Nintendo Shows Off 2D Gameplay Footage From Sonic Forces

Generations 2 confirmed. I feel like there is a half life 3 reference in here somewhere...

SEGA is getting funny about their marketing messages!
First it shows us a Sonic Forces which remembered us of a simple mobile runner to the horrible reboot of the last gen consoles, making lots of fans - me included - frowning their faces!
But you just wait! Ya got us a new surprise later!
Now it reveals the same game as a Sonic Generations sucessor!
Oh my, SEGA! You are about to be craziest company ever! And I'm starting to like it!
By the way, thanks for bringing a superb port of Bayonetta
to PC! Aso a clever move from your marketing.

Definitely grabbing both. I've been waiting for a new "boost" style game since Generations itself.

Interesting they're going with the Generations format. Hope it works as well because let's be honest, it was the best effort in recent years.

Now that I look at that gameplay more, sand has replaced water in Green Hill Zone. Looks like it really isn't another GHZ clone

So this is coming out similar time to 3D Mario. Damn

Can't wait for both games! I'm more interested in Sonic Forces, since the Modern Sonic type of gameplay is my favorite, but I'm also excited for Mania! Looking forward to learning more about the third character, too!

@123akis Sonic Forces does look interesting. Hopefully more gameplay gets shown at E3.

NEVER THOUGHT I'D SEE THAT STAGE AGAIN

Ha! That guy was right. There was someone stating a long time ago that there was going to be a third character because of one frame which showed the two sonics not following the rule of thirds. It was a really round-a-bout way, but he was right!

I like the theory that the third character is an OC creator, Sega did say it would be an unexpected character, I know enough about Sonic I'm pretty sure I could identify a silhouette.

Looking forward to both!! Now cmon Sega open up that chest of classics and start posting them on the Switch eshop!! Out Run, Afterburner, Alien Syndrome, Virtua Fighter 2, Sonic CD, Fantasy Zone I&II, Columns, Power Drift, House of the dead series, Streets of Rage series, golden Axe, Sega rally championship, Daytona USA, Alex Kidd, phantasy star series, shining force series, Virtua Cop 1&2, Nights into dreams, space harrier, galaxy force, Crazy Taxi 1&2, virtua tennis, confidential mission, space channel 5, Ecco the dolphin and sooooo many others!!

Don't know how to feel about Sonic Forces yet, but Sonic Mania doesn't look so appealing to me.

Going to grab both games for sure, but I'm a little more interested in seeing how Forces plays out.

Freaking Mark of the Wolves man, that game would definitely be a day one purchase for me.

Sonic Mania = Day 1 purchase, Sonic Forces though may be another story. Hope my intuition is wrong and both games are home runs.

Both games look like a lot of fun but does anyone have a clue who the schadow figure is in sonic forces?

I'm actually looking forwards to this game. I enjoyed playing Generations (almost 100%-ed it on X360, the only achievement I didn't bother with was the 'don't take damage on the final boss' thing), and if they use the same formula here, I'll most likely enjoy this part as well.

Both are wait-and-see candidates, though I expect to get one of them

The following comment is part of my "I missed the Direct, but this counts as highlights to me" series of wondrous comments of hypeation.
Man, oh man, with Green Hill Zone returning to Forces, this is Generations 2 in everything but name and I'm not complaining one bit! It's also one of the titles that I've been waiting for on my X1 as well, so that I wouldn't have to wait for the first Generations to become Backwards Compatible on the system as well (I have an Xbox 360 which I'd love to move to my mountain home).
And this being on Switch, of course, means that we're getting a true portable Sonic Generations after... well, after Sonic Shortations on 3DS.

And don't even get me started on Sonic Mania hype.

Still not a big fan of the 2D 'Generations' gameplay so I'll stick to Sonic Mania for the time being, and maybe pick up Forces later when it's a bit cheaper. Was really hoping for a release date, but oh well.

I don't know about Sonic Forces... It seems like SEGA is running out of ideas, but Sonic Mania looks great.

Sonic Mania is a done deal for me. Forces is on standby.

Both day one buys

This went from "I'll probably still get it because I'm a hopeless Sonic fan that wants to be abused by Sega yet again" to genuine hype at Generations 2. This plus Mania (which lets face it, will be the better one....I wish it were physical, especially since I have my Genesis swag kit on preorder.) is a pretty good year for Sonic.

Hmm...Forces looks promising, just wondering how many times they have to put Classic and Modern Sonic in the same game. I think Modern could do some side-scrolling every now and then...but who cares as long as the game is good lol.

Mania is a day one for me.
