Earlier this week we shared the exciting news around the major Super Smash Bros. update, due on both the Wii U and 3DS versions. Set for 31st July (which it is at the time of writing in Europe and Japan, for example) it's now gone live in both versions of the game.

It's a fairly meaty update, taking over five minutes to download on our Wii U with a fast connection and taking up a hefty 3383 blocks on our UK 3DS (it seems to be smaller for some). The Wii U detected the update automatically when we loaded the game, though with the 3DS version we had to prompt it by trying to access the in-game DLC store.

As previously reported, this update adds Tourneys and YouTube uploads to the Wii U version of the game. Both versions have new DLC, meanwhile, with the following available:

  • Samus's Armour Mii Outfit - $0.75 / £0.69 single, $1.15 / £1.09 for both
  • Lloyd Set Mii Outfit - $0.75 / £0.69 single, $1.15 / £1.09 for both
  • Black Knight Mii Outfit - $0.75 / £0.69 single, $1.15 / £1.09 for both
  • Chrom Mii Outfit - $0.75 / £0.69 single, $1.15 / £1.09 for both
  • Flying Man Mii Outfit - $0.75 / £0.69 single, $1.15 / £1.09 for both
  • King K. Rool Mii Outfit - $0.75 / £0.69 single, $1.15 / £1.09 for both
  • Bear Suit Mii Outfit - $0.75 / £0.69 single, $1.15 / £1.09 for both
  • Hoodie Mii Outfit - $0.75 / £0.69 single, $1.15 / £1.09 for both
  • Hyrule Castle (64) Stage - $1.99 / £1.79 single, $2.99 / £2.69 for both
  • Peach's Castle (64) Stage - $1.99 / £1.79 single, $2.99 / £2.69 for both
  • Mii Fighter Costume Bundle - $6 / £5.52 single, $9.20 / £8.72 for both
  • Bundle Collection 3 (all outfits plus both stages) - $9.98 / £9.10 single, $15.18 / £14.10 for both

In addition we received a K.K. Slider Mii outfit as a freebie in our copies.

Of course, YouTube uploads and Tourneys are a hot attraction. Our initial attempts to access the Tourneys were met by a network maintenance message, though as the update's just recently gone live (at the time of writing) some patience is advised. We're planning to setup and run some community Tourneys on Nintendo Life as soon as we've been able to check out the available options and features in the mode.

Let us know how you get on with the update!
