Just want to chime in that I love the Mario & Luigi series and would snap up a Switch version. I just think it's the situation this game found itself in, is all.
@Heavyarms55 I have that case that uses a bi-fold design and holds 8 games. Has various designs on the outside like a Pow block. Can't remember who made it offhand. (Might be PowerA.) Material inside is like a soft rubber that holds the cards nicely.
I didn't like the Hori high-capacity case for the reason you mentioned. Felt like I was going to break my games sometimes. xD
@DarthFoxMcCloud Don't expect too much when it comes to comparisons to Advance Wars. While it's true Chucklefish took inspiration from AW, they're nothing too alike. I would say it feels totally odd to do this since the mechanics are different. Still a pretty good game though.
(I'd kill to get the original AW games on the Switch.)
@Heavyarms55 Actually, it was a very valid tactic in multiplayer. (No self-respecting player would play without fog of war enabled or certain COs would dominate.) You just had to watch out for it by watching the back door. An unwary Infantry or Mech approaching could find themselves the target of an Artillery unit.
@Spiders Part of Advance Wars' appeal was being able to sneak behind enemy lines with just one unit (an Infantry or a Mech) and capture the HQ if the enemy wasn't ready. There's zero of that happening here as you cannot even think of approaching unless you have a really strong unit to simply destroy their command.
I'm just not feeling it. I much preferred Advance Wars' simplicity.
@MadMaestroNole +1 on trying to distinguish what a unit's strengths and weakness were when fighting other units.
If I recall, Advance Wars did this by having a pop-up list of what the unit's strengths and weaknesses were. There was no question after looking at it.
@Fake-E-Lee It's not just you; as an Advance Wars veteran that's played the series since its US debut, I'd have to say that it's beyond the reach of the average gamer that wanted to pick this up for casual play. The difficulty ramps up quite a bit after like the 3rd or 4th map. It did not go unnoticed by me.
Some of the game's rules leave me bewildered; I'm quite used to capturing cities and other structures with my ground troops the way Advance Wars did it, not to mention "healing" those units by simply parking the unit in a city (as long as I had the resources). I do not like capturing something outright and then having to park my unit and THEN having to command to "heal" it using its own health, thereby leaving the structure vulnerable. It's just...too clunky.
The game's units and their abilities...I'm still not entirely sold on the idea of how the units gel together when it comes to "crits." (For example, Pikemen do a lot more damage if they're next to each other or if Battlepups are attacking the same unit.) Again, a little too clunky for me. I much prefer Advance Wars' way of KISS'ing. (Infantry is Infantry; Mech is Mech and so on. There are no bonuses other than what the CO bestows upon them, like Grit's ability to extend the range of indirect-attack units or Max's direct attack power.)
Also, my memory's fuzzy on this, but I could have sworn Advance Wars would show you where you could move and where you could attack separately. I absolutely do not like the way the two are mixed together in Wargroove; it's confusing, not to mention there are rules in place that prevent a ranged unit from attacking like it should be able to. e.g., In Advance Wars, when an Artillery unit was positioned, it didn't matter where it was so as long the enemy was within range. On a mountain, on the plains, on the plains behind a mountain, it didn't matter.
There seems to be some kind of rule where if a mountain is in the way, I can't indirectly fire on that enemy, even if in range. (Unless I missed something.)
And can they please change the damage modifiers, or get rid of them entirely? If I see 100% damage, then it should be a flat 100% damage, not a possible +5% or -5% modifier to that damage, meaning the attack could be 95% or 105%. The former has me rage a lot because it could make or break a battle. It's bad enough I have to fight the already-nasty difficulty.
But other than that, the game's presentation is top-notch. (I love the Battlepups, because dogs. We do not deserve dogs.) Overall, I still like Advance Wars a lot more (especially Dual Strike) but this doesn't make a bad substitute. It just needs work.
Definitely got him as part of the pre-order bonus.
You can really cheese some fights with PP's down special. I was able to clear two legendary spirits on the spirit board with him (it?) just using that move alone. xD
I've been playing Splatoon 2 since day one. One thing I've recently noticed is that matches seem really tight. Very rarely is there a shut-out. I win and lose due to last-second overtime pushes a lot. (It hurts when you lose this way but...you gots to roll with the punches. At least a fight was put up. It's more fun that way.)
Note that I'm currently S+ in all modes except Clam Blitz, where I'm at S.
I wish in the vein of good sportsmanship that there was a way of congratulating or GG'ing your opponents after a match. We have it for other games, why not Splatoon 2?
Salmon Run is still hit or miss when it comes to teams and what to do. I feel like I'm the only one who makes beelines for Stingers sometimes. xD
Is there Fog of War in this like Advance Wars had? I didn't see it anywhere in the videos and reviews I've checked out so far. (I'm not sure if it's important. Advance Wars' game design demanded it, especially for PvP, unless people liked the idea of getting bombarded by an army under Grit while they approached. lol )
@SleeplessKnight Whenever someone tells me that user scores are unreliable, I always think of that chick from GameSpot that gave Gone Home a masterpiece-level, glowing review. lol
This list is laughable. Why, you ask? It's the fact they only use critic scores and not user scores. The user reviews for Battlefield V alone would probably take EA right out. lol
By the time I was equipped to the hilt with guardian armor, Guardians are nothing more than a nuisance to me now. I actually now run to them when I see one because free cores.
My only complaint with the NES games is that there's no manual to reference for a particular game. I had to futz around in the Adventures of Lolo like pushing buttons before I figured out what was going on. xD
It's weird to have this conversation when, for example, the home lights on the Joy-Con and on the Pro Controller aren't even being implemented yet. The only time I got to see them light up is when I connected them to my PC to use on Steam. (They have a nice hue, by the way.) xD
(And what about the USB 3.0 support? Whatever happened to that? It's not a big deal, per se, but it's...weird.)
I could maybe see a hardware revision where the system is more powerful (like they did with the 3DS)...but I don't see that happening anytime too soon.
And as far as the fracturing the hybrid nature behind the Switch? Yeah, no. How in the world is one supposed to play Super Mario Party with joy-cons that don't detach? lol
@Kidfunkadelic83 There's things that the game won't exactly tell you about unless you go looking for them as well. For example, Bowser's up air special lets you tap special (B button) a few more times for a little more air (and damage if you're juggling an enemy). When he does his down special, anyone that gets hit by his horns when he goes up gets damaged.
Be sure to go through the move lists when in Training and the Tips section as well out in the menu. Lots of great info in there.
@whanvee There's more that isn't immediately known unless you look for it. e.g., With Bowser, did you know that with the Up + Air Special, if you tap Special (B button) a few more times during the move, you can get a little more air (and hits if any enemy is around) vertically?
BotW, Odyssey and MK8D were all day-one purchases for me. In addition, Splatoon 2 was also a day-one purchase, though I never played the series before. Smash Ultimate was also day one.
And when Animal Crossing's release date is finally announced, I'm so pre-ordering the living daylights out of that one. lol
Just to add to the debate about the Wii U: I had really wanted to get it myself but I was waiting for a proper Animal Crossing game...and waiting...and waiting...so I just skipped over it. I actually had some trepidation when I bought my Switch because no Animal Crossing game was properly announced at the time but I wanted to play the other games anyway. It was simply Nintendo's time to shine after languishing for a bit.
As much as l love the idea of the collection, I can't help but think some of those titles are gimped by not having controls like Tempest had. (That lovely, smooth analog dial...ahh...memories...)
I tried doing that Yarn Kirby level in Adventure mode with Isabelle and Donkey Kong with many a fail. (It's the one where there's four Yoshis at 9000+ power and you can be launched easily.)
Know what worked?
Jigglypuff and her wonderful neutral special.
I kind of don't want to hear what's "top tier" when it's garbage in this case.
Preordered Ultimate just because I want to beat the hell out of other players as a passive-aggressive Isabelle.
@Dualmask Go in with the expectation you would have with any game: Just have fun. I was never into the so-called competitive aspect of Smash myself. I just liked beating the living daylights out of others in a free-for-all, even if I lost. It's part of its barbaric, bloodless charm. 8D

You kids and your boredom! Where's your imagination? lol
Part of the appeal is finding how the classes and jobs work together. If exploring these options is not your thing, well...it's just not a game for you.
I finished the game with all eight classes and got all the secret jobs. Did the final boss, Galdera, too. Entirely optional, of course but I had to experience the nightmare fuel for myself.
The only thing? The game doesn't offer anything more afterward. You can just go about your business and battle to your heart's content if you want to but by that time you'll ROFLstomp everything. I got my 120 hours worth anyway.
Maybe it's just me but I thought some of the battle music was a little off. It was great, don't get me wrong, but it felt out of place compared to the rest of the music. (The final battle music with Galdera was epic in nature compared to it.)
I'm very interested to know what Main Power Up will do for chargers, my main category of weapon. ("Shots are now hitscan!" Yeah, even I realize that isn't going to happen. lol )
End of an era, as they say. Didn't most or all of the team that worked on the Splatoon series also do Animal Crossing? Maybe they're working on the Switch version more intensely next? 8D
ON EDIT: Oh, and seriously? Main Power Up on the Splat Roller increases damage? Like...it wasn't doing enough damage to begin with? lol
@Elvie They kind of did but it's mostly "tips & tricks"-type deals. Go to primagames.com to get a look.
It is kind of sad, to be honest. The ones they did for Animal Crossing were pretty good. My Mom completed her bug, painting and fish collections because of them.
I wish Bandai Namco gave the full treatment with Namco Arcade; I'd love to peruse archive material from that era. (Actually, I'd just love another volume from them for the Switch, especially one with Ms. Pac-Man.)
@rjejr There's some psychological horror as well. There are situations where people are massacred by the masses, horribly, as well as being turned into something grotesque. It's somewhat bleak...if you don't include the infamous Whimsyshire, that is. xD
@WhoaManWtF The original Diablo? There just weren't impaled bodies in hell...they were impaled naked bodies (even the men).
There was some nudity in the enemies as well, like the Succubi.
I played Diablo III to death on the PC. Part of its appeal was the never-ending quest to find better pieces of your gear as well as besting your last rift run.
I guess I'm glad it's on the Switch, especially in this form rather than that abomination that was the original release. (Anyone remember the real-money auction house? Pepperidge Farm remembers.) lol
@JoeDiddley No, this was it. Would have been neat if they scheduled it closer to Halloween, though.
My matches were 50/50 in terms of wins/losses for Team Trick. I played Normal. Those numbers are so close in that bracket...
I didn't have any problems getting matches but there was one team that stomped us so hard it was demoralizing (on Shifty Station, no less). I wished I had learned of the shortcut to the enemy side to the left before that. xD
I remember trying that service once that went belly-up that let you play games via streaming. (Can't remember the name offhand; name escapes me.) It was...interesting. In the end, I didn't really care, just like I don't care about games like Assassin's Creed. lol
I played this and its sequel but not the other two. Great games, very moody. I just may continue the series if they release 3 and Old Sins for the Switch.

Have the annual plan. I plan on upgrading to the family plan so I can play Animal Crossing with my Mom and my brother.
Re: Splatoon 2's Worldwide Halloween Splatfest Saw Team Treat Pull The Victory Out Of The Bag
I wished I had learned of the shortcut to the enemy side to the left before that. xD
Re: Video: Cloud Gaming Is Viable In The Future Based On This Assassin's Creed Odyssey Review
I remember trying that service once that went belly-up that let you play games via streaming. (Can't remember the name offhand; name escapes me.) It was...interesting. In the end, I didn't really care, just like I don't care about games like Assassin's Creed. lol
Re: Random: Hollywood Legend John Carpenter Doesn't Think Much Of Nintendo Labo
Halloween, The Fog, Escape from New York and The Thing are my favorite movies by him. Assault on Precinct 13 (the original) was really good, too.
He's just giving an opinion, nothing more.
Re: Review: The Room - A Touchscreen Classic That Feels a Little Sparse On A Home Console
I played this and its sequel but not the other two. Great games, very moody. I just may continue the series if they release 3 and Old Sins for the Switch.
