I have zero interest in this, but at least there are options for people who don't want the flexibility of the Switch...like a bigger screen size, the ability to dock to TVs...playing with others on the fly.
Now, a Switch "pro" would pique my interest, which would be the natural evolution of the existing hardware.
@BAN You can pinch to zoom in/out if I remember (if you're using touchscreen controls, that is). Press down on either control sticks on the controller as an alternative. (Two-finger press and slide to pan the level.)
Also, for anyone wanting to design their own levels, one big tip: Get some graph paper and sketch out your ideas. This will help when planning out your levels. This is no different from what artists do when they need to sketch out ideas before committing them to whatever media they've chosen whether it be canvas, paper or computer. It really does help.
And noodle around with the Course Maker's interface some before really getting serious as that'll help to know which tools and options are which and where they are.
Wasn't really sure what to think about this game until I tried the demo. It can be a bit slow at first but it's absolutely fun to deck out the mech in weapons you salvaged from the missions. Definitely would like to get this one.
And, please, for the love of all that's holy, bring back that kickass track that plays in the last mission in the demo (also played in the announcement trailer).
@PikaPhantom The only thing that disappoints me is that I'll have to wait to play it with my Mom, who is ailing from several health issues. (She loves the series; I introduced it to her a few years back with New Leaf. She actually has triple the play time than me.)
I just hope she lives to see it. I worry a lot sometimes.
Just want to warn people who've never played The Witcher 3, without spoilers: This game can be dark...and by dark, not "lack of ambient light" dark, dark as in, "watching innocent people being burned at the stake alive while they scream horribly" dark. It fully earned its M-rating. It's definitely not for kids.
It's weird that after not playing BotW for awhile, I decide to come back and try a round in Master Mode for some weeks now. I wasn't disappointed. I'm now on my way to get the Master Cycle. (I'm still on the fence about attempting Trial of the Sword. Not sure if I'm ready for that level of masochism in Master Mode. It was bad enough in Normal Mode.)
Then they announce a sequel.
My only gripes about the game: Sometimes, looking around is not as fluent as it could be, especially when fighting one of the blight bosses. Oh, and were you about to climb that steep cliff? No can do, bruh, it's raining! /curses at the game (To be fair, a way around this is to find some shelter for a campfire and pass some time.)
@NintendoFan4Lyf I know that when I played it on my PC, I turned off a lot of effects (like the hair) and that damned "witch sense" effect; it actually gave me motion sickness after awhile.
I admit I was disappointed when I found out the release date, but then I thought of the people behind it. They can take as long as they want. They actually sound like they really want to get more into it. They just need time.
(And isn't most of the team working on it the ones that also worked on Splatoon 2? Now that that's over, they can finally go full bore on AC:NH's development.)
The only thing I worry about is my ailing Mom. She loves the series and wants to really play it (and play the game with me like we did with New Leaf). It broke my heart to tell her it was delayed until March.
To anyone who has the DLC for BotW: Get Majora's Mask ASAP; you won't have to fight practically any lower-level mob---even the Lynels won't fight you on sight at first with it on.
It practically makes even Master Mode a cakewalk. You can even paraglide onto the floating platforms that contain treasure chests (in Master Mode) and open the suckers with a bokoblin just standing there looking at you. xD
The only downside? Majora's Mask has no armor and can't be upgraded, so if you do attack, be sure to be ready to switch.
@MeloMan The arcade version of City Connection is superior to the NES version visual-wise (as expected). I can't speak of gameplay for the NES version but the arcade version is pretty fun. I honestly don't get the hate; like all arcade games, it's meant to be a quarter-muncher and requires some skill to progress.
@Anti-Matter I would love if they finally broke out of the "rolling log" effect we've had since Wild World and could see the entire town a la Breath of the Wild. (Not that big, of course, but something like it.) The hardware can definitely handle it as the track from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can attest. (Admit it. You all stopped racing so you could try and check out Nook's or the museum. Don't deny it.)
You kids and your "QTE" fetish. Dragon's Lair (and its cousin games like Space Ace) were no different than, say, Pac-Man: Memorize the patterns and you win. It's just a fancier way of packaging it.
It's a pretty good deal if you plan on getting titles later on like Animal Crossing and Luigi's Mansion 3. The fact that the deal ends in July is just a way to gin up sales of the vouchers.
And I never licked a game card. Speaking as a germaphobic neatnik, I just find that disgusting to begin with, never mind the bitterant applied to it.
I wonder what's up with stock in the UK (and maybe Europe)? I can buy one nearly everywhere here in the United States.
I have a second (official) one as I play in different spots sometimes. Also, people have their entertainment setups...well, set up differently. It's not so easy to move a dock around when you have the cables neatly routed. Not gonna set there and rip cables out just to play it on another TV. lol
My brother, my friend and I played the very first one on the GameCube to death. Loved Monkey Target!
We played the sequel too but something felt lost in translation with that one. I played the paid mobile version some years ago and that was pretty good too.
Would love a Switch version that matched the experience of the first one.
@ThanosReXXX There's unintentional ASMR (like Bob Ross' The Joy of Painting). It's not all intentionally done.
Mine was always triggered by watching people create art (hearing the pencil, pen, brush etc. while watching someone draw, paint, etc.). Of course, it didn't hurt that Bob Ross' calm, reassuring voice was as smooth as butter. He is the king for a reason.
From what I understand, one of the reasons why Nintendo used that "rolling log effect" in later versions of Animal Crossing was because of memory limitations. (Not sure that excuses the Wii version, "City Folk," but that's neither here nor there.)
So, with that in mind, I really, really want to see Animal Crossing break out in all its glory: Make it a town you can actually see all of from, say, a cliffside. You don't have to make it Breath of the Wild big; enough so it actually feels like your part of this world rather than feeling like you're in a boxed-off part of a world.
Admit it: You all stopped your racing in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe so you could take in the sights in sounds of the Animal Crossing track. You actually tried to go off the track to try to get to Nook's. Don't deny it. I won't.
You peeps need hearing tests. It sounds like, "King Bowser," and it's quite possible that due to the audio's low sample rate the "ahh" in "Kinga" wasn't captured properly.
This simply sounds (no pun intended) like what a person thinks he hears while listening to a song without its official lyrics. (Steve Miller Band, anyone?) lol
Breath of the Wild was my Day 1 purchase, but that's mainly because it was near the Switch's launch. Still, it'd still be my Day 1; such a sublime game to play.
I really like Smash Ultimate but that's one of those games where you "get it" or you don't. It just isn't as much my bag as ANIMAL CROSSING FOR SWITCH NINTENDO!!!! NEED MOAR INFO AND GAMEPLAY VIDEOS!!! would be.
Part of the Yoshi series was not just "beating the game" but also 100% it. (All red coins, smiley flowers, flip side Poochys, etc.)
Playing in co-op is a treat to 100% as you don't have to manage eggs.
Sure, to go straight to the end is easy, but be real, people. You're talking about a game that's aimed squarely at kids and families. Were you honestly expecting Dark Souls-level difficulty? lol
@Kadmario Such an adorable game, too! Poochy and the pups are too cute!
I realized how much some of the stages are perfectly suited for co-op, like the one where you have to knock out the gophers. Having infinite eggs (via co-op) makes that level much easier to 100%.
My Mom had a real scare these past couple of weeks, in-between coming down with a new strain of pneumonia (which the CDC actually came and took samples from her) and heart failure (from the pneumonia).
She loves Animal Crossing. I desperately want to play the new Animal Crossing with her as I played with her all the time in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Such great memories!
Maybe people get tired from the same old M-rating content and just want to unwind with something cute and fun? Doesn't hurt it has 2-player co-op either, something perfect for playing with your kids.
Definitely picking this up (here in the USA). I was absolutely enthralled with the demo.
The latest update to Minecraft has pretty much hosed performance on the Switch. There's a big thread over at Mojang's support forum about it.
Maybe if they concentrated on that rather than worrying about being associated with a so-called controversial figure (if that indeed be the case; I don't believe anything the media says nowadays, including you guys, sorry)...it ain't gonna change the fact that he created it in the first place. Deal.
I can only see improved hardware refreshes (better battery life; improved Joy-Con and Pro Controller designs---looking at you, Pro Controller D-pad!) and nothing more; anything else and you risk fragmenting the market like @thesilverbrick mentioned, especially for a hybrid console that's relatively expensive.
They could certainly sell the console without the dock if they want to make it a little more inexpensive. (They do that already in Japan, so...)
Personally, I think Nintendo nailed it this time around with the combination of portability and quality of the system's capabilities (minus the design quirks but that's what hardware research and development is for). Refinements are certainly welcome as they were when they redesigned the DS and 3DS a few times.
@Lionyone Though this game might not be everyone's cup of tea, you'd be hard-pressed to find anything as beautifully well-done. Sublime would be an adjective I'd use.
I recently fired it back up after not playing it for awhile and tried Master Mode. Since I also have the DLC pass, Majora's Mask makes some monster encounters both hilarious and fun. I really have no interest in this glitch, though.
Oh, goody, more people who won't know what a Splat Zone is or what to do with the Super Clam.
/kidding
On a more serious note, I wish that Nintendo would explain the game's mechanics more to new players. A lot of people don't know, for example, that in Salmon Run, the Explosher can take out a Flyfish's launchers when they're open; no need to use a splat bomb.
Even better? If a Dynamo Roller is in the weapon rotation in Salmon Run, there's two awesome uses for it: 1) Plop that sucker down, keep it down and don't move during the Rush (the event where glowflies make you a singular target of their ravenous wrath). Any salmonid that touches it will instantly go kablooey.
and
2) During the Goldie Seeking event (the event where you have to find the Goldie amongst the gushers), plop the Dynamo's roller down in front of where the Goldie is walking. The eggs will literally flow out as it hits him (and will likely kill him if you do it right).
Wow, the battle percentages were close. I only played Pro; 22 wins, 20 losses for Team Knight. Won a 10x match too.
You guys on Team Wizard shouldn't boast; the fact that you were overwhelmingly the popular choice yet had to squeak by to victory is a big tell. And, really? Wizards? At least knights were real. Go cosplay somewhere else, kiddos.
/gauntlet
On a more serious note, I wish we could use Ninja Squid during these. I love using the Aerospray with it and sneaking behind enemy lines.
@Yorumi Years ago, I once got $900 for a copy of Dynastic Hero (for the TurboDuo/TurboGrafx-16 CD). It was opened and had its UPC code cut out (for a rebate). Someone in Spain bought it.
@ALinkttPresent I know you can rearrange them all at the bottom if you'd like (but there's a limit for how many in a row, of course; think it's like 8 or something).
Not impressed. There's a reason why the original game looks the way it does.
Never understood this need to take someone else's art and try to make it "better." It's kind of insulting, actually. It's the equivalent of taking a Raphael and adding crayon to it.
This seems like a nothingburger to me. All it is is cosmetic. I could understand if it gave players a leg up but it doesn't.
Seriously, the only get ups I can remember are that cyborg one and that mascot one, and even then, I don't care. The more important thing to me is, Can you play well? (Especially if you're on my team. Stop fragging and ink the zone.) lol
Oh, one more tip: If you're going for "pure" gear (where the gear's main ability matches the 3 sub abilities), try to attempt to have the first 2 sub abilities match and if you have enough chunks, install the 3rd by talking to Much. You need 30 chunks for the last slot.
(To install the same ability on a piece of gear costs more each time: 10 chunks > 20 chunks > 30 chunks. You'd save 30 chunks if you're willing to take chances and grind out the first two slots.)
@CairiB Drink tickets give you the chance to farm ability chunks for your gear. They also let you "level up" the gear faster for faster chunk farming.
They can be obtained via the single-player modes or Salmon Run mode (my favorite!).
Also, each piece of gear can have 1 to 3 slots. You can use Super Snails (earned from Splatfests or just leveling up) to expand the slots on gear that doesn't have 3 slots already.
Note that brand of gear denotes the chance for that particular ability more than any other ability. (e.g., The Annaki brand has a better chance of netting you a Main Power Up ability on its own. The Main Power Up drink enhances this even more.) Do a web search for "splatoon 2 brands" if you want to min/max and plan ahead.
@Steel76 I still remember bringing home my copy of the game from Caldor. I wasn't even sure what to expect. (Remember that odd commercial they had for the game? The one with the guy running around all crazy with the voices naming the enemies? That was the only thing I had to go on.) xD
You Negative Nancys, never givin' anything a chance. lol
The game requires patience; it's not a game that you can just pick up and play. You can go back and do past missions you've completed to trick out your arsenal, which makes that last mission a breeze.
There are some things that are a bit confusing at first but sitting down and figuring it out isn't that hard.
I love that main theme music (the same music they used for the announcement trailer), it's so...metal.
@Captain_Toad T-spins are when you take a T tetrimino (piece) and "spin" (rotate) it into a place it normally wouldn't go into. Do a web search as it's one of the more long-running advanced moves players use. Usually requires a setup.
You must have done it a few times without realizing it.
Though I was disappointed no mention of Animal Crossing was made, it's understandable; this was Fire Emblem's (and a few others, like Super Mario Maker 2) time to shine. Now that I think about it, it might have been too much overload. My guess is we'll get details and gameplay by the time E3 rolls around.
I've tried the demos of both Yoshi's Crafted Word and Daemon X Machina. The former is utterly adorable and the latter is an extremely interesting game I thought I might not have any interest in.
Oh, and don't play Tetris 99 with the Pro Controller since it's a reminder how terrible the D-pad is on it. I kept accidentally hard dropping like the dickens because of it so I switched to the Joy-Cons.

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September
@Krazzar I fully intend on buying a second Switch for my Mom so that we can play Animal Crossing: New Horizons together.
It isn't going to be a Lite, though, it'll be the full-on experience; she'll be playing it on her TV and wherever else she wants to play it.
Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September
I have zero interest in this, but at least there are options for people who don't want the flexibility of the Switch...like a bigger screen size, the ability to dock to TVs...playing with others on the fly.
Now, a Switch "pro" would pique my interest, which would be the natural evolution of the existing hardware.

@Realnoize I, too, would love such treatment of these games. I never hesitate to mention it when doing surveys they send.
I despise futzing around in games and would love manuals too.
Re: Team Wizard Wins The Latest Splatoon 2 Splatfest
Wow, the battle percentages were close. I only played Pro; 22 wins, 20 losses for Team Knight. Won a 10x match too.
You guys on Team Wizard shouldn't boast; the fact that you were overwhelmingly the popular choice yet had to squeak by to victory is a big tell. And, really? Wizards? At least knights were real. Go cosplay somewhere else, kiddos.

On a more serious note, I wish we could use Ninja Squid during these. I love using the Aerospray with it and sneaking behind enemy lines.
Re: Random: Extremely Rare Nintendo World Championships Cartridge Found In An Attic
@Yorumi Years ago, I once got $900 for a copy of Dynastic Hero (for the TurboDuo/TurboGrafx-16 CD). It was opened and had its UPC code cut out (for a rebate). Someone in Spain bought it.
Re: Nintendo Adds New NES Games And SP Versions To Switch Online Earlier Than Planned
@ALinkttPresent I know you can rearrange them all at the bottom if you'd like (but there's a limit for how many in a row, of course; think it's like 8 or something).
Re: Nintendo Adds New NES Games And SP Versions To Switch Online Earlier Than Planned
Isn't it weird that StarTropics was released only in the West? (Great game, BTW.)
I beat Kirby's Adventure before the SP edition came out but I don't have the "Extra Game". Do I have to 100% it? (It's at about 75%.)
ON EDIT: I do wish manuals were included somehow. I hate futzing my way through games.
Re: Video: Check Out Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Running At 60fps And Without Cel Shading
Not impressed. There's a reason why the original game looks the way it does.
Never understood this need to take someone else's art and try to make it "better." It's kind of insulting, actually. It's the equivalent of taking a Raphael and adding crayon to it.
Re: Random: Nintendo Jumps On The ASMR Bandwagon With The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
I never thought this was straight-up ASMR. A binaural experience, yes, but nothing on the level of Bob Ross or Gentle Whispering on YouTube.
For me, the triggers are things such as watching people draw or paint. Bob Ross was the ASMR king before ASMR was even a thing.
There's something about watching art being created and hearing it that does it for me.
Re: Splatoon 2's #GearForAll Social Media Movement Fights Exclusive Japanese Content
Re: Splatoon 2 News Channel Giving Out Free Drink Tickets Next Week
@DanteSolablood You're welcome!
Re: Splatoon 2 News Channel Giving Out Free Drink Tickets Next Week
Re: The Legend Of Zelda And The Famicom Disk System Are 33 Years Old Today
@Steel76 I still remember bringing home my copy of the game from Caldor. I wasn't even sure what to expect. (Remember that odd commercial they had for the game? The one with the guy running around all crazy with the voices naming the enemies? That was the only thing I had to go on.) xD
Re: Reminder: Nintendo Sending Out Survey About Daemon X Machina Demo
You Negative Nancys, never givin' anything a chance. lol
The game requires patience; it's not a game that you can just pick up and play. You can go back and do past missions you've completed to trick out your arsenal, which makes that last mission a breeze.
There are some things that are a bit confusing at first but sitting down and figuring it out isn't that hard.
I love that main theme music (the same music they used for the announcement trailer), it's so...metal.
Re: Guide: How To Claim Battle Royale Victory In Tetris 99
@Captain_Toad T-spins are when you take a T tetrimino (piece) and "spin" (rotate) it into a place it normally wouldn't go into. Do a web search as it's one of the more long-running advanced moves players use. Usually requires a setup.
You must have done it a few times without realizing it.
Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February
