Super Mario Odyssey has sold a whopping 10.41 million units on Switch since its launch, Nintendo has confirmed.
Arguably the Switch's lead title at Christmas, Super Mario Odyssey joins the console's "million seller" club, which now stands at an impressive 12 titles.
Zelda: Breath of the Wild stands at 8.48m - which makes it the best selling individual Zelda title, not including remasters - while Mario Kart 8 Deluxe managed 9.22 million units and Splatoon 2 hit 6.02 million.
Interestingly, the much-maligned 1-2-Switch has shifted 2.29 million copies since launch, besting Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (1.31 million), ARMS (1.85 million) and Pokkén Tournament DX (1.16 million).
On 3DS, Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon sold 7.51 million units worldwide. Combined software sales for the fiscal year reached 63.51 million units.

The attach rate for some of these games is just stupid.
Mario is such a beast in terms of sales. 10 million in 6 months is amazing.
Happy Xenoblade and Arms sold well.
Those are excellent numbers for Mario and MK8 DX. It'll be interesting to see if Nintendo puts out an original Mario Kart on Switch anytime soon.
Yay...!
Never ever underestimate 1-2-Switch.
That minigames and its hillarious...
Oh, btw i have an incoming call from my Joy Cons. Pardon...
Hello ?
So glad Xenoblade Chronicles 2 passed 1 million sold
Good news for full 3D Mario game lovers.
Could we now have "Galaxy 3" ?
@Anti-Matter That made me laugh
And to be fair, as much as I've griped about 1-2 Switch, I'd rather play that than Xenoblade Chronicles 2
"Nintendo is teh kiddie", right?
I'm just so happy Nintendo did so well this time around. Hopefully Furukawa will keep up the pace.
That’s a really great number for xenoblade. Does this make it the best selling in the series(including xenosaga)? Not bad for a single system JRPG
Amazing sales for Mario and Zelda, Mario Odyssey is a fantastic game as is Mario Kart 8 even if I'd prefer a new entry or even just some new content for it. 1-2 Switch is one of the worst games I've ever played and Warioware would have been better suited but a great start overall and now we just have to see if Nintendo can maintain that momentum.
On a side note it does make me wonder how many of these games Nintendo could sell as a third party developer
Shame on you people buying 1/2 Switch, shame!! Now Nintendo will think we want more of this crap!
Just who are these Clowns buying 1-2 Switch??
2.29 Million Really
Really glad to see Xenoblade 2 doing well. They aren't massive numbers, sure, but I'm still astounded by the fact that we got THREE instalments already in a relatively short period of time (four if you count the 3DS port).
Wonder what the other 4 million sellers are...
I'd love to know how many 1-2 Switch copies were sold during the first month, when games were so few that people would buy just anything.
@Marios-love-child
"Just who are these Clowns buying 1-2 Switch??
2.29 Million Really"
Me.
So the full top 10 goes :
Mario Odyssey
Mario Kart
Zelda
Splatoon
1-2 Switch
Arms
Xenoblade
Kirby
Pokken
Bomberman
@Spoony_Tech
"Shame on you people buying 1/2 Switch, shame!! Now Nintendo will think we want more of this crap!"
Pardon...
I have interest with 1-2-Switch.
The minigames were really Hilarious.
I like funny games.
@Anti-Matter
haha Touche
Bomberman is the only game I regret buying for Switch. The single player is garbage and when you can manage to get a game online I've yet to find 3 other players.
1-2 Switch isn't that great. I played it once and wasn't impressed. But I've only played it once so I can't say anything. 😂
ARMS is so much better and more deserving on that 2 mil. But it still sold well for a new IP, so I can't complain. Long live ARMS!
"1-2-Switch has outsold Xenoblade Chronicles 2, ARMS and Pokkén DX"
A crime if I ever saw one.
@Tibob it's around 950k in the launch month. You can see this by taking its FY numbers 1.34m from lifetime 2.29m (both are in the full year report)
I am astonished at how well 1-2-Switch is selling.
@AcridSkull trade it in while it has some value. I traded mine last month.
I played 3 hours or even less and that was it.
I do wish we had a breakdown of regions for 1-2 Switch sales. Definitely seems like a game that would attract through its novelty and I can’t help this feeling that most would come from Japan. Even Wii Sports wasn’t bundled at sold huge numbers there.
Kinda hoped Xenoblade would have reached 2 million; 1.5 million even. Not yet tried 1-2 Switch but from what I’ve seen I’d have trouble spending more than £25 tops (preferably £20).
1-2 switch laughing to the bank.
Big surprise
@Anti-Matter They're buying it because the Switch doesn't have a Mario Party game yet.
The problem with 1 2 Switch is that at most, it should have been a $20 game, if not bundled. But, I guess Nintendo has no regrets given how many people bought it. Nintendo Land was a far better game. 1 2 Switch looked like a beta for the system.
Glad to see good sales for XC2. It hasn't been out for that long so let's hope it racks up loads more sales over time.
Very impressive for Mario Odyssey and Zelda! I'm sure there is fun to be had with 1 2 switch I would probably buy it as an impulse purchase if I saw it for $20 or less. The fact that it's still selling for $40-50 if ridiculous.
@1UP_MARIO I would but I bought it digitally when it was 50% off
Xenoblade deserves at least 5 million sold copies! One of the best Switch Games currently!
No offense to the people who bought 1-2 Switch, but... Why.jpg. As much as I would have liked it to be a good game, it's just... Overpriced, simple and shallow. I tried it at a friend's place just to see if it was at all worth it and I am super happy I never even thought of buying it.
I can understand how XBC2 doesn't have more sales though. You can say what you will about 1-2 Switch, but it is polished. XBC2... Not so much. Especially that jarring lack of sound effects, ugh. People running/walking in cutscenes, no audio. Giant-ass airship takes off... Silently? Not a single peep? Wow. That's one stealthy airship.
All-in-all the sales look nice and positive though.
"Arguably the Switch's lead title at Christmas, Super Mario Odyssey joins the console's "million seller" club, which now stands at an impressive 12 titles."
...Wait twelve? Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda, Splatoon, 1,2 Switch, ARMS, Xenoblade 2, Kirby, and Pokken. What's the other three? I mean maybe Sonic Mania but that's multi-plat (although undoubtedly it sold best on Switch).
Well done Xenoblade. Hopefully it'll get a few hundred thousand more before its sales dry up.
@ieatdragonz DOOM is one of them as well.
Not sure about the other 2. Maybe Skyrim and Rayman Legends?
I know Xenoblade is more of a niche title, but hearing that my favorite game on Switch was outsold by the bad joke that is 1-2 SHOULDHAVEBEENPACKEDINWITHTHESYSTEM Switch... just leaves me feeling a tad salty...
@Yasume Thinking back, it may be Mario Rabbids. I say maybe because Ubisoft keeps it sales close to their chest.
Although I can't find any source to that Doom million claim. I thought Skyrim sold more than it?
Thats still only ten or maybe eleven, really whats that last one? Bomberman? Snipperclips? Or was I right with them counting Sonic Mania?
@ieatdragonz it's a bit of a mystery (and without the third party publishers stating their numbers we may never know).
I think it is Rabbids, Bomberman and Skyrim (in addition to the 9 Nintendo published ones). But maybe FIFA?
You know what I'm going to try asking @Damo
Where'd you get that twelve million seller titles number? I can't find it in the financial report whatsoever.
@ieatdragonz https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2018/180426e.pdf
"The results for this fiscal year show a very positive trend in global hardware sales for Nintendo Switch, which sold a total of 15.05
million units during this fiscal year. On the software end, Super Mario Odyssey has been a major hit with audiences worldwide, and
sold 10.41 million units. This is in addition to 9.22 million units sold for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and 6.02 million units sold for Splatoon
2, bringing the total number of million-seller titles during this fiscal year to 12, including the titles of other software publishers. The
combined software sales results for this fiscal year reached 63.51 million units."
Its great to see the Xenoblade series finally taking off, XC2 is a great game.
But to see that 1-2 Switch sold more than it should be some kind of crime.
Hopefully the Xenoblade sales will encourage a XENOBLADE X remake for Switch!
@Anti-Matter Sorry, but I do underestimate 1-2 Switch. From my point of view, the minigames are dull and repetitive.
Alcohol, friends and 1 2 Switch mixes well.
@Damo Must've skipped over that line, thanks. Still begs the question what the other million sellers are.
Zelda Breath of the Wild has sold 10 million copies when you include the Wii U version, making it the best-selling Zelda game of all time. Even if you ignore the Wii U version, it would still take that record.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the 2nd fastest Mario Kart game ever, behind Mario Kart Wii. It sold nearly 1.9 million copies during Q1 2018 alone. If this pace continues, it will outsell Mario Kart 7 within the next 2 years. Amazing for an upgraded Wii U port.
Mario Odyssey is about ~2.3 million copies away from outselling Mario Galaxy to become the best-selling 3D Mario game of all time.
Glad to see ARMS closing in on the 2 million mark. Especially as a new IP with a different style of gameplay.
The sells of 1-2-Switch vs Xenoblade Chronicles 2 have got me thinking that even though there are gamers on gaming sites voice opinions, there are even more who are offline and don't interact on social media like us, or as "hardcore". Just remembering all the non gamers/techies in my life
@Agent721 I can second that. I've gotten my $60 worth from two particular alcohol-fueled all-nighters with my roommate and his brothers.
Fake Draw, Samurai Training, and the sword fighting one got over pretty well.
@SpeedRunRocks
Exactly! Got some great and funny videos to match!
Cheers!
@Marios-love-child
The filthy casuals.
I wish I could have first seen Mario wearing his Sunshine outfit in the game instead of in a thumbnail. That could have been a wonderful surprise.
And I wish I didn't know anything about the final battle, but alas, that is not the case thanks to inconsiderate thumbnails posed by people who want clicks. Dirtbags such as ProsafiaGaming come to mind.
I really hate the Internet sometimes. Precious first time experiences and wonder in gaming is largely extinct thanks to the bozos who won't shut up about it online.
...@$$#0les...
@Marios-love-child the late night fully drunk after party players
@Matthew010
Try Telephone, Wizard, Quick Draw, Milk, Fake Draw, Gorilla, Spinning Plate, Baby.
They are funny to do.
@Anti-Matter Trust me, I have.
Can’t wait for 1 2 Switch 2.
It’ll be the one to switch to once it releases.
Something quite interesting is that BOTW was at 6.7 million at the end of December(not including the WiiU Version). So it's sold 1.78 million between Jan and the end of March. Super Mario Odyssey was at 9.07 million so it sold 1.37 million in the same period.
That's some incredible sales for a year old game. I think it's very possible that BOTW's sales remain so enduring it might actually end up surpassing Super Mario Odyssey at some point which would be astounding.
@Spoony_Tech that is my thoughts also.
A lot of people that bought it, I imagine we’re probably non avid gamers. And those that saw the adds thinking it was amazing.
I don’t mind them doing something different. But I’d rather they put focus still on their graveyard full of games.
I'm glad ARMS is on the way to 2 mil...such a great game.
I'm personally glad that Pokkén Tournament DX passed 1 million too! Being an enhanced port released among much bigger titles I feared it would have found little success, risking to block the development of this concept that I actually like a lot!
Nice to see Xenoblade creeping towards 1.5M. RPG machine mode engage!
The 12 financial year million-sellers are listed in the Earnings Release referenced at the bottom of the article. I'm too dumb to post the table to the forum, but in addition to the ones listed in the article they are:
Kirby Star Allies (NS) - 1.26 million
MK 7 (3DS) - 1.82 million
New Super Mario Bros. 2 (3DS) - 1.33 million
I wonder how close Skyrim, Doom and Mario + Rabbids were. Also, more people should buy Snipperclips.
@gaga64 Bomberman, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Rabbids... And then I would guess Minecraft, Stardew Valley or maybe Rocket League.
@roboshort makes sense, but wouldn’t Nintendo have listed Warriors, Rabbids or even Pokken in their report if those were the ones? They may not be first party developed, but they’re still Nintendo’s own IP whose ongoing success is worth noting to shareholders, surely?
@gaga64 Oh. I didn't notice that Pokken wasn't listed. I don't think it's a matter of them not being developed by Nintendo, I think it's more a matter of them not being published by Nintendo. Pokken, FE Warriors, and Mario + Rabbids were all not published by Nintendo so far as I know. They were published by Pokemon, Koei, and Ubisoft, I think, so those announcements should be in the reports for those companies. I think if Bayonetta 2 had reached 1 million, Nintendo would have reported it.
@JohnQuixote
VGZcharts has listed for 2018 so far
Elder Scrolls SKYRIM 740,000 copies sold
DOOM 310,000 copies sold
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom 1.8 MILLION copies sold
Snipperclips PLUS 80,000 copies sold
...Snipperclips seems more like something that should have been a GIVE AWAY TOSS IN for buying the SWITCH...
...UBISOFT is by far the LARGEST 3RD PARTY publisher...not quite sure what else they can bring over...they already did RAYMAN LEGENDS...
...DOOM & SKYRIM sold 1.05 MILLION combined for BETHESDA...we're getting WOLFENSTEIN II...but the question is if ZENIMAX decides to develop any games for the SWITCH...granted it's only been less than 1 year for game sales...
...on a SIDENOTE, looks like EA for the SWITCH sold 740,000 copies of FIFA 2K18...and 330,000 copies of NBA2K...
...not sure if these numbers will ENTICE EA to bring any other games...but it's still early...year 3-4 of the SWITCH will be important in terms of number of consoles sold...
...I'm kinda worried that DEVELOPERS are making such HUGE GAMES now (in terms of GB), that the SWITCH with it's 32GB internal storage would be a detriment...
...I think the original TITANFALL was over 50GB...and that was in the early 2010s...
...but when I see MONSTER HUNTER WORLD come in UNDER 20 GB, it gives me hope...
@westman98 Late to the party, I've been out of the country and catching up on articles - but Kirby at 1.26m? Wasn't that supposed to "fall off a cliff" after a week in Japan? I think we both laughed at that prediction.
Edit: To add to that, MK8 Deluxe outselling the Wii U original, another game people saw as a pointless port.
@moavi
Vgchartz is a woefully inaccurate source of information. Please don't use it.
@WiltonRoots
The "fall off a cliff" attitude mantra is truly stupid. Seems like people can't comprehend that a product they don't personally enjoy can be successful for more than 5 seconds.
And yeah, Mario Kart 8 DX's success has been remarkable. Not only has it outsold its Wii U original, it is outperforming the sales pace of every Mario Kart game except the Wii entry. I believe that makes it the 2nd best-selling full-priced port ever, behind GTAV. So yeah, not so pointless after all...
@westman98
...I actually CONFIRMED it a 2nd TIME off NINTENDO's FINANCIAL STATEMENTS...off their JAPAN WEBSITE...
@moavi sad thing is those numbers are crazy unreliable, that's why VGChartz is listed as an unreliable source.
