Re: Demand For The Switch And Ring Fit Adventure In Japan Is Absolutely Crazy Right Now

Iacobus

@JudgeMethos None of those videos are as interactive as Ring Fit Adventure. Yes, people could get a plain Pilates ring and follow along but you wouldn't get the satisfaction of your own progress in the game.

Also, the game gets results, and those that are into fitness don't have many options due to gyms being closed. I personally am watching muscle definition form and I lost 5 lbs. since using RFA (picked it up at the end of October). I love it and I hope that if Nintendo makes a successor to the Switch that it's backward-compatible or have a sequel.

Re: Recovering Your Animal Crossing: New Horizons Save Data From Nintendo Is A One-Time-Only Deal

Iacobus

Everyone can act like Nintendo is pulling these moves out of their posteriors just to troll them. The fact of the matter is that they have a good reason for doing all this: Anytime you have a game like this that allows interaction and trading, you're bound to have trouble concerning duped items and real-world money being exchanged. Some of the items in this game can take years to get. (e.g., The Zodiac set from New Leaf will take a full 12 years to obtain. If you're still playing that game without cheating, that means you're only a little over halfway in collecting the set in 2020. The game was released in 2013 (in North America).)

See what the problem is now?

So here we are, with Nintendo locking the island down like it's Alcatraz to help prevent such measures.

Re: Mario Memories: Playing Super Mario Bros. 3 In The Garden

Iacobus

@BulkSlash I was about to mention this myself. I was 19 years old when Super Mario Bros. 3 was released. (Now 49.) Firmly Gen-X here. Loved playing it (and beating it) back in the day.

I loved playing through this again on Nintendo Switch Online with the NES controllers.

Re: UK Charts: Ring Fit Adventure Leaps Into Top Five, Outselling Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Iacobus

@lemonjellydude If you do, make sure to get a good yoga or exercise mat if you don't already have one; exercises like planks and boat poses would be murder on a hard floor.

@gcunit Here in the States, we have a cancerous "fitness" franchise called Planet Fitness. There's been more than one story of people being chastised for being too fit. I seem to recall one woman who was told to cover up because, in their words, she was too athletic and may intimidate other customers. (She told to them to shove it and promptly canceled her membership.) On top of this, they have what's called a "lunk alarm", so if you even so much as grunt during an exercise, they'll set it off. Because reasons. Wouldn't want to scare people. lol

The Ring-Con is way more manageable in terms of its storage vs. the heavy Wii Balance Board. It's just a Pilates ring with electronics, after all, so it's definitely not gimmicky and a genuine way to exercise. As far as I'm concerned, it was well worth the investment for what I got out of it so far.

Re: Japanese Charts: Ring Fit Adventure Returns To Number One In Another Solid Week For Switch

Iacobus

@Ooccoo_Jr I enjoy it very much as a game as there's plenty to do as far as exercises that are masked as games are concerned. On top of that, you can create your own routines (up to 3 sets of up to 8 (I think it's 8) exercises each), all customizable. e.g., Do 20 front presses followed by 8 squats, followed by 20 planks. You can even program them to repeat.

Once you go through the Adventure (23 Worlds, iirc), you can start over with a harder difficulty. I believe you can do this twice.

The only caveat I have with this game is you get out of it what you put into it, as with any regimen. About 10 minutes of total exercise per day is all that's needed. Sadly, a lot of people in my friends list have dropped out of Ring Fit. Your motivation will be key. You'll want to set goals to attain to help with this.

Me? At 49 years, I have to say I haven't looked this good since I was in my 20's---maybe even better now that I think about it. I can't get rid of the grays coming in but the march of time stops for no one.

Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Switch Has Hugely Successful Week As Stock Shortages End

Iacobus

@ShaiHulud You'll get over it quickly, promise. Just remember to take it easy at first. Take a day or two to heal sore muscles before continuing.

When I first started Ring Fit, I had to set it at around difficulty 12. It's now almost 80 days later and I'm at 30. (I still hate squats with a burning passion but I'm finally getting used to them. If it's one thing this game does is exploit your weaknesses. Front or overhead presses? No problem. Squats of any kind? Kill me.) lol

Re: Talking Point: Switch's Success Vindicates Nintendo's New Hardware Approach, But Does It Have Legs?

Iacobus

Part of the appeal of the Switch was its hybrid, take-it-anywhere paradigm in the first place. It's basically the first of its kind. It can be a "console" hooked up to your TV/monitor or a handheld on-the-go.

And I absolutely love it. More of this in the future, please. I love being able to play Frogger or Pac-Man while waiting for my haircut while I'm out and moving from my kitchen to my living room to play Ring Fit Adventure at home.

Re: Feature: Best Nostalgic Switch Games

Iacobus

@Tandy255 I really would love having the manuals for the NES/SNES apps. Some of the games are a mystery until you start futzing with things. (Thank God for save states and rewind.) xD

Re: Feature: Best Nostalgic Switch Games

Iacobus

This isn't nostalgia, though I appreciate the sentiment.

When I want nostalgia, I'll just fire up Namco Museum or the myriad titles that I have from Arcade Archives (like Time Pilot, Donkey Kong and Frogger). The only thing that's missing at that point is the arcade cabinets and atmosphere of that time.

Re: Nintendo Won't Be Required To Offer eShop Pre-Order Refunds In Norway Or Germany

Iacobus

@Scottwood101 Isn't the sale made complete when purchased? (In other words, the funds are taken out of your account immediately.)

This is a case where the law was in Nintendo's favor because of the wording. Do I like it? Not really but the law's the law, no matter the circumstance.

Do we even know if Nintendo plans on enforcing this? Any real-world examples? From what I've read, this has all been theoretical thus far.

By the way, why are governments like Germany's suddenly the good guy here? Weren't they banning games left and right based upon whatever was their fancy?

Re: Nintendo Won't Be Required To Offer eShop Pre-Order Refunds In Norway Or Germany

Iacobus

I forgot to ask: The law mentions that Nintendo doesn't have to provide a refund (because of said law).

But that doesn't mean Nintendo will actually do that? They can provide a refund if they so choose (if people contact support and ask)? Has anyone even tried this before all this hullabaloo and suddenly started calling Nintendo a form of Satan, Prince of Darkness?

Re: Nintendo Won't Be Required To Offer eShop Pre-Order Refunds In Norway Or Germany

Iacobus

There's a couple things to point out here:

Nintendo, according to the laws on the books, was completely in the right here. The court saw this and had no choice but to side with Nintendo. Again, this isn't my personal opinion; it's just the way the law is. Want to have it change? Change the law.

Also: Don't do pre-orders if you think you might not like the product. Like, at all. Wait. Game's not gonna go anywhere. It's digital. It's not going to sell out, because digital.

Re: Remember That Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Clone That Killed A PS4? It's Coming To Switch

Iacobus

Meh.

Let's get one thing clear: It's not Breath of Wild and will never be Breath of the Wild. To think otherwise is...laughable.

Certainly looks ambitious. But not Breath of the Wild. One is fooling oneself otherwise to think that this "clone" could equal Nintendo's sublime masterpiece. Like, ever. lol

That doesn't make me a Nintendo fanboy. I'm just stating something that's somewhat obvious.

Re: Believe It Or Not, People Are Speed-Running Ring Fit Adventure

Iacobus

@ralphdibny My guess is that they skipped a lot of fights, though I haven't watched any of these. There are drinks to eliminate monsters while running in a course and you can double-jump over them if you know when and where to expect them. That eliminates a lot of time as you can run right through a course in no time otherwise.

Re: Pokémon Sword And Shield Is Getting An Expansion Pass, And It Looks Mighty

Iacobus

As a casual fan of the Pokemon franchise on the outside looking in, you sure are a fickle lot. lol

@WreckitRyan Say you have only Pokemon Sword, you only need to buy the Expansion Pass for Pokemon Sword and get Parts 1 and 2 for $30.

I'm not sure where the controversy is here; I always thought that the Pokemon series was about community and collecting and ESPECIALLY trading. Doesn't this paradigm encourage that? Wouldn't you encourage friends to buy the opposite Pass (or just go online in the communities)? What am I missing here?

Re: Ring Fit Adventure Player Shows Off His Healthy Transformation After One Month

Iacobus

I've been using/playing Ring Fit Adventure for about 45 days now. Lost 4 lbs. (Currently 161 lbs., 49 years old, male.) I'm definitely seeing muscle definition that wasn't there before.

Note that I use it for about 1/2 an hour of total exercise time 6 days a week. I started out at around 11 difficulty and gradually increased that to maximum (30) as I got used to it.

Metabolisms are different; for some it's easy; others more difficult. You can "get there" by being sensible about diet and exercise. You don't need to punish yourself by eating rabbit food all the time but don't eat junk food all the time either. Just take it slow and work at it. It's as much a motivational game as it is physical.

Re: Hideki Kamiya Says Bayonetta 3 Development Is "Going Really Well"

Iacobus

They can take their time. I'm still working my way through File 12 of Astral Chain. (If you thought the Bayonetta games were difficult...) At least I got the Lappy costume and the Lazy Cat Cap. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is....well...on the horizon.

As an aside, there's nothing quite like Bayonetta sashaying her way towards enemies she's about to brutalize. lol

Re: Nintendo's Taking Ring Fit Adventure On A Tour Of The US

Iacobus

@StevenG I forgot which course it was (World 10?) but it's the one where you have.to fight the abdominal, arm and leg bosses; right before the fight, you're treated to having to use air blasts on the fans. Repeatedly. That was a workout. I should also mention the difficulty is at 26.

For reference, I have S rank on the advanced crate-crusher minigame as well as the push exercise. Haven't tried the pull yet.

Re: Nintendo's Taking Ring Fit Adventure On A Tour Of The US

Iacobus

Just passing through, confirming once again how great this title is.

To those of you interested in having more games or titles for the Ring-Con, what exactly are you looking for? The resistance on the Ring-Con is pretty...resistive. I couldn't imagine using it for an extended period of time in the that manner.
