The Nintendo Switch version of the insanely popular farming and social sim Stardew Valley has received a new patch. It bumps the game up to Version 1.5.4.2
As noted by the creator, ConcernedApe, it resolves some bugs and crashes, and that "notorious mummified bat" issue...
This latest update follows on the release of Version 1.5.4.1 at the beginning of March - which fixed the following issues:
- Fixed issue where the ground or flooring in some areas would appear solid blue.
- Fixed issue where UI would appear offset on zoom settings other than 100%.
The last big update for the game was 1.5 - adding a new farm, split-screen and more (it rolled out in February of this year). While it seems minor updates will be continuing, right now there doesn't appear to be anything else major planned.
Are you still enjoying Stardew Valley on a regular basis? Have you tried out the latest version? Tell us down below.

I still play this from time to time, such a fun game.
Oh look.
An update.
Time to whip out the old Error code 2123-1502.
@IronMan30 I've done two farms with friends since the co-op update and it's been a blast, even the early game. I've been pleasantly surprised.
Can Nintendo first fix the Error code instead of this at the moment?
I've been playing this daily lately actually. Just recently realized how fun the multiplayer is.
@anoyonmus i was going to say the same thing but i had to think for a moment.
It isn't actually Nintendo who updated this game, it was the developers responsible for making it in the first place.
They obviously implemented the update and rolled it out on all platforms.
But the error code is for Nintendo to fix.
Edit: which is why i just pointed out the error code is still there, didn't mention anything about them fixing it, as it isn't their issue to fix.
Shame I (and so many others) can’t download any updates or software because of Nintendo’s corrupt firmware update. Annoying isn’t the word.
@anoyonmus You do know this isn't a Nintendo game, right?
I like this more than animal crossing although I love both appreciate the support for the switch version
Love this game. I hope the dev's future projects are appreciated as much as this one.
Nice to see that ConcernedApe knows how to do an update properly. Let's think, who could learn from this example....
@Liam_Doolan Uh...dude Concerned Ape said he doesn't think it's the end of the content updates for the game, but your article makes it sound like there will be no more content updates...
I quit my 1.5 playthrough because the game would randomly crash when going to sleep, erasing the whole day. Hope this fixes it.
Hmm haven’t played since the SoS games hit the system but I may wander back in. Glad you don’t get overgrowth from not playing.
I don't remember seeing any of those issues but I guess it's great they fixed them.
Can't wait for mobile to get the 1.5 update too.
@Ghostchip,
I get you like the game, not so sure it should matter that you enjoy it more than Animal crossing, but keep on having fun with it.
@RoguePirate
Soooooo close. Missed it by THIS much.
It's up to HAL Laboratory to fix the error code, as they are the ones that made and are continuing support of OS "Horizon", which is used by the Switch. While HAL has worked closely with Nintendo for 30 years, they are independent.
Nintendo can pressure them, and I'm sure they are, but they are not going to have the experts and resources needed to fix it themselves.
@HeadPirate really huh... the more ya know...
Thanks for the heads up 😁.
I played the absolute crap out of this game. Hundreds and hundreds of hours. It's one of my most played titles on Switch. I adore it! In a lot of ways, it makes it hard to look at any other farming game, despite the fact that I really want something in the same genre to play.
The thing it, I've already built several farms, married all the folks I like, a couple more than than once, and done very nearly everything there is to do.
I feel like I've pretty much milked it dry. I'm sure I'll play more again at some point. But it'll be a while.
Awesome, I was having huge trouble finding the mummified bat, very glad to hear it is fixed.
Stardew Valley — the most generous game in the history of gaming.
@iuli And here I'd thought that the "Switch Pro" rumour game fit that description. Free-to-play, with an infinite number of moves and skins, and - apparently - no Game Over in sight.
Stardew Valley? Bah. That merely took effort.
@Savino @iuli Free, open source Linux gaming says hello.
ConcernedApe deserves every dollar of the millions he has made from this game. It's essentially a one man operation and it often puts larger development teams to shame.
@iuli "things don’t work too good, ha!, let’s throw another Switch Pro ‘news’, everyone will bite! (We do!)."
Yeah im done with all that, it's been flogged past death at this point.
I gave up believing in a Switch Pro at the beginning of this year, i figured if they were working on it, they'd probably have released it by that point.
I suspect that by September-November 2023 we'll get a new Nintendo console, which is generally in line with their time scale on all their consoles.
Releasing a Switch Pro now wouldn't really make much difference anymore.
But had the pandemic not happened, Nintendo would have been in serious trouble by now.
If not for the Pandemic/scalpers/chip shortages, i genuinely believe that both Sony and Microsoft would have swept Nintendo away during the last holiday season in every territory outside of Japan.
Under those circumstances, Nintendo would have definitely needed a Switch Pro to entice 3rd parties to continue their support.
I fell off Stardew Valley a few months after it came out but the juicy updates are seriously enticing me to redownload it. Thing is, though, I stopped playing because I got bored with the slog of maintaining the farm and scraping together whatever little money I could. Maybe I'll start a new file and say to hell with actually running the farm. Befriend the townspeople and go fishing! Wonder how far that'll get me...
@RoguePirate
Well, even if it were Nintendo, there are different Teams within the Company.
So one can throw out an Update for a Game and the other is still working on the Patch (NOE?).
But yes, i hope they find the Source for that annoying Error and correct it
@TheBigK you could do that with an existing file where you already have money, you know.
Starting a new file and ignoring the farm from the get go would likely just sour the experience further.
Still haven't played it. Actually, the last farming game I played was one of the Harvest Moon games when it was still Story of Seasons.
I'm feeling like playing one of these again. Should I buy Stardew Valley or one of the Story of Seasons?
@Azuris well it seems it isn't even Nintendo who are responsible.
Although they seriously need to get on HAL's case about it. If they are responsible for maintaining the Switch OS. They're not doing a great job at all.
@RenanKJ definitely Stardew i think, it seems to be rated very highly. It features quite high on "best games ever made" lists.
@RoguePirate
Lets see how long they'll take.
Sad that we will never get Information about how it came to that Problem.
Love such Backgrounds
@RoguePirate
seriously Right...
Nintendo needs to fix this problem....
I have had errors for failed updates but found that going into the game specific options (+) and updating from there works every time for me.
Playing coop Stardew with my kids. It’s pretty great. The coop mode is a little tough for new players because menus don’t pause time (unless you both are in a menu) so you are almost never safe, but it’s countered by amazing online resources and having a second player to earn money and resources.
I have to sit near my switch while downloading anything. Gets error every 10 mins. Then I have to tap Continue about 5 - 8 times before it resumes again.
@nannybuckles that's pretty cool. I may try to do a co-op farm with my kids.
Maybe I need to get back to this game...but now I got too many same game and Story of Seasons needs revisiting again.
I no longer like my wife, can I have an affair?
I’ve been avoiding playing as I just don’t feel right logging in just to break the bad news to her and the kids.
I've had quite a long break from the Valley but now I'm about 40 hours into a new save. I'm noticing lots of little changes. I love it, it's one of my favourite games ever.
