Re: Opinion: A Few Too Many Questions & Unwelcome Surprises Are Taking The Shine Off The Switch 2 Reveal

ManaOwls

@Jack_Goetz I agree, Nintendo started losing its magic during the Switch era (at the halfway mark), and I'm not getting the new Nintendo console anymore (first time ever, and I experienced the launch of the NES).
People are all upset with the pricing (rightfully so), but I thought the whole presentation was more than disappointing, and Nintendo totally lost their values, charm and playfulness, focusing more on money and numbers instead of innovation, entertainment and fun.

Re: Poll: So, How Would You Rate The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct?

ManaOwls

There you have it… your Switch Pro.
It really does rather feel like a mid-gen update than a brand new console.
Just more of the same but this time you have to pay extra for everything.

Enhanced versions and remasters of games we already played.
This was absolutely missing the fun and charm and excitement that Nintendo was used to be known for.
Everything was so underwhelming and frankly disappointing.

The focus was more on online play, digital experience, subscription serves and all the stuff that seems to be so important these days.

It truly feels like Nintendo lost something special in the last couple of years but today marked the end of an era it feels like.
I’m glad I witnessed the release of the original NES up until (what might be the peak of Nintendo) the Wii U and 3DS era.

All my opinions of course. But I had to share it because I need to find out if someone shares similar feelings.
If you are happy, I’m happy for you though. Enjoy it!

Re: Anniversary: Nintendo Switch Launched On This Day Eight Years Ago

ManaOwls

A solid 7/10. And if you would have told me 5 years ago, that I wouldn't have gone for a 9 or 10, I would have laughed at you.

The first half was amazing, from release in 2017 (Breath of the Wild) up to the pandemic in 2020 (Animal Crossing: New Horizons). But the second half for me was a bit disappointing, and there were plenty of things over the years that I didn't enjoy.

  • Joy-Con drift was annoying.
  • I never used the hybrid function, I always played it as a home console, so that gimmick wasn't made for me.
  • Not a fan of removing Virtual Console and replacing it with NSO (a streaming-like service that I never used).
  • Taking away the menu and shop sounds/ music made the Switch feel kind of empty and took away charm.
  • Taking away Street Pass was a huge loss and made the experience not feel as exciting as the 3DS/Wii U era.
  • The last couple of years were pretty slow. After Tears of the Kingdom (which also was a bit disappointing, but not bad), there weren't a lot of games to look forward to.
  • The Switch successor taking too long and not being something new but rather a continuation was a big disappointment.

Even though the second half was a bit more sobering and declining over the last couple of years, the first half was absolutely amazing.

  • The Switch has an amazing library.
  • Love the pro controller.
  • Had one of the most exciting moments in gaming (Smash Bros Ultimate DLC reveals, for instance).
  • Lots of great memories with family and friends.

Being a hybrid console, it never felt like a dedicated home console nor a real handheld.
So I kind of miss the 3DS/Wii U era and hoped for Nintendo to start being a bit more quirky, experimental, and creative again. It feel like we are going into the opposite direction though and Nintendo plays it more safe.
But with this it definitely is losing a bit of the excitement and charm.

Just my 2 cents, and if you had a different experience, I respect that, of course.

Re: Talking Point: Should We Actually Get Excited For Pokémon Day This Year?

ManaOwls

To be honest, I stopped playing and caring about Pokémon after generation 7 (Sun & Moon) when they changed the National Dex. Basically after Pokémon came to Switch. I loved Pokémon since day one and played every game and watched every episode and every movie. Had all 809 Pokémon in the original Pokéball if possible, in all genders and variants. Transferred from Game Boy Advance to DS and then to 3DS.

For me, it either changed too much or stayed the same in the wrong places to care anymore. But I'm happy I was there, and I'm happy for everyone who enjoys Pokémon.

@Solomon_Rambling
-Excited for the Switch successor: agreed.
-Appreciate Switch's long life: agreed.
-Having a big backlog: agreed.
-Investors be damed: agreed.
-Can wait for the Switch successor: Arnold voice GiVe iT tO mE NOW!!

But 400 games within a year or two? Dang!
If I would have so much time for this awesome hobby, I still wouldn't finish 400 games in a year or two. 😅

Re: Talking Point: The Switch eShop Could Be Great With These Few Tweaks

ManaOwls

The Switch eShop won't exist anymore in a few years. So who cares? I would suggest to bring back Virtual Console to buy your games and play them anytime you want for as long as you have your console. Not being afraid of servers shutting down or paying monthly for subscription services that cut you out and change whenever they want.

Re: Talking Point: What Was The Best Switch Moment Of 2023?

ManaOwls

For me it definitely wasn't anything related to Tears of the Kingdom. It's not a bad game but it just wasn't for me. Its praised and hyped by so many and I'm happy for everyone who enjoyed it.
This year it was all the RPG goodness we got on the Switch. So many awesome games and announcements for next year.
What I hope for next year is the big reveal for the next Nintendo console. That will be the moment I'm waiting for.

Happy new year everyone!

@KendoHead
Plus, you had to do the same things over again:

  • Activating towers to uncover the map
  • Grinding shrines for hearts and stamina
  • Collecting memories
  • Finding Korok seeds
  • 4 Champions arc

And so on...

I'm also happy for everybody who enjoyed this game. I played it for over 150 hours and finished the story, towers, shrines but I think it is overhyped.

I thought Breath of the Wild was the better experience.
