Another cloud game has today launched on the Nintendo Switch. This time around it's IO Interactive's Hitman 3. The Switch eShop application is a free download - allowing you to test out the connection before you actually buy the game.
Cloud gaming obviously isn't at the point yet where it's the best way to play, but without this technology, games like this one arguably wouldn't even be available (or necessarily playable) on Nintendo's hybrid device. There are also some other hurdles like the fact cloud gaming isn't available in every country just yet and that select games may not hang around forever.
With all this in consideration, we want to know if you'll be buying this latest cloud release on the Nintendo Switch. Vote in our poll and leave a comment down below.

I have a PlayStation and a PC so honestly, this isn’t aimed at me. Definitely excited to play this though, love the series.
Cloud gaming on switch, to me, sounds pretty neat. But I wouldn't get this game anyway, even if I had a good PC.
No, I have systems to play this on if I'm interested. Even if I didn't, though, I don't really get on with cloud gaming.
From what I've seen the game looks pretty good. If it does well when I test it, I may pick it up.
Not a chance I'm putting money into cloud gaming.
There should really be an option for "Nope, I'm not in favor of cloud games in general", too.
I really don't like the concept. And the laws of physics mean that cloud gaming will never be on par with having a machine in your home. Not unless they plan on building server hubs in effectively every town. But if the hub is on the other side of a country? You're always gonna have lag and input delay. Even assuming the whole connection is speed of light.
Next time, add a choice for "I will never buy a cloud version of any game even with a gun to my head"
Nah. I have both a PS4 and a PC, and I'm getting a PS5 soon. I simply don't buy these versions of games when I actually have hardware that can run them better and natively
no thanks i don't like the whole cloud gaming thing, if it ever becomes the norm then i will simply stop buying games and play what i already own
I am not anti-cloud gaming at all, but once again, I couldn’t be less interested in the game being offered. Maybe something appealing will be put up one day.
I will never buy anything from the cloud, that's like marrying an imaginary wife. You could spend time with her all day but she's not there with you physically.
No, because it'll just encourage them to make more.
I don't mind digital download games but I try not to support cloud games. I am trying to get a PS5, and will most likely pick it up for PS5 at some point.
I tried to get into HITMAN 2 back in the day. Just not my jam. (Why the heck am I talking like THIS!?!?)
I live in a rural part of the USA so it ain’t a viable option.
Absolutely not. I'd only be able to play it either in docked mode with the wired adapter or sitting in the one spot with good wifi.
At which point, why bother getting a portable version with massive input lag and servers that will disappear in a few years?
I never want this to become the norm. If you can't port a game to Switch don't put it on Switch. If this becomes commonplace then I worry for third party support on the platform.
So much hate for cloud gaming, sheesh. Cloud gaming can and does work just fine if they have servers relatively close to you.
I think most people who do t like cloud gaming haven't really given it a chance. It's good stuff, though I haven't tried it on Switch yet, just on PC.
Depending on the cloud service, you can get inputs that are so responsive that you don't feel or notice any lag.
@Kalmaro i the issue might be money. How much is it? I wanna know how much im spending on nothing😆😆
Full price? Included/discount with Nintendo online?
At least with xcloud gaming, it's included in a subscription model.
Cloud gaming will show a deep divide over ISPs and those in countries with Internet issues...plus the financial costs and hidden costs of streaming it all, such hidden costs include the environment with all those servers.
Physical media all day every day for me for the most part, downloads a distant second as we saw how Scott Pilgrim disappeared for years until last week, which is bad news for people whose systems die and backups are lost.
I would buy the cloud version of if I was interested in the game at the first place.
Aslo, call me an idiot, but I want Boxes with download codes for these Cloud Games. Because I like game boxes.
Yes because I love dropping money on something I won’t have access to at some point in the future.
@PhhhCough Your passion h for the experience, the only difference is that you don't have anything physical to experience again years from now.
It's not for everyone, I actually don't want us to go full cloud gaming m at the same time, I still enjoy cloud gaming.
I'll be playing on PS4. I tried out the Cloud version earlier today, and the input lag measured in the full seconds, virtually unplayable sadly. Would love to play Hitman on Switch, but for the internet speeds that I have access to, it's just not worth it at all
Never buying into cloud gaming, and if I wanted to play this kind of game I wouldn't have picked the Switch as my sole gaming system.
Actually bought it for Switch since I really want a new Hitman, haven't touched the series since blood money. Ive got 100/100 internet and my switch hooked by wire to my router (it tests to around 70mb download in the switch internet test).
Im not very impressed, and I will most probably not buy another cloud game after Im done with this game. Its noticable lag when aiming, making it harder to hit targets which is frustrating. Further more, it shuts down plenty of times and isn't exactly fast to boot, as you have to go to a web site to boot it, not like the "real" Switch games.
Further more, sound glitching plenty of times, and graphics should in my opinion be next-gen standard except resolution when played on cloud, but textures and stuff in this Switch version seems to be at PS4 quality.
Having only Hitman 3 on Switch makes this version feel gimped. From what I've heard, this game alongside Hitman 1&2 complement eachother.
I already have Hitman 1 & 2 on Stadia through my Pro Subscription and the plan is to start them up soon and then head into 3. I'm somewhat fond of Cloud gaming, but having it on Switch seems to counter various aspects of what makes the Switch great.
No physical no buy @Hobbitgamer amirite?!
If gaming really goes the way of the cloud I’m done. I’m just now embracing digital but that’s where it ends. This is all about profit and control. Nothing benefits the customer.
Cloud gaming is not gonna work well with my Xfinity's new data cap and overage fees. I'll be damed if I'm gonna fork over 30$ for unlimited when its something I've always had. Buncha Greedy Gus's.
Unless the graphics are mind blowing or the online community is incredible, I don’t like the requirement of being tethered to a high speed connection at all times to run the game.
Aussie internet says no
I couldn't even try the demo completely cause it crashed! I live in South america, and of course there's no servers near here so the game was so laggy even with the Ethernet cable connected. I wouldn't pay for this, I enjoyed the Control demo but the switch is for playing anywhere you want, even if you are near the servers you cannot go and play it somewhere else where you have no good wifi, it really kills the soul of the switch, which for me is play wherever the hell you want lol, I think buying this really sends the wrong message to the devs, let's buy games like doom eternal, they really made an amazing and graphically demanding game into a portable divice without sacrificing much! That's where we should put our attention and money.
The future i will never support cloud gaming
I have no opposition to cloud gaming; I picked up Control earlier last year and was happy with it, but just not interested in the Hitman games.
No, i will not buy cloud based Games.
As a Service like Netflix as an Addition? Maybe.
But this is just Waste of Money.
Yup. It's awesome
@th3r3ds0x or it's about Switch being too weak to run the game and this is the best and only option.
Native port or bust.
No I will not borrow a game for its full price. 🤪
I like the game, i love switch but i am a cloud gaming hater for several reasons.
Cloud gaming is the devil's work.
I bought Control on Switch. The game actually looks and runs better than on my pc, which is not a potato. I have very stable internet though.
Hitman is not my thing. I don’t like to murder.
Cloud gaming is a good idea in principle, but the main issue is that we don't know for how long we will be able to play the game. If they did it like a rental service, where you pay a certain amount of money per month, I'd be interested. I'm definitely not paying full price for a rental when I don't know the time period.
I'll give it a spin and see.
Love cloud gaming but I'm not interested in this game. I've enough to play on Switch and Stadia as it is. And I have Hitman 1 and 2 on my Stadia Pro subscription. If I want to try out the series I'll start with them.
@th3r3ds0x being able to play the game at all benefits the customer. If I only own Switch I'd have no access to this game. You'd rather I have no access at all than have the choice to play a cloud version?
How much is it to play through? If they are charging like you own it, then nope.
Pass (no XBox pun intended). The mobile internet here, probably not helped by the blue-fingered ex-government's tumbler hijinks, is at the point where I keep my phone manually set to 3G at all times - it proves faster on all fronts. Vita can still stomach it on quite a few occasions, but I don't expect any cloud Switch game, especially with the lack of hardware limitations likely tempting the respective devs to flex the product's LES GRAFIQUES muscle, to have an option to run in Vita's resolution. Besides, my interest in the series is lukewarm enough that Nintendo might release TWO successors in a row by the time I get around to binging it.
Like I've said before, Switch can decently run a lot more than the fandom's first world definitions of "decently" would have you believe, but if the devs or publishers themselves don't feel at peace with the work, budget or compromises required, just better luck next gen. There are MYRIADS of still woefully non-portable pastgen gems out there.
No. I will not be buying the Cloud Version Of Hitman 3 On Nintendo Switch.
It would have to be really cheap
You should split the “not interested” option into “not interested in Hitman 3” and “not interested in Cloud games” - which is definitely not the same as “cloud isn’t available in my region”
When is the review up nintendolife? I would of purchased but €89.99 for a cloud game!
No thanks.
No, No, No, No and No.
I know it's not one one, but NO.
Cloud gaming is a blight on the gaming community, its just a money sink that is renting a game, not owning it.
@GrailUK why would they charge any less than full price? You're getting to play the full game.
Hitman is great, but I don't want to deal with the issues from cloud gaming. I'm picking it up on PS4 instead.
Nope because cloud gaming is not real gaming.
If I buy Hitman 3, it’ll be on PS4 or my preordered PS5 (which arrives in March), but I’ll certainly try the tester on Switch later today. If I like it, I’ll get it on PlayStation as I’ve never played a Hitman game before... unless you count Hitman GO on PS Vita! 😛
People forget this is more a service than a product, people can pay over $100 to go to a park and have fun but the Park will never be yours, why not pay $40 for a game if you really enjoy the trip? Is not about having the stuff in physical, is about quality, options and fun; People get use to have the game on physical like me, but cloud gaming will be a forced future as any streaming service, and I wish they use that convenience to make a better job in the final product.
I love having my physical games but don't talk like if Cloud Gaming is someting bad, is just different and is not polished yet.
Nope, because I'm not interested in the game. But if there was a game I wanted coming to the cloud, I'd probably get it.
@Eddy7eddy And remember, the game is not real, but the memories and feelings are, and that's what's important. (Like other stuff we do as investment for entertaiment).
Nah... I like those games the first mission and then they collect dust on the shelf
This poll was never going to down well in a community than considers a box on their shelf the most important thing when buying a game.
you don't need any type of subscription when you buy a cloud game, so it's definitely not a rental.
I've been playing with Stadia for a while and it seems very very interesting.
Same here, not supporting cloud Gaming! This is so cheap, Switch could never run this game. But i will also never support Stadia. When this kind of Gaming is the big deal, console Gaming is dead for me.
The only way I'd ever consider cloud gaming is if there was an option to rent a game for a week for £5. Otherwise I'm simply not interested, it's a terrible development for the customers. It gives the publishers complete control over how, when and how long you can play their games. It's gross that they've come in with heavy handed prices right at the top of the scale. You're renting their game and it should be priced as such.
It's a shame the media is so into it, but it gives them more to write about and review so it'll get their backing and support no matter how much we're put off by it.
Yeah I'm not okay with this being the norm. I still own games that i purchased in the 1990s. This is impossible with Cloud Gaming, the publishers will eventually decide to take the game off the servers and when they do, you'll realise the problem with this entire concept.
No i will certainly not be supporting this.
Cloud gaming isn't a great option. The likes of Google Stadia sound good on paper, but if they decide to shut the servers down you've lost access to the games you may or may not have purchased.
I decided to get Hitman 3 on another format, managed to transfer my progress across with my unlocks earned. And, at least if the internet went offline for a bit, i can still play.
Cloud gaming is definitely not for me so that's a no. I don't even like wasting money on digital games. I'll pick this up for PS5 when it goes on sale. I barely bought Hitman Definitive Edition, so I need to play that and Hitman 2 first anyway...
can anyone tell me if it's possible to buy the Hitman 1&2 levels in-game? I haven't played any of them before and I'd rather play the earlier levels before playing this one but finding all the information online incredibly confusing.
And about the downloaded games, we potentially won't be able to download them again if they decide to remove them? I think it's a "problem" beyond the cloud gaming land.
Nope. Would rather buy the game on one of the other platforms.
NO!
I don't really understand why to pay full price, for something that i will not keep for as long as i want, but for as long as the servers will work.
I'm not going to pay 59 or 69 euros, just for not being able to play it after 6-7 years when the switch servers will be down. No thank you.
I think that they should come up with another model fr streaming games. Not selling them. Paying a small fee as a loan would be for suitable i think, for streaming games.
@fabiotc
I agree, but even if the game gets delisted, you still have the online "ticket" to download it. And if you have more memory cards, you could theorically have all your digital purchases on physical media (memory card).
On the other hand, with streaming acquires, if the server turns off, you can no longer play thw game you've bought.
It would be more suitable to streaming gaming, a loan model, paying a small fee and being able to play it for a short amount of time, rather than paying full price for it...
"Buying"? More like renting. I've no interest in this cloud based nonsense.
I would prefer a streaming service on Switch rather than a pay per game model.
Everyone saying about servers shutting down and losing access to games seems pretty irrelevant in an era of day 1 patched and updates. Pretty much every game requires some form of download to work effectively nowadays, so if the servers shut down for those (like people are scared of with cloud games) then your precious discs or cartridges would be just as unplayable as a cloud game.
Cloud gaming is a good idea for subscription stuff, but I don't like the idea of investing in a game that will effectively disappear as soon as copies stop selling and the servers are turned off.
I would be down with cloud gaming if it was available in my region.
never, i hate cloud game first, and second my connection is a ***** anyway, i tried out of curiosity control demo and was running with an horrible controls lag make unplayable.
@Jester151 sucks if Switch is your only option.
@blockfight honestly, yes. Personally I’d rather not have the experience. I am entitled to my opinion, even if it’s the only thing. Cloud gaming sucks for the gamer. Hard pass for me.
Cloud gaming can go and suck a Richard.
@th3r3ds0x Each to their own, but if the options are you cannot play this game at all or you can only play a cloud version of this game then I would choose the 2nd option all day long.
I'm getting to play games I would never have had the chance to thanks to cloud gaming. 60 hours into AC Odyssey and it's definitely in my top 5 fav games ever. I'd have missed out otherwise. I have an Xbox One but I dont get to play it as much as i would like, being able to play on cloud gives me more ways to play these big games (TV, phone, PC browser, tablet) so I'm more likely to give them a go.
That’s perfectly fair. Just too many games to bother with poor experiences, again my opinion. If I wanted to play the game badly enough, I find another way. I have enough games on backlog already to likely last beyond death.
That's fair. If it runs poorly for you then I wouldn't settle for that. Thankfully streaming runs great for me. As good as my XBox One runs games locally without having to worry about downloading big game files, patches and storage. Perfect for me.
No point A: my internet sucks. Point B: I refuse to support cloud gaming in any way shape or form.
@blockfight poor experience is one factor. Not owning a copy being another. Service goes down etc... not playing. It’s anti-consumer. You have virtually no rights, just the ones they give you. My issue is folks start supporting this and it will be the only way before you know it. End of gaming as we know it.
@th3r3ds0x I don't think cloud gaming will ever pass out local console/pc gaming. I think it will just be another option for people. A much cheaper option at that.
As for not owning games, ya thats a valid point and I get why some people are hung up on this. Personally, I'm playing games now. I'm not worried about if I can play Cyberpunk or whatever in 20 years time. I am buying the game to experience it. When I'm done I'll move on to the next thing. If I've got value for money out of my experience I'm happy.
As I mentioned, I've played AC Odyssey for 60 hours, it cost me €23 on Stadia. I got value for money there.
People seem to feel the same way about cloud gaming that i have always felt about online gaming. I prefer to play against friends in person than online, you could say cloud friends, but like online gaming cloud gaming and the end of physical media is coming like it or not.
I tried Control and the performance was... not good. I'd rather pick it up on PC
@Fiskern The performance was not good for you! It performs very well if you've got decent internet.
Not for me. If I want to play it I have a Series X.
Glad it exists though, more options are always good.
My hybrid console doesn't like Australia's hybrid internet.
@Feguy Aussie inte..⏳⌛rnet..sa..ys...no
F*ck clouding, f*ck Australia's internet.
No thanks, not because its cloud gaming (though that doesn't help) I'm just not interested in Hitman in general
This always reminds me of how easy it is to pick up my DS lite or Wii or NES and play games without the worry of a connection, server support or support for obsolete game roms. Amazing what a physical piece of technology can do to sooth my gaming heart.
@Severian
Plus everyone knows the iZombie apocalypse will not be about human brains but they will be coming for your digital downloads.
Unless something like GamePass or PSNow came to Switch, no way. Even then it's a hard sell since it's all streaming, and the Switch doesn't exactly have the best Wi-fi tech in it as evident by browsing the eshop and downloading games even on my excellent connection. Of course, thats also likely due to Nintendo's generally poor online functionality as a whole.
@Peach64 I couldn't give a flyin' fadoodle about a box rn, tbh(even if it's a nice touch). If anything, something like the Switch's carts take up hardly any space, even in numbers, but that's my take.
Anyways, to fuse some of the reasons above that I'm in line with:
Is it a nice alternative if you are able to reliably play and it's your sorta thing? Ofc. If you want to grab my attention though(for whenever I'd actually be able to even use the service), like someone suggested above, it'd make more sense to be part of an actual rental service($X for Y week(s)), at a [much] more affordable pricing point to boot. And I don't even sub to Netflix or any of that.
My experience with Hitman 3 on Switch: I could only play once. The graphical fidelity is good, but the game was laggy, maybe because the servers were too crowded, but that didn't happened with Control, maybe this one looked blurry at first, but the lag was basically nonexistent. And on Hitman you need to be pretty accurate, so if it's still laggy I won't buy it. But, I'll wait for a sale, because I don't think it's fair to pay full price for a game you don't even own, and half the levels are locked behind DLC, and this is also a problem on the rest of the versions of the latest Hitman games.
Cloud gaming may be the only option for some people but it is a waste of bandwidth for most people who have a limit from their ISP. It will never take off as a service until we all have fiber and extremely large or no limits. I don’t think it will work well for FPS games compared to local console or PC games.
Ehhh. I am not interested in this game at all.
I prefer native ports of games, but if cloud gaming is the option, then I don't mind at all.
I just wish we get RE 7 on switch (cloud or native)
I like the results. If it comes to a next gen switch or next iteration in physical or digital I’m down.
I bought Control for the Switch and it was awesome! So this is a no brainer! I wish I could buy Resident Evil 7 like Japan got!
I don’t live in the middle of nowhere, but a peg above that, and I had a great experience on the demo.
Guess a lot of people that tune into Nintendo Life live in the woods and/or haven’t even tried cloud gaming.
I love the concept of Cloud gaming, but HATE that you do not own the game. You own a "Right to play it for ever how long the developer tells you that you can". That's lame I still play eternal darkness. I'd hate if that was taken away from me. Yes, I know one day the disk will corrode, but I've had that game like 15 years. I am not sure if these cloud games will even last 2 years.
Love cloud gaming. But I will play this on Stadia, witch is more stable than what's on Switch.
I really wanted to play this on the switch (as my pc barely ran hitman 2 but i still got through it all) only to find out this morning it isn't available in Australia on the switch... Yeah really disappointed as I would have been happy to purchase. Annoying as my Internet connection runs quite well but eh, what can you do? Our stupid government was told not to use copper in the nbn roll out and only now... Several years later realised they should have bloody listened.... 😭 Hope you guys who can play it enjoy it on my behalf!
@Heavyarms55 Have you tried the Stadia free trial month? If not, please give it a try before ranting on about cloud gaming. Combined with Chromecast it is absolutely indistiguishable from playing on a home console. I played Cyberpunk and, more importantly, Celeste, which both ran perfectly all the time. I didn't miss a single jump because of lag in Celeste.
Don't argue with laws of physics, please, as you're just spreading baseless false information. There are enough other reasons for consoles, of course. And I tested Control on Switch and it really is an ugly, laggy mess. Those who charge u should at least provide decent infrastructure.
No, I hope they try their best to make a proper downgrade version, like witcher 3 and doom series.
I respect companies for trying to give us parity so I will test it. My internet is not the very best though.
@HarryK Go take a science class.
I'm not the sort of person to discard a book I love, I'll keep it on my bookshelves forever and maybe return to it from time to time. Likewise I'm not the sort of person to discard a game I love, and would resent falling in love with something only for it to be ripped away in the future.
If your mindset is that games are a consumer good to be consumed and once finished, move onto the next product for consumption, the threat of not actually owning the game but essentially long term renting it through cloud gaming will not be a concern. Thats is a totally legitimate take to have.
However seeing video games as a medium of art on a par with movies, paintings, albums, etc... means that having continued tangible access to games to re-experience them, maybe in a new context or with a different mindset, is something invaluable.
Thats why I cannot buy into cloud gaming.
In digital titles you lose some ownership unless you can back it up like a GoG copy. Switch cloud games have 0 ownership. Once the server goes down then your money and investment go poof with it. This is just a very expensive rental system that I hope crashes and burns.
This game will be gone in three months. Hardly anyone is going to buy a cloud game for Switch.
I would love to but no Switch cloud games are available in my country (Australia).
I already have a Google Stadia. Cloud gaming works well.
@NintendoByNature I am everly banning all physical from spacings. Controllers?! Bah! I used minding powers.
@HobbitGamer you have these blak magikarps in mind space? I no play slowdown laezie
