If you were hoping Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity would receive some additional content over time, you might just be in luck. It is a Koei Tecmo Musou after all.
Following on from a story we ran back in October about dataminers potentially uncovering the entire cast of playable characters in the new Hyrule Warriors game, some newly discovered voice lines may also be hinting at what's to come.
Warning: possible spoilers ahead...
According to Gaming Reinvented, voice lines for "every playable character" in Nintendo's latest release have been ripped and there appear to be some unused ones. This is either left over content, or it could lead to something more such as DLC or a free update in the future.
The extra voice lines are for Astor, Sooga, Purah and Robbie, and there are also a number of characters calling out to these ones on the battlefield. You can listen here. Noticeably none of these characters were listed in the previous character datamine.
Nintendo hasn't said anything about DLC just yet. Again, though, this is a Koei Tecmo game we're talking about, and the original Hyrule Warriors game on Wii U also got a bunch of new playable characters.
Would you like to see Astor, Sooga, Purah and Robbie join the playable character roster? Share your thoughts down below.

Ooooh, DLC maybe? Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity (BOTW Prequel) Prequel?
I hope they're DLC. I was disappointed when I found out they weren't playable. I was especially disappointed with no playable Astor as he's one of my new favorite villains in the series. I also hope we eventually get some brand new characters such as Kass and maybe even Beedle as this game's Tingle.
Could be DLC, but the previous games had complete season passes. They can't just add characters and missions/maps like before.
I'm guessing they recorded every line possible while they had the actors in the studio...just in case. Easier than calling them back when they have other projects and a pandemic to deal with.
To be honest, no.
While I loved the original HW, and I spent over 500 hours on that (over 100 Hours on both Switch and Wii U version, and over 300 on 3DS), I like how Age of Calamity respect the time of the player more, you don't have over a thousand variations of every type of mission for every characters.
It's a more intense game with better pacing, and less wasted time doing the same thing over and over again.
It was fun for one time (or I should say 3 times since I played all versions), but not again.
Here's hoping that it's part of a free update, but the expectation of paid DLC is what ultimately put me off from buying this at launch. That and the fact that I haven't played the first game yet. The idea of exploring Hyrule 100 years ago is far more interesting conceptually (though the Warriors games typically don't allow for much in the way of exploration).
Tecmo Koei are notorious for their ridiculously overpriced DLC. The Atelier games typically have season passes that exceed the price of the base game for a handful of (usually) pervy costumes and side stories. And Dead or Alive 6 has multiple season passes each of which only contain a few new characters and an extremely stingy selection of costumes at more than the price of the base game, which is absolutely bananas.
Even the so-called "Ultimate" edition of Warriors Orochi 4 launched with a heap of additional paid DLC.
If DLC is released for this, then I will skip it and hold out for a complete edition on Switch 2 (with enhanced performance to boot).
What the heck?
I'm like 40 hours in, and I assumed Robbie, Purah, Astor, and Sooga were obtainable in the post game. That's actually why I burned my day today playing! I don't have enough angry words I can type here, so I'll just say, I'm so angry, surprised, and disappointed!
@PoorGeno Maybe play the game to enjoy the game rather than burning through it on an assumption of what might be available in a ‘post game’. That way you might have less cause for anger, surprise and disappointment.
@HotGoomba___Rebrand an alternate timeline where Link and Zelda die, so Purah and Robbie create giant mech suits.
And Linkle is there too.
For some reason.
@Silly_G Generally speaking, previous DLC passes for nintendo warrior games, and even ultimate alliance, were worth their price and then some. Also, its possible these characters MIGHT be part of a free update before any paid content as they also have a track record of giving free new characters that are already part of the base game but are for some reason not playable at launch.
These characters are cool and all, but I think we all know which accordion slinging beast needs to be a DLC character and have his own side story ASAP.
Am i the only one who is sick of seeing the headline 'Data miners discover...' every day on Nintendo sites.
Robbie und Purah were known to be playable, but Astor and Sooga are new.
Again, why do you report on data mining like this as a supporter of Nintendo?
Call me when you've found a playable Bolson. That's the people's choice.
@Hervine What’s wrong with data mining?
@thesilverbrick
It tends to fall into illegal territory, and it often leads to spoilers.
I know I shouldn't get my hopes up, but I'm clearly failing here.
@NathanTheAsian I was more so being rhetorical, because if you actually do the research, data mining a video game isn’t at all illegal. Sure, it does often reveal spoilers, but if the developers wanted to avoid that, they wouldn’t leave partial data in the code. Smash Bros is a prime example of a game that (for the most part) doesn’t leave revealing data to be mined before DLC releases, and if all developers were as vigilant about cleaning up code, there’d be no opportunity for spoilers.
And NintendoLife did their due diligence by not revealing anything in the thumbnail or title of the article, so what’s the harm? If someone didn’t want to know what was mined, they don’t have to click on the article.
This site is about news, and this most certainly falls into that category. I get people complaining about articles related to piracy and emulators, but this is absolutely not the same thing. Nothing illegal was done here, and nobody was harmed.
@PoorGeno Playing the game for the end game is a classic young person's mistake heh
9 times out of 10 you get there, realize there's not much to see, and wish you'd spent more time enjoying the journey
@NathanTheAsian Data mining isn't illegal lol. It's not like they're hacking into private servers, all this data was on their personal game cartridge (it's on yours too, if you have the game)
Better not be DLC! I already beat it and traded it in for money to use on other games for Black Friday
There were lots of voice lines found when datamining Fire Emblem: Three Houses that never got used by Koei Tecmo for anything. Koei Tecmo leaves a lot of junk data in the games...
@Chowdaire @Silly_G yeah, Hyrule Warriors added the villains as free characters in an update. With the catch that you had to get the first dlc to upgrade their weapons/max out their health.
Hyrule Warriors Legends did something similar, but with a brand new character instead, Medli. The DLC map with her upgrades was also just one dollar, so that was nice.
Fire Emblem Warriors though? I think that one gave a free map instead.
@Silly_G True about Koei Tecmo's DLC practices, but their prior collaborations with Nintendo (The first Hyrule Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3) were fairly generous with the DLC.
@thiswaynow Your point is valid: a work should be criticized for what is is, not what it is not. Only, you have singled me out and decided what kind of gamer I must be without knowing in order to insult me, when I was honest about my experience. Why would you want to be the person who makes people feel the way that's supposed to feel? My point is as valid as yours, because while a game should be criticized for what it is, this game's marketing claimed it has, which it has not. They made a TRAILER for two characters who are in a couple of CUTSCENES and are NPCs, which is a deceptive ad tactic. You could even say the other ad "It's time for you to learn what happenned 100 years ago" was deceptive, given the story. We all spent the same amount of money on the game, and I can tell you from Reddit, I have taken my time. You could "burn" through the main quest in like five hours, agreed, and I'm on hour 42. See: "I hate when youtube thumbnails have spoiled 'nth' past video games for me." Also, even God gets angry, so don't try to ride people for their emotional state, which prevents you from sharing your value with them.
@TeslaChippie One hundred quid says I'm older than you. Besides, I don't think I'm at the true endgame yet. Also: Mario Oddesy.
Edit: Heck, I bet the song my pun image is from is older than you. Thanks for the reply to my post.
So I just finished the game, and I am both satisfied and confused?
i wonder if well get ganondorf dlc since he making his big return in botw 2.
im actually pretty contempt with current roster so any dlc would be a treat!
@Kappatea That word does not mean what you think it means.
I really hope of we do get DLC it's not just character packs but a small side story or even some extra character exclusive missions
@J-Biz oops i mean content, my bad
Make Kass playable!
