Re: Footballing Legend Marco van Basten Is Pulled From FIFA 20 Following Nazi "Joke"

Iacobus

"Free Speech and say what you want is not the same!"

You might as well be saying any of these:

2 + 2 = 5
War is Peace
Freedom is Slavery
Ignorance is Strength

Orwell wouldn't have been able to write classics like 1984 or Animal Farm for fear of offending the advocates for our dear so-called allies at the time, the Soviet Union (which killed FAR more people than the Nazis ever did; the only difference was that the Nazis were a little bit more creative). There were even publishers that tried to discredit the effort Orwell made in his satire as they refused to publish Animal Farm. (Read the Appendices to Animal Farm as they're fascinating reads because it could easily apply today. As Orwell brilliantly said, "Make a habit of imprisoning Fascists without trial, and perhaps the process won't stop at Fascists.")

It's all or nothing, mensch. Being able to say something that may offend people is something that should be self-regulated, not enforced by the self-righteous busybodies that seem to infest today's society. (For a good cross-reference, check out Twitter sometime and witness the cancer.)

Re: New Animal Crossing: New Horizons Screenshots Reveal More Series-First Customisation Options

Iacobus

At first, I wasn't sure what to think of the new nose shapes but I like them; at least they fit within the design. The triangle nose will always be iconic to me, though.

@KIRO You mean playing with someone on the same system? Nintendo did a presentation of this (back at E3?); it's sort of like how Luigi's Mansion 3 does it. The camera will follow both of you until the second player reaches a certain point, then will warp to the main character (the one that owns the island).

March seems like an infinity away. Can't wait to play this with my Mom and my brother. My brother and I got my Mom a Switch to get her ready. (She's been playing other casual games like Farm Together in the meantime, which she likes a lot.)

Re: After Claiming 95% Of All Hardware Sold In Japan Last Week, Nintendo Apologises Over Ring Fit Adventure Shortages

Iacobus

Way better than Wii Fit, which felt gimmicky by comparison. I'm already seeing results and I'm only 20 days in as I didn't pick up the game at launch. (49 years old; wasn't overweight but I wanted to at least start something beneficial.) The kicker is that I don't feel like I'm killing myself in the process. (I'm at 24 difficulty.)

To anyone who thinks of all this as tedious work, it's exercise. You have to work at it. Very much like going to the gym, setting goals and all that.

I actually like the custom and minigame parts rather than the adventure part but that's not bad at all either. The only thing I don't like is that they don't flow into each other too well.

Say you want to do some Adventure with some Custom afterward. You can do that, of course, but you'll be forced to skip the cool down of Adventure and the warm-up of Custom each time.

ON EDIT: Forgot to mention: If you get this game, also get an exercise mat if you don't already have one. Thank me later as you won't grind your elbows into a hard floor while doing planks. xD

Re: Sakurai On Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Becoming Best-Selling Fighting Game of All Time

Iacobus

@Trajan Comparing DS to BotW is...kind of hilarious. They're definitely not in the same league. BotW stands on its own due to its design and paradigm, all without relying on star power or product branding let alone self-indulgent storytelling that should've been pared down. You say, "slow burn," where I say, "should've hired a story editor".

Seriously, is there anything to do in DS once you're done? I can go back in BotW and do another play-though and its not even the same. As many hours as I've put into BotW, I still haven't seen everything, despite having all the shrines. I have so many undiscovered areas on my map. And I still play it and fully expect to return to it after I get done with Olive's files in Chapter 12 of Astral Chain. (This is after I just got all the gems and Boos in Luigi's Mansion 3. I still need to go after the rare ghosts in ScareScraper.)

Re: Sakurai On Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Becoming Best-Selling Fighting Game of All Time

Iacobus

I hope this game kicks the pants off of Death Stranding at the Game Awards.

#TeamSmash

Yeah, I said it. Come at me, bros.

In all seriousness, I have no idea who the next DLC fighter will be. I'm not a fanatic for this game but all I know is how much love went into it. At least I don't walk around delivering packages drinking Monster Energy with celebrities I don't care about. /sips coffee

Re: Japanese Charts: Luigi's Mansion 3 Still Can't Grab Number One As Death Stranding Takes Over

Iacobus

@Angelic_Lapras_King Adventure isn't the only mode Ring Fit Adventure has; you can still incorporate the minigames and custom lists of exercises you want to concentrate and work on. The game has legs, so to speak, long after you've done Adventure.

@AxeltheCorvikni As someone who didn't "get" Minecraft before, there's multiple reasons: Minecraft can be a straight-up survival game, a creative game or a game to enjoy modded (like many of the PvP games on the servers). That and the game is especially fun when played with friends and family in any mode.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey's Wedding amiibo Are Being Restocked In North America And Japan

Iacobus

@Daniel36 It's always been twofold to me: I'm not a collector but I like how they look, plus some bennies on the side. I've heard some use them in crafting like dioramas.

I have the Bowser wedding Amiibo and it's amazingly detailed. The fact that it points out purple coins is an awesome bonus because I'm pretty sure I'd rip my hair out trying to find them without a guide. I also have some Animal Crossing Amiibos; don't know how beneficial they'll be with New Horizons coming; no info's been shared as of yet.

Re: Monkey Ball Director Loved Astral Chain, Was Inspired By Takahisa Taura "To Improve"

Iacobus

Really liked Astral Chain even with its quirks. (Wonky battle camera that allows walls to get in the way; way too many commands/controls that don't seem to trigger like you want them to. Almost unfair fights in File 12.) I had my 70 hours of fun and got the Lazy Cat Cap anyway.

Hopefully, Platinum will improve upon it in a sequel. Now give us Bayonetta 3, pretty please. My favorite badass witch wants to dance, boys!

Re: Fighting Over What's 'Indie' And 'AAA' Harms The Industry, Says Sonic Mania And Cadance Of Hyrule Artist

Iacobus

If it's one thing I miss, it's those small teams that made near-legendary games, investors be damned. (Think of LucasArts in their heyday; Blizzard Entertainment when they were just a handful of people.)

It seems these days so-called "AAA" games are being made with the budgets of Hollywood movies. Is that a good thing or bad thing? I don't know. I just miss the intimacy of development teams making games because that's what they loved doing. Indie developers seem to be doing this but for some reason it doesn't have that same feel to me.

Re: Reggie Calls Wii U A "Failure Forward" Because It Led To Switch

Iacobus

I wanted a Wii U but I was waiting on an Animal Crossing title to be announced...which ended up being Amiibo Festival. Imagine my disappointment.

Still, I came this close to picking up one anyway so I could play Mario Kart 8...and the rest is history as I'm glad I waited for the Switch. (I'm especially glad Nintendo decided to port some Wii U titles over which would have been criminal otherwise between Mario Kart 8 and Zelda: Breath of the Wild alone.)

Re: Random: Japan's Favourite Nintendo Character Devours The Competition Once More

Iacobus

I practically love them all, especially Isabelle. @Seananigans As least she's there, so there's that. It kind of surprises me, though, since she's a newer character in the Animal Crossing series to see her there.

Watching the crowd's reaction at Nintendo New York as Kirby escaped from being turned into a Spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has to be one of my favorite gaming moments.

Re: Random: Reddit User Claims To Have Received A Switch Lite With Two 'Y' Buttons

Iacobus

The owner mentions that pressing this particular Y button "feels" wrong (e.g., feels hard to press), so it's entirely possible that the wrong button got inserted during assembly. It'll probably break as a result if not careful.

I can tell just from looking at the image that the Y button in B's place obviously doesn't belong there; it's sinking lower than the others.

The Y buttons do NOT look the same; look at how the light plays on each button from the southeastern corner. Anomalies/mistakes in manufacturing can happen.

ON EDIT: Whups, meant to type Y instead of B... xD

Re: Blizzard Had Its Sights On A Switch Port Of Overwatch From Day One

Iacobus

"Nintendo games are typically very bright, very saturated, very hopeful..."

I know the guy said, "typically," but he hasn't obviously played Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem or Bayonetta. lol

@Paraka I don't love or hate Overwatch because I never played it (and I don't really care about it). What I can tell people is that I don't like Blizzard itself anymore, especially after the World of Warcraft debacles like when they first announced there would be no more flying in their WoW expansions going forward from Warlords of Draenor. That earned them a lot of animosity and lost subscriptions, even after backtracking---sort of, since they only allowed players to fly after doing a ridiculous achievement that would only unlock towards the end of that expansion and called it a "compromise."

This would probably be where a lot of the hate comes from. There's also the early days of Diablo III (the Real Money Auction House) and Jay Wilson's "eff that loser" comment about Dave Brevik (co-founder of Blizzard and the Diablo series).

Re: Anniversary: The Original Super Mario Bros. Launched On NES 34 Years Ago Today

Iacobus

Still remember when I bought a copy before I actually bought the Deluxe system (the one with R.O.B. and the Zapper) at Zayre. (A popular, local department store chain.) Was working at Burger King at the time as a teenager---15 at the time---so I saved up my money and got the game first as I was eager. I must have read that manual from front to back so many times. xD

Re: Astral Chain Writer Talks About How The Game's Story Was Put Together

Iacobus

My jaw dropped when I did my first sync combo with the Beast Legion...into another combo...into another combo. It was an adrenaline rush a la Bayonetta. Awesome stuff.

I still feel like an idiot, though. I plan on spending some time in the simulator so I can get more S+'s. xD

I kind of also wish there was more time for the "finish" move. I try to be careful as a result so I don't miss it as it's really easy to do so otherwise.

Re: Overwatch Coming To Nintendo Switch In October, Physical Version Is A Code In A Box

Iacobus

@BarefootBowser You know, I never measured the data being used with Splatoon 2. I imagine it's low, even if using the LAN adapter.

In any case, I've never had issues while using the LAN adapter in Splatoon 2 (or any other game for that matter). The only issue even when using a wired connection is well-known: Other players disconnecting. Constantly. Usually on my team too, which is always fun. xD

Re: Talking Point: With Overwatch Apparently Switch-Bound, The Future's Bright For Blizzard And Nintendo

Iacobus

I'm over Blizzard's games. Used to be a huge Diablo and World of Warcraft fan/player. Gave up on both, especially World of Warcraft when it was clear they didn't want someone like me playing.

I leaned more towards the casual side even though I was raiding regularly. I used to love just flying around and resource-gather for my professions...until Warlords of Draenor, when they decided there wasn't going to be anymore flying. When players protested, they "compromised" and gated the living daylights out of flying (behind an achievement that wouldn't unlock flying until they decided to do so, usually towards the end of that expansion). I tried to give it another chance with Legion, but I decided enough was enough.

I'm happy for you that were waiting for this, though.

Re: Random: This Morpeko Reversible Pokémon Plush Is Adorable But Very Expensive

Iacobus

@JayJ You're not only paying for materials, but also time plus talent and craftsmanship, which are the key words here. Let's not fool ourselves; not just anyone can make these by hand. It takes some skill, so that makes her an artist.

Adding to that, I would gather that since these are made by hand, no two are exactly alike, making them unique. They're certainly not cheap-looking.

As mentioned before, I bought a high-quality polarizer for my camera that I paid a premium for. Sure, I could have bought a cheap, Chinese-made one but I'm into supporting true craftsmanship, not companies looking for a quick turnaround.

Re: Random: This Morpeko Reversible Pokémon Plush Is Adorable But Very Expensive

Iacobus

I paid about $350 for a circular polarizer from Lee Filters which are made in England. I paid that price because I like quality. Taking a cursory glance at the seller's page, I imagine the same applies here.

Yes, it's just a plushie. A very high-quality plushie made by hand. It doesn't take seconds to make these things, folks. She has to eat. If you have the nerve to denigrate what an artist charges based upon what (garbage) comes out of China...well...all I can suggest is stop wagging your finger.

Re: Review: DOOM II - It's Hell On Earth With This Devilishly Playable Switch Port

Iacobus

I would say the super shotgun isn't as minor as the review says it is; it one-shots enemies at close range that would take two with the shotgun. True, it's risky to get closer, but you takes your chances if you know what you're doing.

Also, on the map "Dead Simple," did anyone notice the mancubus fireballs clipping through some of the walls? I got one-shot when trying to take cover and I was certain I took refuge. I don't remember that being in the DOS version back in the day.

Re: Pearl And Team Chaos Win The Final Splatoon 2 Splatfest

Iacobus

Team Chaos! Wooomy! I won a 10x match too!

The Pro match percentage was really close. I was surprised to see Chaos won in popularity, too. I thought for sure Order had that.

As much as I like the Splatfests, my one big gripe is that I could never use Ninja Squid thanks to the requirement of using the Ability Doubler shirt. Would make all the difference with certain weapons.

I love using Ninja Squid with the Aerosprays; nothing says you screwed up like me getting into your territory and going to town with ink unmolested. lol At least there's still Turf Wars.

Re: Review: Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble - Finally, A True Successor To Advance Wars Emerges

Iacobus

@construx Not sure myself; moving a unit into an APC seems weird as a result too. Still, they function as they should. Maybe it'll grow on me. Maybe I'll contact the devs and ask them to possibly tweak it.

And +1 on the Advance Wars comparison. This is what I wanted from Wargroove. (They could have made it 2D and I still would love it.)

If anyone didn't know: While trying the demo, if you buy the full game at any point, you can continue where you left off from the demo in the full game! (I got to the second mission before I was convinced.)

Re: Reminder: The Final Splatoon 2 Splatfest Is Now Underway

Iacobus

I've yet to encounter lag in a Splatfest but I have encountered it before in other modes. Not often, though; it's pretty rare.

(Full disclosure: I usually play docked with a LAN adapter. Latency is usually in the single digits to low teens, which is pretty good since it's Xfinity/Comcast.) lol

#TeamChaos!

Re: Review: Tiny Metal: Full Metal Rumble - Finally, A True Successor To Advance Wars Emerges

Iacobus

I didn't like Wargroove all that much. (I did like Caesar, the cute little doggo, though!) Played about 10 hours total or so before I lost interest. There was just something...off about it. The units felt weird to me. I loved the military theme Advance Wars had. The fantasy theme in Wargroove just felt wacky.

I'm so used to Advance Wars that I just couldn't wrap my head around the rules Wargroove had. (I definitely don't like how cities work, for example, or even how pikemen worked.) To each his own, of course.

I'll have to give this a shot.

Re: Random: Everyone On This Southwest Flight Got A Nintendo Switch For Free

Iacobus

@retro_player_22 Mmm...but we're talking thousands of charges before most of us have decided to move on. Six years is some time, especially for mobile electronics. The Switch is almost three years old (since launch). I can guarantee we're going to have a successor before six years.

Granted, anyone that's into collecting or wanting to keep and maintain their systems isn't going to have a fun time but that's the nature of the beast.

Re: Soapbox: Nintendo Switch Lite Might Not Be For You, But It Will Be A Smash Hit With My Family

Iacobus

The isn't for me but I'm glad others will want it...

...SUCKERS! jk jk

In all seriousness, I can't help but think how this model was hobbled. Sure, you can connect Joy-Con to it to play Super Mario Party...but there's no kickstand. And for the price you pay just to get a set of Joy-Cons to supplement the Lite, why not just go all the way and get the real deal in the first place?

How many people will know this? I can just picture frazzled GameStop employees having to answer questions and settle issues for the nth time.
