Update (Wed 9th Jun, 2021 00:45 BST): The moment Minecraft fans have been waiting for has arrived - the Caves & Cliffs Part One update is now available. It adds new blocks and mobs:
Get to know the axolotl, but don’t let the adorableness of this bucket-happy mob fool you. It is very much a predator. The goats are also incredibly cute, but also incredibly fond of ramming, so keep your distance or prepare yourself for a journey through the air. If you happen to be standing near a body of water when the goat’s head connects with your blocky body, you might be bumped into the glow squid. Be sure to grab some glow ink while you’re swimming with these luminous lovelies!

You can now find blocks such as small and big dripleaf, pointed dripstone, caves vines and glow berries, azalea and azalea leaves, flowering azalea and flowering azalea leaves, hanging roots, rooted dirt, moss carpet, and moss block.
You’ll also get to play with glow lichen, powder snow, and deepslate blocks, as well as the new amethyst geodes! That means you can craft the new spyglass and tinted glass! Hmmm. I feel like I’m forgetting something. Hahaha! I jest. I would never forget to mention that Part I brings COPPER! You can now craft lightning rods, which is almost as metal as the entire Nether Update.

Original article (Tue 1st Jun, 2021 06:05 BST): At Minecraft Live last year, Mojang announced the Caves & Cliffs update. In April of this year, it made the tough decision to turn it into two separate parts.
The developer has now locked in a release date, announcing part one is coming to the Nintendo Switch and multiple other platforms next week on 8th June. This update will include new creatures such as the axolotls, goats and glow squid as well as new blocks like amethyst, dripleaves and copper. There's the spyglass, too.
In somewhat related news, Sega recently revealed a Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration with Minecraft. Read more about it in our previous post. Are you excited about the Caves & Cliffs part one update? Tell us down below.

Very exciting! I think builds using copper will be interesting to see, as it gradually oxidises over time.
@Kaiffe123 Will copper oxydation really be implemented in the update ?
@gurtifus According to the Minecraft Wiki, yes, oxidation is coming in part 1.
Sounds cool, more stuff for one of my favorite game.
I’m beyond amped that the update is coming next week.
Now if only we could get the bugs ironed out that still plague the Switch version.
The mine craft content page is incredible
I'm more excited for this update than I was for the Nether update. I'm glad that this update is focused on the Overworld, and I'm really looking forward to Part 2 to see the whole update come together.
Can they just fix the switch version? Still runs awfully
I can't wait for caves and cliffs without the caves and cliffs! I mean, come on, they have more than enough money to higher more people in order to reach their deadline. I bet they could even do an update a month if they wanted to!
@Low_ink
It seems you don’t have any idea just what goes into developing games.
@EliteXeos I understand everything takes time. I'm also not a game developer. But the rate at which they develop and add updates is honestly laughable. Minecraft is the best selling videogame of all time, and is also owned by Microsoft. Mods add content faster than the devs. So do other games.
Minecraft's updates hardly include any content, with (what I believe to be) the game's largest update ever including only 3 new biomes. 3!
The worldgen is so bad that there's countless mods and plugins to fix it. The only reason people voted for mountains was because they suck! And the update that will fix at least a little bit of worldgen gets split into two parts?
And if we look back at the nether update, I could see that much content easily getting added in a month or two. Of course they would need a large team, but this is the best selling videogame of all time! They could easily higher a big enough team for that.
But Minecraft will never be like that. It will continue to slowly move through updates forever. At this point it isn't even fun for me. So I look to something else. Something with an adequate amount of content on release day. Something built with adventure in mind. Something exciting.
Hytale. A game inspired by Minecraft, but better in every way. It can't be complacent. If it is, well, it'll die soon after release. The graphics are modern. It is built on the grounds of custom content. It looks to be huge in comparison to Minecraft.
If a team originally made for developing a Minecraft server can make a game better than Minecraft, well I don't see why Microsoft can't make their game a whole lot better.
Also careful about replying to me, it may just end up in 16 paragraphs.
@Low_ink Yes, I think that's the unanimous message that gamers are trying to send right now: more dev crunch, please!
@Chlocean Did you even read my long message? I don't want crunch, I'm jus disappointed that Minecraft cannot seem to get any substantial updates. Other games get them all the time. I personally believe that Minecraft is let down by it's developers. I didn't get mad when they delayed the update due to team health, just disappointed. Why couldn't they higher more people? We get hardly any updates as is. I know what I want, but it appears I'm bad at conveying it! (Although its not like I even play Minecraft anymore, so I really shouldn't be concerned about it.)
As the updates are free and still with a lot of content I imho am still satisfied. As the updates are also inserted to keep the gamebalance right it makes sense to not overfill it with to many things and to frequent updates.
All these updates makes me want to get back into the game but I only ever really enjoy it when I play with my brother, for some reason I always lose interest in the single player aspect of it.
I will say nothing more and nothing less, I'm uninterested.
Ill wait until the second part to experience it
Minecraft is such a great game. It makes me glad that a game about building and exploring met with so much success.
Caves have been 99% the same since I first started playing over 10 years ago, I'm so ready for them to change. A shame the update got split, but this year has messed up everything
@Low_ink I rather have slow and refined updates than some rushed mess. You sound very ungratefull, not to mention all the updates are free.
I'm more excited about part 2.
I'll probably wait until December before I play Minecraft again
@Arkay I know, I know. I just find stuff like this frustrating when so many games add content so much faster! Yes the updates are free, but it doesn't mean Minecraft isn't constantly selling thousands of copies each day. Ah, but I feel like I still sound ungrateful, huh. I guess I've reached the limit of just text then. I assure you that in person I'm not this ungrateful about it lol.
@Low_ink it's fine, dude. Just take it easy and appreciate that we even have this wonderful game.👌🏾
@Arkay Yeah, thanks. I have many thoughts, but it isn't always the easiest to share them online.
@Low_ink I understand, I find it best to think of what points I want to make and then further refine how I'd say it. That way it sounds calm and collected instead of the frantic writings of a madman.
@Arkay Yeah, I do too, usually. But when regarding this and Pokemon I can never seem to make a good case. Thanks for understanding!
I liked this game when it had less complicated stuff around 2012. Still like it but I feel like the game was perfect and the copper stuff could be left for mods like Tekkit.
