Re: Review: Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight (3DS)

Mikes

I'm not surprised about the good score. August 4th? I've been living under a rock. I haven't even started Mystery Dungeon yet. There are still a bunch of other games I need to finish.
I guess this is the one Etrian Odyssey limited edition that I won't be getting, sadly. I'm still going to grab this game someday, though. Atlus has been putting so many games on the 3DS, it's crazy! They're all too good.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Version 1.1.0 Update is Now Live

Mikes

Ohhhhhhhhh snaaaaaaaap! quickly umplugged Wii U
The replays will be fine, right? Just making sure. I hope so.
Dang. I had the mindset that the update would come tomorrow in NA. It's a great thing I got an eShop card less than two hours ago. Anyway, I'm definitely looking forward to NL tournaments! Sounds like a lot of fun to play against other members.

Re: Review: KEYTARI: 8-bit Music Maker (Wii U eShop)

Mikes

$8? Ick. Well, since it's on the Wii U, I probably wouldn't have gotten it anyway, since I have a computer to do that, and plenty of instruments around me.
Perhaps I'd be better off with a more fleshed-out utility from the 3DS eShop. There have been way too many times where I've come up with ideas away from home. Sure, I always write 'em down, but keeping what it should sound like exactly, through memory alone, almost always fails.

Re: ESL Announces Tentative Move Into Competitive Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Tournaments

Mikes

That's pretty awesome! The rule-set is really great, too. I haven't used custom moves in a long time (almost forgot they existed), but it would have been nice if they allowed 'em.
I sure do hope it comes to North America. I consider myself pretty decent already, but c'mon — a free copy of Yoshi's Woolly World? I'd start practicing and studying character match-ups more intensively like crazy before they start! It'll be interesting to see how this one goes.

Re: Video: Nintendo Shines The Spotlight on Aya Kyogoku and Risa Tabata

Mikes

@97alexk Haha, oh wow, I see it.
This was a neat video. I'm not interested in either of the new Animal Crossing games, but it's cool to take a look at what things are like from another developer's perspective.
They're definitely right on the "don't be hesitant" part, although from personal views, it's a bit worrying. Imagine you're pretty confident about entering that line of work, but you then worry about everything you aren't aware of, like "What if ___ pops up and I can't debug it?" or "This isn't working and I'm not sure what the problem is!" kinda stuff. I'm no programmer or animator yet, so I have no idea how difficult or easy those things can be, but I'm pushing forward regardless.

Re: Exclusive: Project CARS "Simply Too Much For Wii U", Developer Now Waiting On New Nintendo Hardware

Mikes

Never cared for Project Cars, and I still don't, but this is nuts. The cancellation is the least of my surprises, but just backing-out on those that funded the game for a Wii U version? Heck, if you knew you couldn't have handled it, you should have said this much sooner. Now you're saying it can't be done on the Wii U?
Well, I'm sorry for those that wanted/funded a Wii U version.

Re: Nintendo Releases Genyo Takeda's Full Eulogy from Satoru Iwata's Funeral

Mikes

It's definitely been a long, difficult week. During about half of the week, I still couldn't understand the fact that he passed away. My brain didn't seem to be taking it as fact. I knew the news, and my brain still expected him to be around like normal.
Emotionally speaking, I've been doing much better now. I'll never forget the charm he would always present, and the interesting directions he's taken the company. Hopefully his memory will live on forever. Well, it looks like I can give my lasting words and start moving on. Rest in peace, Iwata-san!

Re: Review: G.G Series VERTEX (DSiWare)

Mikes

Gah! I keep seeing these G.G. Series games everywhere. Sometimes, I keep thinking you guys show the same old review with a different picture. They sure do keep their titles, er, consistent.
Anyway, I can't say this is my type of game, but good review.

Re: Hands On: Blast Ball Brings Crude Button Mashing and is a Poor Advert for Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Mikes

I agree. Blast Ball is definitely not the way to go if they're going to show off the game.
Anyway, all in all, as things were, it probably wasn't the best idea to reveal this game at the moment. People have been waiting some time for a new mainline game (although it's been about almost five years, it's not that many for me). Giving a spin-off without solidifying the releases of the main series makes most people freak out about "Where are all of the Metroid elements?!"
The spin-off itself probably isn't bad. I don't recall an agreeably bad game developed by Next Level Games. What is bad is the timing. Well, by timing, I mean "Have Metroid games been released steadily before this? Are we aware if there will be another one shortly/in a while?"
Take the spin-off, Metroid Prime Pinball from October 2005, for example. Not only were Metroid games being released at a normal rate, but it was also followed by Metroid Prime Hunters in March 2006, so I highly doubt there were many complaints about Metroid Prime Pinball. The most recent Metroid game released was Other M, and that was in 2010. If a new main Metroid game was in development and everyone knew, people would generally be indifferent to Federation Force, not oppose it as much, etc. You shouldn't give spin-offs without assuring your audience with the main games.
@IronMan28 has a point, by the way. I don't have much to say about that, since he put it perfectly.
Spin-offs are ways of broadening what a series is known for. However, with this timing, very few are willing to accept this game, so that's why everyone's so avid on having the elements of an average Metroid game. That fix hasn't been received in a while.
Despite NLG's history, I'm not sure if the game will be good, bad, have many Metroid elements, or lack many Metroid elements (although the Treehouse footage isn't doing much justice when it comes to elements). I will reserve my final opinions when the game releases.
Oh, and some people even say the name should have just been Federation Force, or something. This would have changed nothing. People would still have the same complaints.

Re: Dark Pit amiibo Exclusive To Best Buy In North America

Mikes

Oh boy. Here we go again. I could have sworn Reggie said they'd do a better job with amiibo, or something.
It's crazy to see all of the disappointing stories of people not being able to get pre-ordered amiibo, exclusivity problems, etc. That's too much for me to get even slightly involved in.

Re: Miiverse is Getting a Massive Redesign this Summer

Mikes

Whoa. 30 post limit? That's pretty generous. I can't even imagine making that many posts in a day alone (even with comments combined).
I would have just separated the categories into posts and drawings. I'll just have to see how this turns out.

Re: Rumour: Former Rare Composer David Wise Is Working On An Unannounced Nintendo Title

Mikes

Rumors never really have a place with me, but I totally support another Diddy Kong Racing. If this ended up being true, however, then that's good.
I never really played any Donkey Kong Country games other than Returns and Tropical Freeze. The latter has an absolutely amazing soundtrack, so I'd be more than happy having him compose for another game! Sometimes, I wonder how he does it.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Asks for Fan Trust With Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Mikes

@bubby444 Well, it does take place in the Metroid universe, likely with Metroid elements, so it would be odd to not put the spin-off under the Metroid title. Even if the game was just called Federation Force, people would still be upset.
@Yorumi You don't have to spend any money. Vote with your wallet! Although, if the game doesn't sell well enough, they'll just assume no one cares about Metroid and won't try making another game.
I kid, I kid (although that'd be pretty horrible). We have reviews, game-plays, and whatnot, so there's no need to spend your money willy-nilly. You don't need to search for a reason to like the game.
How is the game insulting to the fan-base, really? Should it stay true to its name, it should live up to general Metroid expectations. It's different than what we're used to, definitely. However, if you bring up the point about working on a spin-off in the stead of dedicating resources to a new main game, then I understand that.
I find that statement a bit odd, too. If you're confident in how the team's working on the game, there's no need to ask for our trust — just make a good game, show it off, etc.
Of course, it could just be a simple statement of reassurance and I'm thinking too much.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aime Asks for Fan Trust With Metroid Prime: Federation Force

Mikes

Differences about the game aside, how can someone even say it's a bad game? It hasn't been released yet. It's not bad as a game, and it's not bad as a Metroid game. Even so, I can't even say it's good as a game or Metroid game at all. I realize most of us really dislike the game, but please calm down and wait for the game to be finished, at least. Who's to say it won't have plenty of puzzles, collectibles, and whatnot that Metroid games usually have?

Re: Fire Emblem Fates Storms to Number One in Japan

Mikes

That's awesome! Now, it's time to wait about a year or so for release, for some reason.
I'm going to have to remember to not click on anything FE related while on YouTube. I doubt YouTube won't give me a suggested video on the new game if I do. I just know there's going to be a video that has the final boss on the thumbnail, or something. Temporarily unsubscribing from GameXplain never does me much justice, either.

Re: Sonic The Hedgehog is Now 24 Years Old

Mikes

It must have been fate. I came across this today:
Untitled
Sadly, I didn't have the money for it. I wish I could've gotten it. I doubt I'll see it there again, but if I do, I'm nabbing that first!
Happy Birthday Sonic! I'm still waiting for my Sonic Advance 4 to this day.

Re: Poll: How Excited Are You About Nintendo's E3 Games?

Mikes

The 3DS games I'm definitely getting are Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam and Fire Emblem Fates. I actually plan on getting a good number of Wii U games, but I may need to cut the list short, so I'm keeping my eye on them (but Xenoblade Chronicles X and Yoshi's Woolly World are must-haves this year). I'd also like to have Fatal Frame, although I've never played any of the games, so I'm not sure if I'd like it.
As for SMTxFE, I was really expecting it to go along the lines of the main Shin Megami Tensei games. We haven't gotten much game-play, and it seems lighter in theme. If it's more like Persona, I'm sure it'd end up being a great game, but I was hoping for something as dark as the main games. The singing and pop-star stuff isn't convincing me. Well, I shouldn't be so quick to assume, anyway.
