new band... anyone else think there will be Splatoon single player DLC soon?
@JamesCoote Does your monitor have an audio out port? If yes, why not buy speakers? I think that should work.
Would be nice if they made more use of the amiibo and scroll weapons.
Sounds good!
@TomServo_89 Yes.
@Spoony_Tech Can I complain about the US date being Aug 5th now?
Please, even MORE!!!!!!!!!! YEEEEE!!! This game has awesome unique music, they should make a few more songs and release an official sound track. They need to release an official sound track for DKC: TF, too, lol.
@rjejr
Yes, you can complain, that is like the only thing you do here anyway
@sinalefa @rjejr What he said lol. Have at it, it's all yours.
@Spoony_Tech @sinalefa - You guys are killing me.
@rjejr That's a good thing right like bad is good?
They really are keeping everything fresh
Great! Since my YouTube channel is all about turning Splatoon music into 8-bit retro music, I was getting worried that I would run out of music to work on way too soon. I mean, I'll eventually move on to other games, but I can't get enough of Splatoon right now
Cool, it's nice to have even more variety of music in the game. They've done a good in making the soundtrack for this game.
Nice bout time, need more music period change up the menu and lobby music too while your at it. New designs would be nice. I also think it would be cool to look at the players in the lobbies outfits and perks. Im down for this, ready to lay some peeps out with that piano riff !
@JamesCoote If you have an old TV you can use composite.
@TomServo_89 Now that would be an awesome cameo from another franchise. =)
@JamesCoote
Just plug in headphones in the gamepad. you'll have full sound there.
@Spoony_Tech Yes it's a good thing, Sin is always cracking me up. Not that you care you big meanie
Love it
Now I have that music stuck in my head...
I like it how Hightide Era actually describes the timeline splatoon is in.
@TomServo_89 I also instantly thought that Totakeke was the vocalist.
@JamesCoote Get the Wii/WiiU composit/component cable. It has Right and Left audio output. Connect it to some regular Speakers and check the "Play music in HDMI and AV" option in WiiU settings. Enjoy the music!
Is this going to be the only song though?
More music is much needed and that makes this update even more serious. Splatoon is seriously growing into one of my favorite games of all time.
@JamesCoote do you have headphones? I can only seem to get splatoons full sound effects on my pad VIA plugging headphones in and doing that... (or ear buds, which Is what I use but w/e)
K.K. Calamari.
