Re: Rumour: The Latest Switch Firmware Update Has Apparently Added Bluetooth Audio Support

HolyGeez03

@Arehexes You are correct... but if the Switch were to support Low Latency (LL) codec and people could more readily buy earbuds that properly support LL, the problem would be solved.

Nintendo is probably waiting to see if wireless earbuds go this route. Right now, most LL bluetooth headphones are over-the-ear and designed for movie watching. Most earbuds only seem concerned to support the most recent HD audio codecs, which is great for music listening, but not for TV/movies/games.

@Jimmy_G_Buckets They probably (almost definitely) also have way more audio lag/latency.

The problem with wireless earbuds is that very few support Low Latency codec, which is essential for gaming. I'd bet that's why Nintendo doesn't allow you to simply connect earbuds via bluetooth.

Most gaming headsets have their own USB dongle and use a low latency connection... the receivers/headphones designed for movie watching do the same.

Connect Bluetooth earbuds to your phone and watch someone play a video game on Twitch to see what it's like.

Re: NES DuckTales Originally Had An Option For Scrooge To Give Up His Fortune

HolyGeez03

I loved Ducktales NES and still own the cartridge... haven't hooked up my NES in a while though.

The DuckTales remake was a lot like the original, except way slower and more boring in my opinion. The cutscenes were poorly paced and I didn't love the art-style overall.

All I want is for the Disney Afternoon Collection to come to Switch... this seems like a no-brainer, but licensing issues are likely to blame.

Re: Feature: Best Feel-Good Nintendo Switch Games

HolyGeez03

Glad it wasn't just me... I found DK Tropical Freeze to be extremely frustrating... poor controls, inconsistent jumps, confusing attacks... I have beat just about every Mario game (and Celeste for that matter) and I gave up quickly on DK.

The list is pretty silly... but 3D World and Yoshi should be on it.

Re: Rumour: Datamine Apparently Reveals All About The New Nintendo Switch Revision

HolyGeez03

I'd be happy with a bigger, 1080p screen on the handheld... and hardware that can run games like BOTW at 1080/30 without any drops... and Mario games at 1080/60. The new hardware will also allow the Switch to keep getting ports of third party games like DOOM, albeit very "watered down".

I'd bet the Pro dock will upscale to 4K for output to TV... as long as it does a better job at the upscale than most TVs, it will be worth it.

Re: Random: Mario Maker Player Still Trying To Complete Course After 3,353 Hours

HolyGeez03

I have watched him try to complete this level a little bit here and there since about the 1,500 hour mark. It's oddly compelling.

And there is nothing wrong with attempting this... it's no different than someone who dedicates hundreds/thousands of hours to learning a musical instrument, learning to quickly solve a rubik's cube, whatever... It's just less understood.

He has stated numerous times that he is doing this because he wants to and enjoys it, not out of some dangerous compulsion. We have no reason not to believe him.

Re: The Wii U First Launched Eight Years Ago Today

I loved the WiiU... I still feel that it would have been more successful if Nintendo had just pushed it as an HD Wii with Off-TV play on the Gamepad.

Every one that I showed the Off-TV capability to loved it and bought a WiiU so that they could game while their kids or spouse watched TV. It was also quite popular among my friends as a way to let their kids watch Netflix shows while the adults watched shows on the TV.

So much potential and tons of great games... but no one really knew what it was or cared about "Asymmetrical Gameplay" other than Nintendo Land. Just using the Gamepad for a map or inventory management was fantastic... worked great for Shovel Knight, Steamworld, Pikmin, etc.

Being able to play Mario Kart 8 and Zen Pinball on the Gamepad alone made it a worthwhile device.

I really hope the Switch 2 includes a "Dock" with some console capabilities inside... allowing, for example, Player 1 to use the whole TV and Player 2 to use the Switch TV. When actually docked, this would allow for a much more powerful traditional home console.
