My Nintendo account holders in North America can currently get their hands a free seven-day trial of Nintendo Switch Online.
The offer is live from now until 30th April on the My Nintendo website. To claim the reward, you'll need to hand over 100 Platinum Points (which can easily be amassed at no cost by visiting the site each week or completing online 'missions').
Experience a Nintendo Switch Online 7 Day Trial membership with this reward. My Nintendo members can use this reward even if they've already redeemed the Nintendo Switch Online free 7-day trial from Nintendo eShop!
It's worth noting that the trial can't be used on a Nintendo Account which already has an active Individual or Family membership, so this is designed for those who aren't currently subscribed. The trial will also automatically convert into a monthly membership once it's over, so make sure to turn off any automatic renewal settings before the end of the trial.
The code you'll receive will be valid until 7th May 2020, so make sure to use it by then.
Do you have a subscription to Nintendo Switch Online? Are you tempted to give it a go with this free trial? Tell us below.
Thanks to @AmiiboMD for the tip!

For once, I could make use of it here, too - my sub is ending exactly one day before the payday. But oh well.
Well, there are worse uses for Platinum coins....Maybe I'll finally bite and get a NSO sub. Maybe.
I know this is common practice these days, but I still dislike how many services automatically start charging you once the free trial period is up. I feel like the auto payment should be an option the user manually selects beforehand vs. going through all the motions later...or getting slammed with a surprise charge when the free period is up.
@Tyranexx Surprise! You can cancel auto-subscription from the Account Settings. I did that a year ago.
@Tyranexx Nintendo is very open about the Auto-Renewal Cancelation feature. Even before you sign up they strongly advise that you turn off Auto-renewal if you don't wish for it to be active.
Wich means, of course, I can't claim it because I don't have a credit card nor paypal account.
Brilliant move, this was needed.
@dakuww You don't need those if your store sell gift card. I got mine ( finally ) using store bought NSO gift card. And I check off the Auto-Renewal once I sign up.
( edit: oh wait, not sure free trail you need those payment info to sign up thou.... )
Why can't anything be free for those that don't have money, nor don't want the exclusive stuff? I miss my Nintendo Switch now every time I see an 'system update'. I don't think I can buy one with the only stimulus check we get later on?
@patbacknitro18, @Azooooz Glad to know Nintendo is more open about it than some businesses. I'm a newer Switch owner and admittedly haven't looked much into the service yet as the backups are the only thing to really draw me in right now, since I'm playing longer games these days.
I had assumed by some wording in the article that I would have to go through some roundabout way to cancel the auto-renewal like with some other services I've dealt with; I've avoided full charges so far when they weren't wanted, but there have been a couple of close shaves. I'm very happy that doesn't seem to be the case here.
I got this about a week ago, also claimed 1 in March. So, you can only claim it once each month but then you can trade in your 100 platinum coins each month to get it again.
I got it for ACNH. Nobody ever came to visit and I never made a visit. You also can't get a couple of items for ACNH that require a paid subscription. Tetris and the S/NES games work though.
We've had this option for ages. I dunno why they feel the need to treat a 7 day free trial like a reward. The service itself is barely worth it at 25 a year, equal to about fifty cents a week give or take.
anyone know the number of subscriptions?
Cool but I still got that free year I got through that Amazon Twitch deal, probably the only good use I got out of Twitch.
@rjejr If you get it again let me know and we can visit each other.
@Spoony_Tech Thanks. I'll let ya know when it goes live next month.
@rjejr
I've had quite a few visitors. Once they r on your friend list, open your gate to friends. Let people know the gate's open thru the ACNH forum here. It works. It's still a bit messy but it's Nintendo.
@k8sMum I've been through all the settings in the airport, that big pop-up box w/ all it's friends settings, which seems like it's set up to only cover people you've played w/ but doesn't let you actually invite anybody. Even the postcards on offer are only for your future self and your islanders. Why can't we send postcards to our "friends" who we are friends w/ on our Switch who are also playing the game? The game has a built in postcard station.
I get the feeling somebody at Nintnedo had a really good way to do this, then HQ brass came in and step-by-step went through that easy process and came up with the most convoluted process anybody could possibly think of. Maybe they've all been reading those DaVinci Code books?
I'm going grocery shopping at King Kullen, they had food last week, wish me well. Hopefully this wasn't the morning turnip prices were good on my island.
@rjejr
You are on my switch friends list. If i open my gate to friends, i believe anyone can come. Thats how i did it. The first time I posted a DoDo code open to everyone! It was a bit nervewracking, but fun.
I think one problem is you don't know when someone's gate is open. I have no way of letting you know. Thats why i gave you my secondary email addie, so i could give you a heads up. It's nintendo: they are never gonna do online easy or right. Once you do it, it gets easier.
Once you are ACNH friends you can send postcards, gifts etc thru the postcards. You're right: being Switch friends should be enough. But it is what it is.
Hope you had good luck grocery shopping. Hope your turnip prices rise. Hope to have you visit Bedlam Isle soon!
@k8sMum I survived food shopping, but after spending $93 I still had to go to Wendy's for lunch when I got back b/c we had nothing to eat. 😂
If I sign up for NO again I'll take the online more seriously. I have $15 credit at Best Buy I need to use. Was going to buy the $40 Labo VR kit but it's out of stock. My son's single NO account expires in June so I may get us a family then when my other son gets his own Switch to take to college. RIT is looking very likely.
@rjejr
Right, all this grocery stuff but nothing to actually eat. I've got to run up to Wegmans tomorrow to get a prescription and will do my form of hoarding: I'll buy 2 loaves of bread.
RIT is a great school. I feel badly for kids trying to make these huge decisions at his time. But damn, I hate driving in Rochester! I've driven in Boston, NYC etc but c'mon: Rochester has an road area called 'the can of worms'! Heheh.
For now relax about the online. When you get it back we'll drag you kicking and screaming toward the abyss called Nintendo online. It really does get easier once done.
@k8sMum Thanks. One good thing about RIT, it's very near Rochester but still a bit outside. And the downtown train station is across the street from the bus station so depending on $ he has a choice. Alfred does sort of have a bus station but no train. And Alfred is barely a village, RIT itself is 16,000, so a better chance for friends. And who knows, maybe a job in Rochester.
And I'll get online eventually I suppose, @Spoony_Tech is publicly and openly mocking me into it on Twitter. 😉
