Re: Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Appears To Have Removed Its Super Mario 3D World-Inspired Levels

@gatorboi352 completely genuine.

I am a Wii U owner but I no longer have as much time as I would like to play games in the front the TV (80 hour a week job, 5 kids to look after). As such, I have many games in my back log that I will likely never to.

I want EVERY good Wii U game ported to Switch. I bought Captain Toad on Wii U, I liked it but never managed to finish all the levels/challenges. If I had this game on Switch I could play it while travelling to/from work on the train. That appeals to me a lot and am happy to give Nintendo £35 to make it a reality.

Re: Nintendo And Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Were The Most Talked About Subjects During E3 On Twitter

JamesR

@Cobalt maybe I misunderstood your point. I don't particular want to debate whether people felt the direct met their expectations or not - there are other threads for that.

Overall I think the reception for Smash Ultimate at E3 has been very positive (the reveal, tournament and Treehouse). I believe that most Twitter traffic (and engagement on YouTube) has been genuine excitement for the game with a little "Where's Waluigi?". I don't buy Smash leading the conversation on Twitter due to the lack of "Yoshi (tentative title)" in the Direct as a likely explanation.

We will see in December how well it performs but I think it has a good chance of becoming the best selling Smash in the series. Although I expect the Pokemon Let's Go titles to lead the sales.

Re: Unravel Two Switch Port Would Have Delayed Its Reveal By "Half A Year Or So"

JamesR

I'm certain that this game would have sold very well had they released it on Switch. As a software developer, I know that's it's not super simple to compile your game for a different platform (and that's in the best case scenario of using a supported engine) but I have no doubts that this game could run well on Switch. To me, this just sounds like the team being caught out by the Switch's success mid development (and after the budgets had been finalised). Unfortunately, they launch at a time when indies are thriving on our little hybrid.

Re: Reggie Fils-Aimé Says Nintendo Labo Has “Absolutely” Met Company Expectations

JamesR

I don't know if there are any global numbers out there but, looking at the Japan sales, I would imagine over 500,000 units of the variety kit have sold. Now, I'm not here to discuss whether Labo is good or bad but I think selling 500k is very respectable.

If we write off sub 500k (or sub million) sellers as having "bombed" and never to be tried again we will be left with a shallow and uninspiring industry.

Re: Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aimé Talks About His Feelings On Leaks In Gaming

JamesR

I'm actually quite impressed by the lineup this year. I don't understand how a game goes from "great 3rd party support for the PS4/XBox" to being dismissed as "old ports" when coming to Switch in less than a year.

The Switch is getting Wolfenstein II, Dragonball FighterZ, Crash, The Fractured But Whole and Dark Souls Remastered pretty close to their PS4 release. I would love Switch releases day-and-date with other systems but a small delay doesn't completely invalidate the game.

Re: Review: Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition (Switch)

JamesR

Started playing Fire Emblem Warriors about a month back and have sunk 50 hours into it. I will be getting this after I complete history mode.

Strangely, I own Hyrule Warriors on Wii U and simply haven't found time to play it. The Switch changes everything.

Re: Review: Nintendo Labo: Toy-Con 02 - Robot Kit (Switch)

JamesR

I think it's wrong to consider these Labo kits as traditional games. They are a combination of toys, arts & crafts kit and computer games.

I really doubt there's much cross over with "hardcore gamers" but my kids loved them.

Overall I'm glad Nintendo is still experimenting. I doubt anyone expects/expected this to be a $100 million revenue stream. And that's OK.

Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Switch)

JamesR

I understand that people will always prefer to pay less for a game but I don't get why we should expect an "old re-release" to be super cheap. Whether you think the price is fair should surely be based on your enjoyment and not on the marginal development/distribution cost of this version.

We pay the same ticket price to watch movies at the cinema (even classic re-releases) despite huge variation in production budgets and it still costs £10 to buy a copy of Dark Side to the Moon (despite being decades old).
